My Husband and I hired this group for My Son’s Wedding on Valentines Day, 1998. I remember them to be very personable very talented and their music was gentle, sweet, and perfect for Church Music. I know this was a very long time ago. They left CDs for our guests to sample, for future couples to hire them.
"When I read the poster announcing that The Street Minstrels were to give a concert at our large retirement facility I didn't expect much. I had no idea that I'd have the pleasure of hearing such an engaging, professional and polished group. The Minstrels is comprised of three supurb musicians,Frank Ross, guitarist, Jay Vosk, clarinetist/flautist and Michael Fan, long-time member of the Tuson Symphony, violinist. Besides their musicianship the concert was memorable for the amazing diversity of its music, from 16th Century European court music to the Beatles to Latin and jazz.
Most (all) of the arrangements were done by guitarist Frank who also provided the bass and even the percussion by using hand and thumb slaps, and some fine vocals as well. You might think you were hearing two wind players as Mr. Vosk shifted so deftly from clarinet to flute. Mr. Fan on violin completed the sound with his well-known rich and full tone.
You might think you were listening to a miniature(mini) orchestra rather than a trio (quartet) because their sound was so rich and colorful. To call them "entertaining" is an understatement because they were that and much more. Frank Ross's arraingments showed a great love and understanding of the music while showcasing the various instruments.
Since their first visit here they have returned frequently to keep pace with their popularity. Though their performances were professional they also brouht an informal personal style which was a big hit with our audience. Don't be fooled by their humble-sounding title, "The Street Minstrels", because you might miss a thoroghly-engaging, anything-but-humble event." ----Dr. W. Douglas Pritchard, University of Arizona Professor of Music, ret.
;At the last minute they called and told me the violin was double booked and replaced him with a saxaphone
