Kind of surprised there isn't a TheKnot review yet, so here goes. We had our wedding here this past weekend. Our guests had the best time, hence the five-star rating. Pros and cons...
listed below (pros by far outweighed the cons). In the name of price transparency, we spent nearly $70k for 75 guests after taxes and fees.
Pros:
Location: Venue is easily accessible via multiple subway lines and buses. Guests had an easy time getting to and from there.
Space: We had our ceremony and dinner/dance on one floor, and cocktail hour on this really lovely terrace on a different floor (there was a plan in place in the event of rain). No other events were booked for the day (this is by design), and we had zero wedding crashers.
First look location: We were able to do our first look at Nubeluz, the rooftop bar at the Ritz. Fantastic views.
Food & beverage: Even the most basic package has plenty of food, and includes an open bar. No guest left hungry, and the included cake was fantastic.
Staff: Everyone we interacted with was very responsive and did their best to accommodate requests. The venue coordinator, Chelsea, was a pleasure to work with, and was there for the duration of the event for any troubleshooting. She watched my bouquet like a hawk, and helped the photographer move furniture around for first look photos. She also brought me and my husband food from cocktail hour right after the ceremony ended, so we actually ate something during the wedding. Chelsea went above and beyond, truly.
Preferred Vendors: The Ritz has a great list of preferred vendors, but you are not required to stick to the list. We went with a preferred planner/coordinator, and she was wonderful.
Cons:
Additional audio cost: You have to use their in-house A/V team, and this will, depending on what you need, tack on another $1,500-5,000+ to your invoice.
No included "get ready" area: The bridal suite (which was included) has a check-in time of 4pm, but most brides need way earlier than that to get ready. We were able to get an 11am check-in, but that couldn't be confirmed until a few days prior to the wedding. For peace of mind, I booked a suite for a family member, and got ready in their room the morning of. This is another additional cost to take into consideration.
The pros by far outweighed the cons. This is a really wonderful option for anyone planning an NYC wedding and looking to splurge a bit.
