The Novel Baker

We cannot thank Alexis and the Novel Baker team enough for all of the hard work they put into our wedding desserts. To start, we very much enjoyed our tasting with Alexis. She offers so many delicious cake and frosting flavors to choose from! We ended up ordering a smaller single tier cake along with an assortment of cupcakes. From the time of our tasting to our wedding day we had consistent communication and Alexis would answer any and all questions I threw her way. Her husband, Al, went out of his way to deliver our items to our venue which helped make our big day run smoothly. Our display table looked beautiful and is just what we pictured. My husband and I enjoyed the cake and our guests raved about all of the yummy options we had available. I also want to note that this isn't the first time we've had a dessert from the Novel Baker - Alexis made cake pops for our engagement, cupcakes for my bridal shower, and has made a dessert for just about every other family celebration we have had in the recent years. All of them have been absolutely incredible and I can't recommend Alexis and the Novel Baker enough. Choose them!

I couldn't recommend Alexis & The Novel Baker enough! From start to finish Alexis was so personable and easy to work with. She added zero stress to my wedding planning and I knew my cake & cupcakes were in good hands. At our first initial meeting she had the idea to put our cupcakes in individual containers. This turned out to be great because it limited our guests ability to touch the cupcakes and allowed them to take them home. I've heard nothing but rave reviews from all our guests. Thanks Alexis.. you'll most certainly see us at your adorable store front often!

2020 wedding planning was not the easiest for brides or vendors. Before the world went into turmoil, we met with Alexis from the Novel Baker, to pick out our cake flavors for a wedding that was almost two years away. We learned that with our specific venue choice, vendors treated us like we were royalty. Our initial venue choice for the reception had a very exclusive list of vendors. Once shut downs started to happen, I kept all my vendors in the loop the best I could. Some said I was the most informative bride they’d ever had, but things were changing daily! With that said, I kept Alexis in the loop. Long story short(er), I didn’t feel the same love and joy when I informed her of our final decision was to sadly cancel our initial venue and go with a venue 30 minutes from our originally one, due to the outdoor capacity availability. I felt the frustration on her end and was told that they would “try and make it” for set up a half hour before guests started to arrive. She also told me because I moved my venue 30 minutes from our originally one, she will not have time to decorate my cake with florals. If I wanted flowers, she told me someone needed to bring the flowers to her the day before the wedding. My mother, who has the heart of a saint and who is pushing 70, ended up driving 4 hours that day and luckily making it to the rehearsal on time. I informed Alexis of this added stress and she had zero empathy. She treated my mother poorly when she dropped off the flowers. After my mother’s travels back, she asked me how could I give my money to someone that treats others human beings that way. I was heartbroken she went through this the day before the wedding. Alexis ended up charging us an extra $75.00 for her 30 extra minutes of travel. Which I get, but it didn’t add up to IRS-proof mileage or wasn’t previously mentioned to us. When billing us, she lost track of our previous deposits we have made. The matradee at our new venue spoke to my husband after the reception and informed us that Alexis was not the one who delivered the cake anyway and one particular flavor of the cake wasn’t able to be served. She explained to us that the cake was so dry it was falling apart. Lastly, when we first had tasting with Alexis, she made it a point to tell us do not freeze her cake! She said she’d be more than happy to bake us a fresh anniversary cake on our 1 year so we don’t have to eat a yucky frozen cake. She explained she does this for her couples. I thought this was a great gesture and it really sealed the deal for us when deciding to go with her! At the end of our reception, the matradee handed us our 1 year anniversary cake. No decoration & flavor unknown. I guess she just wanted to get rid of us! I’m not sure why because each interaction with her was brief and she acted like we were best friends at our first meeting! Some vendors were not as nice to work with during these times, and some were SO nice and accommodating. After all, we are all going through this together! Unfortunately, Alexis wasn’t on my list of easy to work with vendors. It’s a shame, but I just cannot recommend her or her business. We wish her the best and hope she doesn’t treat any more couples this way!

Alexis did a fantastic job with all of the desserts from our recent wedding. My husband and I contacted her with only a month 's notice (we moved our wedding up a year due to personal reasons) and she responded promptly. We received an assortment of desserts for our sweets table and our guests RAVED about our cake. She was kind and patient and gave perfect estimates on how many servings we would need for each item. We will definitely use her for any parties we have going forward!

Alexis did an amazing job on our wedding cake. We even contacted her a month before the wedding and she pulled it together with no problem. We did an apple and a banana cake with the salted caramel icing...absolutely amazing! All of our guests loved the cake, no leftovers 😊 Our cake was gorgeous, put together with elegance and wonderful talent. We couldn’t have asked for anything better. We would definitely recommend Alexis and go to her for our future events.

Alexis was so wonderful to work with. She made us feel like family from our very first conversation to our cake tasting, all the way up until the very end. Her passion for baking and creating art through her cakes shined through. She helped us create the most beautiful cake that tasted heavenly, while also helping us to keep within our budget. My husband and I couldn’t wait home to get home and eat leftovers after our honeymoon. For any future events I would be sure to order a cake through Alexis. Her flavor combinations were outstanding for the fall. Carmel Apple & banana bread we’re such a hit. Thank you !!

I cannot recommend The Novel Baker enough! I'm spoiled when it comes to baked goods, as my mother makes everything from scratch - you can easily call me a dessert snob. :) When it came time to decide on a baker for our wedding cake, I was nervous I wouldn't be able to find a cake I TRULY loved. Alexis was a huge help every step of the way. My husband and I were blown away by how fantastic each and every item we tried was, enough where we couldn't decide on just one. On our wedding day, our cake (banana and vanilla cake with coffee and buttercream icing) was just as we imagined! Alexis also did a custom Batman groom's cake that turned out amazing, and all the little sweets were to die for. Our guests raved about everything, especially the chocolate covered pretzels and caramel choc chip cookies. If you are looking for dessert that not only looks beautiful, but taste AMAZING, look no further than The Novel Baker.

We had a FANTASTIC experience with Alexis from The Novel Baker! I found her through some googling and I loved the aesthetic of her cakes and her website. Everything looked gorgeous. The most important thing to me, of course, was that our cake also tasted delicious, and when we went to taste Alexis' cakes at her (adorable) studio, it was no question that we would hire her. The cake, both at the tasting and at our wedding, was moist and rich with really tasty icing. It was also very flavorful, which our guests commented was not always the case with wedding cakes (we chose almond cake). In terms of design, I had tons of photos from Pinterest and I felt like Alexis really paid attention to what I wanted, helping me hone in on which details I liked best. She executed the cake decoration flawlessly on the day of. I was really bowled over when I saw it! I spent a lot of time looking at sites like Style Me Pretty and I can honestly say that my wedding cake turned out to be my favorite of all the ones I've seen. Another thing that was important to me was the price, and Alexis' pricing is extremely reasonable. Considering that the quality of her cakes is much higher than some of the other places we tasted, I was really pleased that the price was well within our budget. She didn't push us to have a bigger cake than we needed, either, because she considered factors like other desserts we were having and how some guests just don't end up eating the cake. Even though she was coming from an hour away, since our wedding was near Philadelphia, she did not charge very much for delivery (in fact I think she lowered her delivery price for us). She is also very responsive to email, which is great; it is so much easier to trust a vendor when they are very organized, as Alexis is. My florist even told me that I had found a baker who knew what she was doing when I mentioned that Alexis preferred to place the flowers on the cake herself, rather than having the florist do it. Both my husband and I were so, so happy with the entire process working with Alexis, especially the end result (you can see it in the photos of our faces when we take our first bite!). Take it from someone who did a lot of research to ensure she was getting the best quality, both taste and looks-wise, for the best price - hire The Novel Baker!

Alexis was great to work with and our cake was gorgeous and absolutely delicious. I received many compliments on how great the cake tasted--we chose three layers with three different cake flavors and fillings and it was the best cake I've ever had. Alexis responded professionally to every request. And her bakery space is absolutely beautiful! Very much fun to visit for tastings. I would recommend The Novel Baker hands down!!

My family has used The Novel Baker on several occasions and each time, our guests come to us with nothing but amazing compliments on the cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and shimmering Oreos! Alexis and her team are professional and kind and created a stunning Sweet Table for my mother's 60th birthday bash and my nephews Baptism. My sister and mom got to experience a really adorable putting together while they sampled the various cakes and fillings before choosing which ones they wanted. I've also worked personally on multiple occasions with Alexis for wedding and stylized shoots and her cakes are always beautiful, always a novelty, and always DELICIOUS!

Utterly Amazing dessert table, every guest had to stop and stare because it was so well done. Novel baker blew my expectations away. Assorted dessert that went with the theme and were so tasty! Reasonably priced but looked so high-end! I would strongly recommend this to anyone who wants to add a wow-factor to their event!

It was important to us that we include locally made treats in our out-of-town guest bags. We asked The Novel Baker to create an Autumn Cookie package, and the final product blew us away! Each handcrafted cookie was meticulously decorated in a fall shape. And they tasted out of this world. Our guests devoured them. My bridesmaids surprised me at my bridal shower with an extraordinary dessert table created by The Novel Baker. It was beyond anything I could have ever imagined. There were tons of cookies, cupcakes and macaroons all in my wedding colors. There were even two cookies shaped like mason jars with mine and my fiance's names written on them (which matched the theme of the candy table at the shower). Alexis even went as far as to ask for a picture of my bridesmaids dresses and matched the icing on the cake to the lace design in the dress. Not only did all of the treats look amazing, but she also laid out the dessert table in a beautiful way. The whole table looked remarkable; not to mention that everything tasted DELICIOUS! Of course, I had one of everything, as did most people in attendance! There was nothing left over; it was definitely everyone’s favorite table at the shower! I would highly recommend The Novel Baker to any other bride or bridesmaid looking to add that little something special to their shower or wedding. I can’t wait until one of my friends gets married so I can use The Novel Baker again! I’ve been craving one of her incredible macaroons since my shower!
