Chefs Lee Gregory of Alewife and Joe Sparatta of Heritage joined forces with local farmer Matt Gottwald to create Southbound in 2014, with the intention of bringing a neighborhood family restaurant to Bon Air. With two of the most highly acclaimed chefs in town running the kitchen, Southbound was destined to be a hit spot for foodie adults and hungry children alike. Throughout the past eight years, Southbound has garnered many accolades and awards from some of the most prestigious people in the food scene.
Chefs Gregory and Sparatta employ the most talented people in town to work at Southbound. In 2022, the kitchen got a boost with the hiring of two co-chefs. First we have Jeff Collins, a master pastry chef with an immaculate sense of flavor and patience only a baker can attain, and Dennis Merritt, an epic food artist whose innate sense of color and proportion make his savory dishes a treat to look at and eat. The menu at Southbound utilizes locally sourced ingredients to create a seasonal, approachable menu which is designed to delight guests of all ages, backgrounds or dietary restrictions.
