Established in 1885, The Original Montana Club is Helena, Montana's premier historic venue for weddings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, corporate events, and private celebrations. Located in the heart of downtown Helena, our beautifully restored landmark combines over 140 years of history with exceptional hospitality, fine dining, and timeless elegance.
Originally founded during Montana's gold rush, the Club quickly became the gathering place for the state's business, political, and community leaders. Following the 1904 fire, the building was redesigned by renowned architect Cass Gilbert, whose iconic works include the U.S. Supreme Court Building and the Woolworth Building. Today, his architectural vision continues to provide a breathtaking backdrop for life's most meaningful celebrations.
The Original Montana Club offers several distinctive venues under one roof, allowing couples and hosts to create unforgettable experiences from ceremony to reception. Our sixth-floor restaurant, 1885 Steakhouse, features refined dining, panoramic views of Helena, and an elegant atmosphere perfect for wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, and anniversary celebrations. The historic Oval Room provides an intimate setting for private dinners, executive meetings, and small celebrations, while the light-filled Garden Room is ideal for bridal showers, brunches, baby showers, afternoon tea, and intimate ceremonies. Beneath it all, the historic Rathskeller offers a one-of-a-kind cocktail lounge, perfect for welcome parties, rehearsal gatherings, bachelor and bachelorette celebrations, and late-night receptions.
Our culinary team creates memorable dining experiences featuring premium steaks, fresh seafood, seasonal ingredients, handcrafted desserts, and thoughtfully curated wine and cocktail programs. Hi! I am so proud to be the event coordinator here at the Historic Original Montana Club. Helping folks on one of the most important days of their life, is a job I take seriously.
I certainly have a bias, but I feel that the Montana Club is one of the most beautiful venues for a wedding, rehearsals, and receptions. For 140 years the Montana Club has been the most iconic spot in Helena for celebration. Having your special day here at the club makes you a part of Helena's history, you become interwoven into the story of this beautiful building.
One of the greatest joys of this job has been hosting celebrations for multiple generations of Montanans. The heartbeat of this building is our clients and the beautiful moments that they share with us. Start your forever here!

Member host and bartender Avery Akins in particular goes the extra mile to greet and tend to guests and make everyone feel welcome. I am a fairly recent member and have had nothing but top notch service at the Montana Club.

ht. We appreciated how attentive and service focused the bar staff was. A helpful improvement would be to provide a wine/drink list- we were told that there wasn’t one.

erlooking downtown Helena and the surrounding mountains. You can really feel the history in every detail.
We started with the mushroom puff pastry appetizer — perfectly flaky, rich, and full of flavor. For the main course, I had the roasted chicken with creamy potatoes au gratin and glazed carrots cooked beautifully and full of comfort-food goodness. Everything was seasoned and plated with care.
Service was friendly, the beer was cold, and the view from our window table was incredible as the sun set over the city. This place captures the soul of old Montana with an upscale yet cozy dining experience.
Highly recommended for anyone visiting Helena whether for a romantic dinner, a special occasion, or simply to enjoy great food in a timeless setting.

We made reservations for the new 1885 Steakhouse. Our waiter Shane (if I remember correctly) was fabulous and the bartender was fantastic. The steaks were good, the lamb was amazing (and I’m not the biggest fan of lamb), and the view was stunni...
ng on the 6th floor of the Montana Club. They were still working out the logistics but for the most part it was a nice experience. I would recommend for an upscale dining experience downtown. They do charge for extras… like smoke for your drink $2.00 and a few other things was not expecting… but overall not bad.
Side note: they are limited on their drink offerings due to the fact their bar is very small. They have to run down to the Rathskellar for things they run out of.
The acoustics are a bit echoey when there are a lot of people and can get loud. They said they are looking into getting sound panels for that. Those should help. I will go back in a few months and check things out again.
