from the day we booked this venue till the day I walked down the aisle Libby was such a sweetheart! wedding planning can be stressful and she made it so much easier! the venue is absolutely gorgeous and the perfect place to have a smaller to mid sized wedding/event!
This venue is amazing. It has a character and charm that can’t be beat. We loved the ambiance from the moment we saw it. The food is fantastic and they have all you could need to have a great time.
If all that wasn’t enough, Libby (the venue coordinator) is a dream. She takes care of everything and makes the process so easy and fun. Not only did Libby provide us with a wonderful experience and ideas that were perfect for our day, she recommended fantastic vendors which made things a piece of cake. Libby raved about our vendors and for good reason, they were all awesome. Beyond that, every vendor couldn’t stop telling us how lucky we were to be working with Libby and they were right.
You can’t go wrong with hosting an event at the Historic Maxwell Room and Libby is the icing on the cake! Thank you for a wonderful experience!
The Historic Maxwell Room, and their meeting planner Libby, were AMAZING. The venue is just our style and the outdoor ceremony in the courtyard followed by an indoor reception was so perfect. I just love the long oak bar, the beautifully lit dance floor and all the extras they were able to provide to make our big day the best day of our lives. Thank you so much, and I would highly recommend the Historic Maxwell Room for any and all small to medium-sized events! We had 54 total, and it was perfect.
What can I possibly say about Libby and this venue! Libby makes every step of planning just about as easy as can be. I planned my wedding in 6 weeks from Los Angeles and she was always available and upfront about everything. She made it so easy for us and the space is so beautiful already, we only added flowers. Libby is the perfect person to have on your wedding day because she's super smart, organized, efficient, and all around awesome. Her staff was incredible and my guests raved about the space and food. I love that there were so many nooks and crannies to hang in. The dining room is off from the dance floor, so people can hear each other over dinner. The bar is HUGE and fun. The courtyard is so pretty for photos and the river is right there. Can't recommend it enough and just want to go back!
Our wedding turned out beautiful! Libby was amazing and answered all our questions in a timely matter and did everything she could to make sure we were happy. This venue is a little gem in South Florida. We really didn’t want a hotel ballroom or anything stuffy like that and when we saw this space we fell In love. It is perfect on its own with the brick detail and romantic lighting. But once we decorated, it all came together just how I dreamed. Thank you so much!!
Libby was great to work with and all 70 of our guest commented on how great the venue was! We did breakfast for dinner and it was amazing, especially the chicken and waffles! It was great to know everything was taken care of since we got married in Fort Lauderdale but live 1,000 miles away! All the staff was awesome and we really appreciated everyone at the Historic Maxwell Room!
Where do I start? Libby is a dream to work with. Her and her staff made our wedding day stress-free! When our officiant couldn’t make it for the rehearsal, she was there to help up plan the ceremony. She was super quick to respond to any of the questions that I had when planning the event. And was there the whole night making sure all was well. Libby and her whole team, even the staff at the Downtowner, welcomed us like friends any time we asked to see the space to plan or decorate. The Maxwell Room was the only space I could find in my area that offered that northern, romantic type of local. Being in South Florida, the main options are ballrooms or hotels, and I didn’t want any of that. We kept getting compliments all night at how beautiful the space was.
Beautiful affordable venue for a wedding reception.
We got married in February 2019, and I cannot tell you how wonderful of an experience it was to work with the Historic Maxwell Room. Libby first off is super down to earth and so accommodating. Our wedding started as a courthouse idea and went all the way to a full fledged wedding. So we had a few changes here and there through out the 5 months of planning, and it was never a problem for Libby and her team. The price is right and totally available on the website. No need for the pesky contact inquiries, you can find it right there in front of you. And for what you get, the food is phenomenal, the drinks are plentiful, and it made for an incredible night. Service is top notch! And the actual appearance of the place is so unique especially in South Florida. You won't find another place like it ladies. Please look no further! It's an incredible place, and Libby and her team are WOW WOW WOW! We used a lot of Maxwell's recommended vendors, and it was like working with a family of people who don't know you but want you to have an amazing day. Thank you so much!
The Historic Maxwell Room is a hidden gem of a wedding venue in Fort Lauderdale!!! I don’t think it will be kept a secret for very long! My husband and I had our wedding at the Maxwell Room in June of 2018 for our 60 guests. It was the one and only wedding venue we looked at and from the moment Libby, the Event Coordinator at the Maxwell Room, gave us a tour, we knew it was the perfect wedding venue for us. Logistically, my husband and I really liked that we could hold our wedding ceremony and the reception on site, including having the reception catered by the Maxwell Room – we wanted to move right to the cocktail hour and reception after the ceremony without any of our guests having to travel in between. The price for our reception and cocktail hour was right on point and we felt the cost was very fair for what was including in our package. The space itself is intimate, charming and versatile to any bride’s vision of décor for her wedding. Our guests were raving about the venue. The ceremony space turned into the dance floor later on in the evening and the beautiful bar is adjacent to the dance floor so guests could mingle and chat without feeling far away from the action. The courtyard outside the Maxwell Room served as a lovely space for our cocktail hour and for guests to get some air from dancing. Our dinner was delicious and the service impeccable. I cannot recommend this wedding venue enough! Working with Libby, their Event Coordinator, was seamless and completely stress-free - she was professional, offered useful advice and always replied to my questions in a timely manner. She made me feel at ease throughout the entire planning process and made my vision come to life. I’m so grateful to her and the staff at the venue for creating the perfect wedding day for us and for hosting our family and friends.
The Historic Maxwell Room was wonderful . The wedding turned out beautiful . All of our guest had a great time and the food was delicious. We did have a few hiccups but nothing that was handled by the wonderful staff. We were able to have vegan and gluten free options, but you have to make sure you firm this up before hand. Thank you Maxwell room staff and Libby for making our night special .
CALLING ALL BRIDES!!!
HISTORIC MAXWELL ROOM - THE MOST PERFECT VENUE IN ALL OF FORT LAUDERDALE!
As a wedding planner/mother of the bride, it was a challenge to find a venue that provided a cool, offbeat vibe, 5-star service and fabulous food. I found it at the Maxwell Room. Last weekend, our families and closest friends celebrated our daughter's wedding in the most perfect space.
The Cuban food, creatively prepared by Chef Lou was superb and plentiful, the service by Libby and her team was impeccable. The space was intimate, warm, inviting and comfortable. It felt like a mix of vintage Havana, New Orleans and funky Brooklyn. Imagine that, a first-class venue with delicious food, white-glove service and a funky fabulous space to celebrate in, while still being affordable!
The experience exceeded my expectation on every level.
Hats off to an amazing team and a spectacular venue!
If I could, I would give it 10-STARS!

The Maxwell Room was such a beautiful and unique venue. I loved the brick and architectural structure and that feel of a roaring 20's den. My husband really loved it too and he's the tough one! It was the perfect for the size for our wedding (90). The ceremony was a little cramped but looked absolutely gorgeous! Our photos came out amazing and people really enjoyed their entrees!
A hidden historic gem in Fort Lauderdale supplying the perfect venue for a fairy tale wedding. A charming and elegant location is the unique place that hosted a wedding filmed by RIMAS FILMS. A spectacular event with an emotional and romantic mood and the dream expressed by the happy newlyweds was completely fulfilled with the help of Maxwell room and its staff. A charming ballroom, closest friends, family and a gorgeous newly married couple with a beautiful venue at the background created an outstanding wedding video. RIMAS FILMS would like to highly recommend Maxwell Room!

The Maxwell Room was perfect for our wedding and working with them was a pleasure. It made our dream wedding a reality and it was beyond expectations, from the food, the service, the location, and the charm to the amazing help we received from Libby we can't express our gratitude, we definitely made the right decision when we chose the venue for our special day!
What can I say other than Awesome!!!! Libby's friendliness and guidance provided the comfort I needed. At the last moment, we needed to change venues, and Libby made the transition as smooth as possible. I'm thankful to Libby for being available and always pleasant and honest. Praise God for her :) I highly recommend the beautiful Historic Maxwell Room!
What a wonderful venue, our wedding was perfect and Libby did such a great job in making sure of this. Planning a wedding remotely is not easy, and I am so glad Libby was able to accommodate all of our needs. Aside from the staff, the Maxwell Room is such beautiful; A private, romantic, rustic location hidden in Fort Lauderdale. We had our ceremony outside by the bay and it was absolutely gorgeous. I was concerned about the restaurant right beside where the ceremony took place but once it all started, they were very respectful of the event, and hearing claps and congratulations from strangers made it that much more special! For the meal we had a duet of Skirt steak in chimichurri sauce and Grilled Mahi Mahi in mango sauce- simple delicious! I would definitely recommend this venue!
We had a great time!
We could not have picked a better venue for us - our first and last stop when looking for a wedding venue was the Maxwell Room - we knew right away it was the right fit for us. We had both our wedding ceremony and reception there and it was truly beautiful! The venue is gorgeous - it's not the white stucco plain location at all - the venue has so much character inside and out. It's a great location on the water with beautiful views that made for gorgeous wedding photos. And to top it all off, working and planning with Libby was truly a joy. She's very responsive and her and the venue offered many options that fit well for our unconventional wedding. The staff on our wedding day was great and the prices are very reasonable - especially for the area. Thank you, Libby - we'll always be grateful and can't wait to throw another party there!
When searching for a unique reception venue for our wedding, we came across The Historic Maxwell Room. When we went to view it in person, it was everything we had hoped it would be. The size of the room was perfect for our 60 guests. The brick archways that surround the dance floor, the huge wooden bar area and the beautiful courtyard give the space a vintage vibe with tons of character. The food and bar packages were very reasonable and the food on our wedding day was even better than at the tasting. The best part is that we were able to customize the meal to our liking and we had several options for the bar (we opted for Beer & Wine). For the meal we chose a duet of skirt steak (which on the menu is Thai marinated but we asked for Chimichurri) and Caribbean Shrimp (which we requested without the jerk seasoning). We have since received many compliments from our guests on the choice of hors d’Oeuvres (tuna wontons are a MUST), the food, how nice and accommodating all of the staff were, and on the uniqueness of the venue itself.
The only complaint that we have is the amount of turnover for their wedding coordinator position. When we first went to look at the Maxwell Room we met with Gigi. Weeks later when we made our decision and were ready to sign a contract, I sent Gigi an email. The reply came from a woman named Libby informing me that Gigi had moved away and that she was taking over as coordinator. We signed our contract and made our deposit with Libby. A few months later I sent Libby an email with a few questions. The response came from Andie, introducing herself as the new wedding coordinator. At this point, I was getting nervous. Our wedding was still 6 months out and we wondered how many times we would have to start over and who we would actually be working with on our wedding day.
We were very fortunate that Andie remained throughout the next six months. We hit it off with her from our first meeting and throughout she made us feel very special and as if we were working with a friend. Andie went above and beyond to make our wedding everything we had envisioned. You can imagine our extreme disappointment to find out that she was let go just days later. While we don’t know the circumstances what we do know is that her personality, creativity and enthusiasm were a huge asset and played a big role in making our wedding so special. We hope that whoever replaces her keeps up the same level of service so future couples can enjoy the Maxwell Room as much as we did.
My husband and I were married along the sea wall in front of the restaurant with a beautiful view of the boats along the New River. Gigi, our coordinator for the Maxwell Room, was accommodating and worked hard to make our wedding day what we wanted. All of our guests raved about the beautiful room and how delicious the food was. It is the perfect place for an intimate wedding. We couldn't have had a better experience!
I fell in love with this place because of the rustic feel it has to it. At first I was dealing with Brad, their event coordinator. He didn't last long with the company but didn't bother to tell me until after I left several emails and phone messages. I should've seen that as a sign and walked away from this place, but after Brad and Gigi Barse assured me that everything would run smooth from there on out I decided to stick with them. Gigi Barse was great until she showed her true colors the day of the wedding (11/24/2012). The food was cold. I had ordered mashed potatoes and they gave everyone broccoli. They ran put of food and did not make more to feed our guest that did not eat. Mind you we had 8 people not show up to the wedding whose plates we had already paid for. When my mom went back the following Monday to try and get her money back for the 8 plates that were not used Gigi and the owner refused. Not only did they refuse, but they made up this bullshit story about some of our guest "stealing" their art work off their walls. They wanted us to call all of our guests to find out who had stolen the "art work". They claimed they had it on video, but when asked to show us the video they declined. Really?
I will make sure I never recommend this place to no one!!!
I found the Maxwell Room whilst making a search of the Internet for somewhere to have my wedding reception which wouldn't cost the earth.
I emailed them as I was planning everything from the UK and was sent some information about the packages they offer which I must say are great value for money.
I wasn't able to look around the venue and didn't see it until a week before the BIG day so my husband went and took photos so I could see.
It is part of the Downtowner Saloon on the river in Fort Lauderdale. The Maxwell Room is lovely inside and has old brick walls and archways surrounding the dancefloor and a large area for tables. The bar runs along the side and is quite old fashioned but lovely. It has a unique and intimate feel and was perect for the 40 or so guests we had.
We met Stacie the events manager and the chef the week before and arranged what food we were having for our buffet dinner. We had three appetisers, 3 entrees, salad and sides, wedding cake, champagne toast and an hour free bar for everyone for around $60 per head. Great value I thought as here in the UK you would get less than that for around the same price and would not get the cake included.
The cake was from Grampas Bakery in Dania - we went there to choose what we wanted and it was lovely (3 tiers - chocolate, vanilla sponge & strawberry and lemon). They deliver to the Maxwell Room and bill them direct.
The food was gorgeous and everyone enjoyed it. All the staff working on the night were fabulous and made sure we were having a great time, coming round topping our glasses up with champers!
Stacie and her team decorated the venue with fairy lights (as requested) and used the tea lights, table jewels etc which I provided, and made it look brilliant. Very romantic with all the candles twinkiling away.
I would throughly recommend this venue if you are looking for something a bit different, great value for money, excellent staff and service.
Thank you Stacie & your team!
