I am a wedding planner that recently worked with Russell for an event at The Edgewater in Madison, WI. He did an incredible job guiding our clients through the design of their event. We were able to work very well together and create a truly memorable experience. Russell is so professional and will elevate your event to new heights as he did ours. He is responsive and always willing to chat on the phone. He created a wonderful first dance/voiceover for our clients and has so many fun ideas to get guests involved in the reception. There was never a dull moment which is an invaluable quality in an entertainer! I highly recommend Spotlight Events!

The best decision we made was hiring Russell as our wedding DJ. When you hire a DJ, you normally don't know what you're getting until the day of (what music they will play, how they will introduce you, etc.), but with Russell we were able to meet multiple times prior to our big day to ensure we were getting exactly what we wanted at our wedding. He was truly more than a DJ, as he helped us plan our complete wedding timeline and was there to help in any way he could. Our dance floor was packed all night with all the best music played. Throughout the night, we had many guests coming up to us telling us that Russell was the best DJ they had ever experienced and we couldn't agree more.

I don't even know where to start for all the reasons you should hire spotlight events to be a part of your special day. We used Russel to be our DJ and he was accommodating in every way possible. He planned out our entire playlist for the entire day with us and had a plan B for everything. We spend hours prior to to our wedding day planning out every little detail. You really don't even think about all the things that go into a wedding until you start planning one. We were going to plan the wedding on our own, but Russel basically planned it for us. He kept our timeline on track and made the day so easy for us. My husband and I had such an amazing night!

Hundreds of reasons to hire Spotlight Events for your wedding or any other event. Our daughter was married in August 2020. We all knew that the music was one of the most important components of the day. We had that and SO MUCH MORE with Spotlight Events. Russell worked tirelessly to make the day great and it was!! We started planning pre-COVID. The bride, groom, and mother of the bride met with Russell to start making plans for the day. Prior to meeting with him, we had been looking for a wedding day planner also. After meeting with Russell, we knew we had found a great D.J. and wedding planner extraordinaire!!! The day was planned, organized, beautiful, and fun! We could not have pulled off this wonderful event without Spotlight Events!! Russell has so much experience that he knows exactly what works and what does not work. He helped us plan out the entire schedule and music for the day. He provided us and our other vendors with a minute by minute itinerary. Everyone was on the same page. Once COVID hit, we put things on hold to see what would happen. Then they opened things up some and we planned the wedding at our venue. Right after we sent out the invitations, the county shut things down again. With not much more than a month to go, Russell helped us orchestrate a scaled down backyard wedding. It was fabulous!! Russell had a plan A and a plan B, if needed, for everything that day. He gave us so many great suggestions regarding timing. It would have been a mess if left to us. We had people on the dance floor all night. He provided the music for the whole day. Great sound outdoors for the wedding ceremony and reception. Everything went as planned. The music added so much to the day. His planning expertise was priceless! We would like to really thank Russ and his crew for doing an absolutely great job during our ceremony, the dance and leading up to our wedding and giving us a great experience. Their flexibility was great. Due to covid 19 our wedding date and venue changed twice, We met with him at both venues during our prep for wedding. We also met with him at his house / Home studio several times to go over all our wedding information and what we wanted. We also went over playlists he had and ones he made up / mixed / mashed up together. The music was awesome the whole night. During dinner and cocktail hour, Russ and his crew kept everything lively, stayed on schedule and helped us stay on track with the nightly schedule. They provided music and microphone for ceremony which turned out great outside. Russ had one of his workers go around during dance and cocktail hour taking really cool pictures / GIFs. Really cool to look back on. Also he provided someone on a video recorder taping our ceremony and the whole night. He kept the dance floor always busy. Provided some really cool accent lighting and provided us as a gift with led colored masks to wear during night. Russ was always very responsive, worked around our schedule and always made the most of our time. Him and his crew did an absolute great job even during a pandemic. They also always wore masks to keep everyone safe. He met with us at the venues well before the dates to go over what he thinks would work best for all of his equipment. He made a great cocktail hour playlist as well as several different fun sets we went over with him and he showed us and played them during the night. We just received the video of our ceremony which turned out great and will always be fun to look back on with family and friends. Once again we would really like to thank Russ and his team for providing us an awesome experience and we would honestly not change one thing that he provided for us. It was perfect!! I would like to start off this review by stating that this rating has nothing to do with the quality of DJ services that Spotlight Events has to offer. This review is based off of the customer service on the business side of Spotlight Events. To start, we had issues with the quote/contract we were given. The first thing Spotlight Events will have you do is call prior clients to ask about their experiences with the DJ. While they all had great things to say, we asked them about the invoice total. We were skeptical on our quote because when we met with Russell he told us it would be an extra $1,000 for him to be our DJ (versus his other DJ). This was not mentioned prior to our meeting so we were a little surprised about this extra fee. When talking to prior clients, (two different couples) neither of them were charged the extra $1,000. Russell claims this was because they did not specifically ask for his services, but he ended up being the only DJ available... At the end of the day, we still moved forward with Spotlight Events, but felt there should have been more transparency with the invoice. A couple of months later, Covid comes along and we had to make drastic changes to our wedding plans (225 people down to 25). We no longer were going to have a dance floor and did not need a DJ for our very small wedding. Spotlight Events would not refund our down payment. Yes, there is a contract. Every wedding vendor has contracts, but Spotlight Events was the ONLY vendor that would not refund our money. These contracts do not address global pandemics and at the end of day Russell was the only one that held that contract against us. Russell did give us an option to transfer our down payment to another couple. We had two different couples approach him. They both wanted a basic DJ service; no special lighting or other additions. Russell would not allow them to have a basic package. Essentially, to use our down payment he was requiring them to have a minimum DJ package; making it extremely difficult for us to transfer our down payment. This entire process has been exhausting and stressful so we have decided to give up.

My fiancé and I recently met with Russell to go through the timeline of our wedding and plan all the reception details and we are thrilled with the decision we made to book him as our DJ. My control issues have been put at ease with wedding planning because of Russell. We are SO excited for our wedding and would not recommend anyone but him!!

A bad review is rare for Spotlight and I have been sitting with my thoughts for almost 2 months before writing this. I tried to be as prescriptive as possible and provided a detailed outline of the day, songs that should play during every portion of the day. I did this because I wanted to make sure I was happy with the service. Sadly, that didn’t help and I was left very disappointed. To outline the details of what went wrong: • Russell didn’t play songs that were on our playlist that were explicit and never explained why or told us beforehand (he did however tell my brother and future sister-in-law after the fact that he will not play music with swear words because of his brand – if he had told us this when we first met, we would’ve hired a different DJ) o The music should be customized to us and what we want. Russell lets his personal opinions dictate what he plays o He made a comment to a bridesmaid about a song that was playing being “inappropriate” – this to me is totally unacceptable. A DJ’s thoughts on a song, especially one REQUESTED by the couple, should be kept to themselves o This comment came off extremely judgmental and that is worse a brand than playing songs with swear words in it o Too many party mixes were played (not from my playlist)– my aunt couldn’t tell he was playing a certain song until he was asked to play the original • The wrong song was played for the grand march so we had to tell him to play the correct song • The volume was off – our venue was open and we heard multiple people after the fact saying the music was too low. I have some empathy for this because I know there were some older guests who asked to turn it down so that was conflicting with direction from others who asked him to turn it up • Requests – we were asked if we want him to play our guest’s requests and we said yes. I should’ve said yes, if the request is fitting. A request was played from the Phantom of the Opera and it needed to stop as soon as it started. It was not appropriate for our wedding, or at almost any wedding at 8 pm • There is a fine line when a DJ talks too much at weddings but it was like he wasn’t even there – Russell didn’t say anything besides introducing us at the grand march and dance. There was no assistance from him to get people on the dance floor during the reception • Songs were cut way too soon – if a song is popular and people are out on the dance floor, why would it be cut short? • I asked for a song to be played, my husband also asked when it still wasn't played, and we asked again. A bride & groom should NEVER have to wait to hear a song they request immediately. Ultimately, I value the DJ so much at weddings. They really make the party happen (with the help of alcohol, of course) and every time we met or spoke with Russell he made it seem like he knew exactly that and was confident he would do that. The dance floor on my wedding day was rarely full and left me very disappointed. Russell came up to us throughout the evening and asked if we needed anything, brought us appetizers, etc. That was very nice at the time but now I wish he would’ve just focused on being the DJ instead of our personal attendant. Plenty of people could have brought us drinks but no one else could DJ. Spotlight Events offers a lot of services: lighting, photobooth, etc. We didn’t purchase any extras so I’m not sure if as much care and attention was put into our wedding compared to those who may have spent more.

Every one of our guests told us about how much they loved DJ Russell. He had everyone on their feet dancing the night away. He was a pleasure to work with. We couldn't have asked for a better wedding DJ. Highly recommend!

I was very concerned about finding a good DJ. It is hard to look for a DJ unless you go to events all the time. So I asked our venue person for a recommendation. She said that she did not usually take note of DJs but highly recommend Spotlight Events. She explained how professional they were and how nice of a job they did. When I asked for the contact information, she was so protective of the business card, she would not even let me hold the card to take a picture. When we met with Russell, he went through everything in detail which helped us layout our wedding day schedule. He always answered the phone when we called and was flexible with meeting times. He was genuinely excited to DJ our wedding and cared about our day. On the day of the wedding, Russell and Greg came very early to set up everything for our ceremony and reception. They helped direct guests to where they had to go for the ceremony, brought us refreshments while we were taking photos, ran the photo booth (which was a hit!) and asked our guests during dinner for music requests. My husband and I highly recommend Spotlight Events!

Words cannot express how thankful we are to have had Spotlight Events as our wedding DJ and entertainer. Russell was amazing! He made our wedding reception a party that no guest would forget. Much more than just a DJ, Russell made our night very personal - he interacted with our guests, and even played bartender for the wedding party! Our guests are still talking about how our wedding was the best one they had ever been to, and Russell had a large part in it. As we entered our reception, any worries we had were gone when we saw Russell. Russell was there to greet the wedding party with a variety of drinks and catered to our needs so we could enjoy as much time as possible with guests. He took the time in the planning process with us to know what our hopes were for our big day. We knew exactly what songs he would be playing, and in turn, he knew how to pronounce everyone’s name in the wedding party along with our timeline for the night. And he did an extraordinary job in keeping us on time throughout the night. Russell also went above and beyond by putting together our love story for our first dance which was the highlight of our wedding to many of our guests. We are so thankful that Russell was there to fulfill our one greatest request of having a packed dance floor for the night. We accomplished that goal with his amazing music and upbeat attitude. It was always packed to the point where our reception staff even had to fix the dance floor a few times throughout the night! We would highly recommend Russell for any event, whether wedding, birthday, or anything else. Heard about Russell at Spotlight Events through a family member who highly recommended him, and she was right! Russell was fantastic to work with, and comes with a lot of experience. He helped us with scheduling our big day and keeping us on track. The dance floor was never empty, and he's amazing at reading the crowd and keeping it fun! (And we had 250 guests!) Our day went so smoothly, and he was a huge component of that. I would highly recommend Russell for your wedding!

Russell was extremely helpful throughout our entire planning process. Not only did he help with the music/entertainment plans, but he also gave us numerous helpful tips and ideas for the day of. We really appreciated how much Russell listened to us and worked with any changes we made, even changes we made on the day of. A great DJ makes a great party and wedding reception. Russell Welch is that great DJ and then some! He is so much more than a DJ... actually you do not need a wedding planner. He helps you with the timeline for your special day takes care of all your guests and has the best music in town! We have used Russell Welch - Spotlight Events for two of our children's weddings. In fact if he was already booked for the date our daughter chose for her wedding we would have moved the date in order to have Russell. He is so flexible and has great ideas to add that special touch to fit you and your guests. The voice over on the first dance is so special, all our guests commented after that they had never experienced anything like this before. Russell Welch of Spotlight Events is outstanding! He is an experienced wedding DJ and it shows. While working with him from out of state, my daughter and her fiancé were very impressed by his good communication and friendly manner. Together, they crafted Must Play and Must Not Play lists and discussed how the music would progress throughout the evening. At the event, the sound system for the speeches worked flawlessly and Russell helped transition smoothly from one talk to the next. When it came time to dance, Russell knew what to play to keep our group on the dance floor having fun, and he even joined us for a polka! It was wonderful to find a DJ who could be fun and entertaining, keep the night moving, all while keeping the focus on the bride and groom. Spotlight Events could not have delivered more!

We got married at the Madison Masonic Center in October. We chose Spotlight Events without much debate. We had the pleasure of knowing Greg ("Mr. O") prior to shopping around for vendors for our wedding. He is one of the most knowledgeable, easiest to work with music professionals we met. He was able to answer all of the questions we had, suggested appropriate ideas for our entertainment, and provided top-notch MC service on the night of our wedding. We opted for the Love Story add-on for our first dance and had a wonderful time with him while recording it and were incredibly pleased with how it turned out. The up-lighting was great, and after a minor miscommunication, was easily adapted to our event. We received nothing but positive remarks about the music selection from all of our guests we spoke to. They had a nice blend of classics and modern music that got just about everyone out on the dance floor. Greg is a wonderful person overall and was great to work with. You are absolutely in good hands if you choose Spotlight Events.

We truly feel that Spotlight Events made our day unforgettable for both us and our guests. Leading up to our wedding day, Greg was willing to meet with us several times to make sure we felt comfortable with every detail. His experience and thoughtfulness made planning for the day a piece of wedding cake. We leaned on Greg to play tasteful music for our ceremony and to play music that kept the dance floor occupied and he did a great job. Many guests commented throughout the night how great our DJ was and we still get compliments months after saying how great our wedding/DJ was. We also had a special Grand March planned that a friend helped us with. Greg was fantastic and was able to mix music/audio live to make the entrance go incredibly smooth. He is a true professional and you can be extremely confident in his ability. Greg even drove to our venue the night of our rehearsal so we could practice to the actual ceremony music! We were blown away. We highly suggest booking Greg with Spotlight Events. He will make your day even more memorable than you ever thought possible.

Russell was a fantastic DJ! Music from the ceremony all the way through the last song was perfect. Every song that was played kept you on the dance floor. All of guests told us how awesome the music was. Everyone said our wedding was a great party and Russell was a big part in that!

Russell/Spotlight Events did a FABULOUS job at my daughter's wedding this summer! He set up equipment at both her outdoor ceremony venue (Holy Wisdom Monastery) and the reception (Blackhawk Country Club). The music and sound systems far exceeded our expectations! First the ceremony: I've been to several outdoor ceremonies where no one can hear the music and the speaking. The outdoor space at Holy Wisdom is large - like a prairie setting - and everyone could hear! The walk through the prairie to the seated guests and archway where the couple got married was a very long distance. Russell did a GREAT job keeping the music loop going. It took some time for the grandparents to walk down and get seated and the song was nearing the end; I thought for sure I would be walking down in silence. But Russell had it covered! Without missing a beat, the music looped and continued flawlessly. The ceremony music was loud enough for everyone to hear and enjoy. Russell started playing while the guests were being seated, and I heard a lot of positive feedback about the pre-ceremony music. He played fun music after the ceremony while the couple ushered their guests out of their seats. (My daughter had made a playlist, and Russell stuck to her preferences.) Also, the sound system was great with respect to hearing the officiant and the couple exchange their vows. The reception: Russell was all set up and ready when my husband and I got to Blackhawk. He had great background music playing and also greeted guests asking for requests. Again, the sound system for all the speeches was great! All guests could hear the speeches, and I again heard great feedback about this. Russell played nice dinner music and quickly went into the dance as requested. THERE WAS NEVER A TIME WHEN THE DANCE FLOOR WAS NOT FULL! I could not believe it! Russell kept the music loop going and played a nice range of music types. He also stuck to my daughter's "Do Not Play" list. I would definitely hire Russell/Spotlight Events again. I recommend this business without reservation. Music is a HUGE part of a successful wedding day, and I am so happy my daughter choose Spotlight Events.

Russell Welch at Spotlight Events could not have made our wedding better! He was great to work with and he literally took care of everything, from greeting guest, to get wedding party drinks, to planning the entire event. He took care of the smallest details to the biggest. I don't think our wedding would of been flawless without him. The most unique part of his DJ skills is the voice-over during the special dances. Every single guest gets pulled in and is truly part of the moment. I would choose Russell over and over again!

I am so glad we worked with Russell from Spotlight Events for our wedding. He was so easygoing and confident that it allowed us to feel comfortable letting him take care of the flow of the reception. I grew up in the Madison area, but we live in Kansas so we were planning the wedding from out of state which was pretty stressful. After talking to Russell over the phone once, I knew we could cross DJ questions off the list of things to worry about. Russell added so much to our reception, from the flow of the evening, to the music that kept people on the dance floor all night. He even played us an extra song at the end of the night when it was really just the last of our friends dancing. I highly recommend working with Russell for your event.

My now-wife and I could not have been happier with Russel's performance on behalf of Spotlight Events, he absolutely made the reception an event to be remembered. Just to start with some accolades, I had a several good friends confide that our reception was one of the most fun receptions that they had been to for weddings and while I was flattered it was definitely due in large part to our wonderful DJ. Second, I was a bit skeptical of how much we really needed a DJ before the wedding, but some of my friends convinced me I was being crazy and my wife also said it would make her more comfortable not having to worry about any technical difficulties or problems arising from not having someone constantly manning the music. All that being said, I was foolish to think that we didn't need a DJ because Russel added so much more to the wedding reception than merely "pushing play" on playlist. He helped smooth over the gaps in our planning for our entrance to the reception by asking us for just the information he needed and then took care of the rest. He was constantly on top of the mood on the dance floor and switching music genres and songs to get more people involved; there wasn't a single moment where there was nobody on the dance floor the entire night! In fact, during some portions he even got out on the dance floor himself to enjoy himself and keep the spirit alive since he was quite a skilled dancer as well. He honored all of our ridiculous song requests as well, expertly transitioning into the song and not overplaying it if people weren't feeling it. All of this came with veeerry little required input on our side of things. We told him generally that we wanted music to start "classic" in the beginning and shift into younger more current music towards the middle and end of the evening and we also told him the songs for the special dances at the beginning. Everything else was his doing, leaving us to enjoy the wonderful evening. If I had known in advance how much Russel would have added to the evening, I would not have even hesitated to hire a DJ, but I sure am glad that we ended up going with Spotlight Entertainment. I've read a good handful of the other reviews on here and they also seem to echo our experiences, so it seems that consistency is yet another great quality that Russel brings to the table.

Spotlight Events/Greg did an amazing job. There was never a dull moment and the dance floor was always packed. During the first dance song/voiceover, people were crying as was I. I can't express how amazing they were to be there to celebrate our wedding day, Spotlight Events made the day so much more special.

Before using Spotlight Events for our wedding, we experienced their services at a previous wedding. Because we had already attended one of his events, Russell made it his goal to exceed our current expectations of him. He and his team hit it out of the park. Russell provided a fantastic night of entertainment during our wedding. He was professional, charismatic, meticulous, and helpful. During our meetings, Russell used his experience to answer many of the timing questions we had regarding the day’s schedule. This helped us put all of the events and time-frames into perspective and eased our minds as to the multiple aspects of the day (cake cutting, grand march, photos, etc.). All of this was before we even discussed the music. When we created our playlist, it was customized to our tastes. However, it was not an overwhelming task due to the amount of work he put in prior to the meeting. We had to make a lot of decisions between a few songs, which is far more manageable than planning every single song we would use. It is also more special than a cookie-cutter playlist that any DJ could prepare for all weddings. Additionally, he was fantastic with the crowd, and he was able to gauge how to keep the party going. The end result was a wedding and reception where everyone had a blast with a packed dance floor until the end. In fact, even the pastor mentioned that it was the most fun wedding she had ever officiated. We have nothing but good things to say about our experience. Please utilize Spotlight Events as everyone deserves the best wedding possible, and this company is worth every penny.

Spotlight Events helped make our wedding day a day that we will never forget. Russell was very easy to work with and was willing to help with more than just being a DJ. The music and the photo booth were both awesome and we would highly recommend spotlight events for any weddings or special events. We had many people throughout our wedding night comment on how wonderful spotlight events was and how they constantly kept everyone on the dance floor. Russell is not only engaging, but was a very approachable person who interacted well with the guests. He sat us down to help create our timeline and was very open to our ideas and wishes. Russ was very kind and helpful. We had our wedding at a vacation rental up north, he showed up early and played music for everyone to finish getting ready to before our string trio started playing. He played good music the whole night, kept everyone dancing, everyone really enjoyed it.

We cannot thank Russell and Spotlight Events enough for their time and effort making our wedding incredible. No other vendor showed the dedication, effort, and professionalism that Spotlight Events put into making sure our wedding was exactly what we wanted it to be. They planned out everything to be what we wanted (music, lighting, extras, logistics coordination, etc) and were able to make changes to anything at any point beforehand and throughout the night to make sure that we and our guests had as much fun as possible. We are still receiving overwhelming feedback about how much our guests enjoyed their time and the show Russell put on. He truly did make it a unique experience that was tailored to fit our our personalities and the mood of our wedding. The personal touches Russell adds as a DJ to make each experience (mother-son/father-daughter dances, cake cutting, speeches) special are second to none. This is so much more than just a DJ playing music. This is a full production and it is clear to everyone there that this will not be your average reception. Guests absolutely loved the unique photo mirror and atmosphere created in our reception venue. Often overlooked is the DJ setup itself. Russell has a clean, classy setup for his equipment that does not take away from the reception space. It does not intrude in any way and this is something that stood out significantly and could not be more appreciated. BOTTOM LINE: You will not find a better, more personal and professional experience. Period.

We also did the voice-over/love story for our first dance it brought everyone to tears and surprised all our guests who wished they could have had something so special for their wedding. He was even involved in our ceremony making a special song cut of "lava you" and the music from "UP" to fit in to our disney/pixar themed wedding based around the movie "UP". Since he has so many years of experience he told us that we should do our first dance right after the grand march. Spotlight Events had the lighting system absolutely perfect. Russell made a special playlist for our guest to enjoy during our pre-ceremony gathering we had for those to go to before our wedding so our guests never had down time and were constantly entertained, enjoying our celebration even when we weren't able to be around. Kept the whole wedding moving with a seamless flow. He made sure to make announcements as to when we were arriving, cutting cake, etc. Spotlight Events was the absolute best DJ service I have ever experienced when attending a wedding. We hired Russell (Spotlight Events) for my daughter’s event in August and were just blown away! Everything was meticulously planned; weeks beforehand, Russell had laid out a suggested flow for the evening and gave us great advice about timing various activities. He made a custom dinner-music mix themed to the party to add to the atmosphere while guests were enjoying the meal. The Spotlight Voice Over during the Father/Daughter dance got such an emotional response from our guests that some of them are still talking about it months later. The dance mix kept everyone involved all night long and so many of our guests told us that this was by far the best DJ they had ever experienced. We agree wholeheartedly!

I can't say enough good things about Russell. Your DJ will make or break your event, and he definitely made ours. We have received so many compliments on our choice of DJ. He kept the party going and made sure the dance floor was always full. He checked in with us throughout the night to make sure we were happy with how things were going. He provided entertainment for our guests, either with mini bike races or dancing behind his booth (seriously, so fun to watch!). We chose to do the voice over "love story" for our first dance. This was the highlight of our event and I'm so thankful to have that recording to keep forever. Russell was a bit out of our budget but he was worth every penny.

Russ was such an asset at my sister's wedding! He went above and beyond all of our expectations and was incredibly accommodating. He ensured that all of the guests were happy and having a good time. Russ was truly the backbone to our wedding. He coordinated with our other vendors and kept things running smoothly so I didn’t have to worry about anything. Our guests loved the photo booth and beautiful lighting he provided, and when my husband and I didn’t feel entirely comfortable with the Voice Over Love Story during our first dance, he coordinated with our parents to do Voice Overs during our father daughter and mother son dances. Family is so important to us and we loved that he knew that and was able to incorporate it so beautifully into our day. He had a variety of music choices and went over everything with us in advance to make sure we kept the party going all night. He was even able to incorporate some of our weirder music choices so our reception was very “us”. I would 100% recommend Spotlight Events to everyone!

Two years of planning for the perfect wedding day all started with Russell, dj from Spotlight Events. He welcome the bride and groom into the studio of his home where he personally got to know each one of them. On the day of the wedding, many of the wedding guests commented on how they were taken back that the dj had greeted them at the door making them feel welcome. I have attended many wedding receptions where the dj plays music but the guests do not dance. This was not the case. The reception was so much fun and the music was excellent for all ages. Keeping the dance floor full the entire evening. I would highly recommend Spot Events! Thank you Russell.

Working with Russell from Spotlight Events was an absolute pleasure. As a best man to one of two joyful brides planning a wedding on only 6 weeks notice, I found his expertise as a planner, master of ceremonies, and entertainer to be invaluable. The services he provided - including playlist and activity customization, multimedia recording and editing, and follow-up - genuinely blew me away. Russell's first priority is to tie the emotions of such a big, important day in to his shows while demonstrating sincere caring and respect. In this case, he was highly successful! The ladies' reception was one of the happiest and most fun parties I have ever been to, and, being on New Year's Eve, there was some anxiety about guests leaving early. We needn't have worried! The reception was engaging and family friendly without being childish, and Russell continued to perform after his scheduled departure time, as about two-thirds of the guests remained until the final song. Though he may cost a little more than other options, I found Russell and Spotlight Events to be worth every penny.

We met Russ, of Spotlight Events, at the Bridal Expo in Madison just after getting engaged, about a year and a half before our wedding. We were just going to get ideas with no intention of choosing anyone or anything on that day. Russ politely caught our attention and brought us in to hear about something “you wouldn’t see anywhere else.” Our interest was piqued, but we weren’t sure if it would live up to the hype. Russ had us listen to another couple’s first dance song - with the twist that the couple did a voice over telling their individual love story throughout the song. The outcome was sentimental and touching. Fast forward a year and we have a date, a location, almost all of our vendors booked - except for a DJ. We immediately thought of Russ and the great impression he made on us that day. We set up a meeting with Russ and booked him that same day. We were impressed by the level of one-on-one customization he was willing to go through and the personal touches he made to make us feel like our wedding reception would be a hit. We are both introverted people and our biggest fear was that the dance floor would be empty. Russ reassured us that would not be a problem and we fortunately made the great decision to trust him. We met with Russ a number of times leading up to the wedding to work on our playlist and custom First Dance / Voice-Over. You really need to hear an example of his work to realize how special this is. Fast forward again, to our wedding day, and Russ continued to go above and beyond, for not only us, but for all of our guests. Our cocktail hour was outside and it was a warm 80+ degrees and he was walking around making sure everyone had a drink in hand, offering myself and my husband a number of much needed glasses of water to keep us hydrated! Our First Dance was a hit and saying there wasn’t a dry eye in the house isn’t even an exaggeration! Everyone was so impressed and wanted to hear more about how we had done it! As a bonus, if you’re nervous about your first dance - you don’t have to be, with Russ executing your song like this, everyone will be so captivated by the romantic moment that they won’t notice your lack of dance skills :) After dinner, the start of the dance went off without a hitch, as Russ engaged our guests and got them all, and I mean ALL, out on the floor! We have the pictures to prove it! And to think we were genuinely concerned that no one but our closest friends would be out there with us! Russ had a number of surprises and activities that flowed smoothly and kept everyone entertained. By the end of the night, we were so pleased with how well everything had gone and didn’t want to let it end - in big part to Russ’s involvement! We are so glad that we trusted him and invested in such a skilled DJ, so that we could have such a perfect night. Spotlight Events was worth every penny!

Words cannot express how thankful we are that we had Russell a part of our wedding day. We truly appreciate everything he did for us during our wedding reception and even the months leading up to it. We were very displeased with our DJ services offered by Russell. From being rude to the grooms father to forgetting detailed things at the wedding service to playing the wrong song for father daughter dance! This DJ was a train wreck! Would not recommend this DJ nor his services! Don't be fooled by his impressive talk! For this DJ's price tag you can do much better!

If you want your guests to still be talking about your reception/dance YEARS after the event took place, THESE ARE THE GUYS TO GET! Russell was the DJ for our wedding and he was worth every single penny. From the beginning of the event until the last song of the night, he had everyone on the dance floor - EVERYONE. Including my 80+ year old grandma and she loved every second! I was able to meet with him a couple of times before our reception to "fine tune" our entire event. I appreciated so much that he really took the time to make our party our own, and not just do a cookie cutter event and have my wedding be just like everyone else's wedding. I was able to black-list songs (I had no interest in making my guests do the hokey pokey) and was even able to customize our first dance song. Everything about our night was perfect and we owe almost all of that to the great job Russell with Spotlight Events did. Hands down best choice of my entire wedding experience (second only to my choice of the groom) :)

We were more than fortunate to have Russ as the DJ at our wedding. I use the term DJ lightly because he was so much more than that. He was our wedding planner and support system throughout the entire wedding planning process. Russ was able to give us amazing advice because he has seen what works and what doesn't, yet he was never pushy. We had some very specific requests with our reception which Russ gladly honored. In return provided some fun substitutes to the more traditional wedding reception songs/events. . Best wedding reception ever! We had a blast and the music got everyone involved in our party from age 1 to 101. It was truly amazing!

Greg's services were outstanding, and worry free. He really went above and beyond at our wedding last September. He was ready for anything, rain or shine (it stormed for us). He had a few surprises up his sleeve that we hadn't thought we needed or planned for, but ended up being perfect, and totally memorable. I wouldn't have had it any other way.

This was the best part of our Wedding. He sat down and listened to us and really worked with us. We wanted a very fun reception and at one point my Grandmother was dancing with a Feather Boa!! All the kids loved it, he really keeps the show going. That's what we wanted but I really liked him and he was good about really taking the time and listening to us personally. If you want someone just to make sure everyone is having a great time and dancing he plays great dancing tunes for all ages. I felt very special. For our songs we picked really weird songs for Father Daughter and My Husband and I and he went and found what we wanted. Can't recommend him More.

Russell Welch with Spotlight Events was the DJ at my wedding and he was AMAZING!!!!!! I could not have asked for a better experience! Russell sat down with us and really listened to our needs and music style. I absolutely loved the fact that he asked how much involvement we wanted him to have at the reception and then gave you choices and examples of what he meant. We choose maximum involvement and WOW we had a blast!!! He had the groomsman racing the best man on a mini bike. The men at my wedding sang My Girl to me while he sang up prop cards behind me. He had a kiss off between my parents and the groom. I am a teacher so making children happy goes a long way with me. Russell had a children's song where he taught them dance moves along to the music. Throughout the wedding he made my husband Adam and I look amazing by making statements like "Gina and Adam would like you to..." He was so supportive and really did beyond the call of duty for a DJ without being in your face. He even took care of things we hadn't thought about. For example we had Goldfish at each table and what were we gonna do with all these fish? He gave them away in a game he made up around the tables. Anyone and everyone that attended my wedding always says they remember the DJ and that our wedding was the most fun of any wedding they have ever attended. Hands down the best in the business!!!!!! Russell Welch from Spotlight Events was our DJ (and so much more) for our wedding on August 8, 2015. When I describe Russell and his services to family and friends I always say that he is not just a DJ. Instead he is an artist. He mixes music so that your guests will NEVER want to leave the dance floor. Not only did I have the opportunity to work with Russell for my wedding, but I was also a guest at a wedding that he DJ'd for and it was the best wedding we had ever been to. Russell will set up a meeting with you and go over all of the music that he (or the three of you) have selected for the evening. He also does amazing voiceovers for first dance songs which was something my guests were extremely impressed by. Our parents both commented on how personable Russell was and how impressed they were with all the "extra" things he did throughout the day/night to make everything run so smoothly. For example, he continually brought guests drinks from the bar, passed around mints after dinner, prepared drinks for the bridal party before the grand march, and SO much more. Hands down, Russell is an amazing DJ, entertainer, and artist. I would HIGHY recommend Russell for your next event.
