The Palm first opened in New York City in 1926, the brainchild of Pio Bozzi and John Ganzi. John and Pio had just arrived from Parma, Italy, and wanted to open their own business paying tribute to the name of their hometown. However, their strong Italian accents led to a mistake during registration, and so "Parma" was listed as "Palm."
