It was always a dream to have a wedding at NYC's famed Tavern-on-the-Green in Central Park, but in early 2010 it closed for good. Now for the good news! A MINIATURE VERSION exists ... right here in Staten Island, in Clove Lakes Park. Set amidst arched stone bridges, lush gardens and forestry, and directly overlooking the lake, this GEM is the perfect site for a wedding ceremony and reception. You can be married in the courtyard gazebo, or on the stone patio overlooking the lake. The feel is that of an English Manor House, with a fireside club room in front, a window-walled dining room in back, and a covered outdoor patio overlooking the lake. Check with venue, but I think they can accomodate parties of 25-150.
We were an intimate group and chose the fireside club room, with spiral stairs to a loft balcony overlooking the party below. The bar is also in this area which is very convenient. Unlike a typical "banquet" hall with generic decor, our space was warm and inviting. Comfortable leather chairs, rich rustic wood beams above and a massive stone fireplace, lots of character... it has the feeling of an English Manor.
The food was fabulous, the guests RAVED about the *perfect* prime rib. I had the salmon dijonaise and it was the best I've ever had anywhere. The service was excellent and the owner, Pat, provided us with a flawless event. Usually a coupe of issues are to be expected but I can honestly say there wasn't a single thing we could complain about. We were very pleased with the food, the service, the ambience, all of it.
We give it a 5-star rating and highly recommend you consider The Lake Club for your wedding or any ocassion party you are planning.
