The Essex Inn

The Essex Inn is a delightful, historical wedding venue located in Tappahannock, Virginia. This unique destination will transport you and your guests from the moment you step foot on the beautifully landscaped property. Inside the 1851 estate you will find heart pine floors, numerous fireplaces, and gracious furnishings. The 1710 Tavern, located directly across the street from the Inn, completes the perfect wedding venue. Both the Inn and the Tavern provide a historic backdrop with all the modern conveniences for the perfect celebration. Perfect for small weddings (50-75 guests), the team at The Essex Inn will provide exceptional service for your dream wedding. With both indoor and outdoor spaces, you can host your rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception. In addition, luxury overnight accommodations are available for the wedding party, family and friends, with four complete suites in the 1851 mansion, and four cottage-style apartments located in the estate’s original outbuildings. The full-service event space including tables, chairs, china, flatware, glassware, and linens will make your festivities stress-free. Event coordination is available. The catering team and bar staff will work with you to create a customized menu that can be served in an array of formats: buffet, plated, family-style, and more. Included in wedding packages is access to two get-ready suites, with one located in the main house and one located directly across the street at the 1710 Tavern. Elopements and other wedding-related events are welcome here as well, such as engagement parties, showers, and rehearsal dinners. Ample street parking is available.
