y that you’re not satisfied with my service. But it seems we have many misunderstandings. Please let me explain chronologically. On August 23rd, 10 days before the wedding day, we had our pre-wedding call in which we confirmed the photo timeline for the day: you have me for 6 hours, starting at 2:30 just 15 minutes before the first look so I can stay later and capture some dancing during the reception. And because there’s only 15 minutes so there’s no getting ready photos planned on the timeline, and 2:30-40 is for detail shots, rings and invitation card stuff, the rest 5 minutes is for transition. And you specifically said you want to do the first look and couple’s photos on the cliff at Bass rock, so that’s the plan I was going for. On August 24th, I had a call with the coordinator from the venue Cruiseport Gloucester, she asked whether you’re doing any photos in the venue. I told her what you told me during our pre-wedding call the day before that you want all the photos (wedding party and family photos) done in the Beauport Hotel on the beach before going to the venue for the ceremony. The coordinator gave me some location suggestions for first look, and I told her that we have already decided to go to bass rock for first look and couple’s photos, and the dock of the venue for sunset photos. So everything is all set. That’s why I didn’t take the opportunity to tour the venue beforehand. And at 10pm, 2 days before the wedding, you emailed me trying to change the timeline with 2 different versions of timelines with different orders and locations asking me which is better. Specifically you wanted to change the first look location from bass rocks to the hotel beach so that family and friends can watch and you’re hesitating between 1. doing the couple’s photos at bass rocks right after the first look at 3pm and 2. doing the couple’s photos at bass rocks during cocktail hour, but you worried you won’t have enough time with guests. I replied as early as I can the next morning suggesting the second version is better which we use some of the cocktail hour to take couple’s photos with the best lighting of the day. And you didn’t respond at all, so coming into the wedding day, I didn’t know which timeline we’re doing. On the wedding day which was a Friday, there were heavy traffic and road accidents that added 1 hour of driving time which I didn’t foresee so I was late and I offered to stay later as well as a makeup photo session of any kind for you. And I did the details shots afterwards so I didn’t miss any photos planned on the timeline. After I got there, I asked you about the timeline thinking we would definitely use some of the cocktail hour to go to the cliff for couple’s photos since we’re cutting short the couple’s portraits after first look, which is better anyway for lighting reasons. But as I suggested going to the cliff during cocktail hour, you shook head and said we’re not going. I felt discouraged but I thought you really wanted to enjoy the whole cocktail hour with guests and I respected that. After we did the first look on the beach, I suggested doing the wedding party and family photos on the beach because it is obviously the best background around the hotel and it’s kind of a selling point of Beauport Hotel, but you refused, repeatedly saying “You’re not happy about this”, you think it’s too bright and asked me to find a shady area, so I ran around the hotel and found a grassy corner in the shade with an ocean background which is still not as good as the beach, but when I got back you already asked all the wedding party and family members to go straight to the venue for photos, changing the plan once again and I had no choice but to follow as some of the people have already left. We did some more couple’s photos on the beach and then I drove you to the venue. After we got to the venue, I immediately ask the coordinator for possible locations for family and wedding party photos, and only to discover there’s only one patio to take photos, and people usually do it there. I showed the patio to you and you agreed to take photos there so we started taking wedding party and family photos. During family photos I noticed you started to be upset, so I stopped taking photos and brought once again that we can go to bass rocks to do the photos, there’s still 50 minutes before the ceremony and it’s only 3 minutes drive away, if we do it quickly, we can totally make it work! But you and your sister rejected and said we should just keep taking photos here. That’s what I felt most frustrating is that it’s like you wanted to accept that this is not gonna turn out the way you wished and you’re also not trying to help me to accomplish it for you. But I thought as long as I make good photos you’ll be happy with them, but there’s no way for me to guess what you really wanted with the always beautiful smile of yours every time when I point camera at you. And as for the list, I of course have the shot-list for family formals on my phone, but your MOH offered to help with the list, and since the MOH is also your sister, I think she must know most of the people on the list, and it’d be more time-efficient, so I let her do it and I was checking shots off my list at the same time. The family formal session was probably the strangest and saddest time throughout my entire 2 years of shooting nearly 100 weddings, you were smiling one second and crying the next and smiling again. I wanted to help to fix it, but you yelled at me with the F word in front of all your family, which was the first time for me and it’s so shocking. But I held my tears and still tried to comfort you and I reassured you that everything is alright, because there wasn’t anything wrong. I gave my advice but respected every choice that you made. Later the night one of your family apologized to me and said you’re a bridezilla, jokingly, of course. After the wedding day I spent days and weeks, hours in photoshop editing every single family and wedding party photo just to make the background look beautiful. Lastly, my philosophy for taking photos on a wedding day is documenting the day as it happens and documenting the love a couple share as they naturally being themselves. And I gave you a lot of directions, but it always ended up with you staring at the camera with the same smile, I can give you directions but I can’t change the way you act. I felt from the beginning you didn’t trust me enough and you were not listening to my suggestions and advice, the lack of trust resulted in the lack of communication from you which led to misunderstandings and harder for me to reach your goals.
