From start to finish The Grays answered all our questions, were easy to get a hold of, and had excellent communication. It was Red Friday on the plaza (I'm not a Chiefs fan) so Phil made sure to keep us away from all the red! We are so lucky to have met Briana and Phil and have got to known them through our wedding process. They are such a cool couple and have gave us camping recommendations as well. I loved getting to know them and hope to keep in touch. We will definitely use them again!

lling to tailor our package since we had already gotten our engagement photos done with someone else (we live in LA, wedding was in Lawrence KS). Leading up to the big day, they kept in contact with us about the timeline and helped us decide which combinations of family/friends we really wanted to capture - something I hadn't really thought of until they mentioned making a list. We got to meet in person a few months before the wedding, and they provided some drinks/snacks, which made for a fun, relaxed atmosphere. On our wedding day, they arrived right on time and really did a great job of being present for all those great little moments but not in the way. We made a last-minute change in location for the wedding party photos because we didn't have enough transportation for everyone, and they totally made it work. For the creative photos, Briana did such an amazing job of helping us achieve those natural poses without looking uncomfortable. Phil was super sweet as well, and kept the mood light and fun. Even though the day was hectic, Grays Photography never made us feel rushed. They stayed almost until the end of the reception, and got so many lovely, candid (and some really funny) photos of our guests. And of course, plenty of my husband and me! The turnaround time was super quick as well. We were not in any hurry, but I was so surprised and excited to know that our photos were ready about 3 and a half weeks later! Some of my married friends have said it took their photographers months to send the final pictures. And there were several hundred to look through, so plenty of great material to choose from for framing, Facebook, thank you cards, and sending to relatives, etc. I highly recommend Briana and Phil of Grays Photography. Not only were they great to work with, they seem to be such wonderful, loving people. We are still FB friends and follow each other on Instagram to this day!

o me to pick someone that wouldn't give me shots like every other photographer, and to come away with that "one" shot that just blew me away. Briana and Phil succeeded for both. (and gave me MANY shots that blew me away!) We ended up hiring them again for our wedding reception, and again - I can't say anything but good things about them. They even came early to take family shots at my request - and then didn't say a single negative word when our family arrived late and weren't exactly cooperating at getting together. They made the entire event stress-free and fun. They fit right in with the guests so that we hardly even knew they were there - and yet we came away with amazing photos from the event. We have now hired them to take our newborn photos for our son due this week, and can't wait for the session! Briana and Phil just really make everything so easy and relaxing, which is needed when planning such an important event. Plus, they are super FUN - and I love how they interact with each other and guests - which makes the personality that comes out in the photos so genuine and bright.

le husband and wife team, to the engraved wooden box and matching USB flash drive we received in the mail today, they are the absolute BEST photographers out there. Briana and Phil take into consideration and listen to every single detail and request and off the wall idea you have. They are wonderful. My husband and I really are passionate about photography and it was quite hard to hone in on a photographer for the big day. We saw Shades of Gray's website initially, yet didn't contact them because we assumed they would be way out of our price range. Lucky for us... they weren't!!! Please do not be afraid or intimidated to contact them because of the stunning quality of their work. You will be so glad you did. When we eventually did contact them were almost certain they would be booked already. Briana emailed us back immediately on a Saturday morning and offered a phone consultation within the hour (seriously!) to run our ideas by her and see what she (and her husband) were all about. She also said that they happened to have that ONE weekend open for our wedding! My husband, who is typically quite hard to persuade, was sold within the first couple of minutes in speaking with Briana (enough to suggest we upgrade to include an engagement photo session!) We initially met inside Union Station over Thanksgiving weekend for our engagement shoot where I initially felt nervous and somewhat shy... they were so great at helping Jason and me to relax and be ourselves. We headed to the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art (which initially I had nixed because I felt so many couples had taken photos there; or so it seemed).. Briana and Phil found unique little niches and spots that I'd never thought of before as well as completely embraced the idea we had of photographing by the Bloch building to see the glow at dusk... after I thought I would freeze to death (we were all frozen) spending about 45 minutes in the crisped wind chill of late fall..but, they gave us a pep talk and suggested we hop into our cars until after sunset.. all to capture some of our FAVORITE and most memorable shots!! We absolutely adore Briana and Phil and still chat with them occasionally to this day.

The pictures were absolutely amazing. They told the story of our day and really captured little moments that I didn't even realize had happened but I so enjoyed reviewing after. However, I do believe there are a lot of good photographers out there. So picking a photographer is even more than just the good pictures they can shoot. Phil and Briana took such care in every little aspect. They were so professional and took such pride in the little details of their company. I have heard horror stories of people who were so disappointed with their wedding pictures. We were so blessed by Shades of Gray. The day happens to fast and I treasure these pictures to help me relive the day. And they are awesome people so we made some friends along the way!

Between each stop we also had fun photos taken on our trolley to capture a lot of behind the scenes moments. We made a stop at the Cashew for a drink and more photos. Overall, I can't say enough about Briana and her team, we appreciate everything they did and love the finished products from our wedding. After meeting with Briana, I knew that I had found the person I wanted to capture our special day. It is no easy feat to command the attention of a group, but she managed it with ease. Her work is classic, yet cutting edge. Her passion for photography, family, and friends is clearly evident in her work. She listened to all of our feedback and worries and delivered a great service. We had tons of fun during our engagement shoot and wedding day despite wind and threatening weather. She kept me at ease during all of my bridal craziness. Her partner for the day, Logan, and her husband Phil were equally wonderful...even running to a local store to grab us a needed item. Finally, our photos turned out amazing! on our wedding day. On the wedding day, she was flexible with her timing, made sure we got all of the shots we wanted, and brought 2 people (instead of the 1 agreed on) to help her during the day. The pictures turned out amazing. We got so many compliments on how unique they were and how professional they seemed. We also got them back very quickly, which I know can be a problem with some photographers. Briana was professional and very very kind! She made me and the groom feel very comfortable from the beginning. Her packages were a great value when I compared them to other Kansas City photographers and I will definitely be using her again when we want baby photos!

Finally, the very next day we received sneak peak photos, and all of the photos less than a month after the big day. She was so prompt and did AMAZING work. ALSO: I have been to weddings where the photographer is very intrusive and is running up and down aisles and makes a big scene of things. Well Briana is not that. I specifically asked a good friend (who is brutally honest) if that was what happened at our wedding, and she said she didn't even notice the photographers. We got beautiful pictures from the ceremony and reception, without them creating a big scene. You will not be disappointed if you go with Shades of Gray!

a camera, but when we first met with Briana she made me feel so comfortable I knew she was the right choice. I was absolutely amazed at how well our engagement pictures turned out. I loved them all and couldn’t believe how beautiful she made me look; I have never seen pictures of me that looked like that. The wedding pictures were even better. The day of the wedding a tornado warning was issued just minutes before our ceremony, we had to start the ceremony early and make some adjustments to the picture taking schedule. Briana was so flexible and adaptable. The pictures ended up beautiful, rain and all.

ome exceptionally stressful wedding planning. When we met with Briana and Nick at the initial meeting to see if we wanted to enlist their services, we told them our basic sequence of events for the wedding: the locations of the ceremony and reception, and the number of guests we were expecting, almost half-expecting to scare them off. They didn't even bat an eye. On the contrary, they were excited to shoot our wedding, as the level of shenanigans and jackassery would be something worthy of catching on camera. They gave us ample opportunity to look over their work and were more than willing to hear what we wanted as far as certain styles or "feels". Most photographers that we met with in the KC area shot things their way and that was it. Briana and her crew were more than happy to hear how we wanted things done for our day. The day of the wedding couldn't have gone better with regards to the photography. Nick and Annawere sure to give us strict timelines for family to arrive at the church so that we didnt have any stragglers holding up the show, and the photographers themselves were prompt and to-the-minute with everything. The photos at the front of the church are by far the most stressful part of the whole day (aside from the whole getting married part). Families are all talking loud, not paying attention, and wandering all over the place, so when the time comes for a certain shot (i.e. Maternal Grandparents and Groom), they are nowhere to be found. I gave Nick pseudo-martial law over our families. "Holler, yell, curse, etc., do what you need to do to wrangle these people in so we can stay on track with regards to time," I said. He was perfect. At certain points we were even ahead of schedule, which I understand is a rare thing when it comes to weddings. A group of photographers that can keep relative control over a guest list of 350-400 loud Irish/Italian Catholics, and have the stones to tell them to be quiet, stand up straight, and smile, deserves all the credit in the world. After the ceremony was a breeze...Nick and Anna got some great shots inside the church, as well as outside in the gardens/stone walkways. We were also able to hit all of the spots that my wife and I wanted to go prior to having to head to the reception. Lea (wife) and I made it clear that we didn't want pictures of us looking off into the sunset, or any of that hokey crap. We wanted pictures that captured us as "us"...loud, comical, snarky, etc. They were able to do just that. Honestly, I cant say enough good things about this group. The level of expertise, professionalism, and willingness to adjust/accomodate was perfect for what we needed. I plan to hire them without second thought when Lea and I decide to have kids and need to get all those pics done. They are, without a doubt, the best photographers we interviewed in KC and had the best protfolio of anyone else we viewed. I wont say they are the cheapest, because they arent. But this isnt the kind of thing you want to skimp on. Thank you so much again to Briana, Nick and Anna. You guys helped make the day great and were able to capture it all on film. You are wonderful!

all since we had a Spring wedding to capture the two different seasons. We had engagement pictures taken at the River Market and at the West Bottoms in KC and both settings turned out great. We were so happy with our pictures that we used them as both our Save the Date cards and our Table Numbers. Briana was great at providing direction and capturing creative angles and shots that we loved. For our big day we chose the 10 hour package which worked out perfectly! Briana is great at capturing all the little details of the day that may have been overlooked or forgotten. We ended up with a beautiful 70 degree day in April so we decided to have pictures taken at Kauffman Gardens and the West Bottoms. Briana captured the bright colors in Kauffman Gardens and our pictures are AMAZING!! My husband and I loved every minute spent with Briana and are already working on scheduling a 'Trash the Dress' photoshoot! I definitely recommend Shades of Gray to everyone! She offers personalized service to all of her couples at a very affordable price!
