Sharlane Conner started dancing at age 9 & has been teaching for over 15 years. She majored in Dance at Dean College and trained at The Alvin Ailey School's Summer Intensive & Independent Study Programs. She previously worked at Dance With Me Studios (owned by DWTS pros Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy) as an assistant manager, dance instructor & chief administrative coordinator where she trained & competed in multiple Ballroom, Latin & Social dance styles. Wedding couples are her favorite because each one has a different personality & energy that help create a dance that is unique to just them!

Sharlane is amazing and 5-stars doesn't do her justice! In the weeks leading up to our wedding, she somehow taught us all the basic fundamentals we needed before choreographing out first dance beautifully. On the big day, our dance (courtesy of Sharlane's vision and training) was all anyone could talk about...they all loved it, as did we! She is an excellent instructor in every way possible and makes the lessons super fun! We already miss her bubbly personality. Her passion for dancing is contagious, so much so that we've come to love it and plan to continue with more lessons from her in the future. Sharlane is also patient, detail-oriented, flexible and just super easy to work with. It was truly a joy and we'd recommend her to any couple, from beginners (like us) to expert dancers.

Sharlane is THE most incredible teacher. Our first dance at our wedding was our first dance EVER and our guests swore that couldn't be the case lol. She is patient, totally makes you comfortable, and made us look like we'd been dancing for years. We even kind of messed up the choreography a little (nerves lol) but because of how well Sharlane taught us, no one guessed it! I highly, HIGHLY recommend her for your first dance! And my husband, who was really not into dancing at all at first, has already mentioned continuing lessons with her in the future!! She's the best!

Sharlane is fantastic. She has a great personality and was super flexible with our crazy schedules. She worked hard to come up with our dance on a really short notice and we feel really prepared for our big day! We would highly recommend her!

Sharlane is the best dance instructor out there. My wife and I had so much fun at our lessons with her. She was able to put together a dance that fit our exact vibe. Our guests were blown away during our first dance. I would recommend Sharlane to absolutely anyone who needs a dance teacher. She’s fun, kind, energetic, funny, and incredibly professional.

We cannot rave enough about Sharlane!!! She was so incredible in helping my husband and I not only choreograph and practice our wedding first dance, but also generally learn how to move and dance as a unit. We picked a song and Shar choreographed a beautiful dance fit for our level, and was always game to change the pieces to suit our preferences any time we asked. She’s endlessly creative. The dance had such a great flow in speed, variety of moves, etc. Her ability to break down the steps, how in tune she was with the beat and music, and her enthusiasm at each class made us always look forward to our lessons. She made the class light hearted and fun - we always had a ball laughing and practicing. Both of us had little to no dance background and were really quite nervous but she made us feel so comfortable every lesson. Shar is also clearly just a very talented dancer herself and you could tell she loved it and loved teaching. We aspire to dance more in the future and regardless of style of dance we know we’re calling 😜

Sharlane was an absolute miracle to work with! Not only did she create such an incredible first dance for me and my husband to do together on our wedding day, but she also made the process fun and easy. From the very beginning, she was super warm and made us feel extremely comfortable with her! She also incorporated our “vision” into the dance and made sure it was exactly what we wanted! I am eternally grateful to her, as she created such a magical, special moment for us that we will cherish forever! My husband and I cannot recommend Sharlane highly enough!!! Working with her on our first dance for our wedding was truly a highlight of our wedding planning experience. Sharlane is so kind and inspiring - lessons with her were equally fun and calming and filled us with confidence for the big day. Sharlane created and taught us a 4 minute choreographed dance in less than 2 months which felt like a miracle, as we had zero dance experience prior to our lessons. Our first dance itself was one of the most special parts of our wedding day. We are so grateful to Sharlane for creating this experience for us which we will cherish for a lifetime!

Sharlane is the best!! We used her for choreography and lessons for our First Dance. She was recommended to us by a friend and she went above and beyond. We texted with her prior to our first lesson to decide on a vibe and song and from there she immediately took it over. She came with ideas and was patient with us as we stumbled through. Sharlane was amazing and went above and beyond to choreograph and teach us our first dance all via Zoom video lessons!
My wife and I aren’t dancers and we hadn’t ever really danced with each other before our wedding day. We decided we should take lessons so we’d feel as comfortable as possible on our special day. Sharlane was everything we could have hoped for! She started from the basics and made sure we were comfortable with leading and being lead. Then we started with the choreography which she broke down to be as simple as possible. She went out of her way to record clips of any parts of the dance with a partner for us to use as reference while we practiced and made sure we felt great with each part before continuing.
We met for 5 lessons over a month all via Zoom and 1 time in person the day before our wedding to practice in the space. Sharlane couldn’t have made the process any more simple and left us feeling very confident and excited to dance with each other.

I was so lucky to find The Dance Lane on The Knot for my wedding choreography!! My husband and I wanted a non-traditional first dance that was a little hip hop and super fun! Sharlane was absolutely amazing to work with, and the dance came out even better than I expected!! Sharlane's Dance Lane was a groove my then future-husband and I loved being in so much as we learned not one but two dances for our wedding, that when we returned home from the celebrations, we wanted to continue taking more dance classes! Sharlane took on the challenging task of continuing on where another instructor left off for a Saturday Night Fever dance that we wanted to precisely replicate. The footwork wasn't always clear from the film footage but with her creativity and skill as a dancer she was able to pull it all together. Her instruction style was personal, supportive and fun. We hated to see our classes come to an end, but she gave us 100% confidence that we would pull off a great performance. The second dance she choreographed herself and the vibe was exactly what we wanted. Most importantly both dances were a ton of fun to pull off. We tried them out on our 1st anniversary, and we still remembered all of our steps!

Sharlane was great! All we gave her was the song we wanted for our first dance and she did the rest. She came to our place for an hour once a week for a couple of months and designed a choreography that was fun and upbeat enough to impress our guests but simple enough for us to pull off. She did a really good job of teaching us the steps gradually so we could put it all together without ever feeling frustrated or overwhelmed. By our wedding day we had it down and we pretty much nailed it!

Sharlane is a fantastic, creative, and patient dance instructor. While I had some basic steps in my pocket from dance lessons when I was little and I have a background in music, I had never learned to ballroom dance. My fiancé had no background whatsoever and had all left feet. By the end of our time together, we had a lovely first dance for our wedding AND a salsa combo that could bring my husbands love of Latin music to life. I was thrilled we hired her. She is extremely flexible with schedules and even did a virtual session when our schedules didn’t match. I would not hesitate to hire her for any wedding day prep.

Sharlane is a professional, experienced and creative dance instructor. My fiancée and I came to her with ambitious plans for two dances with only a few months before our wedding. She was able to take my vague ideas and choreograph two realistic and beautiful dances for us - a salsa and a waltz. We are not the best dancers so I appreciated her patience with us. She is also very friendly and warm which made the process fun for us. Highly recommend.

We hired Sharlane to choreograph and rehearse us for our first dance, a modern rumba style to a meaningful song for us. My husband had never taken a dance class and I am a trained dancer so we were an interesting pair! Sharlane created a lovely, impressive (but not too hard) dance for us and she was great about including my input and ideas into the choreography. Sharlane was positive and full of upbeat energy throughout our rehearsals and my husband picked up everything! My husband’s family and friends were so excited to see him dance so smoothly and I’m so glad we did a proper choreographed number. Sharlane cares greatly about her clients and puts her whole heart into teaching! We would highly recommend her as your fantastic wedding dance coach and choreographer!

We got a recommendation for Sharlane from a few friends that also had a wonderful experience. We had a great time learning our wedding dance, neither of us are dancers but it was a really fun bonding experience before the wedding and we loved working with Sharlane. She was able to come up with a routine that looked great but wasn’t too advanced for us, everyone at the wedding loved it and we got some amazing photos. Would recommend her to everyone!

Sharlane is the best dance instructor we could have ever asked for! She made our wedding day even more special by choreographing not just one but two unforgettable dances. The first dance was a beautiful traditional one, but the real showstopper was the fun mashup surprise dance we did later in the night. All we had to do was give her a mashup of songs, and she ran with it, creating fantastic choreography that tore the house down.
We were impressed with her amazing ability to choreograph fun and easy-to-learn moves during our sessions with her. She was incredibly flexible and patient, always listening to us when we couldn't do a move, or if it just wasn't popping. Our surprise dance was a huge hit with our friends and family, and we received countless compliments on how well we pulled it off.
Our sessions with Sharlane were always super fun, and we'd love to work with her again in the future. We highly recommend Sharlane to anyone who wants to design a super fun dance and make it pop! She truly exceeded our expectations, and we're so grateful for everything she did for us.

It was always my dream to perform the final dance from the iconic film "Dirty Dancing" for all of my guests at my wedding. After meeting Sharlane, I finally had faith that this is something my husband and I could pull off.
Sharlane was able to cure my husband’s two left feet! We couldn’t be happier with our patient and talented instructor’s help preparing for our wedding dances (yes two!). Within three months we were taught two entire routines which were major successes on our big day (our dirty dancing wedding video currently has over 6 million views on Youtube!). Our experience with Sharlane was, quite simply, phenomenal. She choreographed an incredibly unique and complete showstopper of a first dance for us. Despite my husband and I having limited dance experience (I did ballet until middle school but haven’t danced since, and my husband… well… 🙈), Sharlane showcased the best of our abilities and was so incredibly patient and adaptive. With her help, we exceeded our expectations for ourselves and were even able to incorporate /two/ lifts into our dance! She made the whole process fun with just the right amount of challenge so we could meet our goal of having a far-from-boring but easy-to-remember routine for our Big Day. My biggest regret is not having a videographer to film it. Besides being a great dancer and teacher, she is an extremely kind person with a great sense of humor who genuinely cares about her clients. Sharlane was the best choice we made for our wedding, and I’ll continue to recommend her to my friends for years to come.
