The Happy Couple Photography

We absolutely loved working with The Happy Couple! We were married in November 2020 and so many of our wedding plans changed due to COVID-19. Joe and Katye were wonderful every step of the way. They were very supportive and understanding of each new iteration of the wedding we shared with them. They even helped us look for new photo locations when our original location fell through. On the day of our wedding, they were professional and followed all safety precautions. They were prepared and great working with all the craziness the day threw at us, including a rainy outdoor photo shoot. We loved all the pictures of our big day that they shared with us. Both our preview photos and the entire album of photos were sent to us earlier than we expected. Having two photographers was great because we feel like they caught each special moment of day. We couldn't have asked for better photographers!

This review is long overdue! My wife and I got married outside of Newburyport in February, 2020 right before COVID-19 came to Boston. We had an amazing experience working with Katye and Joe. Our biggest priority is that we wanted to feel at ease with our photographers, and we were looking for photographers who had captured diverse weddings and diverse couples. Based on the photos we saw of past weddings The Happy Couple had photographed we knew we had found the right people! We spoke with Katye and Joe quite a few times prior to our wedding. They really wanted to get to know us, who we were as a couple and what we were hoping for. They asked us thoughtful questions and put us at ease. The day of our wedding it was wonderful having two photographers. They were able to capture special moments between us and our family and friends from all different angles around the venue. The most important thing we wanted was candid photos capturing special moments, and they delivered on this 10X over! We look back on our photos with such happiness. Katye and Joe were a dream to work with. We had to adjust our wedding plans quite a bit in response to COVID and could not have asked for a pair of more talented, flexible, and experienced photographers. Most of the day took place on a 50' boat at sea and Katye and Joe really rose to the challenge of shooting in such an unconventional venue, delivering so many beautiful, authentic, and creative shots. They are a fantastic team. We couldn't be more pleased or recommend them enough!

The Happy Couple (Joe and Kayte) were incredibly easy to work with. From the time we started looking for photographers until delivery of the final photos, we were struck by the ease of the entire process. Initially, my wife and I video-chatted with Joe and were impressed by how kind and knowledgeable he was. He walked us through expectations for a wedding of our size while also taking the time to get to know us as a couple. The conversation made such an impression on us because other photographers that we had spoken to had not been nearly as personable and professional. Right before the wedding, we spoke with Joe about how we envisioned our wedding unfolding. He was so helpful in shaping our day, helping us zero in on the flow of the day and the exact kind of portraits/candids that we wanted captured. And, on the actual wedding day, Joe and Kayte took excellent pictures without being at all intrusive. Looking at some of our pictures, there are moments captured that we’ll treasure forever, and my wife and I don’t at all remember Joe or Kayte being in our vicinity. The photos from our wedding have been our absolute favorite keepsake. Sharing them with our family and friends has allowed us to relive the best day of our lives. We love Joe and Katye Brier! When my husband and I started planning our wedding, we decided our must have was an amazing photography team - with two photographers. Joe and Katye are this team! We met Joe nearly two years ago when we were planning our September 2019 wedding in Boston. We were impressed with his work and loved the vibrant colors and unique detailed shots his portfolio included.  We were in a bit of a unique situation because we were living abroad, but planning our wedding for Boston. Joe was extremely flexible, worked around our schedule, and worked around the time difference. We had our engagement photos in Boston in July 2018 and fell in love with his work all over again. Joe is great to work with, he's funny, kind, and patient. We couldn't wait to see what he could do at our wedding.  Fast forward to September 2019, Joe worked out all the timeline details with us to ensure the wedding day ran smoothly, and even threw in some buffer time in case something ran long. Joe and his wife Katye ran around seamlessly for 8 hours capturing our perfect day. From the detailed shots of our rings, vow books, decorations and attire, to the portraits in the Garden and everything in between, Joe and Katye did an outstanding job.  We received a sneak peek shortly after the wedding and were instantly in love and relived our perfect day. When we received the full portfolio - all in color and in black and white - we were blown away. The pictures are incredible! We've already recommended the Happy Couple to our friends and plan to use them for future life events. Thank you, Joe and Katye!

Joe and Katye are simply the best. They were a pleasure to work with from the first phone call. We are so pleased with our wedding photos --- we relive the day every time we look at them! Katye and Joe's backgrounds in photojournalism really drew me in. It was important to me that our photographer capture all of the special moments of the day that might otherwise go unnoticed or forgotten. I also wanted real, beautiful, and timeless photos that didn't rely on post-processing or Instagram-like enhancements. Katye and Joe delivered beautifully on both fronts. The Happy Couple are so amazing at what they do! They are wonderful to work with, easy going and knowledgeable but professional! Such incredible candid photos of such a monumental day! They are able to give direction when needed but all the best simple moments are where they shine!

Choosing a wedding photographer is a daunting task, but we absolutely made the perfect choice picking The Happy Couple! We were lucky enough to have an engagement shoot, our wedding, and then a second reception all shot by the Happy Couple - and the pictures are flawless. Joe and Katye are amazing to work with and have the ability to capture every special moment with an artistic eye. What they do with natural lighting and contrast is unbeatable and it makes for photos that are not only beautiful, but are art pieces. All the photos we received will be forever treasured. Hiring Joe and Katye is the best decision you will make for your wedding day. When they say they are photojournalists, that is an understatement. The photos they took at our wedding are so beautiful and artistic that it's almost as if you can reach out and touch the moment. We chose the Happy Couple as photographers for our wedding because we wanted more candid shots that captured the emotions of the day, rather than staged photos. They did not disappoint! From the very beginning, they were very easy to work with and thought of every detail. They made sure we had everything (portrait list, location of photos, etc.) in order ahead of time so the wedding day would run smoothly. We really wanted outdoor photos but it was a flash flood the day of the wedding. Because of Katye & Joe's planning and experience in DC, we were still able to get some really cool photos outside! They brought a clear umbrella for us to use and suggested the perfect backup location that was still outside but covered. We absolutely love the wedding photos -- they capture our day perfectly! We also got our wedding photos back very quickly! We had all the photos back within one month of the wedding.

We loved Joe and Katye! They are fabulous to work with and very talented. Their attention to detail and ability to capture those candid moments really are amazing and make for great memories! They're so good that you don't even realize they are there catching those moments! Thank you guys for capturing our favorite day ever :) We wouldn't have chosen anyone else.

I wish I could give Joe & Katye more than 5 stars! They are truly everything you could ever want in a wedding photographer. From there very beginning, they explained what we should expect, the timelines, the details. They captured all the traditional shots, and all the moments that I didn't even know happened. I have wedding guests still complimenting the incredible photos and I feel like I'm reliving my wedding day every time I scan through the album. If you're still looking for photographers and you're unsure, talk to Joe & Katye. Aside from marrying my husband, they were the best decision I made for our wedding day!

Joe and Katye are amazing! Joe and I spoke on the phone a few times before the wedding, and I felt like he really understood what I was looking for. They were so flexible in accommodating all the pictures we wanted. My guests had a blast with the photo booth they set up, too! Originally, my husband wasn't super excited about even the idea of hiring a photographer since he has a hard time posing for photos; I picked Katye and Joe because their portfolio was full of great candid shots. I recently overheard my husband highly recommending their services to a friend who's getting married soon, and I feel like his complete about-face on the subject of photos of our wedding says it all!

Working with Joe & Katy was absolutely wonderful. They arrived perfectly on time, ready to go, and appealed to absolutely everything we asked for. Our vibe was more of a relaxed, yet elegant and rustic Wedding, and they captured the very essence of it as we wanted. We asked for a lot of "in the moment" pictures, along with some cool statement pictures of the decor, the style, and the general theme of the day. They nailed it to a T. If you're looking for some amazing, quality pictures that will help you tell the whole story of your day, I highly recommend working with these guys!!

We had such a fantastic experience working with Joe and Katye! We did an Engagement Shoot with them in March and the pictures were absolutely stunning and they did such a nice job making what can be a semi-awkward photo shoot fun! As for our wedding, the photos are unbelievable. They captured the most amazing moments and are true magicians when working with natural light. We have so many gorgeous photos from our sunset shoot. They also did such a great job keeping the photos moving so that family members didn't dominate and our wedding party didn't get cranky! They also responded to questions promptly and turned the photos around very quickly. I would highly recommend working with Joe and Katye and would hire them again given the opportunity!

Simply put, Joe is just amazing! Looking at the proofs proves what a true talent he has. In preparing for the wedding, he was very professional, quick to respond, and has a great personality. We truly could not be any happier with our wedding day experience with Joe and how incredible the photos came out to capture our special day!

We loved Joe and Katye as part of our wedding day, and they produced beautiful pics. Was involved with the dress designer’s special after the fact and had some administrative/business frustrations and were regretfully not allowed to use our photographs. Would recommend the Happy Couple for couples looking for beautiful shots, but not if you wish to submit them in any forum after the fact. Minor detail and irrelevant in most cases, but should be noted due to our frustrations. Other than that, they are a pleasure to work with and we are very happy with pics!

Looking at the pictures is probably proof enough to learn the amazingness of The Happy Couple, but we want to make sure we gave you our thoughts as well! They do not simply take pictures, they capture elements, personalities and intimacy. Through the process of getting to know you as a couple, Joe and Katye learn who you are, how you interact and the idiosyncrasies that create the foundation of your relationship, and display your essence through their photojournalistic approach. When looking through your album, you will notice the tiny moments, gestures, smiles, embraces, laughs, funny faces that are caught and woven together, as you relive every emotion of the day. Thank you so much Katye and Joe for your incredible talent, kindness and support. We are forever grateful!

Joe and Katye were such a pleasure to work with and took away all the stress of getting those perfect shots you dream about on your wedding day. I had some ideas of pictures I wanted to be sure to capture and they were happy to take my shot list. They also got amazing, unique photos that I never even thought about! It rained on our wedding day which made me nervous about photos but Joe and Katye still got some truly beautiful shots of us and assured me that they had a total handle on the situation, rain or shine! They were so flexible with the weather and I'm so glad we had their expertise. I'm glad we booked both of them because they got separate photos of my husband and I getting ready which was worth a lot to us. Joe and Katye are also incredibly professional and warm. They listened to the vibe I was going for and made sure we were on the same page throughout the entire planning process. There were frequent check-ins and whenever I emailed them with a random question or concern, they were quick to respond. I hardly noticed Joe and Katye on the actual wedding day because they were non-intrusive and professional. I would totally recommend them to anyone looking for talented and experienced photographers. Their shots captured feelings from my wedding day that I can't put into words and that in itself is worth everything!

My new husband and I hired Joe to be our photographer for the wedding day. Having professional photos was THE most important splurge for us, and we definitely didn't go wrong with Joe. His photojournalistic style was exactly what we were looking for and the photos came out absolutely amazing (and I come from a photography background, so I'm picky!). There was a great balance of candids and posed shots. I never felt that the taking pictures part distracted me from the actual wedding. And I couldn't believe how many photos my husband actually liked! He HATES having his photo taken. My only wish is that we also could have hired Katye to have even more memories beautifully captured.

To say Joe and Katye are amazingly awesome would be doing them a disservice, because they are so much more than that. Before the big day they took the time to video Skype with us about what we wanted, then sent us some options to get a better sense of what we liked and didn't like. They also worked with us on identifying the best first look location and modifying our family shot list to fit the schedule. On the wedding day, Joe went to my husband's getting ready place and Katye came to me. Both made themselves invisible while still capturing some of the most spontaneous and lively shots before the ceremony. For our first look, Katye and Joe worked together to get the perfect angles, helped us look natural (needed!) and offered suggestions on how quickly to walk/twirl, where to look, etc. My favorite part of hiring these two is that they made us laugh. They were our friends by the end of the night. The photo turnaround time was helped by the fact that they sent over a sneak peek about a week after the wedding. Such a great way to show off some photos to family and friends immediately. The final album was a full set of all color and a full set of black and white. We were overjoyed with the photos and will treasure them forever. Hire them.

If there were 6 stars I would give them. Joe and Katye (The Happy Couple) did a wonderful job of catching both the big moments and the little moments of our wedding. Their ability to capture everything about "the moment" is incredible, and why we chose them. What I told Joe directly - "You have brought the entire day and incredible experience back for us, which is all I could hope for my wedding pictures. What you two do - capturing the spirit and emotion of the day - is so special and important, and I will have these photos to cherish forever. That is truly priceless."

We worked with Joe for our engagement and wedding photos. I was immediately a fan of The Happy Couple's work as I was doing my research on photographers, and I was so happy Joe was available on our May wedding date. Joe was super easy to work with, and had an organized process for everything. And not only were our pictures beautiful, but we got them back in record time! We also appreciated the picture hosting site and format they use to share and distribute our photos. We are so happy Joe was able to capture beautiful pictures on our special day!

We do not have our final photos as yet - however, our "sneak peek" photos are fantastic, and I greatly enjoyed our Photographer all of the times I interacted with him. He responded to questions promptly, did exactly what he said he was going to do, and after my mother requested a "shot-list" he was very dedicated to making sure we got a picture of all the groups we wanted. I hope he had as good a time photographing us, and we had being photographed, and the candid of my father and I pre-ceremony will be framed ASAP :)

Joe and Katy were fabulous in so many different ways. To start with they are so nice and easy to work with. Katy was at my parents house before the wedding to take pictures of the girls and Joe was with the boys. It was so great. She put my shoes in my childhood doll house and took pictures which was so meaningful and special. And throughout the night they both captured so many little moments I didn't even know was happening until I saw the pictures. They are so stealth that most people didn't know we had 2 photographers! They are awesome at capturing the candid emotion filled pictures. Something would happen and I would turn around and they were there to capture it, but never in the way. I highly recommend them! I would have made a little more of an extensive shot list for them. I wish I had a few pictures of just myself, the bride posed, but since it didn't happen in real time and wasn't on my shot list it was skipped. But it was partially me forgetting. They also give you duel rights to the photos, so you get all your photos on a DVD and can use them however you want. I just love the endless options this gives me. Thank you so much Joe and Katy for capturing our memories in a way we can remember each moment forever.

Joe & Kayte Brier are absolutely amazing. You won't even know they are there taking pictures, but they don't miss a thing! Worth EVERY penny!!

Joe and Katye of The Happy Couple are WONDERFUL!! Not only are they easy to work with, but they are two of the most talented photographers I've seen! Joe is the main photography, and Katye acts as the second photographer if the Bride and Groom wish to hire two...which we did. They each have their own styles and compliment each other perfectly. While Joe is take the posed shots, Katye is concentrating on details and candids...together they create a complete story of your day! We (and our guests) were unaware of either photographers the entire day, but the 800+ photos that we received proved that they captured every moment of our day! Our guests were blown away with the photos, as were we, and we will cherish them for years to come!! Another great feature of The Happy Couple, is that the price includes either an engagment session, or a photo booth at the wedding!!

Joe Brier photographed our wedding on May 14, 2011, and he did a phenomenal job!!! He met with me beforehand to check out the chapel at the University of MD where we wed, and also the reception location. He is extremely friendly and easy to work with. The bridal party LOVED him, and said he did a great job of organizing all of us (20 of us, yikes!) for our photos. The photos turned out amazing, and I am so happy! Joe is very creative and uses a photojournalistic style that I love.
