Hey y'all, I'm Maria from Sugar & Storm, and it's so great to meet you! I'm the Owner and Cake Designer behind Sugar & Storm, a Charlotte-based cake design studio specializing in custom wedding cakes.
With degrees in both Baking & Pastry Arts and Food Entrepreneurship, I blend professional technique with artistic vision to create wedding cakes that are not only beautiful, but delicious too. From timeless vintage piping and modern rectangle table cakes to abstract designs, each cake is thoughtfully crafted to complement your unique wedding aesthetic.
I believe your wedding cake should be more than dessert. It should be a meaningful part of your celebration. The name Sugar & Storm was inspired by the reality that every relationship experiences both sweetness and challenges along the way. Your wedding day marks the moment you choose each other through it all and begin building a life together. I hope that your cake serves as a beautiful reminder that the sweetest things in life are often created by weathering the storms together.

Hey y'all, I'm Maria! I'm the face behind Sugar & Storm and the one answering your emails, designing your cake, and creating the finished product from start to finish.
I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin, where my love for cake first began while watching Cupcake Wars. That passion never left me, and eventually led me to attend culinary school at Johnson & Wales University. There, I trained in a variety of areas of the pastry world—from croissants and breads (which are so boring) to elegant plated desserts—but I quickly realized cake decorating was way more fun!
When I'm not creating wedding cakes, I also own and operate SWIRL Dessert Bar, South End Charlotte's highest-rated ice cream shop. Through SWIRL, I've been honored to win Charlotte's Best Cupcake and Charlotte's Best Cookie.
Outside of the bakery, I'm completely obsessed with my beagle-dachshund mix, Dunkin, and my cat, Star. I also unapologetically enjoy grandma hobbies like scrapbooking and crafting.
