Tama was very responsive during the months leading up to the wedding. Although I had full confidence in my venue choice I slightly regret it now. Upon arrival on Friday (we checked...
in an hour later than our original time so she even had some extra time available) we discovered a few bumps in the road but was very respectful and appreciative of what was done prior to our arrival because she stated her cleaning crew was unable to make it. I was assured that there would be plenty of wood as we wanted to roast meat and have a fire both nights and was unable to do so on the first night due to only having enough wood for the roaster. My husband and a friend had to carry wood across the yard in order to start the roaster as we were prepping our own food. Was also notified her dishwasher wasn’t working so we had to hand wash everything-ok no biggie. Then we discovered the microwave didn’t work-no power to it. The garbage disposal had chunks of metal in it that my grandmother had to fish out with her hands. There was 3 rolls of toilet paper in the whole house which was already down to half way used upon our arrival. The dishes in the cabinets were also dirty with old food stuck onto them so we had to wash everything we used. The stove is not accommodating for someone wanting to cook a large meal because you can only fit one pan in each “temperature area” and the stove top doesn’t even get hot enough to boil water. There’s only 2 burners and 2 oven slots. A dining room chair also broke while someone was sitting in it and it looked to be already repaired with glue/putty once before. Our tables and chairs/reception area wasn’t able to be set up until almost 10am on my wedding day when the wedding was supposed to start at 4:00- this put us in a rush and trying to get everything together before guests arrived. The reason being is the wrong shape tables were set out and the porch needing leaf blowed (we couldn’t do it ourselves due to liability) Overall it wasn’t terrible but very much an inconvenient stay. The wedding ended up working out great even with the inconveniences and we really enjoyed the ceremony area and fire pit.
We had the perfect wedding thanks to Tama and her Sweet Retreat!

le, even when we needed to add an extra night to our reservation a month before the wedding. And on the wedding weekend, she was right there, managing the delivery of our tables and chairs (which she also supplies upon request!), helping our coordinator set up decorations, and even supplying extra decor and tableware (when we were inevitably missing a few things). Through it all, she was cheerful, kind, and incredibly supportive. We can't recommend this venue enough!
If you're looking for the perfect outdoor wedding in West Virginia (I mean, c'mon, look at these shots), you won't find better quality or value than Sweet Retreat!
The place was absolutely wonderful and well as Tama! She was so beyond helpful, kind, and just amazing all around! My husband and I felt so welcomed and loved
We had a Celtic handfasting ceremony as part of our nuptials! The bride wore blue as is the tradition, and we literally "tied the knot"! The venue was PERFECT! The natural setting...
made everything seem special. There was plenty of room for getting ready, parking, seating and the reception. The pig roaster made our BBQ an easy task for the cook, and everyone enjoyed the firepit during and after the reception. The owner was extremely helpful and always knew exactly how to handle any worries! The price was very reasonable for such a gorgeous forest setting. Some of the food was catered locally and some cooked on site in the spacious kitchen. We can't say enough good things! I would definitely recommend this vendor! A variety of supplies was available for last minute emergencies, and I loved the "reveal doors" at the back of the venue. I only received a few pics from friends to post here, but I can't wait until the photographer finishes editing the pro pics!
Tama was incredibly helpful and her space is gorgeous. There was nothing we needed she couldn’t provide. She always has a smile and made us feel very comfortable in her home. We wi...
ll definitely be recommending the venue and will be returning. The space was incredibly clean. The kitchen was large enough to host all of our guests and the warming oven was a lifesaver. There are even two refrigerators to store any food which was also amazing.
