The Harlow, curated by Abbott Hospitality, is a unique venue situated in the heart of the Kansas City Crossroads Art District. Once a turn-of-the-century automobile dealership, we've transformed this historic space into a stylish and versatile event venue.
Our journey began with a vision to breathe new life into a historic gem. As our team walked through the doors, we saw beyond its façade, recognizing the hidden beauty within. Exposed brick walls, a car-size elevator, and sweeping views of Grand Blvd whispered stories of the past.
With dedication and creativity, we embarked on a meticulous restoration journey. While preserving the original charm, we infused it with modern elements, using contemporary white, grey, and navy accents, warm lighting, and comfortable furnishings. In 2019, we proudly unveiled The Harlow, ready to host your unforgettable moments.
The Harlow can graciously accommodate up to 175 seated guests or up to 250 for a cocktail-style soirée. Our comprehensive venue rental package encompasses setup and event time, providing you with tables, elegant black garden chairs, and exclusive access to a stylish get-ready suite.

They accidentally booked my day on the same day as another bride/groom (what are the odds someone booked at the exact same time, it was crazy) and they immediately made up for it by comping us our ceremony and 3rd bartender fee. The venue coordinator at times was not great about answering my texts but she made up for it by allowing us to get our decor/things the next day instead of getting everything out at the end of the night.

They made pricing for the event easy and straightforward. You are able to add in additional time at the venue as well, which I highly recommend if doing both ceremony and reception at the venue). it wasn't really my top choice… but trying to find a venue with availability in the fall “only” a year out around downtown KC is actually HARD! When I first heard about the ownership change, I was a bit nervous - the idea of a new team coming in and messing with our plans and contract midway through our engagement sounded scary, but holy moly it was a BLESSING! The updates Abbott made to the space transformed it from "this will do" to "I love the space!!" Morgan specifically was amazing to work with – she was always so quick to respond to my emails if I had any questions or concerns, and she was extremely accommodating - from our rehearsal (prior owners wouldn’t let you have your rehearsal in the venue without paying extra… what?), to scheduling vendor drop-offs/pick-ups, and offering to refund the cost of the Courtyard for cocktail hour if we were unable to use due to weather. It was so refreshing to know that she’d be so reasonable about everything, rather than try to take advantage. The day-of went so well - the space worked out perfectly. The bartenders were great, and everyone also LOVED our reception entrance on the freight elevator. Highly recommend the The Harlow and the Abbott team!

eception with Abbi, the coordinator at the time. Then, without notice, Cindy took over. We met with Cindy for our final walkthrough and felt good about everything. Then, 2 weeks before our reception, I was notified, after I sent an email asking a question, that Cindy was no longer with Berg and was replaced with Sophie. Sophie, sensing my anxiety about the last minute switch, agreed to meet with me and my mom the Monday before our reception. Turns out, several of the things we discussed with Cindy at our walkthrough didn’t make it on paper so Sophie had no clue what the plan was. If I wouldn’t have requested a meeting I’m not sure what our reception would have turned out like. Even the night of the event, there was some confusion about what we paid extra for and what we did not, because apparently Cindy promised us things that Sophie wanted to charge extra for. Overall, I would book the space again, but it would make me extremely nervous based on the number of coordinators the space has been through in a short amount of time, it made planning extremely stressful.
I've thought a lot about whether or not to write a review, but as a future bride I'd want to know the good bad and ugly. I'll start with the positives:
The space is beyond beautif...
ul. The hardwoods floors, the floor to ceiling windows, the beautiful courtyard outside...it's incredible. We received numerous compliments on the venue (we used it for both ceremony and reception), and our photos of the space are amazing. The magnetic wall is unique and versatile for displaying photos or other decorations, and there's a giant screen if you're showing a slideshow or other video.
That being said, I would NOT book this venue again, solely because of the Event Manager, Cindy. She was by far the least professional vendor we worked with throughout our planning process. For starters, we had zero notification that Cindy had replaced Abbi as the Event Manager. Shouldn't there have been some sort of communication that the event manager we had been working with our entire planning process had left? She knew nothing about our wedding, and we basically had to start over once she took over. During our walk through, she verbally told us something that didn't end up making it into the contract...so low and behold, it didn't happen at the wedding and she flat denied ever saying it. The worst part - we had an issue with the timing on our actual wedding day, and the reception ended one hour earlier than my husband and I thought. We had paid extra money for this extra hour, as well as for multiple other vendors to stay until the time we thought the reception ended, so we also lost all of that money. We were obviously very upset. Cindy had left the event by this point, and was not available until the following Tuesday. We asked her to call us, which she did, and we were expecting at least an explanation and an apology for what happened. Instead, she called us and completely berated us for being upset over the incident. She was condescending, abrasive, and cold, and she ruined that day of our honeymoon. She never apologized, and in fact said, "there was no misunderstanding. You're wrong." She did end up refunding our money for the extra hour of reception time that we didn't get, which was nice, but I felt zero remorse or empathy from her. Simply put - if you're considering booking The Berg for your wedding, I would STRONGLY advise against it if Cindy is still the Event Manager - there are plenty of other beautiful venues in Kansas City that have event managers who care about their customers. Cindy ruined the end of our wedding reception, and she showed zero remorse or empathy to us throughout this incident.

She made things easy for us the day of and helped my wedding day be perfect. The bar tenders were so fun and friendly, I wish I could have them prepare my cocktails all the time! We took full advantage of the magnetic wall to add a special touch to our wedding: place settings, marquee letters and a selfie station. The Berg was the first (and only) venue that I actually visited in person. My mom and I met with Jillian and toured the venue. I knew right then that this was the venue for my fiancé and I!
Jillian was amazing to work with. We kept in touch via email the entire year leading up to my wedding, and even met with her and my coordinators a couple of weeks before the wedding. This meeting was so nice to have available, as it helped ensure that we were completely prepared for the wedding.
I utilized the venue for my wedding and reception. I chose to have both inside, and during the cocktail hour the room was flipped from wedding to reception. This went very well. The guests gathered outside in the beautiful alleyway (it was a warm day for the end of October, guests would have been able to stay inside if it were too cold or rainy) with hours de oeuvres passed and drinks available. The drinks, by the way, were delicious! The options for the types of alcohol/beer available are endless and the mixed drinks served tasted amazing.
I received so many compliments from wedding guests about the venue. They loved the look and the vibe. They thought the layout was perfect and the accessibility to bathrooms, elevator, and exits was great.

I looked through their pictures on instagram and facebook to get some ideas of how other couples did their floor plan, which I found extremely helpful! My now husband and I had moved out of state after getting engaged for his job and I was extremely apprehensive about planning everything from afar. Jillian is fantastic and was so accommodating. She walked my family and I through each step of the planning process, whether I was there in person or they were there for me and I was on speaker phone. She quickly replied to all my emails and phone calls. It was honestly such a relief working with someone so organized! I highly recommend using the courtyard and doing the second bar out there for when guests arrive. The bartenders at the reception were fantastic! Our family is from out of town and she kindly opened up the space each time a new family member came to Kansas City and wanted to peek at the space. She was very organized and kept our payments on schedule and was very clear about every detail that was included with The Berg. Their price may look high to some at first glance, but when you take into account the additional factors you are receiving it is entirely fair compared to other vendors in the area. They provide the tables and chairs (not many vendors in the area do), their preferred caterer list entails a variety of prices and are all fantastic, and you get Jillian (or another venue coordinator) the day of who certainly makes sure their end of the contract is being fulfilled. I HIGHLY recommend The Berg Event Space to anyone looking to hold both their ceremony & reception there or just their reception. We had 175 guests and it was the PERFECT space (we utilized the courtyard while The Berg staff flipped the ceremony space into the reception space). Don't wait, book now!!
