The Joinery is a beautiful venue in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago. I had followed their instagram for years prior to ever getting engaged and knew that as soon as I got engaged to my now husband, we would be getting married there. We looked at the venue in person a few weeks after getting engaged and loved it in person. Shay and the other staff members were great to work with and so accommodating. We had lots of questions for them and they were so helpful and responsive and we asked to adjust our time to access the venue due to Daylight Savings Time and it getting dark sooner which they were fine with. It was nice to be able to stay in the apartment above the venue after the wedding ended and to not have to rush getting around in the morning. I also stayed in the airbnb "The Millhouse" next door to the venue which they own and it was a great spot for the bridesmaids and family to stay the night in the night before and get ready in the day of without worrying about timing of doing a first look and having to travel from somewhere else to be on time. At the end of the night of the wedding we were able to easily get all of our decor out of the venue and keep it at the airbnb next door overnight and then pack it up the next day. We also used The Joinery's bar package which was easy and convenient and the drinks were delicious! The cost of the bar package was per person so it was open bar and all of our guests had a great time.
The Joinery was the perfect venue for our wedding! Having every aspect of our day on-site was incredibly convenient and the Joinery team ensured that every detail was thought of and ran smoothly. Our guests had so many positive things to say about their experience as well. Thank you to Shay, Molly and the rest of the team for making our day extra special.
In a city with hundreds of wedding venues, it can feel overwhelming to start your search. Let me help you save some time and tell you to just book The Joinery! When my wife and I began our search, The Joinery was at the top of our list. From the moment we walked through their gorgeous courtyard, we knew that marrying anywhere else would be a crime. Shay, The Joinery's venue manager is an absolutely world class human. Since booking The Joinery over 2 years ago, Shay answered every single question we had in a timely fashion, allowed us to come and see the space any time we wanted, and was just a delightful presence throughout our entire wedding day. I firmly believe that hiring vendors who you would want to be friends with makes all the difference that things will go smoothly on your big day. I think the one person who loves The Joinery more than me is Shay, and that shows in her professionalism and attention to every couples day!
I could go on and on about how this venue is perfect for everyone looking to marry in Chicago, but I will end with what was truly the icing on the cake for us. There is a gorgeous Air BnB right next door to The Joinery that we were able to stay in during our wedding weekend. It was so nice having a big space where our families could get ready together, and lay our heads at the end of a long day. Do yourself a favor and come out and see The Joinery!
The minute we walked into the joinery we knew it was our place. The deal breaker was shay, their venue manager. She was an incredible asset throughout our process that was unexpected. Not only is she super cool but also professional and extremely helpful. She gave us many suggestions that were extremely helpful. It was obvious she had alot of knowledge in the wedding industry. My husband and I have zero regrets. This venue is gorgeous and shay is the icing on the cake.
Where to begin?!
1. The space - SO gorgeous. My now-husband was obsessed from the moment we walked in for our venue tour. The wood floors, that SKYLIGHT, the beautiful and newly opened covered outdoor area, the magnetic wall (where we put our seating chart), the bar area, the bridal suite, the speakeasy, the upstairs apartment… all of it was so beautiful and unique without being over-the-top, which was perfect for us
2. SHAY! Best venue manager ever. I saw another review mention feeling so calm and happy every time they saw Shay’s pink hair bobbing around the venue, and I couldn’t agree more. Talk about someone who is SO good at their job! She seriously thought of EVERYTHING, seamlessly coordinated our one million different vendors, including some who had never worked in the wedding industry before, and she made sure the rehearsal and wedding day ran as smoothly as humanly possible.
3. MOLLY! The queen of the bar! She helped us figure out the perfect signature drinks: a hella spicy habanero margarita (which she made sure was also offered non-spicy for our less adventurous guests) and a classic tequila-and-Squirt Paloma, plus let us taste a bunch of wines to find the ones we liked best. She was also not only open to but thrilled about our request to have our Mexican family bring in tequila and beer as part of the Toro Pinto celebration which we really appreciated. So talented, excellent vibes.
Shay and Molly at the bar were amazing and helped our wedding night run smoothly. The venue is beautiful (with a skylight!!!) and in a great location. We had 106 guests with an indoor ceremony/reception and outdoor cocktail hour, and it never felt crowded. Would highly recommend to Chicago couples looking for a fun vibe!
Best venue EVER. We had our wedding there just 3 nights ago and I couldn't wait to leave a review- Shay, the venue manager is freaking awesome, so communicative and easy to work with, as is Molly, their drinks specialist (and their in-house drink packages are so reasonable and great!!) They left no detail out when thinking of what a bride & groom need on their wedding day- a private bridal suite on the main floor to have a moment to ourselves (and our own bathroom!), an apartment to stay in overnight, a newly-renovated outdoor space that we used for cocktail hour. All of our guests LOVED our venue and said how unique it was and couldn't agree more. 1000000/10! (My photos with this review are credited to EmmaPetersenPhotography.com)
We had our reception at The Joinery and it was such an amazing venue! Shay, Molly, and the team were very easy to work with and made our wedding day go incredibly smooth. The new outdoor addition is awesome and really brings together the full indoor/outdoor layout. We would definitely recommend using The Joinery for a ceremony and/or reception as it is a beautiful venue with great staff!
Beautiful space and amazing staff
We couldn't have found a better place to get married and celebrate our next chapter with all our favorite people than The Joinery. Shay, the venue manager, is so incredibly kind, helpful, and knowledgable. From answering all our questions timely, to helping us find the perfect vendors, to finalizing every detail, Shay and The Joinery team were truly amazing.
The venue is a space that we were able to make our own and highlight us journey as a couple. The entire venue is quite spacious and has lots of places for guests and personals. From the speakeasy upstairs, the multiple options for cocktail hour, and the private room after the ceremony to take a breather, everything is thought out and flows so nicely. Additionally, there were so many amenities included that we didn't find anywhere else we looked.
I will forever be so grateful to Shay and The Joinery!
The Joinery was a perfect fit for our wedding reception. The space is gorgeous - very Chicago - and they include so many amenities that other venues charge extra for. Shay was awesome - engaged, responsive, and still completely laid back. We were still early in our planning process when we booked the space, and Shay was ready with some great vendor suggestions, two of which we ended up booking and loving. In the final weeks as we started to get some decision fatigue, Molly guided us towards two perfect signature cocktails that were a hit with our guests. During our final walk through, Shay had thoughtful feedback and really helped us dial in the schedule. The team on site did a great job, the bartenders were wonderful, and our guests loved the space. Wholeheartedly recommend.
From start to finish, our experience with The Joinery was nothing short of magical. Shay, the venue coordinator, was a dream to work with – organized, responsive, and always willing to go the extra mile to make our day perfect.
Molly, our point of contact for alcohol, impressed us with her extensive knowledge and creativity. She crafted some amazing cocktail options that were a huge hit with our guests!
The venue itself, The Joinery, was a gem – its natural beauty and cozy ambiance meant we needed very little decor to create our ideal setting. We made great use of The Joinery's charming offerings like stylish table numbers, a vintage card box, and a versatile magnetic wall, which added a lovely touch to our special day.
What truly set The Joinery apart were the accommodations – the adjacent Airbnb house and the connected apartment. These made the logistics of our wedding absolutely seamless, providing comfortable and convenient space for us to get ready. The upstairs speak easy allowed a private place for our wedding party to gather ahead of the ceremony as well as an intimate setting for my husband and I to enjoy a private dinner.
We can't thank the team at The Joinery enough for making our wedding day unforgettable. If you're looking for a venue that combines ease, beauty, and exceptional service, look no further!

Our wedding was a couple weeks ago at The Joinery and we loved it! So many of our guests complimented the space as well. Everything was perfect.. the outdoor space, the speakeasy, the string lights... and Shay and Molly were both fantastic! The location of this venue can't be beat, either - we had lots of out of town guests who were able to easily get there when staying downtown to explore Chicago that weekend, as well.
Thank you for everything, Shay and Molly!!
The Joinery was the absolute perfect venue for our wedding in September. We loved it from the moment we booked it over a year before the wedding and only love it more now that we actually got to experience our wedding day in the incredible space. Shay was very professional, responsive to emails, and helpful with addressing all of our questions throughout the process. We loved that The Joinery had a private apartment for us the night of the wedding and renting the Mill House next door made our whole wedding weekend 10x better. We used the Mill House for our rehearsal dinner, getting ready space, and accommodations for our bridal party and family. All of our guests raved about the space and we can't wait to get back to The Joinery soon for one of their many community events.
The Joinery was wonderful! The space was exactly what we were looking for for our wedding - intimate, industrial / historic, and elegant. Shay was great to work with throughout the planning process; she was very responsive and accommodating to all of our requests.
We had our wedding at the joinery and could not have loved the venue more! Shay was such a calm and reassuring professional. We loved the outdoor cocktail hour space, the exposed brick, string lights, and being able to stay at the venue the night of the wedding. All of our other vendors (both new and returning to the space) loved working here. Thanks for making our day the best!!!
The Joinery is Logan Square's hidden gem. This unassuming venue tucked into the neighborhood has beautiful natural light, funky and cool designs, and colors that pop. I loved this space for so many reasons, one of them being the space speaks for itself. No need to go over the top with decor if you don't want to. The Joinery is one of a kind. With professional staff, clear communication, and options for different budgets, The Joinery is for you.
An amazing, relaxed yet elegant setting. The event planner was so impressive and worked to meet our every request. The Safe House Bar was a huge hit for the guests. Joinery staff worked so well with our own planner, floral and catering vendors. Everything was magical. The wedding was in 2021 and guests are still talking about it around our anniversary. Thank you all!
The Joinery was a lovely venue for our June 2023 wedding. The space is absolutely beautiful; the natural light from the skylight, wood floors, and industrial decor required only minimal additional floral decoration to make for a gorgeous party. The courtyard area, with its ivy and flower walls and blue container bar, was perfect for cocktail hour. Everything included with the venue (tables, chairs, welcome sign, card box, etc.) meant that our extra expenses, and the amount that we needed to coordinate, were kept at a minimum. We appreciated the opportunity to customize our table layouts and upgrade with cafe lights as well. We had approximately 125 guests, and we felt like the venue was a perfect size; it may have felt a little too crowded, especially in the courtyard, if we had reached their maximum of 160 guests. The location can’t be beat, as it was very accessible for all of our guests to get to. Shay was extremely easy to work with, communicated very well, answered all of our questions, and kept everything running smoothly. The options for the bar package were excellent, the quality of alcohol and pricing were great in our opinion especially compared to other venues with built in bar packages. It was very easy to work with Molly to select the tier that was right for us, pick out the drinks we wanted to offer, and develop two specialty cocktails. They were more than accommodating to all of our vendors and obviously got along great with the vendors they had worked with before, which is a great sign. Finally, the apartment upstairs (included with the venue for the newlyweds) was an absolute game-changer; it gave us someplace to get ready before the ceremony and keep our things during the party, plus it was so convenient to be able to just go upstairs at the end of the night and go right to bed without having to travel back home! We would definitely recommend the Joinery for anyone looking to host a great wedding.
We held our wedding at the Joinery in September 2022 and could not have chosen a more perfect venue! The space is beautiful - we loved the wooden tables, skylight, and fun blue chairs and did not have to do much to spruce up the venue. Our guests enjoyed the patio for cocktail hour and the ivy/floral mural allowed for a great backdrop, and the speakeasy upstairs was great for photos as well. We also opted for the string lights and uplighting package which added a great ambiance for dinner and dancing.
We had about 110 guests at our wedding, and the space was very comfortable but could easily fit more. Shay, the venue manager, was extremely responsive throughout the planning process and was easy to work with. I can't recommend the Joinery enough if you are looking for a unique venue unlike anything in Chicago!
The Joinery was the absolute perfect venue for our wedding!!
Shay was an instrumental part of our wedding planning process and recommended us to only the best local vendors that they have in their trusted network. The atmosphere of the space was also perfect and gave us a very authentic feel for our special day.
The Joinery is also super photogenic, every corner makes for an incredible shot! We couldn’t be happier with how our photos and wedding video turned out.
Lastly, we also booked The Mill House next door. It was so convenient for our out-of-town family to stay there and also we used it as the location for the girls to get their hair and makeup done in the morning. Highly recommend doing this since it makes things SO much easier.
Our wedding at The Joinery was an absolute dream and we couldn’t have asked for a better space or team to make it all happen!
The Joinery was the first venue my now husband and I toured, and almost immediately we knew that it was the venue for us! We loved the mix of industrial and romantic vibes and could tell that it wouldn’t take much to make the space absolutely gorgeous (the huge skylight along with some string lights really turn the space into something out of a fairytale). We had 94 guests at our wedding and it felt like a perfect size. It was intimate without feeling cramped and we had plenty of room for a spacious dance floor. Shay is the venue manager at The Joinery and she is fantastic to work with. She was extremely responsive throughout our entire planning process and answered all our questions. She provided a list of recommended vendors off which we found all of our primary vendors (all of whom we loved). The alcohol package at the Joinery is superb and we loved that many of the drinks we got to choose from were local labels (our guests really appreciated this too!). We loved working closely with Molly (who handled the bar services at The Joinery) who did a drink tasting for us at our final walk through and came up with the most delicious cocktails for us to use as our signature drinks. The package we chose also included passed signature cocktails during our cocktail hour which helped to keep lines for the bar down and were a huge hit with our guests. One initial concern that I had about the venue was that since The Joinery is in a residential neighborhood there are limits on how loud the music can be (which is why you must choose one of their provided DJ recommendations). I was worried that the music would be noticeably quiet and that people wouldn’t want to dance - I want to assure anyone reading this that I was so SO wrong. The music did not seem too quiet at all and our dance floor was going strong until the final song played at midnight. We had a BLAST! Our wedding party also made used of the Mill House which is the rental directly next to the Joinery. It was so convenient for a getting ready location and for storing decor before and after the wedding. Overall we would highly recommend The Joinery - our wedding was beyond what we imagined and we would choose the Joinery over and over again!
The Joinery is such a magical and intimate space. We had our wedding there in July of 2022 and are so happy we chose this location. All the aesthetics are on point, and it’s so helpful that they have inventory of signs and other miscellaneous items you can use that fit their décor. It saves you money and from having to plan that stuff yourself, and it all goes so nicely together. I really hope they continue with sustainability and ease of planning as a priority!
Shay was also wonderful and the whole process went smoothly. The sound system was also great.
Lastly, the bar package – it was honestly one of the main reasons we chose the Joinery and it was INCREDIBLE. So reasonably priced for a 6 hour package and their bar manager, Molly, was so flexible on the signature cocktails. The wine options were phenomenal and overall our guests loved the bar!
My Partner and I were seeking a local venue, where we could host our ceremony and reception in one place convenient to where we live to reduce stress. In addition, we needed a place to host our family nearby. The Joinery delivered it all and much much more.
Shay was ontop of all the details and made sure that we had things lined up! Molly was able to craft incredible drinks that our guests raved about, and accommodate our request to serve a particular wine. We so enjoyed the tasting we had prior to the event as well.
The Millhouse next door provided the perfect staging ground for getting ready, eliminating the stress of our wedding day and making it all the more lovely.
The Joinery will forever be a special place for us, and it's right around the corner. I am sure whenever we walk by, we will have a on a smile and a fond memory. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
This was our first venue that we visited and we fell in love with it right away! The natural light, stunning wood floors, and magical chairs were so breathtaking! And our guests loved the outdoor patio area. We also were grateful to have a bridal suite area where we could have a private moment right after the ceremony. Shay was great to work with, and we are so appreciative of how our wedding turned out!
We were married in May 2022 at the Joinery and absolutely loved the space and working with Shay and the wonderful bar staff. The space is beautiful and didn’t need a lot of decoration. Shay was super flexible and the Joinery had a lot of small decor options we chose to use such as easels, window signs, table numbers, card boxes and all of their beautifully made bars and tables. The space transformed at night with the incredible skylight and string lights with the candles on our tables to create the perfect dance floor and ambiance for our guests. Our custom cocktails were so yummy—the best I’ve ever had at a wedding—and our guests truly enjoyed the bar. Would definitely recommend the Joinery for someone looking to have a unique wedding in Chicago!
We had our wedding at The Joinery, and it couldn't have been a more perfect space for us. Between the unique touches, speakeasy, and so much more, we immediately decided to book here. Shay and her team has been absolutely wonderful. They're responsive, helpful, and answered so many questions to help us plan for the day. The space itself is so beautiful that it didn't need much, which was nice since we did all floral and decor as DIY. We still can't get over the pictures from the day in all the different areas. Thanks Shay!
We just had our wedding here this past weekend. I can’t say enough good things about both the venue and the customer service. We moved our original date bc of a surprise pregnancy and Covid. Shay was so accommodating the whole time. She answered questions promptly and honestly. The actual space is incredible. All of our guests were asking how we found it and loved all the little details. I can’t wait to see our pictures. Highly, highly recommend!
From the moment my husband and I saw The Joinery online we knew we had found our space. Once we met The Joinery staff we were even more convinced and signed that day. Shay and her team are nothing short of amazing. The compassion and flexibility we were shown while postponing our 2020 wedding will never be forgotten. I cannot recommend this gorgeous space and wonderful team enough.
Our original wedding venue closed down due to covid, so we had to find a new space for our rescheduled wedding. Shay was super helpful in showing us the space while we lived in a completely different state, and stayed super helpful after we booked! She answered every random question that came to my mind, communicated to my vendors, provided great insight, and more. Our day was made even more special with the great team at The Joinery and the beautiful event space. The bridal suite saved me (as an anxious bride) who occasionally needed to step away from all the action for a breather. Some of my best memories of the day are actually laughing with my bridesmaids in there while we took one of those quick breathers. Our day was made perfect by everything The Joinery and Shay had to offer!
We have struggled to write this review because we simply can’t put into words how amazing this venue and their team is. We booked The Joinery in 2019 after getting engaged and unfortunately had to move our wedding due to covid. The decision to move the wedding back a year was so difficult but The Joinery made it so easy for us and was so accommodating. We ended up booking all of our vendors through the recommendation list from The Joinery and there is no doubt we had a dream team of people, who were all genuinely so excited to be working together and at the Joinery. It made set up for the day/ evening run so smoothly. You can tell The Joinery was highly regarded by other chicago vendors.
Shay was a dream to work with. She was constantly fielding our questions (and as a covid bride and groom- you know we had a lot). She always made us feel comfortable coming to herewith whatever concern or question we had and gave us a great ideas for how to best use the space.
After our wedding one of the biggest questions we got was “ How did y’all find this place!?” People kept remarking that they have never been to a chicago venue like The Joinery and loved that they were able to get the chicago feel of being in the city but also the uniqueness and warmth of the Joinery’s environment. The Joinery is truly a Hidden Gem & we could not recommend it enough!
The Joinery was the perfect wedding venue for us. Shay was extremely helpful and communicative throughout, answering any questions we had. The detailed floorplan really helped us envision our big day, and the value you get is incredible! We didn't have to worry about renting chairs, tables, or props - the owners provide it all (they actually handmake many of their pieces in-house, from easels to tables to the donut wall!), and they are of exceptional quality. The outdoor patio is great for a cocktail hour with heat lamps, and the main area has a lovely atrium to host your ceremony and dance floor. The two bars indoors offer a great place for guests to talk and get drinks. You even get a room to get ready in and stay in overnight (or just store your stuff to pick up the next day).
The recommended vendor list has a plethora of options and helped us pick many of the folks we contracted for our big day - not a single one of them disappointed. The Joinery is one of the best venues the city of Chicago has to offer.
Cannot recommend The Joinery enough. We started looking for an event space that had both indoor and outdoor options but quickly fell in love with this space specifically because of the romantic loft aesthetic, unique speakeasy and amenities. Shay also helped to seal the deal - she was open to all of our questions, worked to help get lights organized for us and worked well with all of our other vendors to bring the day to life.
Our guests were equally impressed with the space itself.
Molly helped us curate the perfect bar package including custom cocktails.
We truly feel like the Joinery will be a special play for us and we cannot recommend it enough for the next couple.
We were so thrilled with our decision to have our wedding at The Joinery. Everything looked perfect, completely in line with our vision – it was industrial and edgy yet romantic and beautiful. We used the getting ready space and the apartment upstairs which was very convenient. Shay was such a pleasure to work with, responsive, flexible and sensitive to our stresses planning a wedding during COVID times. We did not have a day-of coordinator but Shay made sure everything ran smoothly and went according to plan!
Highly recommend and so many thanks to the team at The Joinery.
My husband and I got engaged in the Summer of 2020 (cheers to covid couples!) and started looking at venues right away because we knew it would be a process. From the moment we walked into The Joinery, we were in love and crossed our fingers that we could host our wedding there. The layout of the venue is awesome, the atmosphere is such a great balance of modern, rustic, and a little bit of city glam (and we loved that it's still an active wood-working space), and the location is great if you want to get married in the city but don't want the hassle/pressure of being right in the middle of the downtown bustle.
And just as important as our feelings about the venue is our true respect and admiration for Shay - she is an angel on earth. Shay was there from the moment we first saw the space to the day of our wedding, and she is an extremely supportive and patient member of the Joinery's team. Shay answered every question we had (all 5,000 of them), was super accomodating for our rehearsal, gave great feedback and suggestions, and really helped to make sure our day was the best day ever. I'm not sure there is anything she can't do. We also need to give big love to Molly who really helped us with our bar package and knocking that out of the park.
Some of our favorite things about The Joinery:
- If you live in the Logan/Bucktown/Wicker Park area (or really anywhere in Chicago), this venue is super convenient. We walked to pretty much every meeting we had and it made dropping off/picking up some decor items really easy. I will say, most of our guests were out of towners, so we did have to plan a trolley situation to make transportation smooth. But if you have a majority of guests in town and are familiar with the CTA, Uber/Lyft, etc then getting to The Joinery is a breeze.
- They are flexible on vendors. With the exception of the DJ (they provide preferred companies for you to choose from), we got to select all of our vendors, which really helped make our day super personal.
- The look and feel of the venue...it's just amazing. The patio is excellent for cocktail hours, the secondary bar area is great (we set up a photobooth back there too), the Safe House is awesome for folks to grab a beverage in a more tucked away space (we used it for the bridal party before the ceremony), the apartment is a great addition (we used that area for bridal party stuff as well as a space for some of the kiddos to take a break from dancing). And the main area is just a dream. We didn't feel like we needed to do a ton to the space decor-wise to make it feel like a party. The whole venue has such a great personality and almost every single guest commented on how great the venue is.
- The Joinery is equipped for guests with accessibility needs. The venue has lots of ramps and the bathrooms are all on the main floor.
- Capacity: we had about 120 guests which we thought was great. They can accommodate more, but we really like the size of our group because we didn't have to move anything to make the dance floor available. There is a ton of flexibility in how you can choose to set up your ceremony, your tables, and we really appreciated that about the venue.
We really loved being at The Joinery for our big day and we are so glad we were able to host our wedding there. Thank you Joinery team for all that you do for your couples!
We held our wedding in early October at The Joinery and couldn’t be more satisfied with our decision. The venue is absolutely beautiful, and having both indoor and outdoor space with a rustic/ industrial look is a rare find in the city. Shay was also very easy-going, organized, and thoughtful throughout the process — she provided rosemary sprigs from her garden for our signature cocktail! We didn’t think we would use the bridal suite, but it was so helpful to have your own space and bathroom throughout the night. A few of our out-of-town friends also stayed overnight at the apartment. We wish we could relive our wedding at this venue all over again!
The Joinery was such a perfect spot for our wedding. Our guests raved to me all night about how beautiful the space was. We had a 90-person wedding and the space was just perfect - room to dance and move around without being crowded at all or feeling too empty. Shay and all The Joinery staff are awesome and helped so much during ever-changing COVID-19 restrictions. Another thing we loved about The Joinery is that their list of suggested/preferred vendors was truly awesome. We booked all our vendors through there, and they really must have taken a lot of time to find the best companies in the city. Highly recommend The Joinery for any wedding.
HIGHLY recommend The Joinery for your upcoming wedding or event! My husband and I immediately fell in love with the venue and knew right away it was the place we wanted to have our wedding. The unique, industrial and romantic look is what hooked us. While we wanted to have our ceremony outside, we knew with Chicago weather, we needed to find a location that we would be happy with if we had to pull the ceremony inside. The Joinery was the place. The skylight is a dream! Not only is the venue amazing but so is the team. Shay is wonderful to work with and was always available to answer all our questions and help with changes throughout the craziness of the past year. Thank you Shay for all your hard work! We absolutely loved our wedding and so happy we picked The Joinery!
Like every engaged couple, we toured more than our share of potential venues, but we knew when we saw the Joinery that we were in love. The skylight and whitewashed walls in the main hall provided a gorgeous backdrop for both our wedding ceremony and reception, and we were able to flip the space without inconveniencing our guests thanks to the beautiful (and shaded!) patio space. The "Speakeasy" upstairs also served as a cool extra space for getting ready and photos, and if we'd had a larger guest list we'd absolutely have planned to retreat there for an after-party. With about 50 guests, we felt that the main space was a cozy and intimate room for both the ceremony and reception, but we could tell that twice that number could have attended and it wouldn't have felt cramped. We 100% recommend having your wedding here if you want a beautiful, effortlessly cool venue to serve as the backdrop for your I-dos!
We were finally able to have our micro wedding at the joinery last weekend and it was excellent. Working with Shay was amazing and she helped us every step of the way. The venue is beautiful and everyone there is extremely helpful and accommodating. Definitely recommend this venue!!
Love this space and working with Shay! After seeing a ton of different wedding venues, The Joinery really stood out to us as the most uniquely us and it being a couple blocks away from our apartment in the Logan Square neighborhood made it all the more special. It’s been cool to see how involved the space is in the community - it serves as a polling place for elections, they host community events like yoga classes and give back like packaging up food on Thanksgiving.
We love the big skylight and that the venue really shines on its own without the need for much decor other than beautiful florals. Where you’ll pay a little more for booking the space, you’ll probably save a ton on decor letting the space speak for itself and you’ll feel good in supporting them based on their community commitment/involvement. There are so many cool spots within the venue for photos, too, guarantee you’ll have some unique wedding shots.
Unfortunately, our bigger reception is on hold, but we’re so thrilled we were able to have a mini ceremony in the space. Shay was so on top of communications regarding all the changes and restrictions from COVID and it was so helpful to have her brainstorm back up plan after back up plan with us. She was amazing in helping us (and many other couples) navigate it all this year and we appreciated how flexible she was yet also direct in communicating the restrictions in place to protect us, our guests and her business.
Can’t wait to celebrate in this beautiful space in 2021!
Found The Joinery while on a hunt for an indoor/outdoor venue to host our covid wedding. The venue is so cool and so beautiful. I loved the skylight and tall ceilings and all the exposed brick. What really made this place special though, is the people. Shay, the manager, was so flexible and helped us when we changed our minds about 10 times due to covid concerns. They went out of their way to make sure everything was as safe as possible. We ended up doing the bar through them and the drinks were amazing (we had hot apple cider + booze as one of our signature drinks and our guests loved it!). They also helped us find our wonderful planner/florist and caterer! Definitely give them look, you won't regret it.
We can't say enough nice things about The Joinery! It provided the most beautiful backdrop for our micro-wedding. Shay was incredible to work with.
I had my wedding here back in September. It truly was perfect for us and everything went well- leading up to the day and the day of. We worked with Brittany mostly. The space is absolutely beautiful and I loved the multiple rooms, different levels and outdoor space (although it was pouring rain on our wedding day and we didn't get to utilize it!).
I am a professional event planner and The Joinery is one of my favorite venues to work at. I recommend it to all of my clients. The space is absolutely gorgeous and unique while still allowing so much room for creativity. Included tables and chairs are always a huge advantage and their's have so much personality. The outdoor space is perfect for a small ceremony and cocktail hour and if it's rain no worries! The skylight inside makes you feel like you're outside anyway. I can't recommend this venue enough!
My wife and I don’t have enough good things to say about The Joinery. We were fortunate enough to get married there in May 2019. It was an incredible evening of dining and dancing. The venue was spectacular. It’s intimate, unique, and impressive. Katherine, Brittney, Billy and the rest of The Joinery staff really shine too. They are responsive and organized. While our contacts at other venues sometimes came across as stuffy and overbearing, the Joinery Team was approachable and laidback, yet professional. Get married here, and invite us if you do!
The Joinery was the perfect setting for our wedding day. It’s insanely beautiful inside and will give you just the right vibe for a charming and cool city wedding. We had 124 guests and felt the space was just the right size for both our ceremony and cocktail hour/reception. Katherine let us come in a few different times to see how other weddings had set-up tables/chairs for similar sized weddings and this calmed our worries that our guests would feel cramped (they didn’t). After a series of unfortunate events, we didn’t have a coordinator or officiant to lead our rehearsal and we have Billy to thank for making us, our bridal party, and parents feel informed and comfortable. We heard from other vendors that The Joinery is run by kind and responsive owners, which is important when you bring in all the vendors. They were accommodating when my sister needed to get in the attached AirBnb a little earlier than scheduled (she had just had a baby a few days before). Thank you to Billy, Katherine, and Brittany for all your help, support, and accommodations!
We absolutely LOVED our wedding at the Joinery! It’s a beautiful venue with charm and character throughout. It is intimate and incredibly unique, and it photographs beautifully. We fell in love with the space the moment we walked in. It is definitely on the smaller side of for venues, but you’ll be surprised how much space there is and all that you can fit in. The Joinery does serve as a blank canvass for your wedding/event, which we wanted that freedom and flexibility when planning our day. You make decisions on everything you bring in. The Joinery team is very helpful with both recommendations and being open to new vendors. They also have a bunch of items in their shed that they allow you to use, which is an awesome plus. Brittney was our main contact throughout the process and Billy was our on-site contact the day of. Both of them were so kind and helpful. Brittney was great with answering questions and helping with our layout. Billy was an all star the day of. Any time we needed something, he was there and always with a smile on his face. One note to keep in mind, because the Joinery is tucked away in a neighborhood it does provide some noise restrictions. The patio closes at 8pm and the DJ has to be aware of noise volumes. It's one of those things you worry about more before the wedding, but you don’t think about on the day and your guests will never notice. We absolutely loved our day/night and have gotten so many compliments on the space. We can’t thank and recommend the Joinery enough!
Our wedding at The Joinery this past July was everything we could have asked for and more. We can't thank the team at the Joinery enough for making our wedding day so special. The venue was breathtaking and the staff was so helpful throughout the wedding planning process.
I regret using the Joinery as our venue. Once you pay your deposit, you don't matter to them. We used a bartending company off their preferred vendor list and they ended up being a scam. We wouldn't have known about the bartending company being a scam unless I had opened a quarterly newsletter and it was listed that "Fusion Vino" would no longer be welcome at the Joinery due to dubious business practices. I reached out and asked what the situation was, but only got vague replies. When I tried to salvage the situation to the best of our budget because we had already paid the vendor, the Joinery was not receptive. The Joinery allows for BYOB but they made false claims that bartenders needed to be liquor licensed. I then reached out to the alderman who confirmed this was false. The ony vendor that needs to be liquor licensed is the liquor distributor, which was Binny's. Because of how long it took to figure all of this out, I finally was able to hire bartenders, but they were sub-par because of how close everything was to the date. The original bartending company I wanted to hire to salvage the situation refused, so I had to go with the sub-par company. All they do is nickle and dime you without providing any additional services. The costs became astronomical because I had to keep hiring staff left and right. The Joinery was also difficult with our start time. In our contract, it said 12 pm and then they said that they made a mistake and that it was actually 2pm. It's a beautiful space, but unless you're with a bottomless budget, it's not worth the hassle, especially with how much you pay for the space . It doesn't include a rehearsal space or allow you to keep anything in the space that's within your 12 hour time frame. Stay away from them.
We are not the first and we will not be the last to say that The Joinery is a wonderful venue. The apartment upstairs is amazing, there are so many beautiful places for photos, and the venue is stunning. The staff is amazing and attentive to questions.
We were recommended this venue by my dad's boss who attended an event here. This was the first venue we visited, and knew we wanted to get married here straight away. However, we visited several other venues around Chicago to ensure this was the right choice for our big day.
First, the positives: Katherine is amazing. Her warm, welcoming, kind, sincere, and professional demeanor is what made us feel comfortable signing our contract. The venue itself is stunning, and has the perfect balance of indoor and outdoor spaces, and the Air BnB above, is a HUGE bonus, as we stayed there the night of our wedding, and made logistics so easy, saving us a night at the hotel.
Unfortunately, as soon as we paid our hefty deposit (this was the most expensive venue we looked at - and The Joinery does NOT include a rehearsal which was a HUGE negative, as every other venue included one free of charge we visited, they don't allow you in until 2:00 PM on your wedding day, which was the LATEST arrival time of all venues, and they will not hold items for you before/after, and if you ask, they make it seem as if you are asking for a limb from their own body, and are quite rude about it), Katherine pretty much left the story. Yes, she responded to a handful of emails, but we were left dealing with her assistant... lets just say, if we had to deal with the assistant from the beginning, we NEVER would have signed our contract. She was rude, condescending, cold, completely disinterested, and during our walkthrough, she legit stared at her laptop the entire time, working, barely looking up at us, our planner, nor vendors that were present. My husband normally doesn't speak up about other people, but even after leaving, he was shocked at her rude behavior, it left an awful taste in our mouth.
We feel The Joinery reflects the ugly grind of the wedding industry in Chicago: they charge and nickel and dime you for everything, with having an expensive venue cost. Parking, a rehearsal, early load-in, etc. are ALL charged extra and are NOT cheap. We refused to pay for any of it as we were so upset at how high the cost was for the venue deposit and venue itself. Would we recommend this venue? Yes, with caution. Be mindful they will drop the warm, welcoming communication once you pay them. We also highly recommend using their vendor preferred list, it changes often. The only reason we weren't truly unhappy with this venue was our vendor team (they were top notch) - try to utilize vendors through the Green Wedding Alliance. FIG, Naturally Yours Events, and Cage and Aquarium were three of our favorite vendors, and they all have been at The Joinery several times, so zero stress.
The only positive part that ended our experience with them was Billy. On the day of our wedding, he was a ROCK STAR. Our family, myself, my husband, we couldn't stop raving about him. If we could recommend anything, I would have Billy train your assistant in terms of interacting with clients, or drop her all together, as our interactions with her is what made us drop the two stars to three.
We were very lucky and had heard about this venue right when they started putting on events. It's a lovely spot right in the middle of Logan Square in a quiet neighborhood, right off the blue line. The Joinery gave us the perfect combination of city vibes that weren't located right downtown. From the very beginning, Katherine one of the owners was very responsive and met us to go through the space. And the space is wonderful, beautifully renovated. You can tell that the owners put a lot of thought and care into their renovation. The space is absolutely beautiful, open and airy. The skylight illuminates the entire space and is gorgeous. They still use their workshop area and it's lighted up for events. My husband and I immediately fell in love and realized how different it felt than all the other spaces we visited. The Safe House speakeasy on the second level was also incredibly unique, and we loved the outdoor space as well that we planned on using for cocktail hour. The additional AirBnB that comes included with the space also was a major perk, we used it to house gifts during the wedding and had our parents stay there for the night. The Joinery also provides their own decorations that you can use for your event including window panes, signs etc.
During the year leading up to the wedding, Brittney joined the staff as a manager and she was wonderful to work with. Always responsive, always available to give us another look at the space, and always answering our questions and concerns. Planning a wedding can be incredibly stressful and Brittney did a wonderful job at making me feel well looked after and taken care. of She always made me feel comfortable contacting her with any questions or concerns that I may have. The staff at The Joinery were all in all incredible during the entire process. Everyone from the owners to the managers were a joy to work with, even dealing with last minute walk-throughs for mother-in-laws to see the space!
The day of, Billy was our point of contact and he was absolutely wonderful! Even though I had never met him before, he immediately put us at ease and constantly checked on me throughout the evening, making sure that I had a drink in hand, and making sure that I had some of the appetizers. He did a great job at assisting in coordinating everything, handing out keys, unlocking doors, and answering questions. I was seriously so impressed with Billy and so thankful for his aide during the big day.
We received so many compliments on how absolutely beautiful and unique the space is. How they had never seen a wedding venue quite like that before and we truly believe that as well! I would highly recommend the Joinery to anyone and everyone who is interested in having a beautiful, different space in the city. A few words of advice though because the space is in the middle of a neighborhood, there are noise restrictions for music and the patio and outside area does close at a specific time. However we had no issues with our guests. Parking was ample! Do not be stressed about street parking (a big concern for some of the suburb guests), there were plenty of spots open. I would highly recommend the Joinery to anyone without any reservation! You will absolutely become obsessed!
This venue was recommended by my wedding planner, and my husband and I felt this space was beautiful and reflected our vision for the wedding. The space is naturally beautiful. The hardwood floors and the skylight mean that the venue does not need a lot of additional adornment to look wedding-worthy.
Included with this rental are gorgeous hardwood tables and their unique light blue chairs. There is also an outdoor space with vines and an upstairs Speakeasy for the cocktail hour/reception. There's also a connected Airbnb, which we used for child-care which was super helpful for our guests who are parents. They also have some random elements that can be used as decor week-of, such as a donut wall and wooden easels if you want your seating chart written on an easel vs. using paper goods.
They have a recommended vendor list, but there is a lot of flexibility, which attracted us to this venue. We were able to do a BYOB bar setup rather than a bar package, which resulted in our saving some money. As a note, they prefer DJs vs. a live band. The venue is located in a residential area so they are cognizant of that factor. This was not a problem for my husband and me, but a good thing to know if this is a make-or-break detail for you.
This venue is perfect for a wedding of 150 guests or smaller. Brittney was our main contact throughout and was detail-oriented and prompt. I would recommend this venue to any couple looking for a boho/unique loft in the Chicago area.
The Joinery is one of the coolest venues I've seen in Chicago and an absolute delight to work with! Britney and her team were super organized and did everything they could to make our day even more special. If you're looking for a chic, modern, industrial space you can customize, this venue is PERFECT.
I loved this venue! It was the first one my fiance and I looked at and we could not get it out of our mind! We are so happy we had our wedding here. All the special touches really make the location. Best venue space ever!!!
The Joinery is a beautiful venue for an autumn Chicago Wedding. Britney of The Joinery is a pleasure to work with. We loved the speak easy upstairs and loved the courtyard. It brings in the "barn wedding" vibes to the urban background of Logan Square.
I was continually told that this was the coolest venue people had ever been to for a wedding... the day was magical and we owe The Joinery a huge thank you for letting us use their space.
I totally recommend using their venue for any meeting! And it still functions as an active wood working shop.
We recently had our wedding at the Joinery and it was just the perfect day. Brittany helped us before the big day and made sure that everything was set for our big day. When my husband and I went to the Joinery for the first time we knew this was the place we had to get married. The space is so unique and you can really make it your own, it is also close to where we live so we loved the neighborhood vibe as well. They also have a lot of items in their shed you can use for FREE! They had a donut wall from a previous wedding that we were able to use for our dessert bar which saved us so much money. There is also a speakeasy upstairs we used as a bourbon bar and it comes with an 2 bedroom airbnb for the night. It really is an AMAZING value and amazing venue. The space is best for smaller weddings, we had about 120 people and I think that was a perfect amount for the space, any more and I think it would have been too crowded. I cannot recommend the Joinery enough because it was just a special and amazing space for our amazing day.
This is a fabulous intimate venue in the middle of the Bucktown and Logan Square neighborhoods and easily accessible from the Blue Line. We booked our wedding here for July 2018 in August 2017. At that time, they were still pretty new to the event scene - we got lucky that they still had a few Saturdays open for summer 2018 and the space was undergoing minor cosmetic renovations.
The space is gorgeous with beautiful wood floors and a huge skylight that lets in tons of natural light in the afternoons. We had about 130 guests at our wedding, which was perfect (capacity was quoted at 160, but that would be tight). We had a pretty standard ceremony inside, cocktail hour outside (using the adorable storage container as the bar), and then fully seated family-style meal inside before opening up for dancing and dessert.
The venue design/ownership team was easy to work with. We live nearby and asked on several occasions to swing by the venue to take visiting family members or go double check on amenities. They have a small amount of decor that you can use - we grabbed some windows a few days prior to our wedding to write menus and seating assignments. The upstairs speakeasy is awesome for guests, and a cool place for wedding party pictures. The AirBnb is also clutch. It was super convenient to be able to just go upstairs between ceremony and dinner, and after the reception before going to our after party.
The only complaint we had for our event was that the hot water was not working in the AirBnb for our stay, which we did not realize until 3am when we got back from our after party. Fortunately, we could just walk home in the morning before heading to our morning event.
One other thing to note is that this venue is in the middle of a residential area. At the time of our wedding, they were apparently having some issues with noise complaints (despite them always closing the patio at 8pm). I think now they may prohibit live bands in the venue now because of this. We had a DJ, so no issue there.
We booked the Joinery for our wedding in June 2018 back in March 2017. The venue had just started hosting events when we signed. Overall, they were pretty easy to work with and it was cool to watch the Joinery grow from what it was when we first toured it. New additions were added to the space and new people as well. Matt was our initial contact and was always easy to get a hold of and eager to answer any questions we had. There was only 1 issue we had with the venue and that was that we couldn't bring in any decor the day before. In the contract, we were not allowed into the space until 2 PM the day of the wedding. That caused us to have to figure out who could get all of our decor to the venue the day of our wedding. Otherwise, it was a beautiful space and we received many compliments and questions on how we found such a unique space.
Our wedding was supposed to take place October, 2017 in Turks and Caicos. Sadly, Hurricane Irma had other plans and we were forced to replan our entire wedding in a month. We jammed venue viewing after venue viewing in one week, but nothing measured up to the wedding we had envisioned. Hopeless and defeated, we thought we were going to have to settle until the Joinery came to our attention. We were so glad we found them! It was everything we imagined and more. The open floor of this historic beauty made the place an open canvas for us to play around with our rustic/Halloween wedding theme. Please keep in mind this place did not need much décor. Katherine was truly amazing. She gave us the confidence that we could pull this wedding off in a month with the Joinery. The attached AirBnB apartment was a HUGE plus. Everything about this place was gorgeous and the comments we received at and after the wedding were nothing but spectacular. We hope to return on our 50th wedding anniversary.
