Sweet Tartlette is the sweet dream of Sarah Steele, our owner and head pastry chef. Sarah started in the culinary industry in college and began taking cake decorating classes after attending Michigan State University; after a whirlwind tour of the kitchens and pastry cases of some of Chicago’s finest restaurants and bakeries, she is excited to introduce downtown Traverse City to her love for all things sweet.

DELICIOUS Cakes and cupcakes!! We did a small cake for us and cupcakes for our guests and we got sooo many comments on how yummy they were. Sarah was very friendly and helpful! Would 100% use again.
We cannot say enough good things about our wedding cake from Sweet Tartlette! It was beyond perfect—easily the best wedding cake we've ever had (and our guests agreed!). The flavors were out of this world. The cherry chip and pistachio in particular were absolutely incredible—unique, delicious, and unforgettable.
The cake not only tasted amazing but was stunningly beautiful. Every detail was crafted with care, and it was clear how much passion Sweet Tartlette puts into their work.
We’re officially lifelong fans and will absolutely be ordering cakes from them for every special occasion in the future. If you want a wedding cake that everyone will be raving about, Sweet Tartlette is the way to go!
We used Sweet Tartlette for our wedding favors. They were amazing!! Sarah was wonderful to work with and the whole process was easy. I am allergic to dairy and gluten. Sarah's vegan options were so yummy. Our truffles not only tasted delicious, but they looked beautiful too. My mother in law was collecting the truffles that were left behind. We are so delighted that we chose Sarah to take care of us on our special day.
Where to even begin?! Everything with Sarah, from start to finish, was so much fun, so incredibly easy and so lovely. My mom and I had the pleasure of doing a cake tasting in advance, and Sarah pulled together the cutest sample kit for us to taste from while her shop was under construction. She even went out of her way to meet with us at a coffee shop and worked around my bizarre work schedule. Her flavors were unbelievably delicious, and she was so clear and helpful in figuring out exactly how much cake we needed for all of our guests. When it came time to pick the design, we knew we could trust her with anything we envisioned. When we walked in and saw the cake after our ceremony on the dessert table, we could not believe how beautiful it was. We asked for simple, modern-rustic elegance, and she nailed it. She was able to whip up two delicious flavors that got rave reviews all evening - confetti cake with vanilla custard and vanilla buttercream, and champagne cake with strawberry preserves and champagne buttercream. Her champagne cake actually tastes like champagne - one of the best I've ever had! The only sad part was when it had to be cut down to serve! I've since popped into her shop and brought home a few extra treats just for fun (you have to try the macarons and the carrot cake!!), and will constantly be looking for reasons to order a custom cake from her in the future. If I could give ten stars, I would!
We had such a wonderful experience with Sweet Tartlette! My now-husband is a Pastry Chef, so his standards were very high and from our initial tasting to our wedding day, Sarah was phenomenal! She is incredibly responsive, creative, professional and fun; she took direction well while also contributing ideas to make our day unique. We had both a small wedding cake as well as a desserts table that looked as amazing as it tasted! Would definitely recommend Sweet Tartlette for your pastry needs!
Sweet Tartlette made our wedding cake for our June 2024 intimate wedding - just the two of us and our moms. I requested a heart-shaped vintage style cake, with cursive writing on it and I got just that. Sarah was easy to work with and responsive the entire time. The cake was beautiful and delicious and we enjoyed cutting it together!

Sara did an amazing job on our wedding cake. Not only did she recreate my vision almost identical to what I shared, but her flavors were amazing. We had so many compliments from our guests. People said "I don't even like cake, but this one was incredible." Very moist, great flavor, and the presentation was so beautiful. VERY happy that I went with Sweet Tartlette and I would highly recommend.
The Sweet Tartlette prepared the desserts for our daughter’s wedding. Sarah and her staff were so helpful and the desserts were amazing. Sarah delivered the desserts to our venue and arranged our dessert table beautifully.

Sweet Tartlette was great - the cake was a hit! It was beautiful and simple - just what we wanted. My groom and I went to TC for the day and did a taste testing with them and there we selected our decorations. Because we got married on a Sunday, we had to pay extra for the cake to be delivered to our venue - we knew it would be in the best hand with their staff so opted for that (although we could've had someone pick it up in TC and drive it to our venue.)
Due to the pandemic, we had to reschedule our wedding multiple times. Throughout every step, Sarah stuck with us and adapted to our needs during a difficult and stressful time.
We ordered a small wedding cake and a large collection of custom cupcakes for our event, and they were amazing. Our guests could not stop praising them, which each creation even sweeter than the last. More than one person was found to be going for seconds, or thirds!
Cake was gorgeous and delicious! They were willing to work with us for our dream cake. Plus it tasted even better than it looked!
Sarah was a joy to work with! She did a fabulous job with our wedding cake, cookies, and cupcakes! She took our vision and created the most beautiful cake! Our guests loved the all of the desserts she created for our dessert table. We can’t recommend her enough!
Our wedding had many fan favorites, including the view (at the Peninsula Room), the beer (from North Peak), and of course the beautiful bride (this review written by the groom). Even with those fan favorites, we think the number one commented on item was the cupcakes from Sweet Tartlette. We got a variety of cupcakes to avoid our venue's plating fee and boy did we make the right choice. We had 75 guests and ordered around 110 cupcakes along with a two-tier cake for the bride and groom. We were of course worried that we had overbought, but at the end of the night we had nothing left. Nothing went in the garbage and a few guests took home extra cupcakes. The simple summary is best said by one of the bride's good friends: "I planned on being healthy, but now I'm on my fifth cupcake."
We ordered our wedding cake from Sweet Tartelette. Our cake tasted great! They had a lot of good options to pick from. We would recommend Sweet Tartelette to anyone for their event.
Our wedding cake was to die for and our additional desserts were a huge hit. I had wedding guests who are gluten free still enjoy the cake because it was "too delicious to not have a piece." I have been eating leftover cake all week (our wedding was six days ago) and it is still just as delicious. Thank you, Sarah!!
Beautiful and delicious cake. They were great to work with and made the experience fun and stress-free. They coordinated with our florist and also delivered the cake to our venue which was a huge plus.
We had a wonderful experience working with Sarah and her team. They were punctual, responsive and very helpful. The presentation was beautiful and desserts were amazing.
We absolutely loved our wedding cake made by the talented Sarah Steele – the owner and head pastry chef at Sweet Tartlette! Our first cake tasting with Sarah was so much fun! We tried three different types of cakes, fillings and frostings. It was a hard decision, but we ended up getting a 3-tired lemon chiffon cake with vanilla custard and chopped strawberries for the filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. The cake design was just like the inspiration photos we sent her with the white fondant, white royal icing dots, gold leaf and placement of real flowers on our cake. The cake was delicious and all our guests thought so as well! Our overall experience and communication with Sarah was great and her pricing is also very reasonable! I would highly recommend hiring Sweet Tartlette if you are still looking for a wedding cake baker!
We absolutely loved our wedding cake. Sarah was so awesome to work with and created exactly what we wanted. We chose a white almond sour cream cake with lemon curd + raspberry compote swirl filling and it blew all of our guests away. We also had a selection of macarons that everyone enjoyed. Highly recommend!!
Absolutely thrilled with our cake and tartlettes that Sarah from Sweet Tartlette created for our September 18 wedding. We had the vanilla almond cake with lemon curd filling and Italian butter cream frosting, and a brown butter cake with salted caramel filling. We also served tiny key lime tarts and chocolate Raspberry tarts and they were a huge hit. Our tasting was awesome too! Very fun. Highly recommend this cute bakery in Northern Michigan!
Very disappointed! We loved the cake tasting and working with Sarah initially. However, on our wedding day - our cake arrived an hour late!!!! After I had to call and ask where she was - she responded with “I was responding to emails”. No apology. Our cake was insanely cold and hard like it just came out of the freezer and it was so dry. On the bright side - the frosting was good! I would chose another bakery if I had to do it again.
I believe Sweet Tartlette is fairly new, and honestly, cupcakes were the last thing on my mind while planning a wedding on a budget in the middle of a pandemic. I am SO glad we decided to get them, they were delicious, cute and reasonable. They looked amazing on my dessert display. Thank you so much for working with us last minute, we really appreciate the beautiful work you put into this!
My husband and I are so happy we worked with Sarah to make our wedding cake this past spring. She took the time to discuss ideas and options when we were sampling at her shop last year. The cake we served at our small backyard ceremony could not have tasted better and our family loved it too! We highly recommend Sweet Tartlette!
Sarah is an amazing baker! We absolutely loved our wedding cake and fall themed sugar cookies. The devils food and brown butter cake with buttercream frosting was to die for. We had people sneaking both flavors because they couldn’t get enough! We can’t wait to return to her bakery on our anniversary to get more goodies to remember our day (no left overs!) would definitely recommend!
omg, I can't get over how adorable my husband's groom's cake turned out. Sarah went above and beyond and it tasted amazing too!! the wedding cake was beautiful, our toppers looked awesome on top, and the flavor was delicious (even if our only bites were during our cake cutting). my biggest regret of the day was not being able to have a full slice of each cake. Our guests loved the flavors and the beauty of each cake! highly recommend working with Sarah to come up with the cakes of your dreams :)

Our wedding cake tasted delicious! I had several people come up and comment how good it was. The mini brownies, vanilla macaroons, and fruit tarts also went flying off the plates! My guests enjoyed everything! I was also very impressed with the gold brushing the was done on the bottom layer; it looked very natural and artistic. My only regret is that I wish I would have ordered a larger cake and more desserts! Everyone tells you that no one really eats dessert at a wedding because they are too busy drinking, but the desserts were so good that they were ALL gone. SO I'd order just a little more than you think you need because there's nothing wrong with leftovers :)
Sarah is such an amazing artist. Her bakery had some of the best tasting cake we've ever had. Working with them was so easy and they always responded quickly. We were not present when our cake was dropped off and both of us were astounded when we walked in and saw the cake. It was one of our favorite things at our reception. Not only did it look gorgeous but it tasted AMAZING, we even had leftover cake for breakfast the morning after our wedding.
Our cake was pretty but very dry; we didn't bother saving the top tier for our anniversary. On the other hand, the macarons were great, although one of the flavors was wrong (we think they gave us blueberry instead of lavender honey).

Yum! We loved our mini cupcakes from Sweet Tartelette! They were delicious and the perfect treat for our wedding guests. Sarah was so wonderful to work with and accommodated several last minutes edits to our order. We highly recommend them for a tasty and affordable dessert.

Sarah at Sweet Tartlette did a fantastic job with our wedding cake! I was looking for a unique cake, a French croquembouche, that pretty much every other bakery in Traverse City and other areas turned down. We were able to go in for a tasting and Sarah was always great at communicating with us. Our cake turned out great and we had compliments all night how good it tasted! I am grateful that we found Sweet Tartlette to make our cake!
