Not handicap accessible! They “say” they have a “lift” yet there are no hand rails outside to their lift! Their “lift” was also locked up. Don’t make “we rent this building” as an ...
excuse. Your horrible! As my mother went up the stairs the old lady had to let everyone know that she was slow. For my first time looking for a wedding dress and my first place, it was absolutely horrible!!! I should have known with just how they treated my mother with how the rest of the time would go during MY scheduled time. So unprofessional I left crying! I’m a bigger girl so dress shopping is already stressful. You would think they would have had workers to help but she was to busy helping everyone else. I was not a priority! I shouldn’t have to ask for help during MY scheduled appointment. My time nor value was not a matter to them. Their “$99” sale is a scam. Their “$10” sale only goes up to size 12. They have very few select dresses in larger sizes. They judge you when you look at other dresses a different size than you, even though they “say” they can order dresses. I asked for a “bird cage” short veil. The lady that I was suppose to be getting help quickly said “we don’t have those.” As she just didn’t want to help me. When we walked out they were hanging up. I was there for 30mins and already was judged and over being there! DONT GO!!! You will regret it!
My daughter and I found info on this store on Facebook. We went in last Saturday to look for a reception dresses (she is newly engaged) and ended up buying “the”wedding dress, rec...
eption dress and veil! We would have spent close to $5,000 had we paid full retail. We walked out paying under $1,300. People may be skeptical due to the low prices, but they are low because this store is buying in bulk from other stores going out of business. They had tons of jewelry, tiaras, and several bridesmaids dresses too. If you don’t mind off the rack, this is the place to go.
The absolutely worst place ever !
I bought and had my wedding dress altered here. I would heartily recommend, but I admit that I had no one else to compare them to as my first dress try-on was here and I didn't go ...
anywhere else.
I was able to get my dress on sale at $100, and alterations came out to be about $750 to shorten it, fix a back button, bring in the bodice, and remove an inner layer. This was done over 7 fittings, although they originally said it would only be 4. My main gripe was them having the dress since February, but not finishing it until 2 weeks before my wedding in early August.
Also, one of the assistants was short with me during a few of my fittings, being curt that I had Friday afternoon appointments, and I was keeping her from leaving early. Then scheduling my "final" fitting, I was promised I could do it the Saturday of my bachelorette party, only to be called rudely two days later on Father's Day for someone to tell me angrily that no, I couldn't have it on that Saturday and that they don't move appointments sooner, only later. My girls weren't able to see my dress until the wedding because of that.
The alterations all turned out well, and my dress fit perfectly! But I can't say my experience was perfect as well.
Not sure where to start on dresses, look no further than here! The sewing lady was a gold mine for my bridal party - after being disappointed by several boutiques we came here and ...
found THE dress for thousands less. Within an hour my mom found a beautiful gown and even my grandma. First fitting we brought the bridesmaids and everyone found perfect gowns that were beautiful and glam for my New Year's wedding while spending less than $150 each!!
My goal in writing this review is to save at least one bride from the stress of having her dress altered here. The sewing lady was actually recommended by the shop where I purchase...
d my dress, and I’ll be contacting them separately to let them know of my experience.
- they made me cry at my first appointment because they wouldn’t let up about how my boobs sit “so low” and how if I didn’t pay extra to have a bra built in, the dress would look bad.
- I paid around $800 and came in for 8 separate fittings. These things wouldn’t bother me as much if I felt like the dress fit perfectly by the end. The straps were too long after I asked several times for them to be shortened and they fell during my first kiss ruining the photo. They actually told me they wouldn’t shorten the straps any more because then they would be too tight and I asked them to do it anyways, which they obviously didn’t. The bodice fit poorly and had wrinkles in almost every photo. The bust also didn’t fit well and kept gapping, this might also be because the straps didn’t fit me. I wish I could attach the photos to this review.
- Three weeks before I wedding and at my fifth fitting (2 weeks apart each) they still hadn’t started on the hemline. I’m honestly not even sure what they touched in those first 5 appointments other than building in a bra that looked no different than the one the dress already had. Each appointment it seemed like they were just fixing the work they had already done, then sent me home. I stressed to them how I was starting to worry because my wedding was 3 weeks away and questioned if it would be done in time, they assured me they’ve never missed a wedding and I had nothing to worry about.
- 10 days before my wedding and at my 6th fitting when I tried the dress on it was realized by the seamstress that nothing had been worked on in the two weeks since my last fitting. They still hadn’t started on any layers of the hemline. I was told there was nothing they could do that day and I needed to come back over that weekend a few days later.
- One week before my wedding I came in and it seemed like everything would be done, they just wanted to touch up the hem a bit, shorten the very inside layer (which hadn’t been touched) and press it for me for free to make up for the last appointment which seemed nice.
- 3 days before my wedding I went in for a final try on and the hem still was too long. I was at the shop for an hour and 45 minutes while they finished the dress on the spot. You can imagine the stress an unexpected almost 2 hour appointment puts on the bride the week of the wedding.
- The one thing I don’t have a photo of is the severe bruise on my side caused by the boning in the dress. I still have the bruise after more than 2 weeks since the wedding (and throughout the honeymoon) and fully believe if the dress fit me it wouldn’t have done bodily harm.
0/10 would NOT recommend! My heart is broke! Lady said it “wouldn’t be much” to alter my wedding dress, so I bought it for 800$, then I went to the alterations appointment & she c...
omes out with a quote that was more than I paid for the dress 850$. If I wanted to spend more than 1700 on a dress I wouldn’t be shopping at a bargain weeding dress shop. Sold me a size 15 told me “it won’t be that mush” to make it a size 7…What a scammer!! Now I have 8 weeks to resell, find a new dress & get that altered by oct 9 😭 she has honestly ruined everything! Don’t go here. If I could give 0 stars I would!
I got married on 01/08/2022 and had The Sewing Lady alter my dress! Not only did they do such an amazing job but they were super easy to work with! When I took my dress to them I w...
as living in Arizona (wedding in Indiana) and i was worried about scheduling my appointments. They changed their personal schedules to accommodate me and were able to get my dress done in 3 fittings instead of 4 or 5. They are also the sweetest family owned business! They may be a little more expensive than other alterations places but they are worth every penny in my mind!
Totally disappointed! She charged $800 for alterations to include the bustle - which was horrible - I paid $1600 for my daughters wedding dress and the bustle was horrific! On to...
p of that I paid $175 for her veil and when we were there for the fitting the veil was “unavailable” because she was using it to make “patterns” so she could sell them on her own. Alterations were 3x what my mom paid in Castleton for a ton more work. Overpriced and NOT happy she used the veil I paid for to make more money for herself. And the bustle was a cosmetic and functional disgrace.
Seriously one of the wildest experiences?!? Worst customer service. Went in late June for flower girl dress. Wedding in October (first weekend, 10/3) My flower girl loved the idea ...
of getting to “build her own” we tried on the exact dress she wanted there. Added a belt. It was so beautiful and what she wanted! They said they had to recreate because they couldn’t have her take that exact dress. We paid in advance because we were sure. She said we could do a fitting in a few weeks- all parties decided to wait until 2 months before due to her in a growth spurt. Came to our 1st fitting expecting the dress to be complete- driving from out of town. They took her measurements the first try on. The dress was NOT in her measurements it was still 4 sizes too large. It didn’t have the tulle on it they just stitched the belt on the front not in the back. They scheduled another appointment for a month later (1st week of September) and we understood because things happen- no biggie. Week of the apt. I called to make sure it would be done this time- they said yes- then call the next day to say no and cancelled the apt on me. I had an apt the next week given it would be done (3 weeks before the wedding). Then they called again to cancel that apt.(the 3rd apt now!) And change it to 2 weeks before the wedding because they simply didn’t have time to do her dress (which was ordered WAY ahead of time). I was beyond frustrated at this point. We were just under a month from the wedding and they kept cancelling on me. I didn’t want to wait till 2 weeks before to get her first actual try on- what if it needed a change again?? I expressed this and they said and I quote, “it is what it is”. We didn’t want the order cancelled because my flower girl (my little sister) wanted it and she is picky about clothes and we both liked it. I like amazed at how rude they were on the phone. The receptionist/desk worker actually called me back after I spoke to the main lady apologizing for how rudely they other gal treated me. The next day the main owner lady called me back (3 weeks before the wedding at this point) and totally cancelled my order even though we wanted it. She said “what you want we don’t have time for”. Even though I came in WAY early for what I needed to. Literally cancelled the order ON ME! When I said “what do you expect me to do at this point” her response, “oh honey- just go to David’s bridal and buy a take home dress”followed by “you know your wedding won’t be prefect right?” Why would you tell a bride that?? I know it won’t be but what type of vendor are you?? I didn’t expect for perfection and I felt like I rolled with their mistakes rather gracefully up until the last cancel. Nothing against David’s bridal because we were able to find something but ?????? What an awful manner to have with a customer. I was not happy and neither was my mom with the lack of respect, rudeness and how the owner had no care about what happened with my order🥴
I read reviews that didn’t give the best reviews on Yelp before and I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED!! I thought well- she likes it.. They were nice at a bridal show so it must be okay?? Ladies STAY CLEAR! Take your business elsewhere. I wouldn’t trust or recommend them EVER!!!!! I don’t write reviews but I had to here.
The Sewing Lady did a fabulous job altering my dress and did so at a very affordable price! Even with the set-back of covid19 they were able to get me in for fittings and have my d...

owing and I was not disappointed!! Even with Covid popping up, she got everything done very quickly and made the whole process incredibly easy!
Diane and her team, truly were My Fairy God Mother’s. They were so amazing and worked so hard to make my dress fit perfectly. I drove 2 hours each way to get to the shop and had 5 ...
trips total. It was totally worth the drive and they went above and beyond to make me look perfect for my perfect day. They offer a great selection of accessories, veils, and flower girl dresses. I bought it all there. I would highly recommended Diane and her team! Thank you!!!
Don't go! I had contacted them requesting a quote for 2 gowns I needed. Was given a price..great! No! It changed 3 more times in less than 2 months! To be told they didn't have the...
original belts I ordered. No one knew what was going on. I was asked several times after placing my order what size dresses I needed. When the dresses we're picked up I still had 1 that was the wrong size! I'm so tired of dealing with them I will just have it altered by someone else. I was also told there was a 50$ balance on my account. It had been paid in full two weeks prior. They will try to scam you out of every penny they can! Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere else! I'm glad to have the dresses, but could have spared the headaches!
My first appointment at The Sewing Lady was great! I really enjoyed working with the owner to develop my bustle design and other alterations. My follow-up appointments weren't q...
uite as easy though. The first one, not all alterations were completed as we agreed, and the individual helping me try on and work the bustle, didn't know how to work the bustle. It took quite a while and in the end they had to keep the dress to finish the remainder of the alterations. The next follow-up appointment was better, most alternations were complete, but the second person to help me also didn't know how to work the bustle. Also they didn't do any of the finishing work yet. I had to come back a final time after the finishing work and steaming was completed. In the end, my dress was great and all the alterations were completed in the right way. It just seemed like there some lack in communication in how things worked. Overall though, the issues were minor in the grand scheme of things. I would recommend them for your alterations - especially if you are in a time crunch - they have great turnaround time!
I used The Sewing Lady for alterations because they are affiliated with the place I purchased my wedding dress. The alterations are well done, but the service could be more efficie...
nt. I live an hour away and had to go six different times for minimal alterations. A couple times I went they had not made any changes which was frustrating. I also started the process well in advance and they did not have my dress done until the week of the wedding which made me nervous. The staff is really nice and they definitely have a lot of experience, but they could improve their efficiency for the sake of their brides.

hop has an intimate feel of familial love and grandmotherly care. I had my dress fitted there to perfection - they took in the bodice, hemmed the length, fixed beading, and perfected my delicate capelet. One little note: if you need anything done quickly, this may not be the best place for you as this is a small team of careful seamstresses who give each piece the care and time it deserves. If you want to experience your dress fitting with people who take the time to get to know you and your dress, while supporting a local business, The Sewing Lady is for you.
I had a lovely experience working with The Sewing Lady. They were always so friendly when I came in. My dress was a Stella York with some intricate details and I needed some pret...
ty major alterations done to my dress. When she was finished with it, you couldn't even tell it had ever been changed! She did an excellent job! I would definitely recommend her services.
I decided to go with her because of the amazing reviews. I gave her my dress and measurements for my flower girl dress in February. The week before the wedding (after hearing "it'l...
l be done next week" multiple times) I find out that she lost the measurements and was going to "wing it by memory". Talk about livid. She did refund the money for the flower girl dress which ended up being 4 inches too short, but I still haven't heard back after confronting her about the unfinished bustle. That's right, after the ceremony, we tried to bustle the dress only to find the bustle incomplete and ineffective. Save the time & money and go elsewhere. You would think after over 4 months she would have theminor alterations complete, but that wasnt the case. Maybe I should have known when she kept saying "no person is more important than another". Maybe I'm crazy but I did expect my wedding gown to be more important than the hemming on somebody's pair of jeans.
After purchasing my gown from a commercial bridal shop, I had a sales woman tell me, “Don’t you know you’re not supposed to eat once you get engaged,” during my gown inspection. I...
knew immediately that I wasn’t going to have my alterations done there. (PS – I’m a size 6) I went to The Sewing Lady and she was just a joy. Kimberley made me feel so special and so beautiful in my gown. We scheduled many fittings and never did I feel rushed. She made a custom veil to match my gown and truly took her time to ensure that all of my needs were met. I felt like I had a family member altering my gown. I will definitely go back with other alterations.
Kimberley is such a talented seamstress - she altered my dress and made my veil and was really affordable.
