Mapping Outside the Lines exhibit is outstanding. Fascinating variety of maps with excellent descriptions. Maps ancient and modern, all well displayed.

I've never been to Newberry Library before and decided to go on a whim since I wasn't working today. For those who don't know Newberry is a research library with books and artifacts dating back to the 16th century. I sat in the lounge (you're o...
nly allowed 45 minutes) and it was amazingly and peacefully quiet. It was the quiet you never quite get here ever even in a normal library. The staff was very helpful and helped me with a niche subject I wanted to explore with my art. I will definitely go back to get more inspiration and browse. The library is archival so you can't check anything out so keep that in mind. it's a beautiful building everyone should check out at least once!

What a fabulous and unique place. Founded by a visionary person, the Newberry established itself as a non circulating public library. Many special connections and resources for genealogy research and information about indigenous tribal groups. ...
We took a free tour with a volunteer, and learned a lot.

Upon entering the building, you'll immediately become 10% more intellectual.
Which is great for intellectualling. So pile on the intellect; but don't let it get out of hand...

The Newberry library lures people with false advertising . They do not have berries of any kind fresh ones or other.

Stuffy, snooty, snitty, pretentious, self important, parsimonious, BOOMERS! Wouldn't reccomend this library to young people, POC, or the LQBTQIA+ community.

oks, and we appreciate its cultural and historical significance. We thought we might read a little, it being a library and all, or enjoy the "public" space.
However, every staff member who interacted with us was rude and unwelcoming and wasn't interested helping us see the library.
A few staff members shoved past us as we began walking in, and when I asked to take a pamphlet from the entrance desk the women just said "sure" and stared us down.
The looks and attitude were so off-putting that we left without seeing anything. I can only imagine the experience of POC, or anyone alternatively dressed, to be much worse.
I double checked the website afterwards to make sure we were within visiting hours, and we were.
The website says "open to all" more times than I can count. Thats a LIE. It is not open, not public, and not welcoming. Ew.
