The 1850 Settlement is a beautiful place for a wedding but we don’t recommend it at this time due to the management. We dealt with the property manager exclusively during the months of preparation. We never saw her the weekend of the wedding,... even when she said she was going to be there (email). We had an appointment at venue 2 days prior to wedding to practice hanging decorations. The appointment was made verbally and confirmed via email and text and detailed who was to be there, what equipment, and that there was no other conflict at venue at that time. We got to venue and a rehearsal dinner was going on and no staff person was present. The bride’s mother of the other wedding came over and we explained our situation. She was gracious and said they would be finishing soon and then we could come in then. A staff person showed up about 15 minutes later, didn’t know who we were and said we couldn’t be there. When I showed her the correspondence dealing with our appointment, she begrudgingly worked with us. When we got to the venue the morning of the wedding on time, cleaning staff was just finishing cleaning but the tables and chairs had not been set up so our decorating got delayed. No property manager. The staff person did not identify herself until about 30 minutes before wedding. Despite repeated requests to talk to the owner or the property manager, as of to date, we have not received a phone call from either one. The property manager did contact the wedding coordinator after the wedding to make amends with her and the emails contained untruths and deflection of blame (the wedding coordinator copied us into the conversation). When we responded to the emails with documentation (copied previous emails and texts), we still didn’t receive any phone call from the property manager or owner. We had a beautiful wedding and we are very thankful. We just feel this isn’t the way to treat people or a way to do business and felt like we should give future families another perspective to consider. To 1850 Settlement’s credit, they did give back the deposit in a timely manner.
