like we need to address the main concerns noted: - The photobooth wasn't the enclosed version expected - Guest requests weren't played after being specifically told how we handle guest requests We discontinued the enclosed photo booth right around the time the client booked and advised the open backdrop is the way we're going in the future, but we could do the enclosure for them if they really wanted it. We didn't mark this down in their file, however, so it fell through the cracks. That's on us. (The client still had the photobooth for the evening, the only difference was format of the setup, just to be clear) The guest's song requests, however, is another story entirely. There are a million great songs that are not great dance songs & the general public isn’t good at knowing the difference (hence why one hires a DJ). That said, in this particular instance, Jill actually played more of the guest's requests than I would have ever considered playing at a wedding reception, and she keeps track of those requests on her sheet. As it turns out... she still has that list... Here are the songs/artists requested by guests at this event that we DID play: Shawn Mendes Body like a back road No Scrubs TLC Everybody Wang Chung Party in the USA Turn Down for What I'm on a Boat Old Town Road In Case you Didn't Know Last Friday Night American Girl My Best Friend Come on Ride the Train Taylor Swift Who Let the Dogs Out Brown Eyed Girl Pretty Woman Ja Rule Mesmerize Requests not played & Reason: Sheck Wes by Mo Bama Not played due to high amount of profanity and generally bad dance song Sucker by Jonas Bros Good song, not a dance song Gucci Gang by Lil Pump not a dance song Panini by Lil Nas X not a dance song Viagra We're honestly not sure what this even is (musically speaking…) Moonlight Africa Edition Not a dance song Final Countdown by Europe Not at all a dance song As you can see from this list... we played way more songs requested than we didn't, some we never would normally play at a wedding (looking at you Ja Rule and TLC...) and the ones we didn't were not great dance songs in our estimation. I'll also point out that we never tell guests we don't take requests (clearly we did and do...) and that we only work from a list; what was said to the guest was they're request came at the end of the night and we already had the rest of the night's songs selected so we weren’t taking anymore at that time. But let's set all that aside for a moment and address the very last two sentences about looking elsewhere for a wedding DJ and how the client 'can't get that day back': We were at this event for over 10 hours, covering the ceremony music, cocktail hour, dinner music, grand march, first dances, emceeing the entire night for announcements and introducing speeches, setting uplighting, playing dance music for the reception & doing ALL of that without issue or complaint. But the client's biggest day of their lives was…ruined because some of their guests didn't get their songs played? Save for the photobooth mix-up we delivered exactly the services we were hired to perform; services for which, prior to now, 100% of customers over 5 years have given a positive review. That’s difficult for us to reconcile but we’ll use this feedback to review our general guest request policy going forward to avoid similar issues. Matt Owner, The Milwaukee Wedding DJ
