This review is not regarding the hotel room/facilities. This is regarding the catering/room rental division. We were looking for a venue that would allow us to do outside catering ...
for our wedding ceremony. Since we are of Guyanese decent we didn't want to go with a venue that made us 1. take their food or 2. use a specific caterer because they typically had traditional Indian cuisine which we do not all eat. Long story short we met with someone over a year before the event and they agreed to allow us to rent the room with tables ect and just agree to bring in our own food. We left a deposit and signed what we thought was a contract.
The contact person changed 3 times and no one knew anything about our event each time we met. The lack of communication and professionalism was horrible. As our event approached we meet with venue to go over everything that was promised to us and had to pay more money than we were told in the initial meeting to ensure we received the services that were initially promised. We thought everything was worked out and we were all on the same page and they even offered me a room to use the night before the ceremony. We paid the extra money to ensure 1. we would have 3 servers because from the beginning that is what was promised to us. 2. we paid extra for them to clean the room after the event was over. 3. we would be able to use the facilities chafing dishes to hold the food and keep it warm.
And still the day of the event no one knew anything that was going on. The manager working the day was very nice but clueless. There were no chafing dishes provided. No one was there to serve the food which we specifically paid extra for. If I would have known this I would have arranged friends or paid someone else to serve the food. By having servers they know to portion food as opposed to having people serve themselves. If I would have known what I was getting into I would have never booked here. I know asking to cater from the outside is not a request everyone accepts but they agreed to it from the start and agreed to the other terms as well.
Prior to this we went to 2 other events at this hotel over the years and I can you can assure I WILL NEVER EVER RECCOMEND ANYONE TO HOLD ANY EVENT HERE!. I have lots of co workers and friends who need venues to hold bridal showers ect but after what I saw please go somewhere else.
Literally nothing but trouble for a year. DO NOT USE THIS VENUE. I went over our contract with one person (Cindy Helman) who apparently was known for promising things that the Ken...
ilworth didn't provide. I was told a cake was included. I was told they work with a local bakery. I was told the room block would be discounted for guests. Unfortunately we didn't discover she's a liar until she suddenly vanished/was fired/I don't even know what excuse they had. I had sent an email correspondence as we had been doing more regularly starting about a year out (I like being extremely prepared so we did everything early) and then in August I get an auto reply saying the email is no longer valid. A month goes by with no word. I finally reach out and they tell me they're hiring a new coordinator I should hear from in a week. Two weeks later and nothing. FINALLY I call and speak to Chris Buenaga who put in contact with Kristal and finally set up a meeting. She told me the cake I was promised was not included in my menu and the $10K I was expecting to drop on this place. I complained because I was promised a cake. It says it right on the menu and it's part of why I signed the contract. They claimed that's just a "supplementary sheet cake." Nonsense. Also Kristal said no one knew about a contract with a local bakery. I spoke to head of sales who promised to split the cost of a cake with whichever bakery I chose. Fine. Everything seemed fine. We did a food tasting. It was extremely unimpressive except the sauces. Great sauces, chef! Then guess what! Kristal suddenly vanished too. I had to call her cell after more weeks of hearing nothing so she could tell me she didn't work there anymore. And you'll never guess what happened next. ALL of their upper management apparently was being changed! That was just poor luck, but someone really needed to tell us if we suddenly didn't have a coordinator anymore! Finally we got Alexandra. She was on point. She was organized. She was kind. She reached out (eventually) and she kept me calm. She even worked with me to help set up my wedding the night before. But the Kenilworth also gave us a terribly bland MC who couldn't even follow our schedule correctly. We had a toast with NO CHAMPAGNE in our glasses. The only good thing day of was that they provided me and my husband helpers to make sure we got food and drinks. And the bartender was great. That's it. So if Alexandra decides to work with a competent and trustworthy venue, I'd say follow her. But it's just not worth dealing with the Kenilworth's event staff. The rooms are pretty nice, especially the suite. Stay there sometime I guess...if you're flying into Newark Airport.
Dina is the best! I had a rocky beginning with the hotel as there was a massive turnover in staff. I freaked out when I learned that the person I had made my block with left, but D...
ina reassured me that I would be taken care of. Dina truly cares about her clients and constantly touched base with me to update me on my block and make sure I had everything that I needed. She expanded my block several times to make sure most of my guests could stay there, despite the fact that there was a major corporate event going on. On the day of rehearsal, I was allowed to check in early and Dina even personally helped me hang up my dress. Our stay with the hotel was so pleasant and I highly recommend it to anyone! Just ask for Dina!
The hotel is quite unique as it is not the typical chain. The rooms were clean and modern. Each room had a Keurig and they had a bridal gift waiting for us in our suite. The staff ...
worked with our large wedding group even to the point of including some of our latecomers. The site is conveniently located close to Newark and offers a shuttle to the airport and nearby rail stations. We enjoyed getting together at the bar downstairs and the bartender was fun to get a drink from. Sadly the pool was closed but the gazebo served for some great pre-wedding pictures. The breakfast was quite well and all our guests enjoyed their stay.
The hotel was undergoing major renovation, which was a surprise, but the staff made sure that my wedding guests were comfortable and taken care of. The staff there, especially Nico...
le and Edwin. They are fabulous to deal with and really know how to handle crisis situations!
