Soup to Soul catered our wedding and I will start off by saying that the food itself was really good and our guests did enjoy it. However, the food was not placed on warmers, there were flies all around it with no protection for the food, and the employees were dressed as if they were working a casual side gig. All of our other vendors for our day were dressed were so nice, very fitting for a wedding besides the employees sent from soup to soul. Also, our food was suppose to be served by the employees to our guests and it wasn’t, our guests had to serve themselves and noted how the employees stood in the corner watching them serve themselves. Also, they ran out of their own plates, even though our guest count was confirmed, and the employees had to get into our cake plates, therefore leaving half of our guests needing 2-3 small plates to carry their food. This caterer isn’t cheap, so the subpar service was really disappointing. It was also disappointing to bring these concerns up to the owner and there were excuses for every issue. Definitely expected better service for the price we paid!
Communication was easy via FB Messenger. We decided on an Italian Pasta Bar for my daughters wedding. The venue was in a rural location outside of Eugene and there was no kitchen available, it was about 90 min away. I expressed my concerns to Allie regarding food quality and quantity do to the distance that they were traveling and that it was buffet style. I was assured that there would be no issues keeping food warm and tasty and the servings would be monitored.
Allie contacted at the exact start time of the wedding ceremony to notify me that due to an ER she was sending an employee to set up the buffet and work the event, they had been enroute some 30 min prior but assured me all food had been prepared by herself. The employee then texted me a few minutes later with her ETA. The employee arrived 30 min or so before dinner was to be served with her husband? and baby. We started dinner slightly late and it was COLD (I was one of the first tables to eat), the roasted vegetables were so hard they rolled off of the tables when you stabbed them, the chicken was dry and the alfredo sauce tasted like lukewarm cream. But at least I got food....the last 3 tables had no pasta or salad dressing. There was chicken, sauce, lettuce and vegetables left, a handful of breadsticks. We had 6 guests no show that we had included in our headcount and my guess approx 30 people that did not have a complete meal. Only one bunsen burner was used to reheat the food which helps to explain the coldness. The girl monitoring the buffet was either on her phone, holding her baby and extremely distressed (regarding the lack of food is my guess). She left as soon as she had everything put out. When I contacted the owner days later regarding our experience, quantity and quality I was essentially told my guests overserved themselves, that she had prepared more than enough and that it was piping hot out of the oven and she had never had issues with anything staying hot prior. Frustrating as I had asked about these exact concerns prior and was assured that there would be no issues.
Maybe a different menu would have been more appropriate given the distance, pasta and salad dressing is cheap (send triple next time!), use 2 burners per tray (or an electric roaster!), learn how to say you're sorry and take some ownership of where you missed the ball. The poor girl that came to the event left before even being tipped and while I feel bad for her as it wasn't her fault, since about 25% of my guests didn't get dinner I guess it worked out financially. I am also glad that someone else had my phone, messaging the mother of the bride at the start of the ceremony was incredibly rude, especially given that she had called her employee in and they had been on the road for 30 min already.
If you aren't local to Soup Meets Soul I would pass on a meal that needs to be served hot.
Not only is the food amazing but the couple behind Soup Meets Soul are truly the nicest people ever! They have been beyond easy to work with and so accommodating! They went all out for our tasting and we are so excited to have them cater our wedding!
I absolutely adore their food. Everything is always so delicious and full of flavor! You will not be disappointed. Highly recommend for any catering event.
Alison and Kevin are some of the best people ever! Not only are they great to work with but their food is exceptional! They are way more than soup! (Even though their lasagna soup is my favorite thing on the menu!) I would 100% recommended them!
