at hiring Susan Hudson as my wedding photographer was the best decision I made. Our wedding would not have been the same without Susan there! We received our wedding photos earlier this week and I could not be happier. Susan is amazing and I cannot say enough great things about her. Susan is not only an incredible photographer; she is also a great person. Honestly, she was been a huge asset to me during the entire wedding planning process. Although I had a wedding planner for the finer details, I turned to Susan constantly for advice and guidance. I trusted and felt comfortable around her. As a result, there were countless times I turned to Susan for her opinion – she was an unbiased third party who I truly learned to value. Unlike the other wedding vendors you will hire, the photographer should be someone you like and trust. I may sound cliché or overly dramatic but you want to feel a “connection” with your photographer. I did not fully appreciate this until we got our first engagement photos back. Initially, we had hired another photographer (highly recommended and great photographers in their own way). During that first session with those photographers it felt awkward for my husband and I. However, I chalked it up to all engagement pictures should feel awkward to an extent because being posed for pictures isn’t exactly normal. But when we got the pictures back all I saw was the awkwardness we felt that day haha. Granted there were some good pictures of us, they just were not anything “special.” I wanted “special.” So unable to feel good about these photographers taking out wedding photos, I found Susan Hudson Photography on The Knot and fell in love with her photography instantly. That night I wrote her a novel email venting and explaining my situation. Looking back I am sure I sounded crazy. Nevertheless, she e-mail me back the next day and we ended up talking on the phone for over an hour about wedding photography. I hired her immediately. Even just talking to her on the phone I felt a sense of calm. Then we planned a quick 1-hour engagement photo session. The pictures were simply amazing – they had that “special” element I was wanting. Part of the reason the pictures were amazing is because Susan (and her husband) have a way of making you feel relaxed and natural. Of course, there is some posing but it never feels/looks forced or awkward. For the day of our wedding, Susan was a true godsend. She was not only there as my photographer, but also as a friend and advisor. This did not go unnoticed by my friends and family. My friends – especially the ones who are married – constantly have commented on how amazing Susan was that day and wish that their photographer had been so hands-on. Most of my review has focused on emotions, so here are other practical reasons for hiring Susan. First, she won’t leave you waiting long to get the pictures. The day after our wedding she posted a preview and two weeks later we had our wedding photos! Second, she provides you with each photo in color and black&white – trust me, you will appreciate having both options!! Third, she charges a very reasonable fee. Fourth, she is extremely responsive and professional. Lastly, she takes beautiful pictures - she knows how to capture the moment perfectly.
