Our wedding at The 1774 Inn earlier this year was everything we could have dreamed of and more. The Inn is nestled along the coast of Maine, making it an idyllic backdrop to get married. We loved how intimate and private it felt, only sharing the weekend with our closest friends and family.
Everything was exceptional, from Marianne's initial tour to Lana's warm wedding welcome and Stuart and Sarah's day of assistance. They all went above and beyond to make our wedding perfect. Although a light rain passed through during our ceremony, our incredible day-of coordinator (Katie at Dragonfly Services) ensured that everything went off flawlessly.
The venue was full of historic charm, with every room thoughtfully designed to preserve its character. We loved celebrating all weekend (Thursday-Sunday) with our loved ones. Nearby Airbnbs on Parker Head Road made it even easier to have friends and family stay close by.
We are eager to return to The 1774 Inn as it holds such a special place in our hearts. We are forever grateful we found this beautiful venue to celebrate our wedding!
We got married at the 1774 Inn a few weeks ago, and it was the most wonderful weekend. We were very grateful to spend multiple days at the Inn with our family and friends leading up to the wedding and then welcome everyone else on the day of the wedding. The set up of the venue worked perfectly for our wedding - ceremony out on the lawn, cocktail hour on the pebble patio, dinner under a tent and dancing in the barn. Marianne was the highlight of the planning process, and Sarah was very welcoming and helpful throughout the weekend. All of the vendors we worked with expressed excitement to have a reason to come to the 1774 Inn. We're trying to find an excuse to go back because we had such a great time!
I would highly recommend this wedding venue - you will not regret it!
I could not have imagined a more perfect wedding. I found this venue because I knew I wanted to get married in Phippsburg, a town that has provided me with the greatest memories of summer. Marianne put me in contact with Lana, who ended up being our coordinator. She is a kind soul who truly cares about getting to know her clients, and she consistently checked in to make sure that we were happy and had everything ready. There were many signs that this venue was meant to be: from the bird life to Comet (German shorthaired pointer) to Sarah being from Texas. We ended up hogging Comet for our stay. Amongst the stress that comes with planning a wedding in five months, all of my anxiety dissipated when I was on this property. It was hard to leave. Lana reassured us that we could return to stay during weeknights or in the off-season, which made saying "goodbye" a bit easier. However, I left my wedding weekend feeling like I had another family at the 1774 Inn: Lana, Sarah, Marianne, and Comet. In addition, with my husband originally from Wisconsin, this venue was a perfect way to celebrate because the whole family could stay on the property for our wedding weekend. His aunts and uncles rented the AirBnB across the street as well. This was the perfect wedding weekend, filled with love and togetherness. Thank you, 1774 Inn.
The 1774 in was the perfect setting for a beautiful and joyful wedding for our daughter earlier this month. My daughter and her fiancé wanted a micro wedding with only immediate family and this venue was absolutely amazing. Maryanne made sure both the planning and execution for the three days we spent at the Inn were seamless; she made us feel right at home to an extent I would not have even imagined. The charming and comfortable rooms accommodated all of us beautifully; the hospitality and warmth displayed throughout our stay harmonized with the stunning beauty of the setting. Maryanne also served as the officiant for the wedding ceremony. She did a superb job! I would rate it at an 11 out of 10 and we couldn’t have been happier She masterfully incorporated what she had learned from her preparation time with a couple into the ceremony. We were delighted with everything about the 1774 Inn and we are interested in additional opportunities to return .
We chose the 1774 Inn in large part because of our experience on our first visit. We got to meet Marianne, our eventual wedding coordinator, and one of the owners, Stuart. The first thing that we noticed about the Inn is the obvious, the setting is beautiful, and the vibe is wonderfully calming. We came to realize so much more about the Inn during the following two years we spent planning our wedding. The owners are incredibly kind and down to earth. Throughout our entire experience Sarah and Stuart (the owners) kept working on the Inn, creating the Hayloft suite and retouching many of the rooms at the Inn with their unique sense of style and quality. Our experience in planning the wedding and working with the Inn could not have been better. Marianne and the owners have extensive experience with vendors in the area and were an instrumental resource for us as we chose our perfect vendor team. The 1774 Inn was our first decision in planning our wedding and we could not have chosen a more wonderful group of people to work with. That became very evident on our wedding day. It was perfect. We got to experience Kindness Day in Bath, fireworks on the beach at Popham that happily coincided with our rehearsal dinner, Sarah’s delicious breakfast on the morning of our wedding, and a wonderful familial atmosphere at the Inn in the days leading up to our wedding. A wedding at the 1774 Inn has all the wonderful photographic and experiential benefits of a destination wedding as well as the feel of a backyard wedding with family you haven’t seen for a long time and can’t wait to catch up with. We loved every second of our stay and highly recommend making use of the outdoor firepit, Popham beach and the surrounding Bath area, as well as the ability to spend the morning after the wedding at the 1774 Inn. We were initially planning on leaving our wedding on our wedding night but were convinced to stay the night at the Inn and have breakfast with our wedding party and family members on Sunday morning. It was the perfect decision for us and is a wonderfully insightful benefit of the 1774 Inn. We truly cannot say a single bad thing about the Inn, and the people that work there. As a result of some unforeseen circumstances, we had to adjust the schedule of our wedding day slightly and make some other changes. Everyone at the Inn was super helpful, supportive, flexible, and put us at ease throughout the day. Everybody always says their wedding day was the best day ever. Ours truly was, and the people who made it possible at the 1774 Inn are people we will not only be forever grateful too, but they are also people we will think of from now on as close friends. You will not find this combination of scenic beauty, wonderful people, and historic awe anywhere else. We could not be happier with everything about our wedding experience with the 1774 Inn.

Our wedding at the 1774 Inn was a dream! Every aspect of the day was gorgeous, from the stunning waterfront view during our outdoor ceremony, to the beautiful driftwood arbor under which we said our vows, to the charming hay barn where we had our reception, and even down to the lovely handmade farm tables they provided for our dinner. Marianne, Stuart, and Sarah were great to work with - they were warm, friendly, and there to guide us throughout the wedding planning process. Our entire wedding party was able to stay at the inn during our wedding weekend, and it was so nice to be surrounded by our family and friends during that time. We are so happy and grateful to have had our wedding at the 1774 Inn, and we couldn't have asked for a better venue or a better team to work with!
This was the most amazing venue we could have had for our 75 person wedding! Marianne and Stuart/Sarah were so pleasant and incredibly helpful throughout the planning process. They were always easy to reach and provided advice and alternatives whenever necessary. We were fortunate enough to get perfect weather for the entire weekend and the grounds were stunning. Highly recommend this venue!
We cannot have been more thrilled about our wedding at the 1774 Inn! The entire team, Sarah, Stuart, and Marianne were there with us for our entire journey, and helped make our vision a reality. We were originally struck by their kindness and warmth, and this feeling stayed with us throughout our wedding planning process. Our wedding weekend at 1774 Inn was magical. Having the manor house to ourselves with our closest family members, eating local yogurt with fresh Maine blueberries for breakfast alongside homemade granola, sitting out on the lawn drinking beer overlooking the water, and having smores by the fire the night before we left were all part of the 1774 Inn experience. The wedding itself was absolutely beautiful, and even our pickiest friends and family members asked "How did you find this place?". Sarah, Stuart, and Marianne worked with us every step of the way to make sure that we could have an outdoor dance floor, we could have a firepit, and we could use an arch made by my grandfather. I cannot recommend the 1774 Inn highly enough for an absolutely perfect Maine wedding.
Our wedding at the 1774 in was absolutely perfect. The setting is STUNNING and the rooms within the inn are gorgeous. Since our loved ones are spread around the country, it was special to have our closest people together for the entirety of our wedding weekend. I'd recommend that couples plan to extend their stay on either side to really enjoy all the inn has to offer. We all were able to relax throughout the weekend which was incredible. Sarah, Stuart, and Marianne are lovely hosts. Their recommendations of vendors helped make our wedding the small business, local, Maine vibes event we were going for. There were some unforeseen glitches that came up (e.g. tropical storm) but all were attended to immediately and with thought and care. We plan to return for a future vacation. I'd recommend the 1774 to all couples looking for a unique, beautiful, down to earth wedding.
The 1774 Inn is a magical place. We were a COVID couple postponed from September 2020 to this past June. The Inn itself, the grounds, the barn and the owners and staff who meticulously care for it are all superb. YOU HAVE TO GO SEE THIS PLACE!
We utilized the Inn as as more of a VRBO rental for the weekend and it was perfect. Having our families and bridal party under one roof was so much fun and made for less stress. We all got to spend so much more time together than we would have otherwise! And it was actually relaxing!! (imagine that, a bride relaxed on her wedding day!)
We utilized the Inn's ceremony location, the barn and tent area for our 75 person wedding. You cannot beat the view of this place, it is really unbelievable. I don't think there is another venue that you get coastal AND rustic vibes (plus a barn!) all in one spot. The rentals offered by then Inn were so cool and well done. We used a lot of them as they incorporated wood from the refresh of the barn which we thought was so unique. The barn has beautiful new bathrooms as well so no need to rent those!
Our whole experience with the Inn was fantastic especially with the owners, Sarah and Stuart, and their coordinator Marianne. They are such lovely and genuine people. You will want be forever friends with them!
There is something very very special about this venue and the people who meticulously care for it.
Recently under new ownership, each room has been updated to reflect historic decor, modern amenities and impeccable taste. Don’t be fooled by the outdated pictures on google, book a tour and see it for yourself.
The 1774 is an utterly magical place to get married: rolling lawns, waterfront views, historic architecture, updated reception barn, private dock, it just has it ALL. The inn sleeps 16+ so there is space for the entire wedding party to stay on site and you have privacy of the entire property to yourself. Also for the dog lovers: your dog is not only allowed to attend your wedding (off leash) but s/he can stay in the Inn as well: there is one guest room that allows dogs.
Every morning you will be served the most incredible breakfast you have ever had. Owned and operated by a husband/wife team, one is a sommelier and the other is a French trained chef. That breakfast is insane.
AND on top of that, it’s a fully operating Inn. Which means my husband and I know exactly where to celebrate our anniversary each year.
Brides: If a date is open at the 1774, BOOK IT because it won’t be available for long.
The 1774 Inn is pure magic. If you are looking for a place where you can bring your wedding vision to life, along the Maine Coast, this is it! There is the historical and perfectly appointed Inn itself (incredible breakfasts await), a ceremony spot with a stunning outlook over the Kennebec River, sweeping grounds and the charming barn for dancing. For guests, there are plenty of fun adventures in the area. Sarah and Stuart are warm-hearted and always there to help you and your guests feel at home. The wedding of our dreams became a reality here. You will always be able to return to relive the special day of your life and create new memories!
If you're looking for a picturesque waterfront venue for your weekend wedding celebration, the 1774 Inn is the perfect spot! My husband and I had our wedding at the inn this July and the whole weekend was a dream come true. There are so many wonderful things about this venue but I think the best part is having the whole inn for you and your family/wedding party for the entire weekend. 16 people can stay in 8 rooms Friday – Sunday so we really felt comfortable and relaxed for the best weekend of our lives!
Jackie is wonderful to work with… she made the whole planning process a breeze and was very prompt answering any and all questions we had by email and phone. Another great thing about this venue is there is so much flexibility to create the wedding you’ve been dreaming of…. Jackie told me every wedding she’s had there has been different and I can see why. You bring your ideas and personal touch to the venue and make it the day and the weekend you’ve been dreaming of. I loved having so much flexibility and watching my visions turn into reality.
I could really go on and on about the wonderful features of this venue but in the meantime you should just call Jackie and see the inn for yourself! It truly is a special place and the perfect spot for a wedding in Maine!
***AND as far as the bottom line goes this venue is an incredible value … you have a gorgeous waterfront site from Friday – Sunday, a two night stay for you, your partner and 14 guests in a charming and very beautiful inn, and a yummy breakfast Saturday & Sunday morning for much less than many other waterfront venues charge for a 5 hour rental. More importantly you’ll have the most wonderful, relaxed and beautiful venue for your weekend wedding you’ll never forget!
John and Jackie were great to work with!! Along with communication with Jackie, I also spoke with her assistant Ashley who kept me in the loop. Ashley also served as a day-of coordinator for our wedding day. She helped serve the breakfast in the morning (which were DELICIOUS!) as well as all the running around, greeting vendors, etc all so I didn't have to worry about a thing! The Inn and the view were both breathtaking. The 1774 Inn was the first and only venue we checked out and I couldn't stop thinking of it. I just couldn't stop smiling. There is so much character and something about the house as well as John and Jackie just makes you feel so calm and at ease. We had our ceremony and reception both at the Inn and it was a perfect day. Jackie took care of the tent, chair, and dance floor rentals. This helped us immensely! Jackie is an amazing cook! There was fresh fruit, banana bread, juices, bagels, yogurt and granola laid out each morning. She made a phenomenal blueberry cream cheese french toast casserole topped with a blueberry sauce and I wish I could have eaten the entire batch! We had everyone in our bridal party raving about the breakfast and the Inn atmosphere. We also had a ton of wedding guests rave about the view and how gorgeous the grounds and location was! We definitely recommend the 1774 Inn to anyone looking for a wedding venue or just a cute little Bed and Breakfast in the Phippsburg area. You will not be disappointed!
My husband and I had an incredible wedding at the 1774 Inn. John, Jackie, and their entire team went above and beyond to welcome us and our guests; the Inn really felt like a second home during the wedding weekend.
John and Jackie were easy to work with and always quick to answer our questions. We met with many vendors before deciding on a location and chose the 1774 because of how kind Jackie was during our initial tour. When rain was predicted for our wedding day, John helped us secure a tent a week before the wedding so we could rearrange our reception. We hosted our ceremony and cocktail hour in the barn over looking the water and it was a beautiful.
The 1774 Inn is extremely clean and a comfortable place to stay. Breakfast in the morning is delicious. Our wedding party couldn't stop raving how great the food at the Inn was!
Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway or a place to get married, book the 1774 Inn. You will not be disappointed!
