The BlackHorse Farm in Rush, KY was an absolutely beautiful venue if you like horse farms up a country road. This reception arena is spacious & delicately decorated. You don't need...
a whole lot of decorations. The workers are friendly and eager to move heavy objects to please you. However, it doesn't get five starts for three reasons. The first reason is that there is no kitchen. I know it is a barn, but for such a large capacity, there is no where to prepare such a large amount of food to feed your guests. Yes, we knew this going into it and everyone worked well with it; but this definitely would increase the appeal and convenience. Another reason for four stars is there is no cell service, but the bride and groom get wifi. However, the wifi doesn't reach to the bridal suite so there is basically no service nor wifi. I understand the owners give out the password and allow the couple to hang out near the house to have a signal. Realistically, the bride will not be able to linger around the house and this is also a hazard in the event of an emergency. They will also offer the house phone, but the house phone is mostly out of range in the bridal suite as well. Lastly, there is no area for the groom's party to get ready or hang out. We knew this going into it as well, and were able to hook up a camper for them to cool off and get ready. These are a few things any couple should know prior to booking this venue. Overall, we had a magical day at this beautiful farm.
In July of 2017, I held my wedding ceremony and reception at The BlackHorse Farm. While every bride dreams of a flawless wedding venue, it's rare that those dreams are fulfilled. I...
'm extremely fortunate to have witnessed my dreams come to fruition as The BlackHorse Farm was transformed into what I had imagined over the course of time leading up to the big day. I had never been a huge proponent of outdoors ceremonies due to uncertainties associated with the weather; however, The BlackHorse Farm reduced all concerns by confirming the ceremony could be moved indoors if necessary.
While many weddings mimicked the same setup and design style, I had opted for something unique and different. The owner, Jessica, was more than encouraging and had no issues with how I chose to set up for the ceremony or reception. There are so many creative options for designing a personalized ceremony. Aligning with the same creativity options, the reception area is no different. The arena was a beautiful spot to hold a wedding celebration, especially with the option to control the climate on a hot July day. We had roughly 160 guests attend and experienced no issues with space or crowding.
Regarding decor, The BlackHorse Farm was supportive of our choice to bring in numerous decorations. Beyond just adding floral arrangements to the tables, we filled the arena with plants and flowers to compliment the more neutral tones of the space. There is so much room for creative design which I appreciated greatly! Moreover, the Bride and Bridesmaids have a suite above the arena designated solely for their use where they are able to prepare for the day and store all personal items out of sight. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at The BlackHorse Farm. I highly recommend this venue to anyone interested in a rustic-style wedding venue!
Super gorgeous place! They were very accommodating for everything. The only thing I wish was different, is there is no service there, and they do not have wifi!
I got married on June 3rd, 2017 at the Black Horse Farm and I cannot even describe how perfect my wedding was and how the owners made sure everything was exactly how I wanted it fo...
r our big day! The Black Horse Farm overly exceeded my expectations. The inside of the arena is absolutely beautiful with its woodwork and chandeliers hanging throughout. They have a concrete dancefloor with a real discoball! I have always wanted a barn wedding and when I found out it was air conditioned- I jumped on it!! Of course, you could have an outdoor wedding at this location- but with chances of rain and June heat- having it all indoor worked out perfect. They include the use of their tables and chairs- I had enough for 160+ people. There is also a projector where I put together a slideslow to kill time for our guests when we took pictures! The stable is nearby for anyone who wanted to go over and see their horses, which the kiddos loved!! They also have a shuttle now to valet guests from parking to the barn!! It came in super handy with my grandparents and other elderly guests. Plus, there is a bridal suite above the arena with a restroom, sofa, and table. It worked out perfect for my 6 bridesmaids and I to get ready. They even let me borrow a horse to take pictures after the ceremony! The Black Horse Farm is beautiful and I would recommend it to anyone!! I checked out and toured soooo many barn wedding venues and this one is by far the best!!! You can see pictures on their website and Facebook pages- but they don't do the barn justice. It is a must see in person and you will fall in love like I did!! :) I cannot thank the Black Horse Farm enough, it was my dream wedding!
Was a bridesmaid in a wedding there. The staff was extremely unhelpful. The wedding was supposed to be outside and there was a torrential downpour so we had to move the ceremony in...
side - which is fine, weather happens. In order to change plans we had to rearrange the inside barn area, also fine except that the four men who worked for the barn refused to do anything. Guests had to move tables and the mother of the bride had to ask the them for extra chairs, which we paid for, and had to beg them to be brought in. It also flooded inside because of the new construction outside- also things happen ( we weren't told the construction would be there)... except that we couldn't get any staff to help and by the time they got there the linens on the head table were soaking up muddy water and there was 4 inches of water right in front of the catering table. There also weren't even enough spaces at the head table for the entire bridal party (which they knew ahead of time)... there was a huge lack of activity from staff. Also this is not the place to book if you have family that has trouble with stairs because the only bathroom is in the bridal lounge upstairs. Guests had to go outside and climb a full flight in order to use the one bathroom- also difficult when it's raining because it is exposed. Overall interesting place for a wedding but if there is anything you need during set-up or arrival expect to be met with an attitude. Rain and inclement weather obviously can't be helped, but a positive service experience would have made all the difference. Having the owner call guests a bitch doesn't help either.. Also there is zero cell phone service and no wifi.
