About this vendor
The Old Schoolhouse is a historical wedding venue in Newberg, OR. Nestled in the breathtaking scenery of the Willamette Valley—complete with orchards, mountains, and vineyards—you will be captivated by the Old Schoolhouse’s history, beauty, and charm. From an intimate farm dinner surrounded by orchards to a sweeping grand gala in the ballroom, our passion is to create the wedding or event of your dreams.
Built in 1928 as a community center, The Old Schoolhouse was constructed with donations of both finances and labor. In the 1950s it became a school and later continued to serve the community as a venue for roller skating nights, parties, and polling stations. Undergoing a complete renovation in 2014, The Old Schoolhouse has now been restored to serve its original purpose as a gathering spot for family and friends.
It now welcomes soon-to-be-wed couples to celebrate their first day of marriage in a romantic, intimate setting. With its versatile ballroom and customizable floor plan, up to 200 people can be seated inside for fairytale-inspired ceremonies. Large windows surround the space for plenty of natural light, while the elegant chandeliers hanging from the ceilings cover your event in a heartwarming glow. Inside also features a designated DJ area, built-in bar, and full kitchen for your vendors to complete your big day. Couples that prefer an outdoor setting can use the hazelnut orchard. Radiating whimsy, our hazelnut orchard is perfect for ceremonies, cocktail hours, or simply stunning photographs. Lush green leaves frame the wide rows of hazelnut trees in the spring and summer, while fall brings a golden-brown blush of crisp leaves to the grove. Our nearly one-acre lawn area, surrounded by lush landscaping and beautiful blooms is the perfect backdrop for a ceremony, cocktail hour, or reception. The venue is just a 45-minute drive from downtown Portland, making for an ideal retreat from the fast-paced city life.

We really enjoyed using The Old Schoolhouse. They were accommodating and provided everything we needed. Obviously planning a wedding during COVID-19 had its challenges, but Erica was helpful and gracious as we changed our plans.
The only thing I found challenging was navigating all the rules and regulations, so if you are using this venue (which I do highly endorse), I would encourage you to have a wedding planner to help with all the specifics! As a bride who tried to do it all on my own, it was a lot of details and specifics to remember. I eventually hired a planner and then it was easy breezy.
Had my wedding here July 2nd, 2021. The planning process started during the pandemic -- it was stressful and confusing as a bride but Erica and her team here at the old school house made it so easy. She always replied to emails, she asked questions to ensure things were the way i'd like them to be, and she was helpful in recommending certain set ups.
Pandemic restrictions threw us a curveball just about every week but Erica was so flexible and accommodating. I've heard many wedding venue horror stories but our case was far from a mess.
The venue was beautiful and the perfect for our size wedding of 80 inside and 125 outside.
We went with The Old Schoolhouse's partner "Premiere Catering," and they worked so perfectly as a team. Food was amazing and service was great.
Thank you to Erica and her team, as well as Michael and his team from Premiere Catering
The Old Schoolhouse's old-fashioned, country elegance was essential in creating the fairytale/Jane Austen atmosphere my now-husband and I were looking for in a venue. We had the ceremony and reception (dinner + dancing) indoors, and cocktail hour on the lawn in between. And, the hazelnut orchards provided a beautifully magical backdrop for pictures!
For reference, we had about 115 attendees, and everyone fit comfortably for the ceremony and reception. We had 12 tables for dinner, and 3 were taken down to make space for dancing afterwards. Dinner was buffet-style, and a bartender served wine and beer from the bartending space in the back of the room. It was an unusually hot day, but we had a tent on the lawn and the schoolhouse stayed cool the entire time.
Erica and her team were very helpful during the wedding planning process, and Erica was always available to answer questions I had about the venue as well as day-of timeline, rehearsal, you name it. You'll be in good hands with this team!
Erica was great to work with!!
The Old Schoolhouse is the most beautiful venue! Decorations can be minimal because the restoration and architectural details at The Old Schoolhouse are the perfect mix of vintage, glam and pacific northwest. The orchard and lawn are drop dead gorgeous, our guests were blown away. From the beginning Erica was professional, prompt and patient with answering our (many) questions and meeting with us. She shared insight from many past wedding layouts, lighting and timelines. Lenna was so helpful at our final walk though (and I was a nervous wreck as we were only weeks away and we couldn't meet sooner due to my family's schedule) she was so patient and helped us come to decisions! We could not have felt more at home throughout the process.
And the day of our wedding was wonderful, the bridal room was perfect, quiet clean and calming with plenty of room for all the girls. And the boys loved having their own space. We could not say enough wonderful things and would choose The Old Schoolhouse and working with Erica and Lenna, over and over again!!
We are so glad we chose The Old Schoolhouse as our venue. I actually booked it 6 months before we got engaged. I knew it was the one! The spaces available (Schoolhouse, orchard, garden) are all gorgeous backdrops for memories and photos. Erica and her staff are extremely helpful, kind, and attentive. I would highly recommend The Old Schoolhouse to any couple in search of an elegant venue!
From start to finish, Erica and the team at The Old Schoolhouse were amazing! From our first tour of the property to our wedding day they were professional, friendly, and extremely helpful. In terms of the property itself, WOW is it stunning! There are so many beautiful and multi-functional areas to be utilized. We chose to have our Monday morning ceremony inside the Schoolhouse itself. We loved how beautifully simple and elegant it was! The hardwood floors combined with the beautiful crisp, white walls, the gorgeous chandeliers and windows really provided an amazing backdrop for the ceremony. We loved that there were so many options for what we could do for decor - literally everything can go with this space! Our reception was outside on the lawn. There is a ton of space! We had a 30x90 tent covering the gravel area for our food and seating, and had enough space on the grass to set up croquet, ladder ball, giant jenga, giant checkers, bocce ball.....with room for a popsicle cart and space for kids to run! The hazelnut orchard on the property was a gorgeous space for our first look and private vow exchange.
For behind the scenes spaces, the bridal suite is lovely! There were plenty of antique desks with large mirrors and great lighting for getting ready, and a separate room with couches to just hang out on! The grooms quarters provided plenty of space and another comfy couch for the guys to hang out on while waiting for the ceremony.
I have to say that Erica and her team went above and beyond for our special day. In the days leading up to our wedding the forecast suddenly changed and it looked as though it might rain. Erica was so flexible and was willing to change the setup of the space the night before if necessary so as to avoid the rain. Luckily, we had gorgeous sunshine on the day of, but I still appreciated her willingness to go with the flow (aka the weather!). Erica was also amazing in that she provided a lot of great suggestions during the planning process of what our setup might look like, what vendors she recommended, how the day might flow, etc.
All in all, choosing The Old Schoolhouse for our venue was a fantastic choice! Located out in wine country with beautiful natural scenery, extremely helpful staff, and an affordable price (especially on weekdays!), the Schoolhouse served as the perfect place for our best day ever!
I cannot praise The Old Schoolhouse enough. They were very responsive and accommodating throughout the entire planning process leading up to our wedding day and took their already exceptional service one step further on the day of our wedding. Every staff member involved ensured our wedding ran smoothly, they took care of our guests and somehow managed to elevate their service and tailored to us, the bride and groom. Aside from the phenomenal service, the venue is simply gorgeous. From the orchard where we took our family photos that turned out beautiful. to the manicured lawn where we had our ceremony, to inside the schoolhouse that provided an intimate setting for all of our guests, you just can't go wrong with The Old Schoolhouse. I wish we could get married again just to use the venue one more time!
Erica and Amanda were easy to work with, professional, and went above and beyond to assure the wedding ran smoothly. Communication was easy and prompt, and they both had a great attention to detail. The venue and grounds are breathtaking. We had simple table setting with lovely flowers, and we did not need much to create a warm and inviting space. The fee included all the tables and chairs, time for set up the day before, and plenty of time day of, for us to get ready. We looked at many places in the PDX area, and The Old Schoolhouse was by far the most beautiful spot. Five stars is not enough! My daughter and her husband are so happy they chose The Old Schoolhouse. They truly had the wedding of their dreams.
If we could give more stars, we would!
We just got married on June 21st this year and had the most perfect day, and a HUGE part of that was thanks to Erica and her team at The Old Schoolhouse!
From the tour date to our wedding day, Erica was extremely helpful and always quick to reply/answer any questions or concerns we had. She was so easy to work with and flexible to any ideas we had.
As someone who is new to this wedding thing, planning and making big decisions (especially picking the venue!) was overwhelming and stressful. But once we visited The Old Schoolhouse, we knew this was the place we wanted to say 'I do" and it was the best decision we made during the whole process! From that day on, the stressed decreased and felt like we were in good hands! Erica provided us with tons of vendor recommendations (which we used and LOVED!) , gave her advise and was always willing to make our ideas work. I felt like i asked more questions than normal and sent about 2-3 emails weekly, but she would always ensure me that she was there for us and I never once felt like I was bothering her or asking silly questions.
The venue itself was beautiful, the perfect size and we loved the ability to be inside or out. Our guests could not stop telling us about how beautiful the grounds and ballroom were. We really didn't need much decor at all, due to the fact the facility is breathtaking by itself and had all the functions you could need (bar,AC,kitchen etc), it really made planning easy!
For anyone who wants a breathtaking views, stress-free planning and unique-beautiful wedding, this is the place for you!
The Old Schoolhouse and Erica's team were impeccable to work with to make our day perfect, and truly one never to forget! I was so impressed with the help and guidance for what could be a stressful day for some brides. I felt very relaxed. Our bridal suite was so comfortable to get ready in, with great lighting for makeup application, and enough vanities for all of my bridesmaids to get ready at the same time! The grounds where we had our photos and ceremony were very well manicured and gave so many options for ceremony site (which we had on the lawn), and first look (in the orchard). The Schoolhouse itself is so dreamy, and fit perfectly with our vintage/French inspired (with a touch of rock 'n roll) wedding. It comfortably held our 100 guests with ample room for dancing. I love the touch of the built-in DJ booth, and bar area, so it does not take up space needed for guests or catering. The price was incredibly reasonable and includes round tables, and 3 large wooden farmhouse tables and chiavari chairs, which adds to the elegance. We rented additional farmhouse tables, but could have easily used the round tables to save money. I highly recommend booking if you are looking for an intimate wedding site in the middle of wine country without the vineyard pricing.
Loved this place and the family that runs it! It is beautiful in all seasons. They were very helpful in the planning process and on the day of our wedding too. They worked extremely smoothly with all our other vendors and the wedding went perfectly thanks to their efforts.
Erica and The Old Schoolhouse team were a dream to work with. We had a vision for the look and feel for our day and they were responsive, supportive and accommodating in allowing us to view the venue a couple times, as well as communicating and giving feedback on what would work best in their space. The venue was extremely well kept and was such a lovely atmosphere to spend and experience our entire wedding day. There are multiple locations for photos as well as the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception to take place which allowed us flexibility in our timeline. We really couldn't have asked for anything more!
We held a fundraiser at this event and it was the perfect location. The space is gorgeous and the owners were amazing to work with!
The Old Schoolhouse is a breathtaking oasis. The building is charming and elegant, and filled with so much charm and beauty. Every corner of the building speaks for itself from the high ceilings and wood floors to the gorgeous chandaliers and large windows. The bridal suit is a lovely addition to this venue as the entire bridal party was able to gather and get ready before the ceremony began. The groom's suit was the perfect gathering spot for the men to get ready and enjoy the countdown before the ceremony. The garden is beautiful and well kept, and the orchard makes for stunning photo backdrops. We snuck away into the orchard for our "first look" photo shoot. Erica and family were kind and delightful to work with. They were helpful with many of the wedding details and well prepared for our big day. We were beyond blessed to share our special day with family and friends at The Old Schoolhouse.
The Old Schoolhouse was the absolute perfect venue! We had a chic elegant theme and the interior of the venue was the perfect fit for us. Everything about the venue is perfect!! The gorgeous chandeliers, the beautiful mirror backdrop, the hardwood floors, the vintage design is absolutely incredible! The owner of the venue was incredibly helpful with ideas, rehearsal, and getting everything prepared on time. I would recommend anyone to get married here. The options are so versatile as you can have both ceremony and reception indoors, ceremony outdoors with a gorgeous backdrop and reception inside... I couldn't be happier with how our wedding turned out!!
The Old Schoolhouse was the perfect venue us to get married! We loved that it was a historic venue and the orchard was the perfect backdrop for our photos. Erica was very helpful throughout the whole process. I highly recommend this venue to get married!
The Old School House is such a unique and romantic venue, we really relied on the building and grounds to be the focal point for our vibe and "decor". I felt that I had complete freedom to use the entire facility and grounds as I pleased. Which was quite nice since we were literally "dragging" vintage couches through the orchard. Erica was accommodating and really helped keep things low key and casual which was our number one goal. The beauty of the Old Schoolhouse is that it's ready to capture whatever theme or vibe the bride could want.
This venue was a dream come true! The venue itself is absolutely gorgeous, and can fit nearly every themed-wedding there is. The staff were kind and professional, and truly cared about making my husband's and I's day perfect. They were willing to work with my outside vendors and coordinator to make every detail on the day of run smoothly. The only thing that I wish I could have changed was the amount of time allotted for the wedding day. Since there was a strict time frame, the entire day felt very rushed. We got there and immediately had to rush through pictures in order to be done before guests started arriving for the ceremony. There were several pictures that my husband and I wanted but due to time constraint, we never were able to get them. Overall, the venue was a dream, but I do wish that the venue provided more time on the wedding day- I even would have paid more for it!
The Old Schoolhouse is a very unique venue. I did not expect to see an area so beautiful in the Portland area. It portrays a perfect mix of country charm and elegance. They're collection of vintage china adds to the uniqueness of the venue. The staff of the Old schoolhouse was also very helpful. They made it feel like everything was always under control and taken care of, what a great experience.
