The word we kept coming back to with Spillian, was magic. There is a feeling when you step on the property that cannot fully be expressed into words. We truly could not have even dreamed of getting married anywhere else. Not only is the house and surrounding woods absolutely stunning, but the team at Spillian truly is the BEST. Leigh was our incredible officiant, Mark's wisdom helped us flesh out our dinner menu and the gorgeous lights & first dance set up we requested, Chef Christian left all our guests speechless with how good the food was, Sam was my ride or die while planning (and I pestered her a lot with questions!) and Alex was there keeping the ship running smoothly and safely while we were there that weekend! Not to mention every other person who works at Spillian and makes the magic happen behind the scenes. We're eternally grateful to Spillian to making our dream wedding go off without a hitch.
3500 characters is not enough for all the gushing I could do about this magical place. Have your wedding here if you want a truly beautiful location, incredibly delicious food, and an amazing and friendly staff. The whole Spillian team makes you feel like this is your long lost relative’s gorgeous estate that is yours to use and appreciate. They are so thoughtful when it comes to every detail of your experience at Spillian. My husband and I couldn’t be happier with our wedding here. Get married at Spillian!!
What a magical place! Everyone was really in awe how beautiful it was! It just felt so homey and comfortable! We got compliments all night. Owners were so accommodating! Thank you for an amazing experience!
Spillian is a magical place. You see it the very first time you turn onto the grounds and drive down a long, lush road that climbs to reveal a moody Victorian estate at the top. You feel the magic in the ferns, flowers, and trees that surround the area - creating the feeling of mystical protection from the rest of the world. You know this place is magic when you meet the owners, who ooze creativity and kindness with their every word of excitement for what they do. The building is unlike any other, rich with artwork and collected items from around the world. The meadow, where people meet around the fire, get married, and dance under the stars, is clearly crafted with thoughtfulness and rarity that leaves an impression on anyone who's lucky enough to experience it.
The food by Spillian's Chef was impossibly flawless meal after meal - and after being diagnosed with an autoimmune and food allergies a year before the wedding, I didn't really make it easy on him. We had a divine welcome party taco bar, a Mediterranean rehearsal dinner, a special request burrata bar at cocktail hour, fresh, local summer dishes for the wedding dinner, and a to-die-for goodbye brunch.
Not only are the owners creative and kind, but they are also keen on logistics, communication, and collaboration to keep the stress down. It was forecasted to storm terribly off-an-on all weekend, but we had gone all-in on a fully outdoor wedding. They watched the weather and stayed in contact with our vendors in case we had to restructure the wedding inside, but the day of everyone felt we should make the attempt outside - and we got very lucky the weather held up! They are creative problem solvers and will go above and beyond to help make the day go smoothly. Our Wedding cake vendor fell through days before the wedding, and when I asked if they could make a watermelon wedding cake so we could still have that wedding cake moment, they made it happen - and it ended up being an incredibly memorable part of the day.
Pro tips:
-Definitely book it for the weekend and give yourself an extra day to walk the grounds, and sit on the porch.
-It is a historic building and operates as such, including no A/C, so be aware/prepare for that. Climate change is real and it was much hotter the weekend of our wedding than was typical/expected.
- Sign up for their newsletter to get updates on creative workshops, dinner parties, etc. that the owners host throughout the year. We attended a dinner party before we got married and it was so fun to meet locals and other couples who had been married there previously. It's a wonderful community that shares a deep love for Spillian and all it has to offer.
The best word to describe Spillian is magical. We had our queer, nontraditional, multi-day, summer solstice wedding here complete with a pre-wedding bonfire welcome reception and post-wedding day of tasty tacos, axe throwing, games, guided tour of the grounds, and screening of Werewolves Within, which was filmed onsite. The venue and scenery are breathtaking and the food is outstanding. Leigh helped transform our ceremony into a truly personal and meaningful experience, Mark replied masterfully to our long and detailed emails, and the entire staff worked extremely hard to make our entire celebration special, including adapting to several last-minute changes and a tearful phone call right before we arrived when a bad weather forecast and pre-arrival covid exposure threw many plans up in the air. There are inevitably some bumps and hiccups during any major event, but even when we were stressed or worried, Spillian did a wonderful job responding to all of it in stride. It’s truly a special place.
Our wedding at Spillian was truly magical! From the moment we walked in to Spillian, we felt right at home. Mark, and the entire Spillian team, treated us like family. They never made any request seem like too much, on the contrary they encouraged creative touches. Mark went out of his way to set up special lighting for our photo booth. We are still getting compliments on the magnificent cheese bars, the food, and drinks. The house itself is gorgeous; the pictures don't do it justice. If you're looking for a unique venue, Spillian is it!
Words cannot describe how amazing and magical our wedding was at Spillian in September 2016. The rich history and splendid beauty of the house and grounds was matched by the incredible owners and staff of Spillian. The entire planning process leading up to our day Leigh and Mark promised to make all of our dreams a reality, and they sure did not disappoint. Any request/change/issue we had they were sure to answer quickly (always within 24 hours) and with a solution. The weekend itself was beyond anything we could have dreamed. The food was amazing for all three days of our event (and I don’t say that lightly), the team of Leigh, Mark and Laurie made sure all of our guests were taken care of and happy and the scenery was picture perfect. Spillian is perfect for an intimate wedding (we had 73 guests) and one which you want to last all weekend (we had our rehearsal dinner Friday with a delicious BBQ, the wedding Saturday and a sendoff brunch Sunday). The unique venue allowed us to have a non-traditional wedding and reception. Our ceremony was in the meadow, followed by dinner in the house and lastly a dance party and bonfire with s’more bar back in the meadow. What really drew us to this venue was Mark and Leigh. From the beginning they were incredibly easy to work with and made sure everything was perfect. Beyond the venue itself, there was so much for our guests to do in the area which was also a huge draw. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone who is looking for an intimate, unique, fun wedding.
We got married at Spillian in September 2015 and could not be happier with our decision to have our wedding weekend there. Our whole immediate family was able to stay at Spillian which contributed to the ease and comfort of the whole weekend. The rooms are all beautiful and extremely comfortable. The house and grounds are absolutely gorgeous and left quite the impression on all of our guests. We had our ceremony out in the meadow, which is beyond perfect if you are dreaming of an woodsy ceremony. The reception was held in the house - dancing in the living room, food throughout the dining room, the bar, and tables along the porch. The staff made sure each transition went smoothly. Chris McGee did wonders in the kitchen and everyone was raving about how delicious the food was. To end the night we had a bonfire in the meadow, it was the perfect end to a perfect day. Mark and Leigh were absolute pleasures to deal with the entire time. They both made the process so incredibly easy and made sure we got exactly what we wanted for our wedding. Any issues that came up were handled masterly and promptly - even making their own root beer for us when our root beer keg fell through the day before the wedding. We cannot thank them enough for all of their hard work to make our event so perfect. If you are thinking about having a wedding or event at Spillian do it without hesitation - it will be an magical event you will never forget!
