We hired Adolphus and his team for our wedding and were super excited to work with him. We had read wonderful reviews and had enjoyed our meeting with him. He was also co-signed by our planner. However, on the day of our wedding, the dancing po...rtion ended up being the most upsetting and regrettable part of the day.
We spent time curating a two playlists. One was for orchestra pop that was to be used for before the wedding, cocktail hour, and dinner. The second was supposed to be for the dancing portion.
As a disclaimer, we were never under the impression that only music from the second playlist would be played, but instead, was created so that Adolphus would know what kind of music we liked to listen to, so that he could better cater to our tastes. We also completed a survey about what kind of music we liked and verbally discussed it, so there should have been no confusion. While our tastes lean more towards pop and country, as was reflected on the survey and the playlist, on the day of, I was horrified to find my self listening to Lil’ Jon’s “Get Low,” and other songs of that nature.
While our guests did appear to be enjoying themselves, it was a direct contrast to what we wanted, and who we are as individuals and a couple and I was honestly embarrassed to have anyone think that this is what we wanted to represent us on our wedding day. I was absolutely miserable and only danced because my wife requested that I still try to have a good time.
Overall, when music selections were reviewed during our meeting the week before the wedding, we were asked if our selections reflected the “vibe” we were going for, and we said yes. They were acknowledged by Adolphus and then completely disregarded. I completely understand letting a DJ read the room and act accordingly, however, I strongly disagree with it being at the cost of the couple’s explicit wishes.
