This Property's Story
Mt. Ida is an impressive structure in its own right, and going up around 1828 was the last known home built by an Ellicott in the city. Originally intended as a single-family home, Mt. Ida continued in this role for many years, accommodating notable families in Howard County. These included the family of Judge John Snowden Tyson and his daughter, Ida, from whom the home draws its name. During the Civil War, Mt. Ida was used as a hospital, and later as a town hall and the site for local businesses such as the Howard County Times newspaper. The 2000s saw the then-owners restore and modernize the property with care. Since 2023, Howard County Recreation & Parks has welcomed guests on the premises of The Inn at Mount Ida.

As Superintendent of The Inn at Mt. Ida, Kimberly Pruim brings 18 years of experience working for Howard County, along with a strong background in business, event management, and customer service, to this historic venue. Her career has centered on creating memorable experiences, building relationships, and serving the community, all of which she brings to her role at Mt. Ida.
Kimberly’s connection to the wedding and events industry began while living in California, where she spent three years working for a DJ company providing entertainment for weddings, private events, and other celebrations. That experience gave her firsthand insight into the excitement, planning, and many details that go into creating a successful and memorable event.
Today, Kimberly combines her county experience, business background, and knowledge of the wedding industry to help couples discover all that The Inn at Mt. Ida has to offer. She loves getting to know each couple, learning what is important to them, and helping them envision how the Inn’s historic charm, beautiful grounds, and versatile spaces can bring their celebration to life.
For Kimberly, one of the most rewarding parts of her role is helping couples plan their perfect day. She enjoys guiding them through the process, offering ideas and support along the way, and seeing their vision come together. Whether planning an intimate gathering or a larger celebration, Kimberly is committed to making every couple feel welcomed, supported, and excited about their experience at The Inn at Mt. Ida.

We are so grateful to Nathan, Kimberly and their staff for hosting our wedding. The venue was perfect for a 60 person cocktail style wedding. The Inn was magical and the food was absolutely delicious. Would absolutely recommend!!

ives enjoy the house and gardens was incredibly gratifying. We know firsthand that the food and service were impeccable, and many of our guests told us so! It was truly a grand party! Our guests who stayed at the Inn overnight loved their accommodations and the amenities provided, and told us they spent hours Saturday morning chatting over coffee on the balcony.
Kimberly and Nathan’s responsiveness to our needs and desires was evident throughout the planning and the event itself. Kimberly was frequently in touch during the planning, and all the details were nailed down well ahead of time. They worked so hard all evening, and, as most of our guests departed, they were both clearly tired but exhilarated. (We were, too.) It’s obvious they love what they do, and that devotion shines through everything.

Where do I start!? I would give 10 stars if I could. From the beginning Kimberly was attentive, transparent with pricing and helpful in organizing my daughter’s baptism brunch. She immediately shared the catering menu which was reasonably price...
d. I met with the Chef in person, he was very approachable and helpful in reviewing details from food to decorations. Every detail of this home is elegantly decorated; frankly not too much to add other than a few floral arrangements.
The day of the baptism we had beautiful weather (end of May), the doors were open -there was a cool gentle breeze. The Chef had soft music playing for us. We were greeted by a beautiful buffet. The food was delicious, all our guests were impressed by this lovely historic home, food and attentive service. It was stress free and such an enjoyable and relaxing time spent with our family in celebrating our daughter. Both Chef Nathan and Kimberly were gracious hosts and I cannot thank them enough for a lovely time. Look forward to booking our next family celebration here.

ding rehearsal dinner here and the service was absolutely amazing. The food (we had the fajita bar) was equally impressive. I cannot say enough about how thoughtful Kimberly and team were, and how great they are to work with. Super personable and just know how to host/ take care of their guests! If you are thinking of booking an event here or just getting away, book it now! Truly a beautiful oasis in the cute downtown area of Ellicott City!

ion. Friends are still talking about the beauty of the Inn and the delicious catering provided by Chef Nathan. Amazing appetizers, pizza, and homemade ice cream sandwiches. Kim and Nathan are just the best and if you haven't visited River House Pizza yet, you're missing out on the best pizza in Howard County. We added a tent to maximize the use of the grounds - the inside of the Inn and the grounds are just beautiful. We didn't stay upstairs since we are local, but the bedrooms and kitchen upstairs are thoughtfully decorated and really so elegant.
