We did fly out for a group tasting night to pick the menu, which was nice because you're seated with strangers and can get outside opinions on the food. Alli did a great job communicating with us in the months leading up, and then was there on the day of to make sure everything went smoothly. While I'm not planning to get married again, I would definitely host another event there.

Alli Prato was their On-Site Event Coordinator, Jacob and Derek were the Staff Captains that took care of everything throughout the reception, and everyone did a fantastic job. We met Alli when we first visited The Boathouse to take a peek at the event space and she also worked with us during the planning phase. She was phenomenal. She was very prompt and responsive along the way as we bombarded her with questions throughout the process. She covered everything right down to the last detail. She even offered suggestions and ideas that made everything perfect for them. The food was delicious, and everyone raved about the crab cakes and the beef that they chose as menu selections. They thoroughly enjoyed both the food and drinks. Jacob and Derek were amazing – from setup, to waiting on everyone throughout the night, to the wrap up stages, at the end of the evening and they also kept us abreast as the evening progressed. Our lead-up coordinator, Alli, addressed every question and miniscule detail with patience and kindness, and our day-of coordinator, Liz, brought a calm, reassuring confidence that put us at ease that day. They ensured that our guests with dietary restrictions had plenty to eat during the reception, and they even made sure the air freshener that's usually in the getting-ready room was unplugged before I arrived because I'm sensitive to strong smells. The servers working our reception (during which we had the brunch buffet, which we HIGHLY recommend) were everything you want in banquet staff — polite, attentive, unobtrusive. We had small snafus with some of our other vendors, but everything related to the venue went off without a hitch. Planning a wedding isn't exactly fun no matter how you slice it, but you'll be in good hands with the Boathouse team. And if you go for the brunch buffet, don't sleep on the add-on waffle station — our guests are still raving about those waffles three weeks later.

When you book a wedding with the Boathouse you will be assigned a planning professional and day of coordinator that has experience doing weddings at the Boathouse, and coordinating Boathouse staff. They will help plan, coordinate vendors, and corral guests and staff on the day of. This is extremely valuable as unlike a separate day of coordinator they have the authority and confidence to make everything happen from setting up tables with your decorations to making tiny hospitality touches like serving the bride and groom early and making regular check-ins. This is normally a service that costs thousands of dollars but comes with booking through the Boathouse and will make the couple’s evening excellent. Our coordinator, Alli Prato was not like a stereotypical wedding planner in the best of ways. Her straightforward “I have seen and handled everything before” attitude gave the bride, and mother of the bride complete confidence that any mishaps would be handled by a competent professional. She listened to exactly what we wanted and executed that exactly. She never pushed for extra charges but just told us what things cost and what she advised to have our vision executed. The food and service was the original reason we decided to book the Boathouse and did not disappoint. Having a full service restaurant upstairs means your food will be professionally prepared fresh and not through lukewarm catering treys. The Boathouse definitely uses their “A-Team” for weddings as all servers were experienced professionals that ensured all guests were taken care of. The venue for the ceremony and reception give a majestic view of the river with the Richmond skyline in the background (either go there for happy-hour or check out their Instagram to see for yourself). Having the ceremony and reception 2 floors away from each other means you save yourself the hassle of coordinating transportation and it is easier on your elderly guests. Our wedding was 60 guests and the size felt perfect for that number. I think the Rockett’s Landing location maxes out at 150 and I could see that size being a little cramped. If you want your wedding to be stress-free, elegant, and professionally run do not hesitate to book with the Boathouse. I can’t imagine having our wedding anywhere else and getting through it with our sanity. The price is definitely affordable for the value you get. Please have no wedding regrets and book with the confidence that your wedding will be incredible.

We felt so taken care of. From the moment we stepped off the trolley she was asking us what we needed and made sure we had drinks and food. She provided helpful prompting throughout the night to help us stay on track and was so sweet. The Boathouse staff was incredible. We had our own server just for us. Additionally, all our guest received their platted dinner at about the same time and raved at how good the chicken and the fish were. I’ve been to many weddings where table 1 is finished before table 14 has been served. We were blown away by their service. They helped pack everything up at the end of the night and gave us a to go back. Everything went so smooth and our guests really enjoyed the venue, the views and the food. They are such a wonderful venue and the staff is incredible. Highly recommend.

li Prato, who is the biggest star of the show. My husband and i got married on November 2nd. We were given access to the day- of coordinator at the 2-month mark and Alli was prompt. During our first meeting, I knew her personality and temperament were going to be our perfect fit. Alli was very organized and kept things simple, which was incredible for an overwhelmed couple planning their own wedding. When I didn’t know answers to some of her questions (i.e., where our desserts were coming from, details regarding the # of vendors, etc.) there was no judgement, just a “to do” list that formed which gave a nice flexibility to a stressful process. At our 2 weeks out meeting, Alli put so much of my anxiety to ease. She laid out all of our options for us very clearly and was consistent in double checking our selections. She also helped us problem solve some uncertainties and gave her input when we asked, given her experience with weddings compared to ours. We all think our families are crazy, so I also want to shout Alli out for her patience with my family through the reception and wedding day chaos; moving people around, giving directions, making sure certain things were done the way I asked per my vision. On the day of our wedding, one out of the four flower pieces for our ceremony was compromised and without second thought Alli jumped into problem solving mode. She forged a plan for the extra flowers we had to travel to the Boathouse and, boom, a replacement was born without me having to lift a finger or lend a second thought. That’s above and beyond. That speaks for itself. Alli’s entire role in our day was irreplaceable and so valuable, specifically because of who she is. She brought ease, she made everything feel simple and exciting and fun (because it’s your wedding and that’s how it should feel), and she was so attentive to every detail, including the ones specific to us and our requests. The Boathouse as a venue is to die for. The food was AMAZING, our guests still talk about it! We chose to go with a heavy hor d’oeuvres style reception dinner because I loved the idea of having a little bit of everything in terms of food. Soooooo good. The process of deciding food, dinner style, bar, etc was made so simple by the booklet given to us when we first visited the Boathouse. On the day of, the weather held up for us and absolutely showed out, which accentuated Boathouse’s gorgeous features, the beautiful lakefront, and the entire setting. The inside reception space was the perfect size for our 100 person wedding; we did not do a traditional dinner style because we wanted people to feel encouraged to move around the space from start to end of the night so the size of the space gave us plenty of extra space for people to dance, mingle, and engage! The staff working our wedding were so incredibly nice and helpful. The only con of the Boathouse as a venue is that they are not able to accommodate for a getting ready suite; this worked out for me because my family was renting a large air bnb that we planned on getting ready at, but definitely something for all to be aware of. You cannot go wrong by booking your wedding at the Boathouse!!

This meant that we needed a great location with as few additional vendors as possible since logistics are challenging planning from another state. The Boathouse and its team delivered! Alli was so gracious with our many emails and planning from a distance with Zoom when needed. On the day of, Kristan was the most amazing and calming event coordinator we could have asked for as we enjoyed our party! She and the entire team (shoutout also to Anya and many others) ensured that we had as few logistics to worry about for the evening and especially made sure that we AND our families were taken care of all night. We were especially touched that they made sure that our parents and siblings always had food and drink and were okay while we were able to catch up with friends we hadn't seen in such a long time. Additionally, they were able to both take direction at times where needed and go with the flow too when uncertainty was at play. Everyone was so kind and the food was on point. This allowed us to have an amazing time without getting caught up in the details; we could not have asked for a better setting and team than the Boathouse to celebrate our wedding.Thank you all for a wonderful time!

our event at the Boathouse! The boathouse is worth every penny you pay. We were planning an out of state wedding and we never felt stressed working with the Boathouse staff. Staff was friendly and helpful in the planning process. All the staff made you feel like your event was their only event and quickly responded to questions. Our wedding guests were in awe of the venue and the food quality. From the appetizers to the plated dinner, guests were so stuffed with not wanting to waste 1 bite. The Boathouse staff event went above and beyond and packed leftover desserts for guests to take as they left the reception. Such a small touch but it went a long way for guests to enjoy local RVA desserts the next day. We heard from so many guests they had never been to a wedding where they left so satisfied with the food and service. We cannot say enough how the Boathouse carried out our vision of our wedding and went above and beyond in service. The Boathouse staff went out of their way to coordinate an incredible wedding. We wanted to surprise our guests with glow sticks for the last hour of dancing and Boathouse staff quickly jumped in and said we can handle that. We assumed we would need to ask our wedding party to help pass them out but with the Boathouse staff going above and beyond, our wedding party and us could just have fun dancing. We cannot wait to come back over the years and take in that wonderful view of the RVA skyline and enjoy the incredible food again.

Alli was incredibly helpful and easy to work with. She had a clear plan of how she normally runs things, but also was completely open to anything I wanted to change or do differently. I appreciated her having an outline to work off of, but that The Boathouse is flexible to basically whatever my husband and I (and my mom!) wanted to do. Alli was always so nice and never made me feel any idea or want I had was too small. The extra upgrades we chose (dance floor, fancy water glasses, food upgrades, etc.) were all well worth the money. The tasting event was super fun and everything we tried was great, it made it hard to choose! On our wedding day, The Boathouse staff took care of absolutely everything. From setup, to moving flower arrangements between the ceremony and reception spaces, to the passed drinks and appetizers, to serving dinner and dessert, the staff was knowledgeable and professional. I am a naturally high stress person and was worried that my wedding day would be unenjoyable because I would be so anxious, but Alli and the rest of the staff made me feel completely relaxed and and I was able to truly have the best day of my life! All of our guests raved about how delicious the food and drinks were, as well as how helpful and prompt the servers were. Throughout the day Alli was incredibly helpful with any little question or thing that needed to be done. Overall, I would recommend The Boathouse to anyone who wants a venue with gorgeous views and an impeccable wedding experience.

Vincent and me, married at The Boathouse on November 5th, 2022. We were thrilled at the prospect of tying the knot in a central location, close to the river and the city we call home, so The Boathouse was our first choice venue. We were surprised to find that it was within our budget and we immediately moved to book our date. For us, the name of the game for planning our wedding was value and minimal stress. We considered hiring a wedding planner and/or day-of coordinator, but with Alli Prato, this was wholly unnecessary and we were able to save money on planning services. Alli was with us every step and was on point about all the details: food, decor, linens, DJ, ceremony, all of it. If you go with The Boathouse, you have at least a year before your date, and you're comfortable planning most wedding tasks unrelated to the venue (hotels, flowers, guests, invitations, etc.), then there is no need to hire a planner, as Alli takes care of virtually all venue-related tasks. Our ceremony took place outside, overlooking the river and Richmond skyline. We lucked out with perfect weather and it was beautiful! Our reception was upstairs in the River View Room, and guests could mingle outside on the patio/balcony, or inside by the bar or dancefloor. This inside/outside situation was perfect, since November 5th could have been chilly. Also, even though my husband and I hardly had time to eat for spending time with friends and family, the food was amazing! We went with the heavy hors d'oeuvres option, so there were passed appetizers, food stations, etc. This worked well for 135 people and everyone had plenty to eat and plenty of options. Another aspect we loved was that The Boathouse pays their staff a competitive hourly wage and includes gratuity. My husband and I have worked in the service industry so it was important to us that working our wedding was lucrative for servers and bartenders. We had a perfect day surrounded by so many people we loved, and The Boathouse was just the place <3 -Natalie

She helped guide us through everything in the meetings leading up to the big day and made sure we thought about all the small details that may not have crossed our minds. Once the day started I didn't have to think about anything - she was just there making it happen. Having all of the seating, food, and alcohol all included was wonderful & everyone thought everything tasted great. We really only had to bring in a DJ, flowers, and cake/desserts. Everything else was taken care of by the venue. AND it is naturally beautiful so we didn't feel like we had to go all out on flowers/decor. I can't say enough about how AMAZING our day was, and a huge part of this was The Boathouse - especially Alli. We wish we could relive this day over & over!

mportantly, it's own style and ambience without needing additional decorations. The location on the James River, at the bend where you can see the city in the backdrop, was perfect. The wrap-around covered terrace was perfect [in case of weather] for the evening to have the ability to step outside. The food and food options are all incredible (MUST get the ham biscuits!) and the beverage package (Silver) was perfect for all. We did have our ceremony at the venue, but chose to have it inside on the dance floor to make it a very intimate setting (chairs for parents only, everyone else gathered around. We did cocktail style food the entire night, with pass smaller options during cocktail hour and then progressively heavier options passed or put out buffet style during the rest of the evening. We had 90 guests and with the area required for the band and the 12'x20' dance floor (upgrade from the 12'x12' standard), the space was perfect with little wasted space nor crowding. The planning process was excellent. We had a combination of in-person and virtual meetings. All options were laid out very well at the beginning and the package pricing really makes it easy to choose what is right for you and your guest size. We did add the larger dance floor which i would say is a must if you have at least a 50 person guest list, We also added additional cafe string lights above the dance floor, which I would do again, but beware that a typical summer wedding (we did 6p-10p) it won't get dark for some time into the event and the lights won't be of much use until it gets darker. If the band or DJ has their own lighting, you could probably do without the lights. Also same for the uplighting that we added on the middle columns. They were an add-on that the venue provided via a 3rd party vendor. Great for the night time, but something to consider if a large portion of your ceremony or reception would be in the daylight. The River Room windows and terrace face almost due West, so you will get some nice sunset lighting, but if it's summer you will have sunlight coming in until 7p-ish. I am finding it hard to find any critiques. It was truly perfect. Wedding coordinators were excellent (Alli and Chanae), food and beverage options perfect, great location to downtown hotels, and I believe an overall excellent value for what you get.

o get a coordinator to help you through the entire planning process and be the point person on the day of the wedding. Alli was our coordinator, and honestly, I don’t know how we would have had the experience we had without her. She was fantastic from the initial planning to the wedding, making her job look easy. The big day went smoothly without a hitch - with every detail taken care of. Our guests had an absolute blast. From being next to the river with great views of downtown to the fantastic food - it couldn’t get much better. People are still raving about what a great time they had. Thank you, Alli for everything you did to make our day amazing. You’re the best!

ginning to end. Our awesome coordinator, Alli, walked us through everything. She was always present, helpful, and available to answer any question, big or small. The day of the wedding, Alli and her amazing team saw to all details of decor placement and vendor deliveries. During the reception, they made sure that everyone’s needs were met, so all we had to do was relax and enjoy the evening. The atmosphere, elegant room, river view, and delicious food were perfect. (Friends are still raving about the food!) I would highly recommend The Boathouse at Rocketts Landing for your wedding and/or reception.

n absolute DREAM to work with. She handled every single detail perfectly. She got us drinks all night long, made sure we had enough to eat, and ensured every guest had a great night. The venue had everything to offer from AMAZING food (guests said they had never had wedding food this good), gorgeous water views, friendly staff and beautiful reception and ceremony spaces. I would recommend The Boathouse and Alli to ANY bride that asked. Best wedding ever!!!!!
