About this vendor
Oh, the Apple Barn. The lingering scent of hay and raw wood and the memory of many thousands of happy feet dancing make this a very special place. We treat the Apple Barn a bit differently as a meeting space, as it is also a venue for dances, weddings, and other events. Originally a dairy barn (and not, as the name suggests, an apple storage!), the Apple Barn is fire-rated for 271 participants, with seating capacity for about 120 at tables. It is equipped with round and rectangular tables and chairs, A/V and sound equipment, restrooms, and hospitality kitchen.

I used the Apple Barn for my reception. If you're looking for a rustic (although can be made elegant) setting deep in the NC mountains, this was a winner. Easy to work with, with many vendors familiar with using it, it was a setting to remember. Comes with security guard who directs parking for all of your guests. Some limitations (no open flames, no nails in wall), but overall highly recommended.
It is my history and my heritage...it is so gorgeous and breathtaking! It is the perfect mountain setting. It is also a part of The Church of the Holy Cross, where I was Christened a couple weeks after I was born. The Church has always been a part of my life and will continue to be so having the reception at The Apple Barn was a must! It is an embodiment of true mountain beauty, culture, art and all that is close to me! 'The Apple Barn then . . . . . . and now. The Apple Barn is almost synonymous with the Valle Crucis Conference Center. Its distinctive red siding can be seen all the way across this sacred valley. It was built in 1911 as the first dairy barn (that's right, DAIRY, not apple!) with a concrete floor. It also housed the cheese factory which had a storage vault with cork ceilings and six inch thick walls so the temperature would remain constant year round. The Apple Barn, as it is called now, serves different purposes today: meeting space for groups; wedding reception space for local families; and, of course, barn dances for the community. The Apple Barn has never had insulation or a heating system, making it only available when the weather is reasonably warm. And because of its age, it needs some general maintenance. Our planning for the future includes these renovations so it can be used year-round. We have consulted initially with restoration architect John Horton from the N.C. Department of Archives and History. He assured us that we can accomplish these r;As stated above...there is no AC so be weary as to the date you use this venue. We had appatizers in the barn & drinks on the large deck but did dinner outside under a tent on the grounds and it was fabulous with the cool mtn breeze...as it got later we moved inside again for dancing....just perfect!!!
