My wedding was in October, and I feel that leaving no review is better than leaving a bad one. However after talking to some friends, prospective brides should know about some of these things, so I’m finally writing one. I hired Players Nouvea...u, New York Players’ smallest band. And let me say, they were great! Tracy, Jenry and the gang KILLED it as I knew they would. The dance floor was packed all night! However, the cover the band did of our first dance was unrecognizable. I almost looked to my maid of honor to have them cut it short because I thought they were playing the wrong song. (I don’t think Tracy or Jenry sung it.) In the end, this makes for a funny story and we will always laugh at it. But to a bride where the first dance is SUPER important to them, this should be known. I would have rather the band come to me prior, and say they weren’t comfortable covering the song but instead play the original on the DJ set up, than play their version. Some guests still don’t know what our song was, and it was a popular country song. Secondly, I don’t know if we were looked at as “lesser than” because we hired the smallest band, but communication was definitely lacking with us and Mike Emery. I communicated very early on that dinner would take place in a different space than dancing, and Mike assured me it wouldn’t be an issue. I sent him emails with my concerns about how everything would work, and he became very unresponsive. At one point, I had to CC my venue on an important email, because my venue needed to know information, and he wasn’t responding to me. At another point, my venue’s wedding coordinator had to reach out to him personally. Lastly, after the band had been paid in full for 14 months, and two weeks before my wedding, Mike changed our set up from having 3 musicians during dinner to 2. Then, he said he had to pay for them out of his own pocket. His reasoning is still very unclear to me, since this was all in our contract and he had been paid off for so long. But two weeks to my wedding, I couldn’t worry about this. Overall, I think NYP is a great band for parties, corporate events and other celebrations however for a wedding, I wouldn’t use them. Again, maybe it’s because I hired their smallest band, but all clients should be treated equally. I think the simple fix would be for them to have someone else coordinating things in addition to Mike, like Tracy. Tracy would be the only reason I’d ever hire NYP for another function again, because even with Mike not present at my wedding, she made the entire evening run seamlessly and according to schedule. Thanks Tracy! I hope this helps brides make an informed decision, happy vendor hunting!
