One of American History's treasures that you should not miss by any means if given the chance. Just mins off of I-65 and a must see for all American History lovers. What a beautiful set up with plenty of parking with elevator access for the o...
lder folks. Plan for a minimum of 3 hours just to take the house 45 min guided tour and to walk the grounds. You could actually make a full day of it for sure with time permitting. The story and history of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello is more that amazing with this building being built through a journey of 40 years. 3 of us took the tour of which tickets were $ 140.oo at the time of the posting April 2026. This includes unlimited shuttle trips to the house and grave of Jefferson. There are souvenir shops and a place to eat. check out the photos. We were on our way to williamburg va on the blue ridge parkway then saw that this was just 10 mins away. Well worth the time.

I visited this place with my aunt. I came from out of town for vacation. There was so much to see and look at. It was beautiful on every part of the land. If you are a sucker for natural beauty, this is the place for you. I like looking at the ...
histories of the US presidents. LAUREN our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. My favorite part was that small veranda out by the vegetable garden they have. I will becoming back if I come to visit again.

Fantastic tour of a complex and important founding father's home. Our guide was knowledgeable and did not shy away from slavery questions, nor did those discussions turn into villifying Jefferson. You get to think for yourself. Beautiful vista...
s. Good parking. They managed crowds well.

Monticello was quite lovely! It's rich history and beauty can keep you there all day! They have wonderful guided tours inside Thomas Jefferson's house, that range from a 45 minute tour, to longer, more extensive tours. We took our 14 year old d...
aughter and our dogs 🐕 and had a wonderful day, filled with history. My daughter has a two dollar bill she always keeps on her, so it was neat for her to have it on her on the grounds! They also have a beautiful visitor center that serves sandwiches, salads, and kids meals.

🌟 Our experience at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello was absolutely worthy of five stars—even though we were in a rushed hurry and did not have time to take the full house tour.
We only had about 30 minutes, but the Welcome Center alone was surp...
risingly rich with history. In that short amount of time, we learned so much about Thomas Jefferson—not only as a Founding Father and statesman, but also as an entrepreneur, inventor, architect, and deeply curious thinker. The exhibits helped us appreciate the remarkable range of his mind and the influence he had on early American history.
There were also very human and sobering parts of the story. We learned more about his wife, Martha, who died at a young age after a difficult period following childbirth. Thomas and Martha had six children during their ten years of marriage, but only two survived to adulthood. That part of the story adds a sadness and depth to the Monticello experience.
I’m sure the full tour of the Monticello home is even more incredible, and we hope to return someday when we have more time. But even if you only have a short window, the Welcome Center alone is worth the visit. It is educational, beautifully presented, and gives you a meaningful glimpse into the life, brilliance, and complexity of Thomas Jefferson.
Highly recommended.👍👍

This is a great destination to learn about history and get out in nature. The shops, museums and the tour guides are fabulous. The staff are very knowledgeable and personable. You can watch live archeological digs happening in real time. Th...
ey have many ticket purchase options depending on what you want to do and are handicapped accessible but for those who like to hike and walk there is a very nice walking trail up and down the mountain. There's something there for everyone. The view is blissful. Definitely a bucket list visit.

I see why Thomas Jefferson loved this place. The view here is amazing. The tour is very informative. I like how they highlighted his accomplishments. He was our 3rd president. He helped pen the Declaration of Independence. One of the founding f...
athers of this country. The tour also didn't shy away from the fact that he was a slave owner. (Even to his own children.) The grounds are well maintained. The staff were very friendly. They do honor military discounts.

Monticello is a beautiful and meaningful place to visit. The house and gardens are beautiful and the tours give fascinating insight into Jefferson’s life and ideas. I appreciated the history including the lives of those who lived and worked the...

I found this very interesting: Thomas Jefferson original Declaration proper to the it’s by Benjamin Franklin were discussed and made me want to go back and read what all was changed. One that stood out our guide Peter, talked about.. The original draft stated, "We hold these truths to be sacred and undeniable" and Benjamin Franklin edited it to say self-evident. He made 86 edits, which I was unaware of and makes for a great rabbit trail.
Shout out to your guide Peter! He was so good and answered all of our questions and made out your so interesting.
The views of the Virginia countryside are breathtaking well worth the trip.

So glad we visited on our last full day in the region. I hadn’t been here six I was a little girl. We took the behind the scenes tour which gave access to all 3 floors of the house. The guides are amazing as they gave immersive history lessons ...
as the tour unfolded. Highly recommend this tour for ages 10-100. Lots of walking though but it was beautiful and thought provoking.

I would give this amazing, historic, estate 5-stars if it weren't for our abysmal tour guide. I highly recommend you educate yourself on Jefferson's life (the good and the bad) before taking a tour here. Our tour guide clearly hates Thomas Jeff...
erson and had an agenda the entire tour. She called him a liar. She said he had no interest in religion. And she glazed over almost all of his actual accomplishments. I hope Monticello will start hiring people who can communicate the whole truth of Jefferson and his Estate and bring people the magic of our founding fathers again.
That being said, Monticello is beautiful and I was awestruck as we walked through the house, through the gardens, and even down to the graveyard where descendants are still being buried. How cool is that?? The treasures kept in the house are impressive and the architecture is something to marvel. I'm excited to go read Jefferson's biography and then return for another trip in the future (hopefully getting a more educated and enthusiastic tour guide).
