Located in Highlands, NC, The Bascom is a stunning wedding venue and visual arts center framed by a breathtaking backdrop of soaring mountain vistas. This dynamic space invites guests to immerse themselves in a unique blend of vintage charm and contemporary design. The Bascom's six-acre campus, once the historic Crane Horse Farm, now hosts a 27,500 square-foot space that seamlessly marries the rustic allure of a wooden barn with the sleek elegance of modern architecture.
With seating for up to 200 guests and the option for additional tenting, The Bascom offers a timeless setting for couples seeking to exchange vows amidst the splendor of the North Carolina mountains. Completed in 2009, The Bascom's main building showcases the rich tapestry of history, with the Ester barn – initially erected in 1838 – as the cornerstone of its design. The barn has been lovingly restored and reimagined, paying homage to its storied past while embracing the future of visual arts. The Atrium, adorned with old-growth pine floors reclaimed from historic barns, boasts stunning exhibitions that guests can engage with throughout the day. The Terrace is a recent addition to the event spaces that The Bascom is home to, a covered space where couples can create unforgettable memories against the backdrop of this storied institution.
Get-ready rooms are available onsite for both sides of the wedding party to avail of. Ample parking is available, and the entire property is handicap accessible. Come celebrate your wedding in a venue as unique and beautiful as your love story.

Honestly, I would never have known about the Bascom if it weren’t for a work related activity, and not knowing was a waste. This place is very cool and has a focus on local artists which adds to the appeal. In addition they host classes and wor...
kshops which I’m hoping to participate in in the future. If I remember correctly admission to the exhibits is free and definitely worth checking out. When we went they had a very nice artist in residence exhibit of black and white photos from local nature which was great to see. They also had an exhibit on a family of bowl turners which was impressive due to the scale of the pieces on display. If you go, you won’t be disappointed.

It’s right off downtown, and we almost missed the covered bridge. Since it was Sunday, the main exhibition center was closed, but the pottery studio was open. They have one of a kind stuff - literally - because it made by local artists. Not ...
the kitsch stuff. We loved walking the grounds seeing the sculpture pieces. It reminded me of a little Brookgreen Gardens. Stop by.

Beautiful well maintained space. We had a wonderful visit here. There is a nature walk through the grounds - there are various art sculptures installations along the way and the path leads you to a stream where there is a covered porch area y...
ou can sit and listen to the running water. It was so peaceful. They have a retail store that features local artists filled with so many unique items! There are a few galleries/ exhibits and the majority of the pieces were for sale. We enjoyed walking the garden and viewing the three exhibits in the main building. They also offer classes for adults and children. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful.
