About The Poor Farm Event Center
Long before modern welfare systems existed, counties created “poor farms” as places where individuals and families down on their luck could live and work with dignity. Built in 1869, the Pierce County Poor Farm in Ellsworth, Wisconsin has stood as a meaningful part of the community for more than a century.
Over time, the historic property has been thoughtfully restored and reimagined. What was once a working poor farm has evolved into a warm, welcoming space designed for gathering, celebration, and connection — while still honoring its rich past.
Today, The Poor Farm Event Center features a beautifully maintained home with seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, offering comfort and flexibility for wedding parties and guests. The main level includes inviting spaces for preparing, relaxing, and celebrating, including a bridal suite and dedicated hair and makeup room. The lower level, once a dirt basement, has been transformed into a functional gathering space with a full commercial kitchen, ideal for celebrations and wedding-day preparations. Upstairs, guests will find additional suites, bathrooms, and cozy areas designed to feel comfortable and lived-in rather than formal.
Over the past decade, the property has grown into a charming and versatile event venue set on nine acres of scenic countryside. Rolling lawns, peaceful views, and a picturesque barn create a setting that feels both intimate and open — perfect for weddings, rehearsal dinners, baby and wedding showers, graduations, reunions, and more.
Blending rustic charm with modern comforts, the venue offers indoor and outdoor spaces designed to adapt to your vision. Guests can enjoy a welcoming barn complete with a wet bar, refrigeration, kegerators, and on-site ice, along with thoughtful amenities like ample seating, cozy wicker lounge areas, and a play space for children.
Whether you’re planning an elegant wedding, a meaningful family gathering, or a corporate event, The Poor Farm Event Center offers a setting that feels genuine, relaxed, and personal — a place where history, hospitality, and celebration come together.
