There are lots of businesses that can handle the technical aspects of well-lit exterior and dark interior settings, there are many that can find those little moments and assemble a portfolio from across many events that will impress.
But when it’s your kid, on her special day, and you know all the ways things can go wrong? When you want to enjoy the day and not worry about the thing you’re an expert in? With two self-conscious brides, would they be comfortable? That’s when you hire Katye and Joe.

We have history, we have cameras, we have a height difference. We think two heads are better than one, four eyes are better than two.
You're probably here because you're excited about your photography. You're looking for pictures that will recall moments – something beautiful, and maybe a little off-beat. You’re looking for photographers who value originality.
The best way we can describe our work is artistic journalism. Authentic meets creative. We are a married photo duo who both began our careers as news photographers, and have more than three decades of experience as photojournalists. Observing people, telling their stories, and anticipating moments is in our muscle memory.

I felt overwhelmed. I found The Happy Couple’s website and my husband and I were immediately struck by their knack for capturing emotion and small moments between people. Their work was beautiful and moving. It made us laugh and made us feel, so we knew they were the ones. From our first meeting on Zoom I felt even more assured- they are both so kind and easy to talk to. I also was a bride who did not have a clear idea from the jump of what I wanted, and they were fine with that. As my ideas evolved over time I was easily able to update them and communicate with them. Joe and I talked on the phone a couple more times as the day got closer and he helped me iron out so many details I had not even considered. I had a few shots that were very important to me that I mentioned and when I got my photos back, sure enough they had remembered and done everything I asked for. Upon seeing my photos, one of my friends said “wow, your photographers didn’t miss a moment.” We are in love with all of the pictures. Just so happy. People keep telling us the pictures should be in a magazine. That is because Joe and Katye did such a great job. They are awesome! Thank you Katye & Joe!

From the beginning planning process, to understanding what we needed to do (basically just show up and have fun)/provide (e.g. photo lists), to keeping us relaxed and having fun throughout our day, they kept us at ease. As we received our photos back we were just blown away - they produced a stunning product. As one of our guests said, "Honestly they might be the best wedding photos I've seen...so much emotion caught in every photo. Insane how well they caught each person's energy." They even helped us look for new photo locations when our original location fell through. On the day of our wedding, they were professional and followed all safety precautions. They were prepared and great working with all the craziness the day threw at us, including a rainy outdoor photo shoot.
We loved all the pictures of our big day that they shared with us. Both our preview photos and the entire album of photos were sent to us earlier than we expected. Having two photographers was great because we feel like they caught each special moment of day. We couldn't have asked for better photographers!

We spoke with Katye and Joe quite a few times prior to our wedding. They really wanted to get to know us, who we were as a couple and what we were hoping for. They asked us thoughtful questions and put us at ease.
The day of our wedding it was wonderful having two photographers. They were able to capture special moments between us and our family and friends from all different angles around the venue. The most important thing we wanted was candid photos capturing special moments, and they delivered on this 10X over! We look back on our photos with such happiness. se of the entire process. Initially, my wife and I video-chatted with Joe and were impressed by how kind and knowledgeable he was. He walked us through expectations for a wedding of our size while also taking the time to get to know us as a couple. The conversation made such an impression on us because other photographers that we had spoken to had not been nearly as personable and professional.
Right before the wedding, we spoke with Joe about how we envisioned our wedding unfolding. He was so helpful in shaping our day, helping us zero in on the flow of the day and the exact kind of portraits/candids that we wanted captured. And, on the actual wedding day, Joe and Kayte took excellent pictures without being at all intrusive. Looking at some of our pictures, there are moments captured that we’ll treasure forever, and my wife and I don’t at all remember Joe or Kayte being in our vicinity.
The photos from our wedding have been our absolute favorite keepsake. Sharing them with our family and friends has allowed us to relive the best day of our lives. We could not have asked for a better experience with photographers. The Happy Couple have our highest recommendation

e this team! We met Joe nearly two years ago when we were planning our September 2019 wedding in Boston. We were impressed with his work and loved the vibrant colors and unique detailed shots his portfolio included.
We were in a bit of a unique situation because we were living abroad, but planning our wedding for Boston. Joe was extremely flexible, worked around our schedule, and worked around the time difference. We had our engagement photos in Boston in July 2018 and fell in love with his work all over again. Joe is great to work with, he's funny, kind, and patient. We couldn't wait to see what he could do at our wedding.
Fast forward to September 2019, Joe worked out all the timeline details with us to ensure the wedding day ran smoothly, and even threw in some buffer time in case something ran long. Joe and his wife Katye ran around seamlessly for 8 hours capturing our perfect day. From the detailed shots of our rings, vow books, decorations and attire, to the portraits in the Garden and everything in between, Joe and Katye did an outstanding job.
We received a sneak peek shortly after the wedding and were instantly in love and relived our perfect day. When we received the full portfolio - all in color and in black and white - we were blown away. The pictures are incredible! We've already recommended the Happy Couple to our friends and plan to use them for future life events. Thank you, Joe and Katye!

Katye and Joe's backgrounds in photojournalism really drew me in. It was important to me that our photographer capture all of the special moments of the day that might otherwise go unnoticed or forgotten. I also wanted real, beautiful, and timeless photos that didn't rely on post-processing or Instagram-like enhancements. Katye and Joe delivered beautifully on both fronts. We will always cherish the special shots of us as a couple, as well as all of the magical candids of our family and friends.
Joe and Katye also capture beautiful portraits and were very skilled at corralling our large families and wedding party to quickly and painlessly capture these more traditional shots. Much appreciated!

oint! From the very beginning, they were very easy to work with and thought of every detail. They made sure we had everything (portrait list, location of photos, etc.) in order ahead of time so the wedding day would run smoothly. We really wanted outdoor photos but it was a flash flood the day of the wedding. Because of Katye & Joe's planning and experience in DC, we were still able to get some really cool photos outside! They brought a clear umbrella for us to use and suggested the perfect backup location that was still outside but covered. We absolutely love the wedding photos -- they capture our day perfectly! We also got our wedding photos back very quickly! We had all the photos back within one month of the wedding.

As for our wedding, the photos are unbelievable. They captured the most amazing moments and are true magicians when working with natural light. We have so many gorgeous photos from our sunset shoot. They also did such a great job keeping the photos moving so that family members didn't dominate and our wedding party didn't get cranky! They also responded to questions promptly and turned the photos around very quickly.

Joe. His photojournalistic style was exactly what we were looking for and the photos came out absolutely amazing (and I come from a photography background, so I'm picky!). There was a great balance of candids and posed shots. I never felt that the taking pictures part distracted me from the actual wedding. And I couldn't believe how many photos my husband actually liked! He HATES having his photo taken.
My only wish is that we also could have hired Katye to have even more memories beautifully captured.

Before the big day they took the time to video Skype with us...
about what we wanted, then sent us some options to get a better sense of what we liked and didn't like. They also worked with us on identifying the best first look location and modifying our family shot list to fit the schedule.
On the wedding day, Joe went to my husband's getting ready place and Katye came to me. Both made themselves invisible while still capturing some of the most spontaneous and lively shots before the ceremony. For our first look, Katye and Joe worked together to get the perfect angles, helped us look natural (needed!) and offered suggestions on how quickly to walk/twirl, where to look, etc. My favorite part of hiring these two is that they made us laugh. They were our friends by the end of the night.
The photo turnaround time was helped by the fact that they sent over a sneak peek about a week after the wedding. Such a great way to show off some photos to family and friends immediately. The final album was a full set of all color and a full set of black and white. We were overjoyed with the photos and will treasure them forever.

And throughout the night they both captured so many little moments I didn't even know was happening until I saw the pictures. They are so stealth that most people didn't know we had 2 photographers! They are awesome at capturing the candid emotion filled pictures. Something would happen and I would turn around and they were there to capture it, but never in the way. I highly recommend them! I would have made a little more of an extensive shot list for them. I wish I had a few pictures of just myself, the bride posed, but since it didn't happen in real time and wasn't on my shot list it was skipped. But it was partially me forgetting. They also give you duel rights to the photos, so you get all your photos on a DVD and can use them however you want. I just love the endless options this gives me. Thank you so much Joe and Katy for capturing our memories in a way we can remember each moment forever.
