hortly before our big day, we had the opportunity to meet with Trent. He is so friendly, so cool, easy-going, and energetic - we absolutely loved working with him! When we changed a few of our songs last minute the week of the wedding, he was flexible and made sure of the changes. Trent played the PERFECT music - we asked to start the night with classic weddings, throw in a slow song or two, and then transition to college dance hits (reliving our best lives). We had the BEST time dancing with our friends and family because of Trent. Our college friends got reallllly into the dancing, our fun aunts and uncles were feeling it, and he even got our baby cousins on the dance floor. So, a million thanks to Trent and SBD for helping us have the best day ever! We can’t recommend him and the crew enough!

Furthermore, we worked directly with Max Dodge who was our DJ...and he was awesome! Having gone to other weddings, oftentimes DJs can be tacky, annoying, fake, and too pushy...that's not the case at all with Max who is genuinely kind, was excited for us, and took time to meet with us in-person over a cup of coffee and learn about what our vision was for the day. He's got superb knowledge and taste in good music too! He spends hours before the big day, reading over our playlist and arranging it so everything flows smoothly.
All said and done, we were so happy we picked Sound by Design and specifically Max Dodge to be spinning the tracks on our wedding day!

friendly and fun to have as MCs and DJs from speeches, to announcements, to grand entrances, and just plain dancing! My husband and I had multiple meetings with Sound by Design (per their suggestion) in order to properly pair us with the correct DJ and truly understand our wants and needs out of the night. They got to the venue early and set up all equipment and photo booth materials in a beautiful manner. The dance floor was packed the entire night and our guests are still talking about it. Jack was outstanding. From the first meeting, he absolutely understood. My husband entered in a lot of ideas and suggestions to the Sound By Design portal, and he absolutely ran with it.

The bulb lights we had hanging truly added touch to the venue, decors, and photos. We didn't need to get involved with how they were hung up at all. Sound By Design took care of all of that the night before.
Our DJ, Mateo, was absolutely great to work with. We provided him with inspo playlists so he could get a feel of the vibe/music we wanted throughout the night and he went beyond our expectations. The dance floor was filled the ENTIRE night and many guests/family mentioned how they couldn't get off the dance floor because the music was too good. Mateo also recommended the cold sparks to help get folks excited on the dance floor and we HIGHLY recommend it. It was an absolute HIT. Not exaggerating.
The photo booth was managed extremely well. One of the folks from Sound By Design even came to find me (the bride) to make sure my husband and I got a photo in the booth before the night ended. We never made it there because again...the music was just too good. Sound By Design collected all of the photos and gave us a printed album with notes from our guests and sent us a digital version of all of the photos less than a week after our wedding.

My only caution to future couples is the mandatory 15-20% tip that is written in your contract; we were reminded of this during a planning meeting halfway through our engagement, during which he also mentioned that their prices had doubled since we booked. A mandatory $500ish tip on top of an already-premium price makes a huge difference; in speaking with friends who had already gotten married, a wedding planner friend, and our coordinator, this is not a "normal" ask - with our venue also being part of the same family and the number of offerings they had, it was an efficient choice to go with SBD, but in learning about the mandatory tip, we had to compromise on a few other experiences for our guests (who were the ones we wanted to spend our money on).

design and didn’t shop around because we knew the dance floor being packed and a good MC was worth it to us to pay a little more but know that we were in good hands. My only con is that they put in the contract that 20% gratuity is required. Required gratuities have always rubbed me the wrong way because I think the company should charge a fair price and then the point of gratuity is to pay additional based on the service. Mateo did incredible like I already said so we would’ve given him a large tip but the required gratuity from sound by design does rub me the wrong way which is why I docked the company just a bit.

SBD has you meet with your DJ about a month before your wedding so they get to know what you want. We loved having that time to sit down with Rick to get to know him. He made sure he knew exactly how we wanted our night to go, since he was going to be the emcee of the night. Additionally, he made sure to touch base with everyone who was giving a speech to go over microphone etiquette - which if you have a father like I do who talks way too loud, and way too much, you know how important that is.
