The Flying Pig Dance Studio

I highly recommend this dance studio! My fiancé and I took 3 classes to learn how to dance for our wedding. Before the lessons, I was very nervous for our first, and I wasn’t excited about it. Now it is one of the things I am looking forward to the most at our wedding! We learned way more than we expected and now we are confident in our slow dance skills. This was super fun!

Erika is the best! She helped us feel comfortable and confident for our big day! We had so much fun that we already want to go back and see her again :)

It was important to us to have a choreographed dance for our wedding. We are far from experienced dancers and Erika guided us through our routine like an absolute pro. Erika started us off with simple moves to practice, which somehow evolved into an entire 3 minute dance that aligned perfectly with our first dance song! She even helped us decide on our song, we discussed and strategized about the venue, and she listened to our questions and feedback during every session. We highly recommend her and would love to join other classes offered at Flying Pig!

Erika is the BEST!! We cannot wait for our first dance thanks to her. We had such a blast learning from her; she gave us simple and beautiful movies that went perfectly with our song. She is wonderful and we are so grateful for our time with her!

I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH GREAT THINGS ABOUT ERIKA! My husband and I both hate having all eyes on us (not great for wedding day, I know...) and so we decided to do the dance lessons to make sure we felt comfortable. Truthfully, neither of us were looking forward to them until we met Erika for our first lesson and felt about 10x more comfortable and most importantly, more confident. We loved our 5 lessons with her so much we added on 2 lessons for our respective Father/Daughter and Mother/Son dances and our parents were also over the moon with her and her ability to mold to our personalities. I cannot say enough great things about Flying Pig Dance Studio or Erika, just know she is worth her weight in gold.

Bride's Review: Some brides dream about their whole wedding and have all the details in their head before they are even engaged. The only thing I had thought about for years prior to my wedding was the first dance. I knew going in that my fiance and I would need lessons. I am THRILLED we went with The Flying Pig! Erika is the GREATEST instructor. She made all the steps seem so attainable and doable. Even when my fiance or would mess up, she was so patient and amiable. She was a joy to learn from and work with. We even scheduled another dance lesson for after the wedding and we will be going back for her date night events! Groom's Review: I loved how easy it was. Erika actually made learning to dance fun. The first dance was the thing I was most worried about going into wedding planning, etc., so much so that I didn't even want to do the first dance. By the wedding day, the first dance was the thing I was most confident in because we had practiced so much and Erika's teaching and choreography were so amazing.

My husband and I took lessons from Erika for our July wedding. We came in with absolutely no dance experience and a song that we had never seen used as a first dance song before - we only knew it had special meaning to us and were hoping we could have our instructor turn it into something great. Erika did just that! In just six lessons we were able to learn our entire dance and perform it with confidence in front of our guests. We got lots of comments saying how great it was, especially because our friends and family know we're not dancers! It's one of my favorite memories from our wedding. My husband and I loved working with Erika! I have quite a bit of dance experience but my husband had none so he was nervous going into our lesson, however Erika did such a great job of teaching the basics. She showed us how to incorporate a few moves in our first dance without it being completely choreographed or overly complicated. The best part is that she took a video of our first dance at the end of our lesson so we could go back and watch later on. It was such a fun experience and we felt SO much more confident & prepared on our wedding day! I highly recommend working with her. You won’t regret it!

Dance lessons with Erika were a highlight of our preparation for our May 2022 wedding. We originally purchased the Beginner series package with two private lessons. I think almost anyone could feel confident doing a beautiful first dance with that package, but we had so much fun we decided to continue to the Intermediate series. Erika is great at offering feedback and instruction, and she really helped us become great dance partners to one another. Our wedding first dance went perfectly and was also so much fun. Taking dance lessons was actually my husband's idea because he wanted to feel more confident for our first dance. I would not have thought to do it without his suggestion. While dance lessons may not seem like a "need" in an increasingly complex wedding planning process, the opportunity to connect with each other and learn something new together during our engagement was priceless. I would highly recommend!

Erika was an absolute gem to work with. We had three lessons with her before our wedding. She made us feel comfortable and gave us great pointers and instructions throughout the entire lesson. We loved every minute of our private lessons with Erika! She was so bubbly and sweet, and, as promised, she worked with us until we felt comfortable and confident on the floor! The moves that she taught us were not only easy to do but also fun to execute! As an added bonus, they looked beautiful and professional to those watching as well. I even overheard one of bridesmaids say, "I guess those lessons paid off" as we were dancing, and she was absolutely right. I would recommend Erika to absolutely anyone!

Working with Erika was the perfect fit for my fiancé and I! We were looking to find a pre-wedding dance studio/instructor that could be patient and encouraging of a couple like us with different backgrounds in social dance and a lack of confidence in our abilities to learn. She was the exact right teacher to make us feel welcome and comfortable. She really understood our goals for taking dance lessons and made us feel relaxed and confident. We ended up taking both a group class and individual class with her and loved both formats. Really affordable and beginner-friendly! My husband has some dance experience, but I had NONE so I wanted to take a few lessons before our wedding. I left feeling so much more excited and ready for our first dance. The studio is so cute, too!

We signed up for a set of group lessons initially, and had no idea we were also signing up for a great date night idea! The lessons were a great way leading up to our wedding for my partner and I to take a moment together - without any of the other wedding stress, and just have fun. Erika was absolutely wonderful and has the most positive attitude! She was incredibly professional, passionate and patient as we learned so many great moves! Even in a group setting she always made it feel personal. The environment was very clean and Erika took all of the right COIVID precautions. We enjoyed it so much we scheduled a few private lessons with Erika, where she helped us plan timing and our entrance for our first dance. We brought our parents to our final lesson as a way to “kick off” the wedding week and practice our mother/son and father/daughter dances. It was so much fun and an experience I will cherish deeply. I connected with Erika prior to my wedding on July 10th. Since we were planning an overseas wedding (we are based in Singapore but got married in Minnesota), I wanted to surprise my wife with dance lessons as she expressed trepidation about the 'first dance' being clumsy and/or boring. I found The Flying Pig Dance Studio highly rated on The Knot and then booked two lessons with Erika. She has such a positive demeanor, is calm, cheerful, and encouraging. All the things you'd want in a dance instructor for a couple with a combined total of 4 left feet. She completely raised our confidence with instructions and concepts that were simple to understand and execute! It made our big day that much better feeling comfortable performing our romantic first dance, and now we will always have these slick dance moves in our back pocket for the rest of our lives. My fiancé did not want to go to dance lessons but we were both sooo glad that we did! We now have a few moves to jazz up our first dance. I would highly recommend Erika and Flying Pig! She even recorded our dance so we could practice before the big day.

Erika is the best!! We knew we wanted to take dance lessons before our first dance, but we were very nervous because we both have two left feet. We were also apprehensive because we didn’t want to spend our first dance overthinking every step, counting, etc. Erika created a dance that was so easy but looked very professional. The moves were interchangeable and built on each other so there was no major learning curve. Erika has the sweetest personality, made every lesson so much fun, and was great to work with! A huge plus was that she took a video at the end of each lesson, talked through each move with little tips, so that we could practice while watching ourselves dance and hear Erika instruct us. 10/10, would absolutely recommend, 5 stars!!! My soon-to-be husband did not like to dance because he wasn’t confident. I took him (reluctantly at first) to The Flying Pig and after one lesson we both fell in love with Erika. Her ability to get us prepared for our first dance at our wedding was amazing! We are getting married next week and are so excited for our dance, all thanks to Erika. Would 100% recommend and we will for sure be back for date nights!!

We were apprehensive about doing dance lessons but Erika made us feel comfortable from the start. I think we surprised ourselves with how we were able to learn several turns and with how well the first dance went on the night of the wedding. We just focused on each other and used some of the techniques Erika taught us to just have fun with it. Highly recommend!

Erika was absolutely amazing! My husband and I are not good dancers, but wanted to gain some skis to have a nice first dance at our wedding. We booked a series of wedding classes along with a final private class. Erika taught us fundamentals we'll use for dancing in the future, along with lots of fun show stopper moves and techniques! This was an AMAZING experience. We booked 5 private lessons with Erika so we could have the perfect first dance. My husband and I are both athletic people, but have no idea how to transfer those skills into dance. Erika was patient as could be with my husband and I. She was a great support and taught us some fun games so we felt looser and relaxed. She never became frustrated with us which was AWESOME because we were both a little nervous going into this process! Overall, I would highly recommend The Flying Pig for those who are wanting to make their first dance on their wedding night one to remember. Amazing experience!! This was hands down the most enjoyable and fun thing about wedding planning. Highly recommend private dance lessons before the wedding. We got to learn a bunch of moves at our own pace, practice with our music, and my fiancé and I got to reconnect during a stressful time aka wedding planning and COVID.

Such a great experience! Erika helped my fiance and I with our first dance when we were only 2 weeks away from our wedding! Within the first session we felt SO much more comfortable. We also loved that she worked with us on fun dance moves instead of typical ballroom dancing. Definitely recommend her!

Erika is an amazing dance instructor! My husband and I had never danced together before, and wanted to at least look like we knew what we were doing beyond the old middle school sway for our first dance at our wedding. We signed up for 5 lessons, but didn't even end up needing the last one. It was a little challenging because of COVID-19 restrictions. Erika couldn't dance with us herself to show us when we weren't getting the moves, but she did an excellent job breaking things down for us by having us watch her dance each part by herself. The most important thing is to practice (like she tells you to!). We practiced at least 3 times a week, and our efforts really payed off! Everyone loved our dance, and our first dance photos are amazing! Thanks so much Erika, we look forward to seeing you at another lesson in the future!

My fiancé and I don’t consider ourselves to be great dancers, so we took one private dance lesson before our wedding and feel 110% more confident for our big day! Erika’s energy is great and she made us feel comfortable from the second we walked through the door. We can’t wait for our first dance! I definitely recommend Erika to new dancers. We’re hoping to go back for a date night class once things with the wedding wind down.

We took dance lessons for our wedding and we had no experience dancing before we came. Erika made us feel comfortable from the start. Erika is absolutely amazing. We wanted to take a couple lessons to avoid having to awkwardly sway back and forth during our first dance. We had so much fun, we added lessons and did a little choreography. Erika even edited two songs together for us. All of our lessons were done within a couple months of our big day and she was VERY flexible with scheduling them. Having the lessons 'forced' us to have dates during a busy time which was a big stress reliever! Erika made the whole process so much fun, I even added had a lesson with my dad. I genuinely could go on and on about how much we loved our experience at The Flying Pig Dance Studio and how great Erika is!

I don’t even remember how we found out about Flying Pig Dance Studio, but I’m sure glad we did! We started off with the monthly couple slow dancing lessons and have slowly turned into life long customers. The couple slow dancing lessons are fantastic especially if you’re not ready or able to plunge into private lessons. It allowed us to develop a great foundation which made us want to learn even more and how we ended up with a fully choreographed dance! Erica and Justin both do an amazing job explaining everything so us non-dance people can grasp what we are supposed to do. I found that a lot of wedding planning felt like a chore, but this was one aspect of our wedding that we truly looked forward to doing every week!

Lovely experience with dance lessons by Erika!

This dance studio is an absolute hidden gem. Erica is a fantastic teacher and is so nice to work with. My fiance and I signed up to do one of their group classes that meets every Tuesday night to work on some slow dance moves. Since we had so much fun at those classes we then signed up for a couple of private sessions and ended up with the most amazing first dance. It wasn't flashy or anything but definitely got us so excited to do our first dance on our big day! Highly recommend this place.

Erika / the Flying Pig Dance studio is AMAZING! We had such an incredible experience with her - I cannot recommend her enough! My husband and I knew we wanted to do a mash-up of songs for our first dance that we wanted choreographed. Neither of us are dancers to say the least, so we figured we'd need a higher number of lessons to learn and perfect our dance. We ended up taking a total of nine 50-minute lessons over the span of about 3 months. We went in with the songs we knew we wanted and the style of dance we wanted (mainly just to have fun and not be too formal) and Erika took that and ran with it! She choreographed our entire dance, asking for our input on every new move she taught us. She was SO great to work with! She made this process a breeze for both me and my husband. She also took the time to make the audio file of our mashed-up songs! It turned out incredible - I would have thought she's a professional music mixer on the side given the quality of the fades from one song to the next! Both me and my dad and my husband and his mom took a lesson to go over the basics so we had some nice moves during our Father / Daughter & Mother / Son dances! She made the moves super easy to remember and it looked GREAT on the dance floor! Our parents felt comfortable and confident during their dances, which sometimes can be a bit of a stressor for parents! I know my dad was nervous, but he really shined during our dance. Looking back, I will forever remember the months leading up to our wedding and the special memories I'll always have of our dance lessons. It was such a nice way to step away from all the stress and craziness of wedding planning and just enjoy an evening of laughter and fun with my soon-to-be hubby. This was hands down my favorite experience during our engagement. We will absolutely be going back for group dance classes - a fun date night to reminisce on the time before our wedding!!

My dad and I took 3 dance classes with Erika before our wedding to help prep us for the father daughter dance. We had so much fun throughout the process--and Erika was so great to work with! I was a bit nervous as I'm not a big dance, but Erika made us both feel super comfortable and helped us put together a dance that blew guests away the day of.

Erika from The Flying Pig Studios is absolutely amazing. My fiancé and I wanted to start dancing as a hobby that we could enjoy for the rest of our lives and that is exactly what we found with the couples swing dance class. Sometimes learning a new skill, especially as an adult, can be daunting, however our dance classes were customizable and completely based on what we wanted to learn that week. Erika broke down the steps into “easy-to-learn” segment, starting our classes with a review on what we learned last class and then we would begin learning additional moves to build on to what we had previously practiced. At the end of our session, we review all the steps, new and old, to reinforce all the progress we made. Erika is energetic, fun, patient and a great teacher. Her teaching style is completely individualized and will work with any couple to make sure you get the most out of each session. We have had a very positive experience and always look forward to our next class!

The Flying Pig Studio is the best place to go for any dancing lessons! My dad and I took dance lessons with Erika for our father-daughter dance and we had an absolute blast. Erika really listened to what we were looking for and gave us the perfect moves to incorporate into our father-daughter dance. This took so much worry out of the wedding day, as my dad and I just truly enjoyed our time dancing together. Couldn't recommend Erika more!

My dad and I decided to take a dance lesson in preparation for our father-daughter dance at my upcoming wedding. My dad suggested the lesson because he has been very nervous about the dance and wanted to be able to feel more confident at my wedding. Our instructor, Erika, certainly instilled confidence in my dad! She walked us through each dance move, step by step, until we perfected the moves. Erika is so patient and kind and has such a great energy that keeps you feeling motivated. She even recorded us dancing on my phone so that we could practice some more before the big day if we wanted to! I would recommend this studio and Erika any day!

Unlike other studios, she walked us through dance moves that would work well for us and our specific wedding song. Her upbeat attitude made us feel comfortable right away and her knowledge for dance had us feeling like professionals after our lessons! This is by far the best place in the twin cities for wedding dance lessons! You will be amazed with how much you learn in only 1-2 lessons. I took lessons with my mom and fiancé, and I’m very happy with the progress we’ve made. You will not be disappointed if you go here!
