The Mansion at Strathmore is a historic home and active art gallery in North Bethesda, MD, just north of the DC beltway. This magnificent Georgian property sits on a high hill encompassed by mature woodland, flowering shrubs, and meticulously manicured lawns. Evoking the elegance and romance of the Gilded Age, it offers a one-of-a-kind setting for wedding events.
The Mansion at Strathmore was built in 1899 and has retained many of its original features. Stunning palladian windows, sweeping staircases, marble mantels, and polished oak floors are just some of the charming elements that attract couples to this venue.
To start your day at Strathmore, you can get ready from the comfort of their on-site dressing room. This is the perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy time with your loved ones before you walk down the aisle.
Traditional ceremonies are hosted in their beautiful on-site chapel with warm wooden interiors and an organ for your processional music. Alternative ceremonies are accommodated in at the nearby gazebo or in the rear of the Mansion, surrounded by gardens.
After you tie the knot, you can slip out for your portrait session in our sculpture garden while your guests mingle over cocktails. For your dinner reception, you can reconvene with up to 100 guests on the first floor. This space is abundantly elegant and charming, with glittering chandeliers, gleaming brass fixtures, and a double-height ceiling. After your dinner, the main room can be rearranged to accommodate an unforgettable evening of music and dancing.

The Strathmore was a beautiful venue for our wedding in July. The piano was an amazing touch to our ceremony, and the grounds were perfect for garden pictures. We had 95 guests, an...
d it was full without being uncomfortable.
It did get pretty hot as the night went on, which led to fewer people on our dance floor. We also had a few issues with sightlines during speeches since it's not one huge open room like many wedding venues. We loved the artistic and classic vibe the venue created for our wedding; great for intimate weddings.
Let me start off by saying, that the Strathmore Mansion is a gorgeous venue. Our guests and we had a wonderful time. The pictures came out incredible and the staff were very kind t...
o us. My only reason for taking away a star is for the setup. Our wedding was at 6 pm and the earliest any of our vendors could get in was 4 pm. And there is only 1 elevator that vendors can use to get in the mansion. With the way the space is laid out (not an open concept, it's a mansion), it was difficult for all our vendors to get in and set up accordingly. This wouldn't be such a big deal but since we were having a winter wedding, our guests couldn't wait outside in the cold, which meant they were being buffeted around before the ceremony because our florist, DJ, and caterer were all trying to set up. Our photographer could only use so much of the space to take pictures because the caterer was setting up. Again, not really an issue for summer weddings. So just be aware when planning your December-February wedding. the feedback I would give, for those off season weddings is to close the Strathmore just a bit earlier, like around 3pm instead of 4. That way our vendors dont have to speed run to set up.
The Mansion at Strathmore is a fantastic venue for every season. The rooms are tastefully done with 2 rooms for the wedding couple. It's close to the Metro station, so guests can h...
ave another transportation option. The Strathmore staff were great to work with. The rotating artwork on the walls really add a lot of color to the space, and you don't need much additional decoration. The Music Room is phenomenal for both the ceremony and as a place for dancing. The venue costs are very competitive.
We had a summer wedding reception outdoors at Strathmore's Patio Stage on the Trawick Terrace. The space was great- tented, well lit, good airflow, good acoustics, and access to th...
e Comcast Circles Lounge. However, working with Strathmore's event rentals team was a bear. It was like pulling teeth with getting a timely response, coordinating logistics, and setting up a formal walkthrough. My wedding planner and caterer had these difficulties with Strathmore's event rental team as well. There was also a huge issue concerning the alcohol situation 72 hours from the wedding date. All parties present during our walkthrough were told that we could bring in outside alcohol for our event. Two days out from our wedding we get a call from Strathmore's event rental team stating that we cannot use our alcohol vendor (or bring our own alcohol), and that our caterer can be the only supplier of alcohol for our wedding. You're going to be hard pressed to cancel an order and get any sort of refund this last minute. Thankfully, our caterer and the alcohol vendor worked it out and we did not have to worry about a dry wedding. Overall, the reception space and day of event was spectacular. Working with Strathmore was hair pulling. If you do have an event at the Strathmore, ask for all aspects of food and beverage policy be present in the contract, including alcohol, and create a reoccurring calendar reminder for yourself to follow up with the Strathmore’s event rental team.
I say the Mansion at Strathmore was worth it in the end because they pulled off an absolutely perfect event, but getting there was a bit of a struggle at times. The people we dealt...
with were always very nice, but hard to get a hold of at times, took many days to return emails, not clear about details, and not very flexible about a couple things. But I will say, the space was great for our size wedding (135) and absolutely loved having the terrance (we rented couches and armchairs and coffee tables for out there! Really lovely!!!). As soon as the ceremony was over, a waiter found my husband and me and basically followed us around with a platter of Hors d'oeuvres to make sure we tried some of everything, and as soon as we sat at our table, he came over and said we were not to bother ourselves with the buffet or going to the bar, that he would bring us everything, and he did! I know other people don't, but I ate well at my wedding! We also had somewhat different food requests (read: annoying) in that we wanted stations of food, each with cuisine from a different part of the world, including an African dish Bobotie they had never heard of. They totally worked with us and made exactly what we asked for, mini-pizza station included, and they really nailed the bobotie! In the end, totally worth the bumps along the way. Just be really clear about exactly what you want early on, do nothing last minute, and be ready to pay a pretty penny (they have an in house caterer that you have to use, and that's the really pricey part, BUT they are a great one and do places like the Kennedy Center too, so really high quality).

The Strathmore would have been ideal location for our wedding and we liked the interior. However, after finally calling and getting hold of Kristin, and then visiting the place, s...
he wouldn't return any phone calls or emails. I tried and NOTHING. Unlike her, Augie was very responsive, and he would return my calls in less than 24 hours. Given the unprofessionalism we experienced with Krisitin, we felt unwelcomed and decided on another venue.
We had our reception here and so glad we did (100 guests). It was such a great evening. We still get comments months later on the delicious food and the beautiful mansion.

of the reasons why we chose to hold our reception here was because we really liked how the mansion grounds and inside was up-kept (much more so than other venue sites we looked at). Also, Augie seemed great to work with.
I highly recommend this place for a wedding or any other event. It might be a little more pricey than others, but worth it.
The Mansion was exactly what we wanted, something with the feel of a house, but still elegant. It is an art gallery by day, and an old, well-appointed mansion, so it did not reall...
y need much decoration, other than flowers on the tables and some tealights sprinkled around. The house manager, Kristin, was always great to work with, she responded to questions quickly, and kept us updated on the construction going on around (but not on) their property. And, best of all, it was a great value for the type of venue and its location.

ociates. And Restaurant Associates is very good but it is very expensive...be sure to try to negotiate some things because they will not give any deals and may even try to rip you off on the pricing for liquor.
The food how you did not have to decorate much because it was so beautiful with art hung up everywhere already for you
