The Stanley Historic Space and Aspen Room is a two-building event complex in old downtown Lee's Summit, Missouri. This family-run venue services the greater Kansas City area. Like the many of the surrounding historic properties, the complex is housed in two classic red brick buildings. The old-fashioned atmosphere isn't limited to the exterior—both indoor spaces also have a traditional look—created with a mixture of rustic and vintage design elements.
The entire venue has a maximum capacity of 280 guests. Both ceremonies and receptions can be held on-site, and couples have their pick of four event spaces to use:
This indoor event room has a mix of modern and vintage flair. Its high ceilings are covered with ornately patterned tin, as was the fashion in original Victorian architecture. Contemporary touches make the area feel fresh and stylish. You may hold both your ceremony and reception in The Historic Space.
Featuring a waterfall and green space, this outdoor area can be utilized for both ceremonies and receptions. It's fully equipped to accommodate DJs and the use of electrical equipment.
This indoor area's beautiful antique vibe will add romance and nostalgia to your wedding. It has 14-foot patterned tin ceilings hung with opulent chandeliers and supported with exposed wood beams. Distressed wood covers the bar, as well as the entryway. The room features hardwood floors, large windows and multiple other amenities. It may be used for ceremonies and receptions.
Attached to the Aspen room, the outdoor balcony has covered space for reception seating. Its terra cotta stone tiling pairs beautifully with the rugged wood of the exterior walls.
What You Should Know
Making reservations as early as possible is recommended because The Stanley Historic Space and Aspen Room books up quickly. There's a 30-guest minimum. The site is handicap accessible, and liability insurance is provided. Outside alcohol is not permitted. All wedding packages offered by The Stanley Historic Space and Aspen Room include:

The complex is happy to provide a list of recommended vendors. However, couples are welcome to use other vendors of their choosing so long as they are licensed and insured. Regarding food preparation and serving, there are no full-size refrigerators on-site. Coordinate with your catering vendor to account for this.
Past couples that have held their weddings here have raved about the quality of service provided by the attentive, flexible staff. The friendly team will gladly work with you as you figure out ideas and zero in on your perfect wedding day plans. If last-minute changes need to be made, the staff will accommodate them with ease.
The Stanley Historic Space and Aspen Room has an online catalog of decor couples can browse and use for planning. The catalog features an ever-expanding inventory of display ornaments and accessories, with clear rental pricing for each item. The venue hosts a free annual bridal event, sponsored by The Knot, where you can discover top-quality vendors. It's also available for booking bridal showers, bridal luncheons and engagement parties.

Thank you to Cindy and Bryan King for another fantastic wedding at The Aspen Room at The Stanley! We just had our youngest daughter's wedding reception there last weekend, and for the second time, they did not disappoint!! In 2013 we booked our oldest daughter's wedding at The Aspen Room from architectural floor plans and looking at textile samples in meetings with Cindy. Just from seeing what they had done with The Stanley Historic Place, we knew what we were seeing on paper would be spectacular. So we booked on paper plans on a leap of faith. I think we were the 2nd wedding at The Aspen Room once they opened. It was fabulous!! Fast forward 4 years later, we just had our 2nd wedding in the family there! In 2014 we moved to Dallas, and when my youngest got engaged, we looked in Dallas at several locations to have the wedding. Nothing compared to The Aspen Room and the Kings and what all they do for you and have to offer. It is top notch. So, Lindsay decided that if most of her friends would have to travel to Dallas or Lee's Summit, she chose to go back home and have a "destination wedding" at The Aspen Room at The Stanley in Lee's Summit. They are just amazing people to work with, so helpful, amazing atmosphere, beautiful building inside and out, I can go on and on. They are so awesome it made planning a long distance wedding seem like I still lived there! If anyone is looking for a fantastic venue where you get the best customer service, look no further! And downtown Lee's Summit has so many neat little restaurants and shops, all my guests just raved about the entire downtown area. It's a great wedding location!! I highly recommend. We have had 2 weddings there, and if we had any more weddings to host (thank goodness we don't!!), we would not think twice about where to go. They do not disappoint!!! Thank you again Cindy and Bryan and the staff at The Stanley. We had a great time for the second time, and can't thank you enough for everything!!! They are rockstars at weddings!!!
My husband and I got married at The Aspen Room on 6/10/17. It was an absolute dream. From the exposed brick walls and tin ceilings, to the rooftop access where we held our ceremony. We absolutely LOVED this space. Jennifer and her staff were so helpful in every aspect of our wedding. They made the entire wedding planning process easy. I would recommend this space to anyone looking for a venue space. Thank you all so much for your hard work you put in to our big day! It was a true fairy-tale!
I can't say enough good things about The Aspen Room. Before I was even engaged, I knew it would be perfect. Unfortunately, since we decided to get married only 3 months after we got engaged, the venue was not available. Surprise, surprise, within 1 week, a perfect storm arose and the venue opened up for the exact date we wanted. Just like that, we had our venue! Cindy & staff were great to work with. I think I was a bit in a blur with how quickly we planned things, but overall I don't know what I would have done without Cindy and her great skills to help plan and organize. Our DJ, our caterer, and any other vendors spoke directly with Cindy and that relieved some of my stress. With our unique scenario and short time frame, it was a pleasure to work with people that do this for a living and strive to make your day the best day. Other venues we had looked at did not necessarily offer these perks. Just make sure all of your desires and understandings are expressed, they will work with you. Thank you so much again for working with our budget and for making our wedding day the best!
I don’t even know where to start! If I could give more than 5 stars I certainly would. I knew as soon as I got engaged I wanted to be married at The Aspen Room @ The Stanley, and have a Beauty and The Beast themed wedding. What a STUNNING venue! Oh and let me tell you about the owners and how amazing they are...... Unfortunately my mom got sick before the wedding and had done most of my wedding planning. Cindy King one of the owners told my mom to have a seat, surpervise, and she would take care of getting the space ready. WOW, what venue would do that? Thank you Cindy for being such an angel to me and my mom! My husband and I received SO many compliments how gorgeous the venue was, and how everything was so perfect! I remember so many guests saying, what a “true fairy tale wedding” we had. Let me not forgot Bryan, Tyler, and the rest of the staff at the venue..... they played a huge part in the success of my wedding being the BEST day of my life!! Thank you Cindy for helping with so many things you didn’t have to help with, and weren’t really your responsibility. Beautiful venue that had so many great features! The decor was provided for via the Stanley and was gorgeous (they had a huge closet of decorations we could ask to borrow for the wedding) the ceremony/reception change over was great, and I felt very taken care of! They did all the set up and clean up which was wonderful. Sometimes communication was a bit difficult, there seemed to be a few mis-understandings. The Stanley provided a day of coordinator, which was great, but there were a few misunderstandings that happened that I was disappointed with. Overall it was a lovely venue and guests loved the decor and space! We had a large wedding (250) and there was still plenty of room.
We were so blessed to work with the staff at The Stanley for my daughter Kayla's wedding! It was simply beautiful - I've received so many comments on how gorgeous it was! The chandeliers, lighting, decor...it was all stunning! And with all that was included (tables, chairs, linens, centerpiece vases and candleholders), the price couldn't be beat. I did most of the planning for my daughter, and Jennifer was so incredibly patient with my endless questions! The only drawback was that we had a 4:00 ceremony and were not allowed access to the building until 1:00, so we were a little rushed to get everything set up in time. So if you plan to also hold the ceremony in the same room, I would definitely recommend scheduling it later in the day. But the staff was incredibly helpful and did everything they could to help us get ready and clean up afterwards. Thank you so much Jennifer and Stanley staff for a glorious day! We booked the Aspen Room and rooftop for our wedding a few weeks ago. As soon as I saw the venue, I knew it was the one. My mom and I toured a couple others, but we were comparing all of them to the Stanley. Even though it was more than I wanted to spend, I knew I wasn't going to be happy with any place else. We worked with Jennifer to book our date and decide on décor options from their Something Borrowed catalog. We kept our centerpieces and other décor to a minimum - the space is so gorgeous it doesn't need much of anything else! We were supposed to have our ceremony on the rooftop. Our day-of coordinator approached up 20 minutes before it was supposed to start to tell us we either start then or we postpone until later in the evening to avoid the giant rain shower that was headed our way. Despite moving the ceremony up, the skies opened up just as my husband started down the aisle with his grandma. Before I had any idea what was happening, the Stanley staff immediately jumped into action. Between helping our guests inside out of the rain, saving our ceremony flowers and backdrop wreaths, and protecting the videographer's and pianist's equipment, they also managed to start flipping the indoor reception space. Regina and her crew were simply amazing! I didn't see any of it, but everyone raved about the speed, grace, and professionalism they demonstrated during the room flip.. both into a ceremony space and then back into the reception space. They were incredibly organized and helped us stick to our tight timeline. Despite the unexpected room flip and ceremony relocation, we were still on schedule with our original timeline. Incredible! Jennifer and Regina and the rest of their staff went above and beyond to make sure our day was as seamless as possible!
We had our wedding in the Aspen Room and on the rooftop, it was so beautiful! And I cannot thank Cindy enough for all of the advise and help she gave us, without her we couldn't have made it! The day of everything went pretty smoothly, there were a couple mishaps, but nothing major and once we told someone, it was taken care of. Everyone loved the venue and the suites were wonderful to get ready in! THANK YOU!
I cannot say enough positive things about this venue. They were there every step of the wedding planning process to assist me with whatever I needed. The day of the wedding, they handled any crisis/issue that came up! Beautiful venue with an even better staff! Cindy King was amazing to work with!!!
We were married here about 2 weeks ago and it was FANTASTIC! I loved both of the venues, the staff was incredible, and every time me and my husband talked about the wedding we are just SO glad that we picked the Stanley! Cindy was so calm and helpful :D would recommend!
The Stanley (Aspen Room) was the most perfect venue for our wedding and reception. From the moment I saw it, I knew it had to be where we got married. The room is so gorgeous we barely needed decor. We worked mainly with Jennifer - who was beyond professional and friendly. She answered my many questions quickly and put my mind at ease about any concerns. Julie was on site the day of and made sure everything ran smoothly. Having wonderful people to work with the day-of makes a HUGE difference! The venue also provided tables, linens, chairs, and some centerpieces. Not having to rent these items checked a lot off my to do list. I am so happy with our decision to have our wedding at the Stanley and will forever recommend it to anyone getting married.
Had an amazing experience and wedding at the Stanley Historic Event Space! As an out of town bride they put my worries at ease and made sure everything was taken care of from beginning to end. Cindy, Tyler, and the staff at The Stanley are absolutely fantastic! My husband and I married in October 2016 and had our reception in the Aspen Room. We honestly could not have been more satisfied with the service we received! Cindy and Tyler went above and beyond to help us through all parts of the planning process. Tyler showed us the space initially during an impromptu visit- we just happened to pop in while he was around. We were more than impressed with the beauty of the Stanley and came back for a formal meeting with Cindy.... and we were hooked! Cindy was overly accommodating. She helped me through multiple phases of the planning process, to include recommending other vendors and letting me change my mind no less than three times on table linens and centerpieces :) She was upfront and honest, genuine, and pleasant. Throughout the planning process, my husband and I discovered that Cindy and The Stanley are well known in the local wedding community. They have an outstanding reputation throughout. Every time we contacted a potential vendor and told them where we had booked our reception, they raved about how great Cindy and her team are to work with! Cindy took all of the heavy lifting off of me, and made me feel completely at ease. She told me who to call for what (in terms of vendors), and went so far as to create a detailed table layout so that I would have something to refer to when setting up table centerpieces and other decor. On Wedding Day, we received stellar service. Everything was setup as promised, and The Stanley staff went out of their way to make sure that our day was absolutely perfect. At the end of the night, the staff went above and beyond to help my parents pack up all of our decorations and make sure that nothing was left behind. I could go on and on trying to articulate how satisfied we were with the Stanley, but nothing I could say would ever quite to do it justice. Cindy, Tyler, and the Stanley are simply fantastic!
If I could give The Stanley 10 stars I would. Cindy and her staff at The Stanley are amazing to work with. They are so kind and really care about you throughout the entire wedding planning process. They are always a phone call or email away. Our wedding day ran perfectly thanks to everyone there. They made the day so magical. You know they are there, but yet you don't ever see them. They went way out of their way to make everything so perfect for us to setting out cake cutting tools when we didn't have any, to setting up decorations I brought in. The Aspen Room and Rooftop are absolutely beautiful and I am so happy we decided to have our wedding here!
The Stanley Rooftop for our ceremony and Aspen room for our reception was the perfect choice for our wedding day. The coordinators are amazing and working with Cindy to plan the big day made everything run smoothly day of. The rooftop is gorgeous and provided the perfect sunset wedding ceremony we were looking for. When things went wrong with our caterer the staff helped us tremendously and kept us from having to deal with them on our big day. A huge plus is not having to do any major set up before or cleaning after. The nicest part is getting to pick from the large selection of onsite decor and not having to buy linens for the tables. I had so many comments on how gorgeous this venue was. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a stress-free, all-inclusive wedding venue.
The staff at The Stanley Aspen Room made our reception night more than we ever excpeted! They made everything easy and perfect for us and made sure we enjoyed every second and not have to worry about anything but enjoying our night! The venue itself is one of the most beautiful and well maintained spaces. We will recommend this venue to anyone and everyone! I'm not quite sure how anyone else is able to do a wedding without Cindy and her group of help. I felt such in good hands with Julia, Cindy, and their whole crew. Not only did they pick up after us but were there lighting candles and helping out in any way possible. Cindy was filled with kind words and advice! The venue is so intimate and beautiful, I would highly recommend it! Thank Cindy and King family for making my night and being so kind to us. God Bless!
I had my wedding reception at the Stanley in June 2016. It was beautiful and the staff was great! The Aspen Room is the perfect place for a reception, we had about 175 guests attend and there was still plenty of room for a dance floor and guests to move around. The only negative things that happened were that I thought the tent would be down so we could take photos on the roof but unfortunately it was not and the napkins were not all the same color. Other than that (and those weren't even big issues) it was AMAZING! It was beautiful and the staff is very easy to work with. I would recommend this venue to everyone! It was exactly what I wanted for my wedding.
The Stanley was more then I could have ever imagined. The day was so perfect! Cindy was very professional and answered all of my never ending questions.
The Stanley staff is second to none. The space is new and beautiful and perfectly complimented by the people running it. Cindy, Caitlin, and Julie made our day go off without a hitch. We had some issues with the wait staff that Julie took care of without hesitation, leaving my husband and me to enjoy the night. This is truly one of the best venues and it comes at a unbeatable price. I would highly recommend it and if we could do the whole day over again we wouldn't change a thing, especially the venue.
The Stanley was far and away the star of our wedding! We were married in the Aspen room (which is over the top gorgeous); had cocktail hour on the roof (which they staffed and decorated with such class); then had our reception back in the Aspen room (and I did not have one. single. worry. ALL NIGHT!) Jennifer was amazing to work with and very accommodating. I knew I could email her with any and every little question, and she would put me at ease. The cherry on top was that the Stanley has such a great relationship with so many local vendors, it feels like your friends are just planning the wedding for you! I don't remember how many times I said "why do people say planning a wedding is stressful? THIS IS SO MUCH FUN!" I know that was due to the Stanley and their professional staff. I plan on using the Stanley for every single event I host in the future, and I would recommend them to every bride in Kansas City! Thank YOU for the most beautiful day ever!
We just had our wedding at the Historic Event Space last weekend for 80 guests. We LOVE The Stanley for many reasons- the actual venue is beautiful and achieved the ambiance we wanted for our wedding. We really didn't have to spend a lot of money on decorations because the venue is naturally so lovely. The staff was very helpful throughout the planning process and on the big day. Caitlin was our go to person and she did a fantastic job with laying out all the details and seeing everything through to the end. She was always very prompt in responding to my emails which eased my anxieties. Our wedding went off without a hitch and a lot of that was thanks to The Stanley staff! Everyone commented on how beautiful the venue is and we greatly appreciated all the behind the scenes work Caitlin and others did to help things run smoothly!
The staff here is fantastic. Very professional, without being pushy and with willingness to work with you. We changed things up a couple of times and they went with the flow. We worked with Cindy and Caitlin and they both helped us thing about all the little details. The main draw for me here was that the Stanley provides a lot! The venue is so beautiful, we hardly needed decorations, they provided all set up and tear down. They flipped the room for us, they provide chairs, linen choices, napkins, center pieces, table numbers, signs. I am so happy with them. They made my wedding look beautiful. And Caitlin did great onsite coordinating. Thank you Stanley!!
I just had the wedding of my dreams at The Stanley-Aspen Room back in November 2015. My husband and I knew we wanted to keep our wedding local and get married in the Lee's Summit area. The Stanley was our first and only choice, because there is nothing else like it, not even close. I always wanted a traditional, timeless, elegant, and beyond beautiful wedding. The Stanley fits all those wants and more. The space is absolutely beautiful and doesn't need any added decor. The venue supplies everything you need and has all the extras you might want. The staff is so helpful and friendly they ease any stress away making you feel confident in your wedding plans. Cindy was such a great help with all her knowledge of the space and how well it functions with large groups of people. Our wedding had about 200 guests and Cindy knew exactly how to set the room up with a catering buffet, DJ, head table and dance floor. She put careful thought into the layout to include all the important aspects of a wedding (grand entrance, cake cutting, etc). Not to mention Cindy also handled all the day-of coordination with my vendors making my job as a bride super easy. I could go on and on about this place, but to keep it short, if you want a gorgeous venue in the cutest downtown area, with friendly and helpful staff to make wedding planning a breeze, book The Stanley-Aspen Room. You will not be disappointed and your guests will rave about your wedding.

They made our wedding run so smoothly, we couldn't even believe it. Even from the beginning, Caitlin, has been so nice and helpful from answering all my questions to the big picture planning.
