About this vendor
Let Your Love Set Sail
Pronounced mo-shu’-lu, the impressive historic Moshulu venue is docked in the harbor of Philadelphia, PA. Originally used to transport goods across oceans, the vessel is now the location of sophisticated celebrations and fine dining. Aboard the repurposed ship, you and your wedding guests are sure to find spectacular waterfront views and fond memories.
The legendary ship was built in 1940 by William Hamilton, of Glasgow, Scotland, and is the world’s oldest and largest floating square-rigged vessel. In her early years, Moshulu was considered the world’s finest achievement in the shipbuilding industry with a state-of-the-art design and features. Impressive in length at 359 feet, and with 34 sails, Moshulu started her career carrying coal to Chile and returning to Germany with coke and patent fuel. During World War I, the ship was confiscated by the U.S. Navy as prize booty and was temporarily named Dreadnought, meaning fearless. Later, the ship was renamed by Ms. Woodrow Wilson to Moshulu, meaning the one who fears nothing. After a long history of sailing around the world, in 1974 the vessel was moved to Philadelphia and converted into a restaurant and bar. Since the renovation, the historic vessel has made appearances in films including The Godfather Part II, Rocky, and Blow Out.
The blue and red vessel, complete with yellow trim, is a spacious, multi-level venue with five decks and seven private dining rooms. Located on the upper decks are two tented areas and an outdoor bar. Fastened around the deck, string lights twinkle from the ship's rope shrouds. The above deck area is also a great location for watching fireworks burst and reflect off the harbor water. Beneath the outdoor decks lies the mirrored ceiling State Room with dark wood beams. The ship's wood-frame windows allow light to flood into the elegant room and cast a soft glow across the hall. The hall also features contemporary chandeliers and golden wall lighting.
The team behind the ship strives to create a memorable experience for you and your guests and can host up to 200 people. To help plan your celebration, the on-site sales manager will work with you to coordinate details for your event. The vessel is also equipped with ivory linens and tableware. The team of chefs present couples with the option of choosing from a variety of reception packages, featuring American cuisine. To create the gourmet dishes, the finest local ingredients have been selected by Chef Anthony. The culinary team also offers a selection of signature house-baked wedding cakes to help commence the evening celebrations aboard the brilliant vessel

We truly could not have asked for a better wedding venue. From the moment we walked onto The Moshulu, we knew it was where we wanted to have our wedding. Our wedding was on 12/8/23 (we had our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception at The Moshulu). We had a little less than 100 guests, which ended up being the perfect amount of people. Jake and Rebecca were an absolute dream to work with; they made the planning process a breeze and quickly answered our many emails with detailed responses to our questions. The entire Moshulu staff was incredible and made us feel like royalty all day. They kept the suites stocked with food and drinks which was AMAZING. Everything came together better than we could have imagined, and the day went off without a hitch. Our guests are still talking about how beautiful and unique of a venue it was. The holiday decor on the ship was so beautiful and complimented our decor perfectly - it looked and felt so magical! The food was SO good. In between the ceremony and cocktail hour, they set up a table filled with hor deourves and champagne in one of the suites, so we could take a few minutes to take in the moment and have a snack before joining our guests at cocktail hour - it was such a special moment. I cannot say enough good things about The Moshulu and all of its staff. If you are considering having your wedding here, I would 1000% recommend it.
My husband and I had an amazing experience with the Moshulu for our 9/23 wedding. They are wonderful and kind and will go out of their way to make sure everything is exactly the way you want it. We worked with Jake in the beginning and he was so responsive to every single question we had, no matter how small and dumb it may have been. Rebecca was our day of coordinator and she is absolutely wonderful. She is so patient and kind and truly made sure every single thing was exactly the way I imagined it. Our guests had a great time and spoke highly of the entire wedding. They especially loved the food and the bartenders. I am so happy with our decision to have our wedding at Moshulu!
We hosted a ~150 person event in the Moshulu ballroom and we could not have been happier with the experience! From the planning to the execution, the Moshulu team was amazing and provided such a great experience. Their staff on the day-of was so friendly and helpful. The food was amazing and guests were raving about it. They were also incredibly accommodating for guests with food allergies. We hosted the cocktail hour on the top deck in November and with the heating lamps, it was the perfect temperature and guests still got to enjoy the beautiful view and special setting. This is such a unique, Philadelphian venue to host an event. Thank you, Moshulu, for such a great day.
Any questions?
I could not recommend the Moshulu as a wedding venue more! They were absolutely incredible to work with and truly the best display of hospitality I have ever experienced! From start to finish they made us feel so special and gave us the most magical wedding day. The food and drinks were amazing and guests keep saying how good they were! The boat is so beautiful and was such a cool and unique experience, especially for our out of town guests. Rebecca went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and thought of everything. The Moshulu MADE our wedding day! I would recommend everyone to have their wedding there! Everything went so well, we didn’t need to worry about anything.
Our wedding day was amazing!! despite the rain. The staff was so friendly and accommodating and always made sure to check on us. Jake helped us from day one and walked us through everything and gave suggestions based on his experience. On the day of, Brett assisted us with all our needs and made sure it went off without a hitch. We would not change a thing and we are so grateful for the team we had with us!
We had the best possible experience working with Rebecca Levitsky throughout the process of planning our wedding at the Moshulu. The venue itself is inherently special and couldn’t be more picturesque. We had 60 guests, and the mid-deck area was the perfect size for our ceremony and reception. The process of wedding planning was as smooth as possible, thanks to Rebecca being extremely organized, approachable, and proactive. Rebecca met with me and my now husband numerous times to get to know us, understand our priorities, and ensure we felt completely confident that the team at Moshulu would make our vision come to life. Rebecca was responsive and prompt in answering all our questions over email and totally open to figuring out how to accommodate our less traditional ideas (like coordinating trays of lemon drop shots to be brought out to the dance floor!). Rebecca introduced us personally to the General Manager, Brett Keyes, the Day-of-Manager, Max Toth, and many members of the team who would be working on our wedding day. Moshulu’s pastry chef, Clarence Fortune, also met with us to create the most beautiful (and delicious!) wedding cake. Everyone was deeply committed to making sure we had the wedding day we imagined. On the day of our wedding, everything was executed perfectly. Rebecca and Max communicated with us throughout the celebration and made sure we were taken care of at all times, from having food/drinks in the bridal suites to generously serving us all three entree choices! They set up our decor exactly as we described, and the staff were all extremely attentive to our guests. Everyone couldn’t stop raving about how delicious the food was and how much they enjoyed the ambiance of being on the ship. We couldn’t have asked for a better wedding day and highly, highly recommend choosing Moshulu!
We had a wonderful experience getting married at the Moshulu. Jake, Rebecca, and Michelle were with us every step of the way from our first tour to our trip to collect our decorations after the wedding. The food and service were impeccable and we loved how flexible The Moshulu was about allowing us to bring in decor and other treats. The venue is beautiful and multiple guests told us it was the most unique wedding they’d attended. We also loved the ability to have our ceremony, cocktail and dinner hours, and reception in one space. The Moshulu staff did a brilliant job transitioning between different components of the wedding with no interruptions. Jake, Rebecca, and Michelle made sure that we as the brides had nothing to worry about, and they even brought us food so we were able to eat! We highly recommend The Moshulu
When my husband and I first came to the Moshulu, we were blown away. The space is so uniquely gorgeous and cinematic, we instantly fell in love with it. From our first tour with Jake Wade (Moshulu’s sales director) through booking with him, and then multiple changes and postponements due to the pandemic, Jake was far and away the most professional, knowledgeable, gracious and kind person to work with. To the point that “OMG Jake is the BEST” were very common words throughout our planning process.
I feel so lucky that we booked at Moshulu for so many reasons.
The venue itself, besides being stunning and the perfect setting for a unique wedding, is a historical marvel, and an epic place for a history- and boat-loving family to throw a party.
Secondly, the food is EXQUISITE. I could eat the braised short rib every day, and the hors d’oeuvres were out of this world. As was our cake! That’s right, venue, catering, and cake, all in one place. No need to bring in an outside caterer or baker or any table/linen rentals. It’s all in house and perfectly handled, which takes so much stress out of the equation!
Thirdly, getting to use multiple locations on the ship was ideal! We had our ceremony on the mid-deck at sunset and looking out over the water. (It was in December, and the heaters kept all of us so warm!) Then we had our dinner and toasts and first dances in the sate dining room, which is pure magic with its wooden walls and beams and gold accents and mirrored ceilings. Then we headed back up to the mid-deck for our dance party, complete with string lights, a disco ball, and an amazing set-up for our DJ on a balcony overlooking the dance floor. This area also has a wonderful bar area where our guests were served cake, more desserts, and yummy late night snacks. (Also, shoutout to bartender Andy. We love you!)
Lastly, I know we mentioned it at the top of this review, but Jake Wade! He’s just truly wonderful. He was so accommodating of our menu and bar desires, and it was clear from the start that he would do everything in is power to help us have the most glorious event would could imagine (and we did!). He worked so well with all of our vendors and was constantly the person we knew could help us with any issue. He's also just a legitimately cool person. We felt so prioritized and taken care of by him the entire process. And Jake’s team, Brett and all the servers and bartenders, did an absolutely incredible job day-of. We cannot say enough good things about the entire crew.
Our wedding was beyond epic, and our guests are still talking about it and about how incredibly *cinematic* it all was being aboard such a beautiful ship. Cleary, we ADORE the Moshulu, and we recommend booking with them wholeheartedly.
My now husband and I got engaged in 2018 and just got married on 5/21/21. Moshulu was one of the first venues we toured in 2018 and we fell in love. By the fall of that year, we had a contract with them. Jake was in contact with us all the way. Even though we were so far out, he answered our questions, told us things we should be concerned about and things we don't need to be. He always made us feel at ease. Michelle is also extremely wonderful. During our cocktail hour, she overheard one of our guests asking what was in each hors-d'oeuvre because he was allergic to many different foods. She went out of her way to bring him a tray of food he could eat! Michelle made my husband and my plates during the reception as we were walking around greeting guests and made sure to check on us periodically throughout the night. I cannot recommend having your event at the Moshulu enough. Everything was spectacular--thanks Jake and Michelle!
We were absolutely blown away by everything about the Moshulu as our wedding venue. Jake was there every step of the way during planning and was so accommodating and helpful throughout the whole process. Michelle made sure everything ran smoothly during the event and our guests had a blast. We ended up with a chilly night, but we still opted to have our ceremony on the wheel deck and have zero regrets because it was breathtaking. Everyone was and still is commenting on what a unique and gorgeous venue we chose. Could not recommend this place enough!
This venue was amazing! We utilized every room on the upper level. It was a beautiful and perfect day for our wedding. Everyone loved the location, the ambience and natural beauty of the boat. It's a unique space, great food and perfect Philly landmark. The staff were so helpful during the entire planning process. A special thanks to both Jake and Michelle. They were great! We are so happy we chose this venue to have both our ceremony and reception. A day/night, we'll never forget.
My wife and I got married at this beautiful venue last summer and came back a year later for our 1 year anniversary celebration. First of all, the unique setting on the boat creates a truly special, romantic atmosphere and we were lucky to enjoy all the flowers which the Moshulu staff set up for mother’s day! Second of all, the service was great and the food and drinks were phenomenal- we received endless compliments from our guests!
Finally, Michelle the GM was incredible to work with, she made us feel welcome and valued, and took the time to listen to our feedback from the wedding, inviting us to host our 1 year anniversary at the venue with friends and family.
Our wedding was incredible! Jake and Michelle got every detail right and supported us every step of the way. We didn’t feel stressed at all and did not need to hire a wedding planner or coordinator. The servers were all super friendly and our guests had a blast. One of my favorite things was having our own personal server for the evening who ensured we got to eat and drink at our wedding. We would do it again if we could!
We recently celebrated our December wedding on The Moshulu and could not have asked for a more hospitable and beautiful venue. From start to finish, the experience was unbeatable. Jake and his team made the planning process so easy and guided us through many of the decisions we needed to make. We were able to drop our decorations off early and the crew set everything up for us! This was so helpful when we had other wedding activities going on in the hours leading up to the wedding. The food and cake was so delicious and beautifully presented. The unique venue with breathtaking views really wowed our guests. I heard again and again how much everyone was impressed with the awesome venue. With having the wedding near Christmas, we also were able to enjoy all the Christmas decorations that the Moshulu used throughout the ship. At the end of the wedding, we were able to just go home and come back the next day for our decorations including my bouquet and the top tier of our cake which they thoughtfully saved for us. Celebrating our wedding at the Moshulu was one of the best wedding decisions we made as they far exceeded our expectations throughout the entire process! They come highly recommended!!
I loved the Moshulu for our reception venue and working with Jake and Jesse was fantastic! They were so helpful, accommodating, and professional! I'm so sad that it drizzled on our wedding day so our guests weren't able to fully experience the beauty and the views from the Moshulu's top deck! The space was still so pretty and open despite being enclosed due to rain, and the tent/side flaps are nice enough that guests can see outside and still view the city, the water, and the Ben Franklin Bridge. The staff members were great and everything worked out perfectly! Our guests loved how unique of a reception venue it was and couldn't stop talking about the location! I love that so much is included in the cost of the venue and that they're willing to make changes to accommodate your wishes!
Not only is the Moshulu a beautiful venue for a wedding and reception, the folks at the Moshulu were super easy to work with. It was easy to get in touch with them and they were proactive about keeping us in the loop. In particular, Jesse Ridgeway did an excellent job of keeping tabs on all wedding issues for us and made the entire day run seamlessly!!! I am so glad we chose the Moshulu!
Holy cow. We just got married a few days ago but I wanted to do the review now while the excitement was still fresh in my mind. My husband and I want to do it again it was so much fun! Everyone in attendance raved about the food and the drinks, saying it was the best wedding they had ever been to. The staff was arguably the best part. Jake, the sales guy, was so awesome. He hooked us up with so many great amenities that I hadn’t even thought of. And Jesse! Where to even begin. He did everything, and I mean everything. I am not much of a planner, so I kind of just gave him a box of stuff and let him use his best judgement for everything else. He must have impeccable judgment because by the end of the night, all the guests were on a first name basis with him, telling me that I have to use him for every party I throw for the rest of my life. We had such a great time, the ship looked beautiful, the night went smoothly, and I wouldn’t change a single thing. Thank you to the staff at the Moshulu for taking such good care of us.
We had our wedding reception here in September 2017 and had a fantastic time. At first we were skeptical, but over a period of a couple months while looking at other options, it became clear the Moshulu would be a whole different style of reception venue. We thought it would pretty cool. It was even better then we hoped.
First, the staff. Michelle and Jesse were so easy to work with! They listened, made recommendations, handled things we didn't think of, and were very flexible with our requests, which included a room for a few pregnant guests who needed a getaway space. Jesse acted as day-of coordinator and was on top of things from start to finish. He even pulled the last beer that my husband was drinking and set it aside for when he wanted it (without being asked - what!). Among other things, Michelle helped coordinate the wedding party as we were all announced onto the deck. The entire staff were also incredibly attentive during the reception to both of us, as well as our parents. There wasn't a chaotic moment the entire night.
Other great tidbits:
I loved that we didn’t need to decorate; the ship and decor and scenery is absolutely gorgeous.
We had about 140 guests. We were concerned it would feel small or tight, but it didn’t at all. The back deck area was more than big enough.
It was a chilly day (50ish), so they put the flaps down and brought out a few heaters, which worked out really well.
Our guests are still raving about the food! Our two signature drinks were delicious.
I sent them a photo of a cake design and it they got it spot on.
We picked up our stuff the next day and ran into a couple who was looking at it for there venue and probably freaked them out with our enthusiasm.
The venue was great. The staff was great. The food was great. The view was great. It was a unique experience that our family and friends loved and we will always remember and be grateful for.
We just had our wedding at the Moshulu. It was better than I ever imagined. Everyone was so accomodating and responsive to our needs. Jake is excellent and very pleasant to work with. He always responded to our emails right away. Jesse is outstanding as well, he really tries hard to make sure everyone is happy and having a great time. Everyone said how amazing he was. He is very attentive to details and remembering what was important to us. I'm so glad we had our wedding at the Moshulu! It was a wonderful experience of a lifetime!
I will not stop raving about this place. Aside from the awe-inspiring venue itself (gorgeous ship on the Delaware River!) and DELICIOUS food, the staff were so helpful, I felt like I hardly had to do any work at all! Jake was there every step of the way, answering any and every question, and was so accommodating. Day off, I had three assistants from the Moshulu who were on hand to help with absolutely anything I needed. My guests will not stop talking about how awesome this place was. I'd give them 10 stars if I could!!
We had our ceremony on the Moshulu and loved it. We dealt with Chris throughout the whole planning process and he was awesome. He was responsive and flexible, especially because we kept changing the time. The day of we had Nick as our coordinator. He seemed like he was new, but that only meant he was trying that much harder to do a good job and he really did a great job. We had a rowdy wedding party and he managed them just fine. He catered to me (the bride) and helped in every way he could. Everything ran so smoothly we could not have been happier. Even our guests were amazed at how beautiful and elegant everything was. I highly recommend the Moshulu for your ceremony. I wouldn't have changed a thing.
Moshulu was a fantastic venue for our wedding day. Chris Baldwin, the wedding sales manager, was very helpful and accommodating. We had our ceremony outside on the deck and because it was January, Moshulu provided complementary heat lamps to keep everyone warm. The temperature was very pleasant even though it was in the 20s that day.
We had a very small wedding (just 10 guests plus the 2 of us) so we were able to use the Captain's dining room for our meal. The server was very good at his job, attentive but not overbearing.
The open bar and Moshulu's cake added a nice touch to our meal. It was definitely nice to have these things included in our package so we had less to worry about. (We chose not to have a reception because we don't dance but I'm sure they would have had a nice reception as well).
Moshulu was great!
My husband and I got engaged at the Moshulu so it seemed only natural that we would get married there. We love that it's unique, historic, and beautiful and the food has always been amazing. We ended up spending most of our budget on the venue but it was worth it as it included a delicious meal, amazing desserts, and an open bar. We didn't really worry about decorations because the site is so pretty on it's own.
It was a wonderful evening and I cannot thank the staff enough for being so helpful, friendly, and wonderful. They kept us on schedule and helped us get to the right place at the right time. Because it rained they moved us to the second, larger deck for dancing and it was so nice to have the extra space. I had a personal attendant, Nick, all night who brought us our own appetizer plate and got us drinks. Zach was a wonderful floor manager and made sure we had everything we needed.
I would highly recommend the Moshulu if you are looking for a unique venue, delicious food, and a great atmosphere.
We choose the Moshulu because we wanted something unique, with indoor and outdoor space, and 5 star food. The tasting blew us away, and our guests were very excited to be on a cool, historic ship for the evening. Plus the location is very close to our church, hotel, and the attractions and nightlife of Old City. Despite a shift in staffing, everyone was easy to work with as we planned the event. Ultimately the best part of choosing this venue was the service the night of our wedding. When the skies opened up the staff kicked into action creating a romantic atmosphere that made us completely forget it was raining! I had my own personal attendant who got me everything I needed all night - including holding my drink during photos and keeping my lip gloss in his pocket!!! And, they brought us a sampling of the appetizers and all three entree options so we could try them all. Really, superior service that made our night! Although we took a risk spending most of our budget on the venue, it was worth every penny.
So disappointed. We had our sons rehearsal dinners here in March. There was no heat on the bow deck because"the propane was never delivered that week" We wore our coats throughout the ordeal. The food is good but when the salad bowl was empty there were no refills. the pig that was to feed over 30 fed 15. the final straw was the ice cold coffee served only when asked for with ice cold Heavy whipping cream in the container.
I spoke to the manager to no avail. .don't put your trust in this restaurant.
The Moshulu was amazing! The food was spectacular and the service was great. But most important, the view and the atmosphere of the ship was pricelss!
I could not have chosen a better spot for my husband and I to exchange our vows and celebrate. The Moshulu has a wonderful location in Penn's Landing with views of the city, the bridges and the battleship. The food is even better than the location, everyone who attended raved about the different choices and just how excellent they were. To top it all off, the staff (specifically Darcy, Christina and Danny) were 100% amazing and helpful! If you're looking for an interesting ceremony and reception space that your guests will enjoy and remember for a long time to come, I suggest you look here.
While the food was as great as always, the service was rude. We had my bridal shower during Sunday brunch and most of the servers just seemed to be inconvenienced by everything we did. I understand it is not the norm for them, but brunch was not busy AT ALL that particular weekend.
The first event planner we dealt with seemed a little snobby, but we loved Jake (owner) and Megan (event mgr). The menu was a la carte so we put together exactly what we wanted for a reasonable price (compared to banquet halls). They were willing to work with my decorating ideas and helpful with setting up. It was exciting to have our formal sit down dinner inside the Orchid room but then drinks and dancing on the mid-deck. Beautiful views of the water, bridge, lights, and carefree atmosphere! Everyone raved about the food. Philly cheesesteak apps were the cutest and yummy. Jumbo shrimp apps were huge. Crabcakes for dinner were the best.
My event planner was very helpful and responsive. They treat you well here and really pay attention to detail. They go above and beyond what is expected and handle any request you give them without any issues. Beautiful place and very classy!
We celebrated our Wedding ceremony/reception aboard The Moshulu and we could not be happier with the outcome...The entire staff worked diligenty to ensure that our special day was perfect! Megan and her staff were truly professional and friendly and helped with all the little details that are so easy to forget on such an occassion. My husband and I love the Moshulu for regular outings and we are so happy that we will be celebrating our anniversary for years to come at The Moshulu.
