I hired a trio from String Variations to perform music for my wedding ceremony. I worked with Gael in choosing music selections and the time line of the ceremony. We had a pretty standard ceremony and they were asked to play a medley of songs from their repertoire as the guests were arriving for the ceremony, Canon in D by Pachelbel for the procession, and then Wedding March for the recessional. The trio arrived to the venue on time, were dressed professionally, and performed the duties they were hired to do. The string music definitely added to the atmosphere of the ceremony.
The reason for the 3 star rating are as followed:
I paid them for a full hour of service, and Gael told me that they would start playing music once guests enter the ceremony venue. According to my mom, she had to get the banquet manager of the venue to tell the String Trio to start playing even after numerous started entering the ceremony space.
The business is not very tech savvy and everything is done through snail mail or telephone calls.
We decided to use String Variations based on good reviews we read online and overall, they did a great job the day of the wedding and were a good value.
However, when I first spoke with Gael on the phone we talked about a specific song that I wanted for my entrance and she said it would not be a problem to get music, as long as it was published (this was in January). That August, the month of our wedding, I checked in to talk about some other song selections. She called back a couple of days later and said she could not find the song I wanted to walk in to. Basically, I had to scramble and find the music on my own. If it was up to them, I would have had to just pick something else.
String Variations were considerably cheaper than other options I had reviewed. They played beautifully traditional wedding music for the ceremony, and mixed it up with more current music during cocktail hour. It was very nice back drop music. Added a very nice ambiance, and was well worth the (very reasonable) price.
They were easy to work with played beautiful music and moved outside when the crowd moved outside.
