I wrote this on WeddingWire as well, but wanted to post on the Knot to emphasize my enthusiasm for this group . . .I can't say enough about Doug and New Monopoly! We hired them for our June wedding at the Belvedere in Baltimore. From the incredible degree of professionalism, to the willingness to make special accommodations such as helping my physically disabled brother hold the microphone for his toast, to the superior quality of the music and set list, these guys were the best! I would heartily recommend New Monopoly to any wedding couple.
Doug and the rest of the band were an amazing group to work with. Very responsive, very classy, and most of all, very talented. We highly recommend going with the New Monopoly for your wedding or any special event. We couldn't have been happier with them! Thank you Doug, Justin, and the rest of the band for making our day so memorable!
The New Monopoly was AMAZING!!! My fiance felt very strongly about using a band, and boy are we found Doug and the New Monopoly! They had people dancing all night long to the very end, and didn't even take their last break because everyone was having so much fun and they didn't want to lose the energy. As a result we still had a pretty good amount of people on the dance floor until the bitter end. Their song selection is extremely broad and allowed us to choose a variety of music that appealed to everyone from my high school aged cousins to our parents friends. They also learned our first dance song, which was beautifully done. It is also great how quickly they learn what is hot at that time - one of my favorite moments was when they played "Blurred Lines" and I watched my 64 year old mother dancing with the 20/30something kids of her college best friends. We couldn't have had a better time that night and The New Monopoly absolutely helped make the night perfect.
Great variety in their music (rock, oldies, new songs, Buffett to Pink and Billy Joel). Everyone at our wedding commented on how great they sounded, and kept the group dancing non-stop. They learned a new song for my father-daughter dance and did a fantastic job. Doug Lewis, the manager, was great to work with. They played most of the songs on our play list. Friends and family are still asking about the band. Would use again and recommend highly.
Although our guests danced all night and said they had a fabulous time, we would not recommend The New Monopoly. Doug was a horrible MC-- he forgot about my dad's (father of the bride!) speech, qued music at incorrect times during our introductions, horribly mispronouced names of the bridal party, initiated an awkward game and the band didn't play ANY of the songs we requested (and we had a pretty simple request asking for songs by The Beatles and Frank Sinatra). Fortunately our guests didn't notice many of these slipups, from behind the scenes this was probably the most disappointing vendor invovled in our wedding.
