The French Gourmet

We had The French Gourmet as our caterer in San Diego for our son's rehearsal dinner. Being out of state, we had no idea where to go for a venue or caterer. A friend who knew San Diego suggested The French Gourmet. From the first time I contacted them I knew this was the group to work with for our event. They immediately could understand the feeling and atmosphere we wanted and suggested a menu that was absolutely perfect. Not only was the food perfect, but the servers were so friendly and professional. So much attention to detail. Michel and Renee were easy to work with throughout the process. They were always prompt with answers to questions and I always felt they had our best interests at heart. My only regret is that I wish they were up in our Seattle area! The Sunday after the wedding we went to a post wedding brunch where French Gourmet pastries were served. Another treat for us on the day after our son's wedding. Look no further for a caterer... they are the ones to use.

I first found The French Gourmet at a bridal bazaar a while back and I tried their cake samples and immediately fell in love. I chose the semi naked, strawberries and Bavarian cream cake and when I tell you it is the best cake I have ever had in my life, I mean it is THE BEST. I decided right then and there that we were going to hire them for the wedding and let me tell you, it was a huge hit! Everyone loved it and the cake was gorgeous too! Tran was very attentive and very kind as well. I can’t recommend them enough!

We worked with The French Gourmet through Karl Strauss as they are the cake vendor of choice at that venue. TFG delivered an AMAZING, four-tiered cake in two different flavors (we picked strawberry and pralinsko) that our guests are STILL raving about! Trang, their wedding cake specialist, was a breeze to work with. She always back to us in a timely fashion and we had a ton of fun chatting and doing our cake tasting! We can’t wait to order a fresh (smaller) cake directly from the source at our one year anniversary!

Their wedding cakes are the best I’ve ever had! So glad we used them for our wedding! Beautiful and tasty!

Perfect food and top-notch service. My husband is French, and the French Gourmet had always been his favorite restaurant in town for French food. They are excellent caterers, as well, which we learned through all our guests’ glowing reviews! Our American, Canadian, and French guests raved about the food, from the tray passed hors d’œuvres to the entrée and croquembouche (we passed on the traditional wedding cake). They provided attentive servers for a sit down meal, keeping the wine and champagne flowing, and a great bartender who handled our drinks list well, including our signature cocktail. Our definite go-to for catering, for sure!

They went above and beyond to have my cheese wheel cake made exactly how I wanted. It was made by Vennisimo Cheese Shop but The French Gourmet kept all the communication open and I barely had to do a thing. Stress free and great to work with.

French Gourmet did our desserts and did a fantastic job. The point of contact at French Gourmet was extremely helpful and attentive, listening to what we needed and were going after. The only hiccup was during the delivery process, there was a miscommunication. But even that worked out in the end.

Great people to work with, and they had wonderful flavors of cake to choose from. We ended up with two flavors; chocolate with raspberry, and a unique nut flavored cake with a hint of chocolate. The presentation was beautiful, they placed the flowers from the florist and it turned out lovely. I would definitely recommend them for your wedding cake!

We went with French Gourmet for our catering and a 3-tiered Wedding Cake was included, we were so impressed with French Gourmet's cake flavors and we couldn't believe how beautiful the cake looked with our florist's flowers adorning the white chocolate shavings. Not to mention, how delicious the cake was! Couldn't' be happier by how our cake table looked and how our cake tasted even while I was smashing it into my husband's face. French Gourmet is the best and I recommend them to all my friends.

We used French Gourmet for our wedding at the Bahia....so so so so DELICIOUS!! I had people walking up to me the whole night telling me how delicious the cake was and multiple people asking for leftovers the next day haha

My husband and I had a French croquembouche instead of a traditional wedding cake at our wedding and The French Gourmet made it beautifully! It was such a stunning focal point on our dessert table, almost too good to eat - almost. ;) Trang was such a pleasure to work with throughout planning - she even allowed me to taste the croquembouche flavors before making a decision. We went with chocolate and it was delicious! Thanks so much for the beautiful creation - it was the perfect nod to my husband's French culture.

The French Gourmet catered my wedding and brunch the next day. The food was amazing and the staff was so professional. My wedding was a huge success and everyone raved about the food. Michel is wonderful to work with and I will use him again in the future. If you are looking for exceptional catering, The French Gourmet will exceed expectations! I also had them do my wedding cake which was delicious and beautiful, exactly what I wanted. Everything was magical! Five stars and then some.

Choosing The French Gourmet as the caterer for our wedding was one of the best decisions we made. We have continued to receive compliments about the quality and display of the food and about the attentiveness of their service. Michel and his team created the experience we wanted for our guests. I asked for a quote for 300 people online about 10 months before the wedding. Michel called me a few days later. He invited me, my fiance, and my parents in to try the food. All of the food was delicious. It made choosing for the wedding very difficult. Aside from the incredible food, Michel offers so much more for any kind of reception. We used his linens, china, and silverware. Healso provided the cake and all of the drinks. Michel knows weddings very well. He helped us plan the reception before and helped us execute our schedule the day of. The French Gourmet went above and beyond. We have recommended them to all of our friends both to cater their weddings to to dine in the restaurant for a date. Michel in particular has become a good friend of our family. He is a man of character and professionalism. He wants your day to be what you want and how you want it.

I've grown up going to the French Gourmet so of course when I got engaged I wanted them to be part of my wedding. Let me begin by saying that their cakes are absolutely gorgeous! They are literal pieces of art. The cake they made for my wedding was so beautiful and delicious too! In addition to the gorgeous cake, the food was also incredible. I definitely recommend all their appetizers and their meats/fish. I received countless compliments on the food :) Besides their amazing cakes and food, their staff is so sweet and very accommodating. They also have amazing linens and beautiful plates/silverware (we used these gorgeous gold chargers). We love The French Gourmet!

I recently got married at Karl Strauss in Sorrento Valley and the cake is included in the package. I was able to choose between French Gourmet and another vendor. Obviously, I chose French Gourmet! They were professional and the cake was OUTSTANDING. I have never eating anything so good in my entire life. The design of my cake was fairly simple but it was elegant. They did exactly what I asked and it was GORGEOUS! So many of my guests said that this cake was the best wedding cake they ever had. I highly recommend them!

Michel and his team at the French Gourmet did an incredible job at our backyard wedding in July. From the moment we met, Michel was willing to go above and beyond for us. We were planning long distance and it was a smaller residential wedding so needless to say we were asking a lot. Michel and his team were so responsive with emails and calls and even a home visit to see the lay of the land. The day of the wedding the team worked very hard to make sure everything was running smoothly. They had water and lemonade before the ceremony, provided a partial bar, set up and clean up all for a very reasonable price. In addition to great service, their menu is amazing. We knew that after our in-house tasting, but it was confirmed by a majority of wedding guests who said it was by far the best food they have ever had at a wedding. Finally, their bake staff was very accommodating as well. I ordered a small cake and 100 cupcakes, of those 25 were personally decorated at no extra charge! Their flavor options are amazing- we recommend the lemon cream! Instant favorite! 5 stars for a great team, overall. Happy Planning! A&S

I have used The French Gourmet for years to cater work holiday events, so knew when I got married there was no other choice. Their food is all amazing, and you never have to worry that there will not be enough. Their team is so easy to work with, taking care of every little detail. We received many compliments on the food - everything from the apps, dinner, cake, and cookies that we had as our table gifts. As a sweet touch, they pack you a basket of apps, dinner, and cake to eat later that night. I loved this as you do not have time to eat (nor did I have the room in my dress) and this let us enjoy everything later that night. I am looking forward to ordering a small cake for our 1 year anniversary. It was sooo good - cheesecake/pound cake combo with raspberry - never tasted anything like it and didn't even think of this combo using cheesecake! Highly recommend!

After trying cakes at many different bakeries in San Diego, my husband and I selected The French Gourmet for our wedding cake on June 27, 2015. We worked with Trang at The French Gourmet and were very impressed with her professionalism, customer service and knowledge. We selected The French Gourmet because of their exotic, tasty flavors and they were able to create our requested design within our budget. Our reception was at the Admiral Kidd Catering and Conference Center on a U.S. Naval Base. Trang was able to work with us to get all the required documentation for security on the base while not every vendor was able to meet these requirements with ease. On the day of the wedding the cake looked absolutely beautiful and tasted delicious. We had a four tiered cake with lemon, passion fruit and chocolate mousse flavors. All the guests thought the cake was delicious too and we received many compliments on it. Trang was able to honor her commitment to create a one year anniversary cake with white chocolate shavings in our flavor of choice for us. Just this past month as we celebrated our one year anniversary we enjoyed another 4" size passion fruit cake and it was just as delicious as the first time on our wedding day. We do not live in San Diego and so we really appreciated this special opportunity as we were not able to save and freeze the top tier for our anniversary. I highly recommend The French Gourmet for anyone looking for a wedding cake in San Diego.

The French Gourmet was my first stop for cake tasting and I instantly knew I had to book them. I also ordered a few desserts to include in our dessert table and received SO many compliments from my guests. Not to mention, Trang is fantastic and easy to work with. She listened to what I wanted and responded promptly to my emails whenever I had a question. I highly recommend to anyone who is looking to have exquisite cake or desserts at their wedding!

Michel, Renee and their team did an amazing job! The food was so tasteful, the set-up was perfect and the service was top notch! They were so accommodating and so available to discuss every single details before the ceremony... What we loved the most was all the creative ideas they were able to contribute to make the day perfect... and indeed it was...

I used The French Gourmet only for petit desserts. I already had a cake from another vendor, but wanted to add petit desserts to complete the dessert buffet. They were able to fulfill my order with short notice. The desserts were good and very pretty if you're concerned about the "look" of the desserts. I only ordered for about 35 guests, so they definitely will accommodate small or large orders. Definitely recommended.

We chose French Gourmet after visiting few other stores for our wedding cake. Trang was our consultant and she was great, we got what we wanted and cake tasted superb !

We interviewed 6 caterer's before choosing The French Gourmet to cater our wedding reception. They were the only ones who would provide Brisket with gravy, which we really wanted as one of the entrees. The food was amazingly good - we are still getting compliments about it three weeks later. Edith, the Catering Manager, was very attentive to our wishes and also gave us some good ideas which we incorporated into the reception. The service was also excellent. Edith and her staff are true professionals and the cost was in line with all the other estimates. We are very glad we chose The French Gourmet to cater our wedding reception.

The setting looked gorgeous. French Gourmet set up our vision perfectly! The food during both the cocktail hour as well as food stations at dinner was absolutely superb. Guests loved the mini quiches, the fresh fish, and the macaroni bar. Everyone is still raving about all of the food! French Gourmet staff were all very polite and kind. Especially Edith! She was so helpful, capable and provided us an amazing and memorable night. Would highly recommend working with French Gourmet on your wedding.

French Gourmet catered our daughter's Engagement Party. We could not have been happier. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with Michel Malecot, the owner. We appreciated his caring and thoughtful demeanor as well as his reliability and willingness to meet us all the way. Furthermore, we were absolutely delighted with the team he assigned to us. Our chef, Guy, and the rest of the crew were efficient, helpful and very friendly. The food was delicious and the presentation very elegant. I definitely recommend the French Gourmet.

The French Gourmet came through for us when we thought there was no hope left. We had tried countless caterers which all fell into one of two categories: Great food but too high of a price or great price but terrible food. We were feeling hopeless when, at last, we found The French Gourmet. We could immediately tell that Michel (pronounced like the female Michelle in English (he's really French! haha)) was a chef with a passion for food, and love, and life. He gave us a wonderful tasting of culinary delights and wine that made our palets and hearts soar. (It was the first time during this journey that I saw my fiance smile after tasting a caterers meat!) The experience from then on out was excellent. Michel communicated with us very well and worked with our personal needs and desires (including budget) to create the perfect menu. We did stretch the budget a bit but it was well worth it. On the day of the wedding the service was also excellent. We had tray-passed hors d' orves (still can't spell that darn word!) and a buffet dinner. The servers were on point, friendly and very professional. Even though everything got set back an hour due to transportation issues, they rolled with the punches and made it work. The food was delicious and we got numerous compliments on it from our guests. I would highly recommend the crepe station for dessert. It was an absolute hit. We are very thankful to the French Gourmet for helping to make our special day wonderfully unforgettable and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for experts in the field of catering and culinary art.

My husband and I had our wedding cake done by The French Gourmet and it was AWESOME! I was initially nervous to be restricted to pre-chosen bakeries by our venue package, but when we sat down at The French Gourmet with Trang, the wedding cake coordinator, I knew we had found the best place for us...and the best place for a wedding cake in San Diego! We went in with a design concept and Trang made it happen - the design surpassed my expectations and looked beautiful. Working with Trang was nothing but a pleasure - she was always prompt, responsive, considerate of our wants/needs, and dedicated to making sure the services they provided were top notch. Guests loved the cake as did we! We can't wait for our personal anniversary cake at the 1 year mark :)

Our wedding cake was all I dreamed of and more. It was so beautiful and it tasted delicious. We had the Strawberry Bagatelle and it was to die for!

We absolutely loved The French Gourmet from the taste testing till the big day!! Edith worked with us on what we exactly wanted cake, cost, buffet and all with a professional, loving attitude. We would use them again and again! We still get rave reviews on how good the food tasted at the wedding. Edith even brought my husband and I another serving of hot food to the bride and groom table for us because ours got clod from us dancing all night. The best was how they packed us a night cap of everything to taste for the wedding suite that night;) We have recommended them to many others already! Love, love , love that we went with TFG!

Our wedding cake was included in our package at our venue, and The French Gourmet was listed as one of 3 bakeries that provide cakes at our venue. I set up tastings at all 3 bakeries, but luckily our appointment at The French Gourmet was first! The cakes at our tasting were so good we immediately ordered our wedding cake, and canceled our other 2 appointments! We had great service the couple of times we contacted the bakery to change/confirm our cake size and design. We also had many guests tell us it was the best cake they had ever had at a wedding (instead of the gross cakes often served at weddings), and many people asked us which bakery we used!

The French Gourmet catered my wedding last month, and they did a fabulous job. The food was incredible and their service was outstanding. Everybody loved them! We had a great experience with them from start to finish. Delicious tasting before we booked them, attention to detail, gourmet quality, and they really worked with us to stay within our budget. Highly recommend using the French Gourmet for catering! We loved Orsika!

Loved our wedding cake! Delicious and exceeded our expectations!

My cake from the French Gourmet was great in taste, but ok in appearance. We had it custom designed (which costed extra) but they didn't follow our design pattern or meet our expectations. Despite the fact that we had numerous meeting with them, brought pictures, color samples, etc. A little disappointed but overall not a big deal.

We ordered 4 different smaller cakes instead of a wedding cake. They were FANTASTIC!!!

French Gourmet service and food was fantastic. We had many compliments about the food and how unique it was. We didn't have to worry about a thing!

Orsika was a big help throughout the planning process and did a great job with her staff on the day of the wedding. Everyone enjoyed their food and the staff took care to make sure my bridesmaids and I had water and appetizers while getting ready and the vendors ate as well. Everyone complimented the wedding cake - we didn't have any left!

We loved our 3-tier cake and cookie favors from TFG. Jenny Austria was very helpful, and we liked the flavors and value!

food was the most important item for us, and french gourmet did not disappoint. we are still getting compliments on the food. our tastings were so much fun and the staff is great to work with. they are like a small, french family! they will customize whatever you want, the possibilities are endless! they are on the pricier side, but i think the quality of the food and serve was worth it.

We were so excited about our cake. I found a magazine photo of a design and the baker designed a perfect replica. We did a combination of their delicious cheesecake and a white cake (for stability). The exterior was decorated with a tasty sweet white fondant rolled in waves up the cake and had gold edging. I could have eaten so much more of it! Excited for the one year anniversary cake.

Both cakes were beautiful and lasted all day.

Our cake was amazing! We met with Isabelle and cake tasted and showed her pictures of what we wanted. So fun and easy! We picked our 2 flavors - strawberry bagatelle (for him) and chocolate mousse (for me). It was delicious, the cake was gorgeous and exactly what I wanted. We had a TON of cake leftover, so consider ordering down.

We went with the traditional french wedding cake, a tower of cream puffs. It was amazing and very beautiful and tasted great

The French Gourmet did an excellent job with my 3 tiered wedding cake. The design was simple and beautiful but most importantly the cake was delicious. They were easy to work with and allowed us to come back for a second tasting to help make our decision. Also, priced well!

The French Gourmet was one of the vendors included in our Bahia package - and they were by far the best option for the wedding cake they had. While some of the other places we checked out had maybe four or five options for flavors - we had... must have been a dozen or more! Their chocolate millennium cake is AMAZING. We had that for our bottom tier. So moist, and just wonderful. We had concerns about their lemon buttercream being too much lemon, and they gladly replaced the buttercream in it with normal buttercream, and it turned out fabulous. And their Red Velvet. THE BEST Red Velvet I've had - hands down. The tasting and ironing out the details went flawlessly - even with a 3 year old (as three year old's and cake can tend to get a little crazy). I believe everyone was satisfied, and the decor that they provided was just what I wanted.

The French Gourmet did a fantastic job with my wedding cake! They were very friendly and accommodated all my wishes. We went in for our cake appointment and they served us with samples of every flavor of cake they had to choose from (about 12!) Each one was better than the next, it was difficult to chose a favorite, so we ended up choosing 3 flavors! To save some money, we decided to do a smaller 3 tier cake (each tier a different flavor) for the official cake-cutting at the reception, and then ordered a full sheet cake in 2 of the flavors from the tiered cake. (1/2 and 1/2). The cake was beautifully decorated and our guests couldn't stop talking about how delicious and moist the cake was! We will definitely recommend The French Gourmet to anyone who needs a specialty cake! (We also had an opportunity to have lunch in their restaurant and the food is wonderful!)

Our cake was beautifully decorated with white chocolate shavings that resembled rose petals. We ended up going with the red velvet and were pleasantly surprised on well it turned out. Absolutely the best red velvet cake ever tasted! Their staff were VERY friendly and helpful.

We were down to the wire and had gotten so busy with wedding planning that we forgot to order a cake! And we called The French Gourmet 2 weeks before our wedding and they were able to make a cake for us!! We were referred to them by several other people and I will continue the referral chain! Their customer service was fantastic! And the cake was delivered on time and was just gorgeous and delicious!!!! Everyone was commenting on how beautiful it was and then once they got to eat it, the cake was gone in no time!! It was perfect!!

We used the French Gourmet for our caterer, cake, and also for table/chair/linens/etc. rentals for our wedding and they were absolutely AMAZING!! The food was so tasty and our guests could not stop talking about how delicious it was. The service was excellent. Edith from French Gourmet has an amazing vision and was so prompt in responding to our inquiries and made our wedding day even more special. The cake was so delicious and the presentation was beautiful. They took care of us and all our guests all evening long. We loved the French Gourmet so much that we even had our rehearsal dinner at their restaurant and they did a fabulous job and excel in service and their food. We loved them and recommend them to everyone, they made our special day flow with ease and made our taste buds very happy :)

BEAUTIFUL AND DELICIOUS!

My wedding was at the Catamaran Resort, and they contract their brownies with The French Gourmet. We provided our guests brownies (instead of cake), and while the brownies were good, they were nothing spectacular. Maybe their cakes are different, but with all of the hype, I expected more from The French Gourmet.

Our wedding cake was made of strawberries and cream! It was amazing! It came as part of our catering package, so I can't comment on the price, but the quality was phenomenal. We had so many cakes to choose from at our tasting that were amazing, we probably couldn't have gone wrong with any of them. We would definintley recomment The French Gourmet for your wedding cake!

Loved the beautiful cake, they designed it exactly how I wanted it to look, like luggage. Tasted great and done very well and professionally.
