The Storytellers Band

at that we were able to see the Storytellers perform at the Red Lion in NYC to get a sense of their style and meet some of the band members before we decided on a band. This immediately differentiated them from the usual big wedding band companies that don’t feel as personal. From the start, Candace was incredibly easy to work with, and ensured everything went smoothly leading up to the big day. The band has a huge song list and is very flexible when it comes to crafting the vibe you want for your party. You can go through their list, show them the songs and genres you like, and they’ll even learn some of the special songs for the dances and such. The band really crushed it from start to finish: the pianist greeted our guests on the piano; the guitarist played the cocktail hour beautifully; and the band had everyone up and dancing throughout the entire reception. Everybody, old and young, loved the music, and kept asking us about the band. They do everything – Motown, classic rock, 90s, hip hop, current, you name it. The horn section was a hit, too. We did have a preference for our ideal lineup of singers, but things do sometimes go wrong… one of our singers was sick so we had a last-minute replacement. We were pretty nervous, but she was absolutely incredible. We have zero regrets about choosing the Storytellers and would highly recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat.

nted. What’s unique and special about them is the range they have. The lead singers Melissa and Travis are just AMAZING with very powerful voices. But the third singer Qua is also so talented AND is an awesome rapper. The guitar player Emilio sings lead for the rock songs SO well, and the piano player David also kills it on the songs he leads. He sang the Billy Joel song I danced with my dad to and showed so much passion! Together they can offer such a wide variety of songs that I don’t think all wedding style bands are capable of. We’ve received so much positive feedback about them since our wedding and we are just SO happy we hired them to make our day so a dream!

Working with Candace and Sara was super easy - and we relied on a lot of their guidance with song flow and working through their awesome musical options. We had originally picked East Side Stories Band relying on youtube links which is always a little nerve wracking, however after signing our contract we saw one of their live showcases at Red Lion in NYC. Very quickly, even without the full band playing that night, we knew we picked the right band - they had great energy, the ability to play a wide variety of songs and had a bar going wild on a Tuesday evening. On the day of, from start to finish, they were incredible! They read the crowd so well and played songs they knew would get and keep everyone on the dance floor - there was never a time when no one was dancing when they were playing. They even took to the dance floor while performing, dancing and singing with the crowd (and hit our photo booth during their break) - it was awesome! Their closing number, which they recommended to us, was absolutely incredible and our only regret was that we aren't sure anyone got it on film! I cannot recommend this band enough - my wife and I did so much research of every band in the tristate area via the internet, including a bunch that were significantly more expensive - they were so perfect I can't imagine anyone else. I look forward to seeing them again at Red Lion and thanking them in person (and I think one of the singers may have a video of the end!). Go with East Side Stories!

After each one, we kept saying, “nope, not nearly as good as Storytellers. ” So we decided to book Storytellers and let me tell you... Best decision we made for our wedding. Sara and Candace (founders) were in constant communication throughout the process and were easy to reach. They were flexible to work with and provided clear documents and Instructions in advance of the wedding so they had all the info they needed from us to deliver exactly what we wanted. Most importantly, on the day of the wedding, from start to finish, the band brought the house down. The ceremony pianist played beautiful music, the duo during the cocktail hour was fantastic, and the band during the wedding literally had people bowing down to them. The reception was outdoors in a tent filled with 200 people and the sound acoustics were PERFECT the whole night. Our MC and lead singer, Thomas, was by far the best wedding singer we’ve ever heard. He held a note during “Superstition” that we’ll never forget the rest of our lives. “Beyond worth every dollar” our parents said. Our guests said “best wedding band We’ve ever seen”. Our friends who are newly engaged already asked for their contact info. It was actually a RAGER, Thomas got onto the dance floor and into the crowd. We couldn’t have dreamt of a wedding band this good — we’ve been to weddings with 45 Riots, Hank Lane, etc and Storytellers take the cake. STOP READING THIS REVIEW AND BOOK THEM NOW. You won’t regret it. Best money we spent on the wedding!

great mix of songs that everyone was up on their feet. Sara and her team are lovely to work with! We requested a special acoustic version of an 80s song for our first dance that then transitioned into the fast version to get the party going and it was amazing! They did a great job of taking into account our must plays and don’t plays, while also throwing in songs we hadn’t marked that fit the vibe perfectly. We chose the Storytellers very early on in our planning process - they were the first and only band we saw live. We went to the Red Lion and instantly knew they were perfect. They did not disappoint ! Best decision!! And such a great value too!

When it came to the reception - it was the party that we wanted it to be!! Every person was out on the dance floor! I have a large family and we’ve been to a lot of family weddings and I don’t think I’ve ever seen all of my aunts and uncles out on the dance floor like I did at our wedding - it was an absolute blast. They played a great mix of songs that everyone enjoyed through the whole night - I didn’t want it to end! Booking the Storytellers was the best decision we made in our wedding planning process!!

t 2 year period, alone, and have seen some great bands, but the Storytellers are definitely the best we've seen... case in point - they get a huge crowd dancing at a random bar on a Tuesday night at 11pm in NYC- not easy!). I was at a wedding as a date in 2014 where the Storytellers played. They were so fantastic, that I sought them out and got their card that night. Fast forward to my engagement in 2017, I pulled out their card, which had been sitting in my bag for 3 years, and told my fiance that I had THE band for us (had not seen them since). They delivered beyond our wildest expectations, both at the wedding, and throughout the planning process. When choosing a band for our wedding, we operated under the philosophy that a band makes the party - and still believe this to be the case. With that said, we wanted the best band possible for our wedding (and we DEFINITELY got it), so we weren't really thinking about the planning process or coordinating with the band. Lucky for us, we didn't need to worry about this, because working with Sara is a dream. She is friendly, fun, and knows exactly what you need when you need it. I have a number of friends who are also going through the planning process (or recently went through it), who have had much more difficult and stressful experiences, especially when dealing with the larger companies/booking agents who coordinate for bands. Sara does it all - there is no agent or intermediary, which to be 100% honest, makes a huge difference (both in experience and in price!). Our guests cannot stop talking about the Storytellers and how awesome they are. This is a common theme in reviews, but seriously, we've gotten multiple calls a day. They are the best. As you can probably tell, we are enamored with the Storytellers, and cannot recommend them highly enough. Book them now!

ook this band. September 10, 2016, we got engaged, and by September 25, I had booked the storytellers with Sara. I was early for my January 13, 2018 wedding but I was not going to wait when I knew I loved this band. Because I am very intense and organized, I immediately paid our deposit (and some!) and began planning our first dance. I realized around 6 months before the wedding that I may have prematurely booked a band because I never heard them after that one night in long beach. Most of my friends were using a large company and I knew that the music can make or break a wedding. I started getting worried and dragged my fiancé and two best friends into the city to listen to them at O'Flanagans. WOW did I make the right choice! They ROCKED the entire place and people danced way into the night! Even my best friends, who are sometimes too honest, told me they were amazing!! Sara and her team were so easy to work with up to the wedding date. They set up the ceremony, cocktail hour and helped me work through the song list. They answered any and all questions and made my choices STRESS FREE. We were even able to add Travis at the last minute and we are SO happy we did. (IF YOU GET THE CHANCE, ADD TRAVIS!) January 13, 2018 was our wedding day and the food was great, flowers were beautiful and every detail was in place. But the ONLY thing people still talk about is the band. They played all of our absurd song choices (think I'm Alive by Celine Dion for the recessional!) BEAUTIFULLY and everyone, from our friends, parents friends to the grandparents were on the dance floor from the minute the doors opened. Every song they chose was amazing and it wasn't just one genre. They played it all. I would recommend to not be so particular about song choice and give them a wide range of music. I did NOT want a typical wedding band where they played the same 15 songs, I wanted a FUN party. When the last song played, everyone started cheering "ONE MORE SONG". I've been to over 25 weddings in the last 2 years and that's the ONLY time I've ever seen that. The storytellers immediately started playing another song and no one wanted them to stop! I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN HAPPIER. THE STORYTELLERS WERE THE BEST CHOICE I MADE FOR OUR WEDDING!!

From our initial communications with the band, Sara Jacovino was responsive, organized, and easy to talk to, always quick to respond to any questions or concerns we had. We had Storytellers perform at our ceremony, cocktail hour, and main event and they delivered unbelievable sound and excellence at each. Each and every song that we requested was either part of their repertoire or they were able to learn it with no problems or hesitation. In the weeks leading up to our wedding, we were able to communicate with Sara about preferred artists and songs choices, and also request new songs for the band to learn. Sara even surprised us with a song that I told her we loved, but hadn’t asked them to learn. The dance floor was packed the entire night and the Storytellers was able to accommodate interests of each of our guests, young and old. Our guests could not stop commenting how the Storytellers were the best wedding band they have ever seen. Many of our guests even said that if you closed your eyes, you felt like you were at a concert. The band rocked it and we are so thankful that we decided to work with the Storytellers. Months and years later my husband and I would still randomly bring up "that band" and how fun his wedding was (and we have been to A LOT of weddings - I think we actually went to about 11 weddings that year alone). Flash forward to our engagement, we HAD to book "that band." We contacted his friend to get their information and contacted the Storytellers immediately. I was actually pretty shocked at how affordable they were for a 10-piece band. We actually decided on a wedding date based on their availability (yes - they are THAT good). The Storytellers went above and beyond their reputation at our NYC wedding. Guests kept coming up to us ALL night telling us how amazing the band was. My sister and her boyfriend who are both professional musicians were extremely impressed by them (they were so impressed that they would get off the dance floor to get closer to the stage just watch them play). There were always tons of people on the dance floor at any given moment. They definitely made the night extremely special. They even learned "Dirty Water" (I'm from Boston :-) for the playlist! By booking the Storytellers, you are ensuring that your wedding will standout. You can't go wrong when you have "that band."

my sister, and I went to the Red Lion in NYC to see the band play. By the second song, they had the entire bar up and dancing. It was at that point that I looked at my sister and husband and said, “We need this band.” At our wedding, the dance floor was crowded the entire night and not one person sat down. The Storytellers band not only played wonderful music, they got everyone amped up, they got everyone dancing, and they allowed everyone to have a fantastic time. I will never forget when they played their last song at our wedding and all of my guests began chanting, “One more song, one more song!” My guests are still talking about the Storytellers band to this day. We would recommend this band to anyone. Their song selection is extensive and they are always learning new songs. They are true entertainers and professionals and kept everyone on the dance floor all night. Besides being wonderful entertainers, this group moved mountains to get to our wedding. My wife and I were married in January 2016 during Winter Storm Jonas and grew concerned when roads began to close and public transportation began to shut down. Would our vendors make it for our big day? My wife and I were devastated as we had seen The Storytellers many times in NYC and were looking forward to having them at our wedding, but Sara assured us they were on their way. Next thing we know every member of the band comes walking in covered in snow and lugging heavy equipment. They lugged their instruments onto the NYC subway and found their way to our wedding in the blizzard. We are so grateful and blessed to have such wonderful entertainers at our wedding. To this day the number one comment we get is "THAT BAND!!!!" If you do one thing to make your wedding memorable, hire The Storytellers. You will not be disappointed.

The band played a great mix of music (that we helped in pre-selecting) and had the crowd dancing from the first to the last dance. The MC, the horn section, the vocalists - they are all very talented musicians and it shows -- believe me. I received many compliments on the band following the wedding and am more than happy to recommend Storytellers. For reference, our wedding was May 2016.

When I first spoke to The Storytellers, I was a little nervous about the fact that they take two brief breaks during the reception since some other bands we looked into emphasized "continuous music." However, Sara had explained the rationale behind these breaks (besides from the band members being human and needing a break—whenever the band would play, it would be all of the band together with their full energy vs. musicians coming in and out). This worked out very well and we didn't even notice when they weren't playing since it was at natural times in the evening and they would put on iPod music. Additionally, it was an absolute pleasure to work with Sara from The Storytellers on all of the logistics leading up to the event. She was very organized, provided many helpful recommendations and was patient answering all of our questions. We can’t recommend The Storytellers enough. You will without a doubt be happy if you choose to book them!

ongs! We actually saw The Storytellers play at a different wedding two weeks before ours and they were amazing, but our wedding was a totally different performance. We absolutely loved them and would recommend them wholeheartedly! When we were initially looking for a wedding band, we were kind of frustrated with the band brokers that were trying to sell us bands that we'd never actually meet or see before our wedding day. We especially appreciate the extra songs they learned. It really made it a special night all the way from the ceremony to the very end (and an extra song after!) of the reception. My father plays the sax it was really great that he got to play a few songs with the band and play the Mother-son dance. Working with Sara and others in the band was also a great experience - they were always responsive and addressed all of our questions and concerns quickly and super professionally. Our wedding was an amazing, fun, high-energy night - and it was entirely thanks to the Storytellers. We would recommend them without any hesitation.

When guests talk about our wedding the first thing they rave about is the band. We booked the Storytellers because we didn't want a cookie cutter agency band. And what we got with the Storytellers was an independent, authentic, talented band whose energy and engaging personalities made our party unforgettable. We also used the Storytellers for our ceremony and cocktail hour music. We had two musicians (Paul & John) on the guitar and the keyboard. They were also fantastic.

She never once made us feel pressured into making a decision whereas a number of other bands presented us with a contract to sign in the initial meeting. We knew right away that this was who we wanted to join us on our wedding day. Having the opportunity to see Sara and her group at the Red Lion over the coming months only added to our excitement. Sara checked in with us continuously up until the wedding day that helped make this aspect of planning completely stress-free. The band learned three songs including two unconventional favorites of ours. They managed to blend the likes of Lauryn Hill, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder and Calvin Harris into an unbelievable set! Our guests were on the dance floor the entire night and would have kept going if it weren't for our venue closing down for the night. Our friends and family continue to compliment them to this day. Their style and uniqueness embodies NYC in every sense, a place that has played a big role in my wife and I's story. It was a privilege having them be a part of the most beautiful day of our lives. We can't recommend them enough.

e STILL coming in from our friends & family! The band was absolutely extraordinary and if you are considering them for your event, you should definitely give them a call right now. When I first came across their website, I was looking for a band that could play a variety of music that would keep me (90s pop, Bruno Mars), my husband (80s R&B, Motown), and my parents (Oldies, Classic Rock) happy. Amazingly enough, The Storytellers had all this music in their repertoire, AND they sounded great playing it! (If you don't believe me, check out all their great videos and sound clips.) The dance floor was literally packed all night -- I know a lot of people say that, but it was really true! If our guests weren't eating, they were dancing! And after looking through some of our photos, I can tell that everyone from my aunts & uncles, to my college friends, & even the little flower girls had a blast! Candace and Sara were really nice about answering the dozens of emails I sent them during the planning process. For every question I asked, they had a prompt & thorough answer. They asked for a song list a few weeks before the event, & they managed to fit in all of my (and my husband's) favorite songs! The band was also willing to learn songs for us if needed, & super accommodating when our friend asked to sing for us (with band accompaniment) during the reception. They played our first dance and father-daughter dance beautifully too, and they were really memorable moments. My husband and I are forever grateful to The Storytellers for providing the soundtrack to the best night of our lives.

It is a larger piece band (they were compact in size though) and it seemed like almost everyone was singing at some point which made the songs sound like you could be listening to the radio. They were so personable and interacted with the guests on the dance floor, they looked like they were having just as much fun as the guests! They didn't skip a beat and they were able to read the crowd and anticipate what songs to play. I had a couple of "must play" requests and they did such an amazing performance. After the wedding people couldn't stop telling me how great the band was! Literally every person I saw after the wedding commented on the band. We had some financial reservations about using a band or a DJ when we first started planning but there's something about having a live band that doesn't compare to a DJ and Storytellers is the best of the best! I couldn't have been happier with my choice.

really exceeded all of our expectations - even now our guests cannot stop talking about how amazing they were. Everyone was on the dance floor all night until literally the last song. They nailed our father/daughter (Ray Charles), mother/son (Louis Armstrong), and first dance (Brett Elderidge) songs to a T and they even let my sister guest sing a few songs with them during dancing. Everyone seemed to be having a blast, including the band members themselves. When the night ended (we had to cut off music at 10:30PM sharp due to noise ordinances), Sarah came up to my husband gushing about the amazing time they had and how they would have loved to play longer! If we ever need a band again we know who to call. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended!!!

wanted to PARTY at our own wedding. Sara is very thorough and flexible in terms of learning songs etc. We even had them play a duet for our ceremony and cocktail hour...it was perfect. They really have a wide range of songs and are super flexible about learning new songs (some bands will not learn new music and will only do so if you pay for it). Hire these guys. Worth every penny.

custom songs for our first dance and parent dances. Most importantly, the musicians are all awesome; the dance floor was packed from start to finish. All of our guests commented on how great the band was and how impressed they were at how many of the band members were lead singers for one song or another. This is a group with a lot of depth and musical talent. We went to see them play at a bar before we booked them and were impressed right away. Highly recommended!

the planning process. Sara was always quick to respond to emails and super friendly. As most are aware, music can make or break your wedding. We spent a lot of time checking out all different bands as this was a priority to us, and the Storytellers were by far the best one we saw. Come wedding night, they played the ceremony, cocktail hour and of course, reception with absolute perfection. Each member of the band is unbelievably talented. The singers are all insanely good. Travis is a great entertainer, keeping the crowd engaged at all times. The dance floor was packed from start to finish. When the party came to an end, people did not want to leave. Friends and family have continually told us how good the band was. I cannot recommend the Storytellers Band enough. They made our wedding so special. Hire them for any event. You will not regret it!
