re’s something so unique and magical about being surrounded by aquatic life. It created the most unforgettable atmosphere.
The staff were phenomenal—professional, attentive, and genuinely kind. They made sure every detail was taken care of, allowing us to relax and truly enjoy our day. We can’t thank them enough for their hard work and care.
And the food—wow! Every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. Our guests are still raving about the meal.
We highly recommend the Maritime Aquarium. It was the perfect place to begin our journey together!
o We had a wonderful wedding at the aquarium! Kayleen was super helpful and responsive, answering all of our questions and keeping the online event order updated. She was there the...
day of too making sure that things were getting done, including serving food when needed. The getting ready room is a conference room, but with a nice window and lots of space right next to the ceremony area. It big enough for us to get ready in and had enough space for everyone to leave their stuff during the event. We did our first look outside in the park, which is right outside of the aquarium on the water. Our ceremony was in the cascade café, which has very nice industrial exposed wood beam vibes. One minor issue was that the TVs on the wall used to display food during the day were still on and the groom had to turn them off right before the ceremony. The cocktail hour was in the first floor of the aquarium, Kayleen spaced tables all throughout the exhibits. Our guests kept raving about how much they loved wandering through everything, especially the shark and jellyfish rooms. The bartenders made excellent cocktails and the head bartender went out of his was to make sure the groom and I had drinks all night. Our reception was in Newman’s own hall, right next to the seal tank. The lighting in the space could be dimmed, but is pretty high up from the tables. The dance floor was surrounded by tables and big enough for everyone to dance at the same time. We had about 100 guests, which felt like enough to fill the space, but it could definitely fit more. The food was pretty good and the set meal we selected came with dessert for everyone, so we had cake we provided plus crème brulee on a dessert table. Everyone raved about the crème brulee. Overall, we had a great time and would strongly recommend the Maritime to other couples!
Our wedding was AMAZING! We rented the entire aquarium for our wedding and had our ceremony there as well. Guests could walk around the aquarium during cocktail hour and the recep...
tion. They even had volunteers to give tours. The food was delicious! Elisa made the planning process easy to get through and organized everything for us. All our guests commented on what a fun and unique venue the aquarium is. It was wonderful.
The Maritime Aquarium is a fantastic venue! I won't really comment on the food or service from the caterers (although both was excellent), since the Aquarium is currently switchin...
g their designated caterer and your future experience may be different. But the space itself is fantastic! There are so many great photo opportunities inside, and the nearby park along the waterfront makes for some beautiful backdrops for outdoor photos.
Our ceremony was held in the cafeteria. If, like me, you might be worried that your big day could smell like hot dogs, put your mind at ease--it's actually a gorgeous space, and when the tables are put away, you can barely tell it's a dining room. Wooden beams support a high, airy ceiling, and the red brick walls and iron accents make the space feel warm and welcoming, while also recalling the building's origins as an ironworks. A HUGE ceremony might be awkward to hold here, since the pillars could block the view for some guests in the back, but it was perfect for our smaller gathering.
We did cocktail hour among the exhibits, which was beautifully atmospheric and provided an exciting space for people to offer their congratulations and get to know one another. The Newman's Own Hall, where we did dinner and dancing, was plenty big enough for dinner tables and a sizable dance floor... though honestly, once dinner was over, our guests were so busy at the touch tanks that not everyone had time to dance.
You should be aware that whatever seasonal decor is in place at the time of your wedding likely cannot be changed. For instance, our June wedding was accented with giant rainbow banners for Pride Month. I barely noticed, but a few of our guests commented on it, so if you have a very specific "look" in mind for your wedding, it's something to be aware of. Also, don't count on any specific animals to be present--they may be asleep (especially the seals), hiding, or off exhibit during your event.
Like all aquariums, this one books up WAY in advance. We booked a year out and we only barely got the date we wanted. Make your plans far enough ahead so that you don't wind up disappointed.
Getting married here is a really special experience--I'll never forget the moment when I pulled my new husband aside for a quiet moment in front of the flamboyant cuttlefish, watching hypnotic waves of colors roll down its body. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Maritime Aquarium to any prospective couple.

ur actual day Catherine really helped us de-stress. Catherine and her staff made sure all our decorations were beautifully placed, made sure we had everything we needed to feel confident and assuage our fears, and most importantly, tamed our wild mothers who wanted to assert some last minute control.
Just as we thought, the Norwalk Aquarium gave us the best wedding experience we could have possibly had! The venue was incredible for photography and our guests absolutely loved the experience; many of our guests have reached out after the event to tell us that it was the most fun they’ve ever had at a wedding, and we believe them!
The staff were so attentive to our needs, making sure we had drinks, (both water and alcoholic beverages), and food! You could also really tell that the staff genuinely cares about the well being of the animals for whom the aquarium is home.
Lastly, Catherine we really really appreciated having you there!! You can really get down on the dance floor, and you were so much fun to hang out with!! We were so honored to have you manage our day, you really made every moment count and did everything you could to make the day a success. We really couldn’t have done it without you!
We plan to wholeheartedly recommend a wedding at the Norwalk Aquarium to anyone who loves the sea and the creatures who live in it!
Thank you again for helping us celebrate the start of our life together. We couldn’t have picked a better host!
Such an amazingly fun wedding for me and my groom, as well as the guest! I mean, seals on the dance floor...need I say more??
This venue is a great value and our wedding day itself was handled perfectly. The venue delivered exactly what they said they would and we had a great day. My only complaint was th...
eir responsiveness to emails leading up to the day. It didn't seem that I could get an answer on any questions until a month out from the wedding day. Like I said, everything worked out beautifully - they really know what they are doing - but I would have liked more timely answers to my questions.
The coordinator, staff and service is amazing and a great value. Everyone was helpful, organized and friendly. It's a fun place and all the guests enjoyed!
This venue was the only one my daughter and her fiance wanted to have their reception, so it was pretty simple. I am so happy we had the wedding at the Maritime Aquarium. The weddi...
ng was 4/26/14 and it was truly one of the best weddings I have ever attended, not because it was my daughter's choice.
The planner Lorraine Muha was top-notch, extremely organized, and made the wedding such an easy process.
The food (Philip Stone Caterers)was fantastic and so was the service, not to mention how fun the venue was in general. It was a perfect day and I would highly recommend this venue to any couple looking for a great location to have their wedding.
Thanks for a wonderful experience,
Joanne DeLuca
I was a little hesitant booking a wedding here with so few reviews out there, but we're so glad we did. It was beautiful. Everyone commented on how unique the venue was, and how we...
ll everything was done. Jackie was our original contact and she was top notch. I was worried when I heard she left, but we were in great hands with Lorraine. They are so organized and helped bring my vision to life with all our details.
The cocktail hour winds through the halls with the turtles and sharks, while the reception is in the larger Newman's Own room. Like the previous reviewer said, the photos online are of the older space. The room has been renovated and looks really nice in person. The food during cocktail hour was so good - we got lots of compliments there. There were plenty of waiters walking around with food so that wasn't an issue. Dinner was good for the most part. People raved about the filet - it was such a thick cut and perfectly cooked (medium rare). Unfortunately, the fish was overcooked which is disappointing because it was phenomenal at the tasting.
One of the only other things to go wrong was the dessert parade. They made it sound like there'd be tons of waiters out with trays and trays of desserts but I didn't see many and I only had one waiter ask if I wanted anything. I also regret booking the bridal attendant because she disappeared the last 1.5 hours which explains why she never brought our dessert tray. Oh well. At least I had my wedding cake.
Overall though, I recommend the Maritime Aquarium. Everyone loved the sharks and seals, and just everything. Bar service was great and the bartenders were funny. They also let the bridal party arrive an hour before cocktail hour so we could take some pictures inside. The setup for the reception was just beautiful. I'm really happy we had our reception here!
Just had my reception at the aquarium. There were some initial bumps- the initial onside coordinator ceased to be with the aquarium about 3 months before the event and we started f...
rom scratch with her replacement. That said, whether it was because of the switch over, or just the nature of JAckie (the new coordinator), they bent over backwards to make sure we were happy. This included giving us the run of the aquarium 2 hours before the reception started so we could get pictures, always being on hand for small issues (groom needed ibuprofen, sudden schedule change, need to hunt down a particular guest), and being sure to set aside items like the table numbers (which I had had specially printed).
The food was delicious, although as the other reviewer mentioned, dinner was served late. Everyone commented on the professionalism and courtesy of the staff, as well as the tastiness of the food, and the overall "coolness" of the experience. I'll add my wedding was the week of hurricane sandy. What minor flooding they had was all cleaned up and didn't impact the reception space anyway, and the service and food did not in anyway reflect the disaster area outside.
For other brides considering this spot, don't go off what you see on the Internet; the aquarium, including the main room was remodeled earlier this year, and most event photos on the net are from the old space.
The venue was beautiful. The service was no so great. The food was delicious, but the dinner took forever to be served. Several guests and the bride witnessed the chef shouting at ...
some of the workers also. They also tried charging us for more guests than attended the wedding bevause they screwed up the seating.
