Hi! We are The Spragues. I am Daniel and my wife is Katherine. We would love to talk about documenting your event so that you and your family can look back on your day for the rest of time, but first let me tell you a little about us. We obsess over coffee. We pine for all different types of delicious food. Speaking of, we love to cook! We endlessly thirst for travel to new places and and to revisit some of our favorites locations in the world. Italy and Australia being some of our favorites. We have an 8 year old daughter who is incredibly strong willed and we love her! Ok, that is probably a good enough introduction, we can talk more over coffee or beer!
Our Experience
My journey in photography began when I attended school for photojournalism. There, I was taught by some incredibly photographers how to watch for real moments and be ready to capture them in order to tell their story. After school Katherine and I started our business and she has been shooting with me ever since. Over the years Katherine has developed her own Photography career in food photography. We have been shooting together since 2009. We have been married since 2007. We have been together since 2003! To say that we work well together is an understatement!

I could not have asked for a better photography experience. In our case, we had TWO experiences with The Spragues: our engagement shoot, and then our wedding day. My husband and I...
had such a great time (and such fantastic results) with our engagement session, that there was no question who we were going to hire for our wedding.
It's abundantly clear from their portfolio that Daniel and Katherine are extremely talented (and have an aesthetic that we were really drawn to). But what's less immediately clear is how much they care about what they do, and how dedicated they are to their clients. They know how special your event is for you, and they do what they can to be contributory to a successful day. They are great communicators throughout the process, and are willing to hear you out no matter what your requests are, and then take the time to make thoughtful suggestions to help make your ideas really shine.
They will also--and I didn't even know this was a thing until it was happening and I very much needed it--ADVOCATE for you. They facilitate a pre-event discussion about what YOU want, and then they don't let anyone (guests, pushy parents, etc.) deviate from making sure that you have everything that you asked for. I'd like to be clear that they are NOT rude or unkind in ANY way, but they know how to be professional and get a job done. Watching Daniel organize everyone at the wedding was a revelation and relief--especially when the group seemed completely dedicated to being like herding cats, or a pushy guest wanted to step in and lend his VERY inexpert direction regarding what group shots should be taken.
I also ended up with a shocking number of incredible photos. I am genuinely not a photogenic person. This is not a self-deprecation. Oftentimes people will be like, "what is happening!?" because I am so often nearly unrecognizably awful in a photo. But I have so many photos that I absolutely adore from my wedding that my wedding album is 91 PAGES LONG. I KID YOU NOT, THAT IS THE ACTUAL PAGE COUNT. And that's after painstakingly culling out the Loves from the Slightly-Less-Loves.
Furthermore, they are just cool people. Although we only had Daniel at the wedding, he was able to mingle seamlessly with the guests--everyone loved him (adults, kids, other vendors...). And when they both came to our house for our "Quarantine Themed" engagement shoot (that included our two dogs), they were able to put us both at ease. And I have to say that my husband and I are generally the type of people who will avoid having our photo taken at any cost (please see above unphotogenic comments). I think this talent for putting people at east really contributes to their ability to take beautiful photos.
There are a lot of things that, in retrospect, I probably would have changed or tweaked about my wedding. But The Spragues are definitely not one of them. 10/10--will hire again.

o remember our special day, but they were able to suggest so many fantastic locations to shoot around Chicago. They are a great team that is easy to work with, very communicative, extremely creative, and clearly know what they are doing. Highly recommend to anyone needing photographers.

re choosing the Spragues, and their photos are way better than any other photos I saw. Kate and Daniel were fun, flexible, and helpful at our wedding. And, of course most importantly, I love our wedding photos! I would hire them again in a heartbeat.
Daniel and Katherine shot our wedding in Vermont last summer (June 2019) and we feel so extremely lucky they did. The photographs were gorgeous and the price (especially the travel...
aspect) was very reasonable. Biggest thing, though, on top of being crazy talented and creative, they added such an easygoing vibe to the whole day -- we were a little nervous that no matter who we hired we would feel unnatural being photographed and the pictures would reflect that -- they were the complete opposite. They are so laid back, they feel like friends almost instantly and it's more like having an extra bridesmaid/groomsman on the scene, rather than a photographer. Daniel was our point of contact after the wedding and was super helpful/accessible in creating a catalog and even advising on photo book options. (And since then, I have even had a beer with him in L.A.). These guys rock and we look forward to staying in touch over the years. If you hire them, you will not regret it.

to whatever photographer was our favorite. After all, a wedding is only one day but the photographs last forever, right? We narrowed our favorites down to 3-5 photographers, and we chose the Spragues to do our engagement shoot. We knew before we got our engagement pictures back that we wanted Dan and Kate to shoot our wedding - they are the type of people that make you think you’ve known each other for years. And then, we got our engagement pictures back; surprise surprise, they were fantastic! We just had our wedding a couple weeks ago and we had the best. day. ever.

anized and hardest working people we had the pleasure of meeting during our wedding planning. From the moment they walked into our venue, they felt like friends. They danced with us, chatted with our families, and even let our sweet two-year-old nephew snap a few photos with their camera. What I really loved about them was how they let moments happen organically, somehow whenever something beautiful or fun (i.e. tequila shots with our friends, a quiet moment together, the small details we stayed up so late to make) was happening I would look up and Dan or Kate would be there to capture it. I don’t even know where to start – so I’ll start with what I know: Daniel and Kate Sprague are photography geniuses…and the best people on earth. My husband and I first came across...
their photography when searching for our wedding photographer online. After emailing back and forth, we had a Skype session to meet each other virtually (my husband and I live in NY so weren’t able to meet in person). It was love at first sight. We instantly bonded with Dan and Kate – chatting about our vision for our wedding, our hopes in a photographer, and toasting with the brews we were all sipping on.
Booking with Dan and Kate was the best decision we made for our wedding. We had our engagement shoot with them in Boston at sunrise, a year before our wedding. It was the first time we met them in person and, to no surprise, instantly became best friends. Did we just become best friends? Yup. More than that, they made us feel so comfortable and natural while shooting us. It was 5:00 a.m. and we had never met – but we instantly felt like we were at home with them. When we got our photos back, very soon after, we were in LOVE! They made us look like models…all while just acting our normal selves.
Leading up to our wedding – we had a lot of questions about timing on our wedding day, and shots that we were hoping to definitely get. Dan and Kate always responded right away – and always made everything so easy. I never felt anxious or stressed about photography – because they constantly made us feel like everything was handled…and it was.
The day of our wedding was perfect. Kate and Dan showed up while we were getting ready. They both took photos of me and my girl crew, and my husband and his crew, while getting ready and heading to the ceremony. Honestly – Kate never left my side and it was amazing. I’m not sure how she managed taking photos of us while helping me with my dress/hair/etc….but she did it!! What’s more…they were so much fun to hang out with! Throughout the day, and into the party, Dan and Kate honestly felt like they were two of our wedding guests. They danced with us, partied with us, had fun with us…but also took photos all night long. Several of our guests just thought they were our friends (which they now have become) because of how natural they fit into the crowd…which was perfect because nothing ever felt staged or posed. They were even still there and around at our after party before heading home.
The photos from our wedding day are my most favorite photos I’ve ever seen…and I only wish I had enough wall space to hang every single one around our home. Our wedding photos will be photos we cherish for always…and we also got two amazing friendships out of it. We recommend The Spragues to anyone searching…just do it…book them now!!!

nd Kate were a loving family photo team. My husband and I wanted to meet the Spragues in person to see more photos and to get to know them a little before hiring them. They suggested meeting for dinner and drinks. We had a blast! We talked business first, and then spent the next hour and a half just getting to know each other, carrying on like we were already old friends.
They offer a free engagement session for all couples who book with them. Neither Colin nor I particularly enjoy being photographed, but they were so lighthearted, easy going and fun that we forgot about the scariness of it and had a wicked good time! We ended our shoot with Dan convincing me, and then me convincing Colin to jump into the lake. The shots were unreal.
Our wedding was even more amazing. Dan went disc golfing with the groomsmen to get some pre-wedding shots, while Kate stayed and took shots of the girls getting ready. Kate was also extremely helpful in telling other people where to be (or not to be), which took a lot of stress off of me. The Spragues are professional and extremely talented. Before the wedding we went over the list of family and friend shots we wanted to take, and then on the day of they were able to organize everyone quickly and efficiently so we would have plenty of time for all the shots we wanted to get. The entire experience was relaxing and fun. We have not seen all of the shots yet (because the wedding was only three days ago), but we cannot WAIT! My great grandmother was not able to travel to be at the wedding, so Dan and Kate quickly put together about ten photos the day after the wedding so I could send the pictures to her before we left on our honeymoon. Again, they are AMAZING. If you like fun, I could not recommend a better team to capture your day.

tyle, all within our price range. He definitely did that, and much more. He worked closely with us to make sure we got everything we wanted from our photos, that there wasn't a detail he missed. For example, the locket wound in my bouquet from my deceased father, attached so he could walk me down the aisle, in a way. He's also an incredibly nice guy and felt more like a friend at our wedding than a stranger lurking in the background.
Also, if you have the chance, do Daniel's photobooth option. The guests loved it and the pictures are hilarious!

I am not your typical bride; I do NOT like your traditional wedding photos (which he can do if you want). photographer! Boring wedding photo's are sometimes synonymous for in the wedding industry. If you want an artist compared to a photographer (and trust me I checked them all out) You must go with daniel. He is by far the best (maybe because he does not act like he is a wedding photographer). He will not give you the standard run of the mill photography (unless you ask for it but really...why would you) he believes in living art. He did not pressure us into things he wanted us to do, he allowed us to decide what photos we wanted as a married couple and never questioned our intent. He made us look beautiful no matter where we were doing. If you hire him you are getting someone who takes time to get to know you as a couple and then delivers photo's that capture that essence. His eye for lighting, detail, capturing honest moments were unparalleled. I cannot say how happy we are with his photos. The best part is you also get his wife Kate. She completely saved me in a very bad situation and I have no way to truly repay her. I would recommend daniel to anyone who wants a feeling of a friend taking their picture instead of a cold professional who only wants to collect a check and go home. Daniel is a rare find! He captured the true wedding at your best even when you do not think you have your best shot: the happy tears when you don't mean to cry: the weird faces of joy: and the wacky grins of an honest moments and the love between two people.

Daniel and his wife Kate invited us over to their home for our consultation (other studios wanted to do most everything over the phone) and were extremely open with us. Many photographers out there in the industry are stale veterans that have not made an effort to stay up to date with modern technologies and image editing techniques. Daniel does it all. He's extremely up to date on his equipment and techniques and our pictures turned out beautifully!
Lots of places we looked at would show you only their absolute best stuff. When you're taking thousands of images you're bound to get something good out of it. Daniel encouraged us to look through an ENTIRE photo shoot for a wedding he did. Everything was GREAT.

His ability to put us all at ease (I absolutely HATE having my picture taken) is another of his noteworthy gifts! Dan is able to capture beauty in every shot he takes, and what he is able to do with a camera is completely and utterly amazing. At the end of our photo shoot, my kids were calling him "Uncle Dan." From the beginning I really felt like Dan listened to my suggestions when it came to how I wanted my pictures to look. I couldn't ask for a better couple to work with. They had us laughing when we felt awkward in front of the camera. Kate fixed my hair or dress when it was out of whack. Dan's artistic mind would be running, while Kate keeps him on track and organized. They took my ridiculous charts seriously. I am amazed at Dan & Kate's attention to detail, in photos and logistics, and they're positivity in all situations is refreshing.
Being a perfectionist, it is very hard for me to decide on anything. The process of choosing a photographer was nerve wrecking for me. Looking back on my wedding now, I can say without a doubt that choosing Daniel Aarron Sprague Photography was one of the BEST decisions that my husband and I made. We will continue to use this photographer for all our photography needs for years to come!

We e-mailed them quite often with small concerns or questions here and there and they ALWAYS replied back in a timely manner. I love this. I am the type that needs an easy flow/constant communication and I never had to worry about this with them.
We decided to go with a FULL day's package with them. The deal is that they will begin/end photography when we choose.... who else offers a package like this?!?!?! THEY are AMAZING.
Our engagement shoot went very well! We didn't really have a "special" spot we wanted our engagement shoot to be at, so we left it up to Dan+Kate to help us find one. All we said was that we wanted it outdoors in the woods and they found the most amazing place - Harold Parker State Forest. It was a dreary day and it was drizzling... Although I had full confidence in Dan+Kate, I was a little nervous about how the photos might turn out with the low lighting. But when they sent us our photos, we were amazed! They turned out better than we had expected. The experience was comfortable and fun.
If anyone deserves more praise, it would be Daniel Aaron Sprague Photography! I hope that more people will book them in the future. Meeting them and being able to see a FULL day's worth of photos from a previous wedding, sealed the deal for us.

Daniel and Kate took care of details and were very helpful at every moment, they shared with us many important moments in our wedding. We had in mind some photos, but Daniel went above and beyond and took many photos that came up very naturally. He had the initiative to visit the wedding venue before the wedding and got familiar with it before hand. He was early on the day of the wedding and stayed all the way till the end with us, capturing every moment. After the wedding we received the photos in time and we were very excited with the results.
