We were looking for a vegan wedding cake, which led us to this local bakery. We wanted to support them because they're family-owned and offer good-tasting vegan options. Unfortunately, the final result was a mixed bag.
During the planning process, SweetArt gave us a "tasting box" that let us sample several flavors of cake and icing. They were all very good, and we chose an almond cake with almond amaretto buttercream frosting.
They also asked us to specify a design for our cake. We were interested in a night sky / outer space / UFO theme, and shared photos of the type of design we were looking for.
We talked to a SweetArt employee about the design and the contract. While this employee was kind and pleasant, it seemed they could use more training on customer service. They took the planning phone call in the middle of the loud and crowded bakery until we said we couldn't hear well. Then when we got the contract, it included a $125 design fee that the employee hadn't mentioned on our phone call. When my husband called to ask about this, the employee said something about how cakes include this fee, but didn't take accountability for not making this clear in advance.
There was also a $25 fee for a "cake pedestal," which turned out to be a platter (like the kind you see in a bakery case). The options they showed us were pretty basic and one was chipped--seemed like a rip-off to charge customers for that.
As for the cake itself, they sent along a sketch that looked pretty good based on our themes we wanted to include. The cake itself wasn't as beautiful as we were hoping. The navy icing was uneven in color and turned our guests' teeth, lips, and tongues blue! To be fair, we could've guessed that would happen...But it didn't occur to us. It would've been nice if someone from SweetArt had mentioned that risk in advance.
The cake tasted good and our guests said they enjoyed it. But all of the above took away some of the pleasure from the dessert.
The total cost was about $400 for a two-tier cake (feeding 30 people), the cake stand rental, and delivery. The bakery did a fine job communicating about delivery times and getting the cake set up in advance.
SweetArt would be a good place to get a fun and fancy birthday cake, but I would not advise other couples to trust them with your wedding cake if you want an awesome product and experience.
Sweet Art made our wedding cake (vanilla with raspberry frosting, all gluten free). They’re fantastic to work with. Reine worked with us on multiple food allergies and made the cake look beautiful. I’ve never heard so many guest compliments on a cake! Everyone loved how it tasted. I highly recommend them, especially if you have a gluten allergy and want a cake for an important occasion.
AMAZING! We looooove Sweet Art. We live in Shaw and are vegan, we have been patrons of Sweet Art since we were in college (so like the last decade). It was important to us that they were the ones to do our wedding cake/cupcakes... and they NAILED it! Our main cake was a red velvet vegan cake.. then we had mini cupcakes of like 6 assorted flavors. They tasted insanely delicious and they were beautiful. Sweet Art is incredible and I recommend them to anyone.
We hired SweetArt to make a gluten free chocolate cake for our wedding, and they nailed it. Their gluten free cakes are amazing--they have the texture of a traditional wheat flour cake and could fool just about anyone. Delicious. We only gave them 4 of 5 stars, because we had a few communication issues with the bakery. In the end everything worked out, but it did cause for some unnecessary stress.
We ordered a variety of treats for our guests, in addition to a small wedding cake for our wedding party. I can’t say enough great things about SweetArt. My husband and I love eating there and knew as soon as we got engaged, they would be doing our desserts! Our dessert bar was a huge hit. It was beautiful and delicious! Our guests definitely utilized the to-go boxes we offered because there was nothing left at the end of the night! Also, the bakers were able to create a small cake that looked just how I envisioned. THANK YOU, SweetArt!
We absolutely love this place! We had selected four types of cupcakes, the vegan brownies and peach cobbler bars which were all so amazing and delicious. There were some management changes at the time so a few of our emails/requests got lost, but overall an amazing bakery.
SweetArt provided the cake and cupcakes for my daughter’s wedding. They were the most moist, light and decadent vegan cupcakes I’ve ever tasted!
SweetArt was amazing to work with! I have celiac disease so they not only made the cake gluten free but they also tweaked the traditional red velvet recipe to be purple velvet - our wedding color. I had the consultation, paid the deposit, they showed up on time, and set up a beautiful display of the cake and cupcakes. Everyone loved the cupcakes and I ate the gluten free cake everyday for the next week (And I'm not complaining after dieting for a year!) The only reason I'm not giving them a full five stars is because it was hard to get in contact with them and communication were a little delayed. They are a small but mighty team and have a lot going on other than wedding cakes. But overall I highly recommend SweetArt especially for the gluten free and vegan brides and grooms out there!
Our cake was beautiful, delicious, and totally unique. Jermasa, the baker, put together a four-tier cake for us with two tiers vanilla cake with salted caramel frosting and two layers "Tallulah", strawberry cake with strawberry frosting (one of my personal favorites). The cake was a big hit, and though we got more than we needed, it was almost completely finished by the end of the wedding. On top of that, Jermasa is so much fun to work with and is incredibly helpful and flexible. Oh! And Beyonce ordered cupcakes from there once! Now THAT'S a good review.
Dream come true! We were living up the street from SweetArt the year we got married, and loved walking over to sample their various cupcake flavors on a weekly basis (highly recommended because (1) its fun and (2) there's no formal tasting and (3) they have an awesome variety!). We loved the cake and cupcakes that SweetArt provided for our wedding. They also delivered and set-up for a very small fee. It was a joy to coordinate with Reine during the planning process, and I recommend them highly!
Sweet Art made exactly what we asked for. the cupcakes were delicious: sweet cream icing on two flavors of cake- red velvet and white almond. we also using the same cake bakery for cupcakes for one of the bridal showers and had the champagne flavor cakes as well. they were all so delicious! the only thing that I would have changed would be to have the cake topper we picked actually blended jerk the top of the cake with icing. instead it was simply placed on top of the fondant that we did not ask for.
SweetArt made a wedding cake for us that guests are STILL talking about. Seriously one of the best cakes we have ever had! We did get a tester cake from them and were sold on them right away. In my mind, cake is just a vehicle for frosting (frosting is the best part!) and their cake doesn't even need frosting, which is my highest cake compliment! Communication with them is best by phone versus email; they can be a bit hard to get ahold of but I'd recommend them without any hesitation. They know what they are doing and they bake amazing cakes! Beautiful, too!
They pulled through and made a great cake and cupcakes! But they are very hard to get a hold of and everytime I had an appointment, the person I was meeting with was either late or never showed up.
I went to a few, some rated as the best bakery's around, to get my cake for our wedding. Unfortunately they all looked at me like I was crazy because I wanted something natural, non-tier, and with out fondant. I wanted three separate, three layered carrot cakes with a cream cheese icing. Being rejected from these "best" bakers, I was determined to find THE best authentic baker in St. Louis! Well...I did!!! SweetArt created the best carrot cakes EVER! I got my three, all natural ingredients, three-layered carrot cake with cream cheese icing and it was BEYOND DELICIOUS!!! The only disappointment I had was that we had enough cake for 180 people to serve our 120 head count, in addition to a full ice-cream float/sundae station AND we still did not have one single slice left. Obviously everyone LOVED the cake! It was AMAZING and completely devoured by all of my guest!
We had them make cupcakes for our reception. We had five different types and our guest loved them all! They were VERY reasonable and fun to work with. I highly recommend SweetArt.
